Mark Wahlberg & His Bear Buddy Go Diving In The First Ted 2 Pic

December 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Ted-2-ew1It’s taken a couple of years, but after the surprise success of Ted, a sequel is on its way and getting ready to hit cinemas next summer.

To help get us in the mood, EW has released the first image, which shows Mark Wahlberg’s John alongside his bear buddy, as they prepare to go diving.

There’s still not much info on the plot, but this time around Amanda Seyfried replaces Mila Kunis as the female lead, with Dennis Haysbert, Liam Neeson, and John Slattery all set to star.

It’ll be in cinemas June 2015.

Transformers: Age Of Extinction (Blu-ray Review)

November 17, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor, Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer
Director: Michael Bay
Running Time: 165 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: November 17th 2014 (UK)

Reviewing Transformers: Age Of Extinction seems slightly pointless. It has an abysmal 18% rating on RottenTomatoes, with only 32 out of 178 that collated reviews saying it’s a decent movie. Despite that it’s currently the highest grossing movie of 2014 worldwide with over $1 billion in the bank (largely thanks to a gargantuan gross in China). So whether anyone says it’s good or bad seems a little irrelevant.

But just for the record, it’s not a good movie. [Read more…]

Mark Wahlberg Will Be The Six Billion Dollar Man With Peter Berg Directing

November 7, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

mark-wahlbergA few months ago rumours emerged that Mark Wahlberg and director Peter Berg were thinking about making a movie version of The Six Million Dollar Man. It turns out that was correct, but six million doesn’t buy you what it did in the 1970s, so Deadline reports that it will now become The Six Billion Dollar Man. That’s inflation for you.

The movie is about Steve Austin (Wahlberg), a former astronaut who nearly dies after crashing an experimental plane. He is saved when scientists give him bionic replacements for both legs, his right arm and left eye. He becomes a powerful weapon for the government as a secret agent for the Office of Scientific Intelligence.

The TV series, which starred Lee Majors and ran for five seasons between 1974 and 1978, was based on the 1972 novel Cyborg by Martin Caidin.

It appears getting the movie off the ground hasn’t been plain sailing though. While Universal own the rights to The Six Million Dollar Man TV series and were said to be backing the film when it was first rumoured, in order to move things forwards The Weinstein Company’s Dimension Films label has now stepped in to back the movie, although Universal may still part-finance.

Peter Berg, who previously worked with Wahlberg on Lone Survivor, will direct. They hope to shoot the film sometime next year for a 2016 release.

The Gambler Trailer – Mark Wahlberg makes some dangerous bets

November 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Gambler-poster1After a teaser a few weeks ago, the full trailer for Mark Wahlberg’s upcoming movie The Gambler has now arrived, which you can take a look at below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Synopsis: Jim Bennett (Academy Award®-nominee Mark Wahlberg) is a risk taker. Both an English professor and a high-stakes gambler, Bennett bets it all when he borrows from a gangster (Michael Kenneth Williams) and offers his own life as collateral. Always one step ahead, Bennett pits his creditor against the operator of a gambling ring (Alvin Ing) and leaves his dysfunctional relationship with his wealthy mother (Academy Award®-winner Jessica Lange) in his wake. He plays both sides, immersing himself in an illicit, underground world while garnering the attention of Frank (John Goodman), a loan shark with a paternal interest in Bennett’s future. As his relationship with a student (Brie Larson) deepens, Bennett must take the ultimate risk for a second chance…’

The movie will be in UK cinemas on December 19th.

The Gambler Red Band Teaser – Mark Wahlberg enters a dangerous world

October 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Gambler-poster1The first teaser for The Gambler – starring Mark Wahlberg, John Goodman, Brie Larson, Michael Kenneth Williams and Jessica Lange – has arrived. It’s a bit of a change of director for Wahlberg after Transformers 4 and for director Rupert Wyatt, whose last movie was Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Jim Bennett (Academy Award®-nominee Mark Wahlberg) is a risk taker. As his relationship with a student (Brie Larson) deepens, Bennett must take the ultimate risk for a second chance…’

It’s out in the US in December but no official UK release date has been set yet. Take a look at the teaser trailer below. [Read more…]

Ted 2 Adds Morgan Freeman To The Mix

September 10, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

morgan-freemanmorgan-freemanIf you need to add an extra bit of class to your movie, casting Morgan Freeman is always a good idea. Seth MacFarlane obviously agrees as Variety reports the Family Guy creator has cast the actor in a pivotal role in Ted 2.

There’s no news on the exact plot, but Freeman is being brought in to play an iconic civil rights lawyer who helps talking soft toy Ted with his legal problems.

Mark Wahlberg is also set to return John Bennett, with Amanda Seyfried playing the new female lead. Mila Kunis will also be in the movie, but she’ll apparently have a much smaller role than she did in the first film.

Production is already underway in Boston, with MacFarlane directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild. It’s due out summer 2015.

New Supercut Reveals Transformers Director Michael Bay’s Obsession With Cheap & Nasty Gay Jokes

July 5, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

michael-bay-age-of-extinction-setThere has been a lot of comment about how Michael Bay films the few female characters allowed into his movies in a way that makes even the least socially aware person suddenly realise what the term ‘objectification of women’ means.

What isn’t mentioned quite as often is that there’s also at least one moment in any Bay movies where gay people will start cringing due to a joke where ‘homos’ are the punchlines, and which like the way he treats women, reveals a very old-fashioned attitude to what it means to be a ‘man’ and what masculinity is. Yet there’s still a fascination with, probably due to the fact he loves bromances, even if Bay is now the king of ‘no homo’.

To show just how Bay’s attitude to gay people works (and with Transformers: Age Of Extinction opening), Gawker has come up with a rather fascinating supercut of gay jokes from a variety of the director’s movies, which shows just how cheap, casual and rather unpleasant his film’s attitude towards homosexuality is, whether it’s the world’s most stereotypically gay stylist in The Rock (which really does come across like a gay minstrel show), or Mark Wahlberg making sure there are ‘no homos’ amongst a group of kids in Pain & Gain.

Take a look below. [Read more…]

Will Ferrell & Mark Wahlberg Reuniting For Daddy’s Home

June 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

other-guys-slideMark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell had a big success with The Other Guys, and while there’s been talk of a sequel it’s never come off. However it seems they want to work together as they are is in talks to reunite for the Paramount comedy Daddy’s Home, according to Deadline.

Last year Ferrell was due to star opposite Vince Vaughn in the film, with Etan Cohen set to direct. However that never came together and so Mark Wahlberg has stepped in. The film is about a mild-mannered radio executive played by Ferrell, who wants to be the best stepfather he can be to his wife’s children. However, this gets complicated when their deadbeat biological father (Wahlberg) returns and forces Ferrell to fight for the kids’ affection.

Sean Anders and John Morris are in talks to direct from a screenplay by Brian Burns, Chris Henchy, Adam McKay and Etan Cohen. It’s not clear when it will go into production.

Mark Wahlberg Is In A Panic In A New Transformers: Age Of Extinction Poster

March 30, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

transformers-4-poster6It seems Michael Bay has decided the bots in his previous Transformers films simply weren’t big enough, as both the recent trailer and this new poster have tried to sell us on some truly huge machines.

It certainly seems to be causing a few problems for Mark Wahlberg.

With a complete change of human cast, Mark Wahlberg will play Cade, the father of Nicol Peltz’s Tessa. Jack Reynor meanwhile is Tessa’s boyfriend, Shane. Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer, Sophia Myles and Bingbing Li also star, with Michael Bay once more directing.

The movie will be out in cinemas in late June in the US and early July in the UK.
