Concussion Trailer – Will Smith takes on American Football brain trauma

August 31, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

will-smithThere’s been a lot of talk in the US about the possible effects of playing American Football on the brain, and whether having a career in the game can have massive repercussions for the players.

Concussion wants to take a long, hard look at the subject, with the movie following ‘Dr.BennetOmalu (Will Smith) who – after studying the brains of ex-pros such as Dave Duerson (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) and Andre Waters (Richard T. Jones) – discovers that they were suffering from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a neuro-degenerative disease caused by repeated trauma to the head.

‘The film also stars Luke Wilson as NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, and Albert Brooks and Alec Baldwin as doctors who help Dr.Omaluin his fight for the truth to be known.’

The first trailer has now arrived, which you can watch below. [Read more…]

The Skeleton Twins (DVD Review)

March 19, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader, Luke Wilson, Ty Burrell, Boyd Holbrook
Director: Craig Johnson
Running Time: 89 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: March 16th 2015 (UK)

With SNL alumni Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader in the lead roles, you could be forgiven for thinking this would be a riotous gross-out laugh-fest, but right from the first few scenes The Skeleton Twins sets itself to be something far more indie dramedy.

Hader and Wiig are twins Milo and Maggie who aren’t completely estranged but have severely drifted apart after he left for LA to become an actor. Things aren’t going to well though, as the movie opens with Maggie narrowly escaping death and Milo attempting suicide. He heads back to their hometown to stay with Maggie and try to start over, but they soon discover that reuniting isn’t easy and that neither of them is in a place in their lives where they feel they should be. Playing It Cool (VoD Review)

March 2, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Chris Evans, Michelle Monaghan, Topher Grace, Aubrey Plaza, Luke Wilson
Director: Justin Reardon
Running Time: 94 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: March 2nd 2015

It’s not often that a movie with this much star power doesn’t get a cinema release in the UK, but Playing It Cool has gone straight to VoD, despite the presence of Chris Evans, Michelle Monaghan, Topher Grace, Aubrey Plaza, Luke Wilson, Patrick Warbuton, Matthew Morrison, Ioan Gruffudd, Ashley Tisdale, Anthony Mackie and Phillip Baker Hall, amongst others.

So is there something wrong with it? Well, there’s nothing really bad, but its problem is that it has a lot of ambition but doesn’t quite hit any of its marks. Even so it’s a surprise it hasn’t been in cinemas.

Chris Evans plays a screenwriter who has little interest in the romantic comedy script he’s been commissioned to write, largely because he’s not a big believer in love. With every relationship he’s had, he’s ended up telling the woman he doesn’t feel the same way she does, and he’s now essentially trying to avoid the whole thing. But then he meets Michelle Monaghan, and there’s definitely a connection. [Read more…]

The Skeleton Twins Trailer – A gay Bill Hader & a straight Kristen Wiig are estranged siblings

June 30, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

skeleton-twinsIf you heard that SNL alums Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader were starring in a movie together, you’d expect zany comedy to ensue. And if you heard Hader was playing a gay character, you might have visions of his outrageously camp SNL character, Stefan.

However The Skeleton Twins is a lot more dramatic than you might expect, even if they haven’t completely given up on the comedy.

they play Maggie (Wiig) and Milo (Hader), who are twins who went their separate ways years ago, but when they coincidentally cheat death on the same day, the shock makes them reunite and figure out how their lives went wrong. Maggie starts to re-examine her marriage to nature-loving slacker Lance (Luke Wilson), while the gay Milo goes to visit old flame Rich (Ty Burrell).

The film is due in cinemas later this year, but take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

New Anchorman: The Legend Continues Cameos Revealed

April 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

anchorman-2-teaser-posterEver since Anchorman: The Legend Continues was announced, it’s been suggested the movie would get some good star cameo. We already knew Harrison Ford had a decent sized role in the movie and there’s been suggestions that John C. Reilly will be showing up to. However now Nicole Kidman has signed on for an uncredited cameo role in the comedy sequel.

Vince Vaughn and Luke Wilson, both of whom had tiny roles in 2004’s Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, are also shooting cameos, according to THR. No details have given regarding the roles these actors will portray.

Will Ferrell (Ron Burgundy), Paul Rudd (Brian Fantana), Steve Carell (Brick Tamland), David Koechner (Champ Kind) and Christina Applegate (Veronica Corningstone) all return for the movie, with Harrison Ford, Kristen Wiig, James Marsden, Dylan Baker and Meagan Good joining the cast. The movie will explore that happens to Ron Burgundy when the 24-hour news cycle changes the face of being an anchor.

Adam McKay is directing from a script he co-wrote with Will Ferrell. It’ll be released at Christmas.

Emmanuelle Chriqui Joins Luke Wilson In Millon Dollar Man

September 5, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

At Sundance in January, the movie Million Dollar Man was announced, with Luke Wilson attached to the title role. It’s been slightly stuck in development since then, but now it’s moving forward as Variety reports Emmanuelle Chriqui has taken the female lead in the indie sports comedy.

The flick is about a man (Wilson) who’s down on his luck and working as a driver for a soft drinks company. He then gets a second chance in life playing a football kicker, which is presumably when he becomes the million dollar man of the title. Chriqui will play the obligatory love interest who helps to get him in shape.

Scott Marshall, who’s the son of Valentine’s Day director Garry Marshall, is set to direct the film from a script by Alex Schrader.

Luke Wilson and Kevin Connolly Join Elvis & Nixon

November 18, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Last week it was announced that Eric Bana had signed on to play Elvis Presley and Danny Huston would be Richard Nixon in Elvis & Nixon, which marks the directorial debut of actor Cary Elwes. It’s an unusual mix of talent and subject matter, and not a couple more actors have joined the throng, with Kevin Connolly and Luke Wilson both in talks for the movie.

The movie centres on a real-life 1970 meeting between the President and the King at the White House, which took place after Elvis Presley wrote a six-page letter requesting permission to visit. Luke Wilson will play Sonny, a member of Elvis Presley’s “Memphis Mafia,” who accompanies the rock icon on his Washington visit. Kevin Connolly will play a limo driver named Ronnie.

Cary Elwes will direct Elvis & Nixon from a screenplay he co-wrote with Joe Sagal and Hanala Sagal. Production will begin this coming January in Louisiana.
