Chris Pine & Michelle Williams Teaming For All the Old Knives

May 7, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s spy thriller time for Chris Pine and Michelle Williams, who are currently in negotiations to star in All the Old Knives. Variety also reports that Theory of Everything director James Marsh is in talks to helm.

The film is, ‘ set in the idyllic town of Carmel-by-the-Sea, where ex-lovers Henry and Celia – one a CIA spy and one an ex-CIA spy – meet for dinner and to reminisce. They relive their memories of the disastrous hijacking of Royal Jordanian Flight 127, which ended in the death of all on board, a failure that haunts the CIA’s Vienna station to this day. The question is whether Henry has come to dinner to rekindle the romance or to get to the bottom of a conspiracy. It also becomes clear that one of the ex-lovers may not survive the meal.’

The movie has been in the works for some time, with Neil Burger previously set to direct. However, it’s only now that it’s coming together with The Mark Gordon Company backing the movie and eOne handling distribution.

Rebecca Ferguson Up For Hugh Jackman’s Musical The Greatest Showman

September 7, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

rebecca-fergusonWhen it was announced that Michelle Williams was joining the PT Barnum musical biopic The Greatest Showman, many assumed she would be playing Swedish opera star Jenny Lind. However, that role is actually going to Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation’s Rebecca Ferguson, according the Variety.

As well as Ferguson and Williams, the cast also include Zendaya, Zac Efron and Hugh Jackman, as Barnum. The film will focus life of Barnum, who was known for his elaborate hoaxes before creating the three-ring circus. He also spent a lot of time pining for Swedish opera singer Jenny Lind, and it’s believed this relationship will be the central spine of the movie.

Michael Gracey is attached to direct. The project has been in the works for over five years, but apparently Fox has now made it a priority, partly because they know what a passion project it is for Jackman. It should start filming this autumn.

Certain Women Trailer – Michelle Williams, Kristen Stewart & Laura Dern explore gender & sexuality

September 5, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

certain-womenThis is one of those quiet trailers that may not tell you a lot of plot, but still suggests the movie itself might be truly excellent. If nothing else, it has an incredible cast, including Michelle Williams, Kristen Stewart, Laura Dern, newcomer Lily Gladstone, Rene Auberjonois, Jared Harris and James Le Gros. And with Kelly Reichardt directing, it got a huge amount of promise.

Plus there’s an added bit of gay interest with its suggestion of a growing flirtation and bond between Stewart and Gladstone’s characters.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘One of America’s foremost filmmakers, Kelly Reichardt (Wendy and Lucy, Meek’s Cutoff) directs a remarkable ensemble cast led by Michelle Williams, Kristen Stewart, and Laura Dern in this stirring look at three women striving to forge their own paths amidst the wide-open plains of the American Northwest: a lawyer (Dern) who finds herself contending with both office sexism and a hostage situation; a wife and mother (Williams) whose determination to build her dream home puts her at odds with the men in her life; and a young law student (Stewart) who forms an ambiguous bond with a lonely ranch hand (radiant newcomer Lily Gladstone). As their stories intersect in subtle but powerful ways, a portrait emerges of flawed, but strong-willed individuals in the process of defining themselves.’

The film will be in US cinemas in October. [Read more…]

Manchester By The Sea Trailer – Casey Affleck becomes his nephew’s guardian in the acclaimed film

August 24, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

manchester-by-the-sea-slideManchester By The Sea got rave reviews when it debuted at Sundance, with some people immediately putting it in the Oscars race. Indeed, distributors Amazon Studios and Roadside Attractions must agree, as they’ve given is an awards friendly November US release slot.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘After the death of his older brother Joe (Kyle Chandler), Lee Chandler (Casey Affleck) is shocked to learn that Joe has made him sole guardian of his nephew Patrick (Lucas Hedges). Taking leave of his job, Lee reluctantly returns to Manchester-by-the-Sea to care for Patrick, a spirited 15-year-old, and is forced to deal with a past that separated him from his wife Randi (Michelle Williams) and the community where he was born and raised.   Bonded by the man who held their family together, Lee and Patrick struggle to adjust to a world without him. In his first film since 2011’s acclaimed Margaret, Lonergan once again proves himself a powerful and visionary storyteller as he seamlessly weaves past and present together, crafting a tension-filled tale that deftly eschews sentimentality in favor of penetrating emotional insight and deeply affecting human relationships.’

A trailer has now arrived. Take a look at it below. [Read more…]

Michelle Williams May Join Barnum Biopic Greatest Showman On Earth

July 6, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Michelle-Williams-slideHugh Jackman has been working on the musical PT Barnum biopic Greatest Showman On Earth for a long time, but it’s only now that it’s finally moving towards shooting. They’re currently busy filling out the cast, with Zac Efron starting negotiations to appear a couple of weeks ago.

Now THR reports that Michelle Williams is also in talks for the movie. Williams has previously shown off hr singing skills in Dawson’s Creek, My Week With Marilyn and on Broadway in Cabaret, so she’s certainly had plenty of practice for a movie musical.

The film will life of Barnum, who was known for his elaborate hoaxes before creating the three-ring circus. The story will also look at his pining for Swedish opera singer Jenny Lind (the role that presumably Williams is in talks for). It’s not clear who Efron would play.

Michael Gracey is attached to direct. The project has been in the works for over five years, but apparently Fox has now made is a priority, partly because they know what a passion project it is for Jackman.

October 24, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Suite-Francaise-slideMany of the films hoping for Oscar nominations are already busy jostling for position, but now we get one that may be up for BAFTAs next year, but without a confirmed 2014 US release set, may not be up for the Oscars. The film is Suite Francaise, which has just released its first trailer.

Based on the best-selling book by Irene Nemirovsky and set during the German occupation of France in the 1940’s, Suite Française tells the story of Lucille Angellier (Michelle Williams) as she awaits news from her husband, a prisoner of war.

As Parisian refugees pour into their small town, soon followed by a regiment of German soldiers who take up residence in the villagers’ homes, Lucile’s life is turned upside down – further complicated by the arrival of refined German officer, Bruno (Matthias Schoenaerts).

The movie is due out January 23rd 2015 in the UK. [Read more…]

Michelle Williams & Joel Edgerton Join The Double Hour

May 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Michelle-WilliamsJoel Edgerton and Michelle Williams seem like they’d be a pretty good on-screen team. Now we’ll be able to see if that’s true, as they have signed up to star in The Double Hour, according to Variety. The movie is remake of a 2009 Italian thriller of the same name.

The story is about a couple (Edgerton and Williams) whose secret rendezvous is interrupted by a well-planned robbery. Filippo Timi and Kseniya Rappoport starred in the original.

Joshua Marston (Maria Full of Grace) is set to direct the remake from his own screenplay adaptation, but there aren’t any details on when it might shoot.

Starring: Natasha Lyonne, Clea DuVall, Michelle Williams, RuPaul
Director: Jamie Babbit
Running Time: 85 mins

There is nothing that seems so strange and insidious to British viewers of American culture as summer camps.  They are a phenomenon that would not be tolerated by British youth – yet the Americans seem to love them and they are commonly seen in American films and television.

But I’m a Cheerleader tells the story of Megan (Natasha Lyonne), a naïve teenager who is sent to a gay rehabilitation camp due to her seemingly deviant behavior – the joke being that she thinks that due to her being a cheerleader, she can’t be anything but ‘normal’.  However her friends and family all read the signs and decide that she’s a lesbian who needs help to be straightened out. Director: Sam Raimi

After much fanfare and a marketing blitz, Oz The Great And Powerful is finally here. So is it worth going down the yellow brick road on Sam Raimi’s trip to L. Frank Baum’s magical world? Are the Friends Of Oscar as good as the Friends Of Dorothy? The answer is yes, even if the film is far from perfect.

James Franco is Oscar Diggs, a Kansan sideshow magician and huckster who sells his illusions as real magic. He has an eye for the ladies and doesn’t care that’s he’s left a thousand broken hearts behind him, but things catch up to him when the circus strongman realises Oscar has been dallying with his gal. Oscar escapes in his hot air balloon (goodness knows why he was one, but he does), which then gets caught up in a twister and transports him all the way to Oz. [Read more…]

Final Oz The Great & Powerful Trailer Arrives – Heading into the wonderful world

March 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s just a week until Oz The Great And Powerful hits cinemas on March 8th, and in case people weren’t excited enough, Disney has released a final trailer showing off the excitement and incredible visuals of Sam Raimi’s movie.

Here’s the official synopsis: ‘Disney’s fantastical adventure “Oz The Great and Powerful,” directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved wizard character. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting.

‘Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great wizard but into a better man as well.’
