New Paddington Trailer – Michael Bond’s bear is headed to the big screen

June 12, 2014 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

paddington-preview-pic2After a couple of images yesterday, we can now get our best look yet at the live-action/CG version of Paddington with a full trailer. Unlike previous promos, this one shows the bear in action, and it’s actually more effective than I thought it might be.

Here’s the official synopsis: ‘From the producer of Harry Potter and Gravity, Paddington comes to the big screen for the first time in an epic new adventure.

‘Featuring an all-star cast and effects courtesy of award-winning VFX company Framestore, Paddington is THE big family film of Christmas.

‘Voted Best Animated Character at the 2012 British Animation Awards, and adapted from Michael Bond’s beloved books, Paddington follows the comic misadventures of a polite young bear with an endearing talent for comic chaos.

‘Paddington has grown up deep in the Peruvian jungle with his Aunt Lucy who, inspired by a chance encounter with an English explorer, has raised her nephew to dream of an exciting life in London. When an earthquake destroys their home, Aunt Lucy decides to smuggle her young nephew on board a boat bound for England, in search of a better life. Arriving alone at Paddington Station, Paddington soon finds that city life is not all he had imagined – until he meets the kindly Brown family, who find him with a label tied around his neck which reads ‘Please look after this bear. Thank you.’ They offer him a temporary home whilst he searches for the explorer who impressed Aunt Lucy all those years before.

‘But when Paddington catches the eye of a sinister, seductive taxidermist, it isn’t long before his home – and very existence – is under threat.’

Paddington is released in UK cinemas November 28th. [Read more…]

The Railway Man (Blu-ray)

May 5, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Colin Firth, Jeremy Irvine, Nicole Kidman, Hiroyuki Sanada, Stellan Skarsgard
Director: Jonathan Teplitzky
Running Time: 116 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: May 5th 2014 (UK)

There is undoubtedly an incredible true story behind The Railway Man, but while this movie certainly lets you know that, as a film in its own right it’s rather spotty.

The movie follows two periods in the life of Eric Lomax. As a middle-aged man (Colin Firth) he meets and falls in love with Patti (Nicole Kidman), however their marital bliss is severely hampered by the fact he suffers severely from what would now be called Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Jude Law Will Replace Michael Fassbender In Genius

April 26, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jude-lawBack in late 2012 it was announced that Colin Firth and Michael Fassbender were set to star in Genius. The film is still in development, but Fassbender is no longer involved, with Deadline reporting Jude Law has taken over his role.

The film is based on A. Scott Berg’s book, Max Perkins: Editor of Genius, which concentrated on the life-changing friendship between iconic author Thomas Wolfe (Jude Law) and his longtime editor, Max Perkins.

Perkins is a bit of a legend in publishing, having helped discover authors such as F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway.

Nicole Kidman is also attached, although it’s not clear who she’ll be playing.

Michael Grandage (The Madness of King George) is directing from a screenplay by John Logan (Skyfall). Filming she to kick off this autumn in the U.K.

Grace Of Monaco Trailer – Nicole Kidman plays the iconic Grace Kelly

March 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Grace Of Monaco has had a few issues. It was originally due for a prime Oscar-bait Christma release in the US, but it got caught up in a massive battle between director Olivier Dahan and the notoriously cut-happy producer Harvey Weinsten, who wanted to release his own version the movie. The fight resulted in the movie getting shunted and it’s unclear when it will come out in the US.

However in the UK there’s a different distributor, Warner Bros., and so a lot fewer problems. They’ve now who’ve set a June 6th British release, as well as briging out a poster and full trailer, which you can see here.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Set in 1962, six years after her celebrated Wedding of the Century, GRACE OF MONACO is an intimate snapshot of a year in the life of the twentieth century’s most iconic Princess – Grace Kelly – as she strived to reconcile her past and her present, a yearning for a return to the big screen with her newfound role as a mother of two, monarch of a European principality and wife to Prince Ranier III.

‘While contemplating overtures from Alfred Hitchcock to return to her career in Hollywood, Grace found herself plunged into a personal crisis when Rainier’s modernization of an ailing Monaco was halted by Charles de Gaulle – the French President – and his attempts to not only impose French taxation on Monaco, but reclaim the principality for France by force.

‘The full-blown international crisis and impending French invasion that loomed – would pose a crisis not just for her family, her marriage and her country, but in Grace’s private life. It would become the moment in which a cinematic icon, an American far from home, would have to face a tough decision – return to her celebrated status as a movie star, globally loved and adored, or accept that she will never act again, embrace her new role and her new identity, her duty to her husband, her children, and the world’s second smallest country that has now become her home.

‘Grace of Monaco is a real-life fairytale, a sweeping romance, a portrait of the cinematic legend of Princess Grace and a realization that love is much more than a passion, but an obligation.’ [Read more…]

Paddington Teaser Trailer – Plus a poster for the Peruvian bear movie

March 4, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Harry Potter producer has just come off a seven-Oscar win for his film, Gravity. I’m not sure his next movie will be able to beat that, but it’s certainly going to be cute. Now the first teaser trailer for Paddington, the live action-CG mix based around the famed children’s character from Deepest Darkest Peru.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From the producer of Harry Potter and Gravity, Paddington comes to the big screen for the first time in an epic new adventure. Starring Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Julie Walters, Peter Capaldi, Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth as the voice of Paddington.

‘Adapted from Michael Bond’s beloved books, Paddington follows the comic misadventures of a polite young bear with an endearing talent for comic chaos.

New Trailer & Character Posters Of Colin Firth, Jeremy Irvine & Nicole Kidman In The Railway Man Debut

November 6, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Railway-Man-character-poster2
The Railway Man is hoping to put in a strong awards run this winter. We’ve already seen it and we reckon it has a great shot at bagging a few awards. Now the movie has debuted a quintet of character posters, showing off Colin Firth, Jeremy Irvine, Nicole Kidman, Stellan Skarsgard and Hiroyuki Sanada in the movie.

It’s certainly a different look for Jeremy Irvine, who looks very different in glasses.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Based on his best-selling memoir, The Railway Man tells the extraordinary and epic true story of Eric Lomax, a British Army officer who is tormented as a prisoner of war at a Japanese labour camp during World War II.  Decades later, Lomax discovers that the Japanese interpreter he holds responsible for much of his treatment is still alive and sets out to confront him, and his haunting past. A powerful tale of survival, love and redemption, THE RAILWAY MAN stars Academy Award-winners Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman, with Jeremy Irvine and Stellan Skarsgård.’

It reaches UK cinemas on January 1st 2014.

Jason Bateman To Helm The Family Fang, With Nicole Kidman Set To Star

November 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jason-batemanJason Bateman’s directorial debut, Bad Words, recently debuted at the Toronto Film Festival, and while it’s yet to reach cinemas, he’s already looking towards his next trip behind the camera, as Deadline reports that he’s signed up to direct and star in The Family Fang.

Nicole Kidman is already attached to star in the adaptation of Kevin Wilson’s book, which is about married performance artists who suck their kids into being a part of their work. When the adult children return home, they are forced to help their parents with one final piece. This brings out all sorts of resentment over how their lives turned out because of their strange upbringing.

David Lindsay-Abaire adapted the screenplay adaptation. The hope is to shoot sometime next year.

Damian Lewis In Talks For Queen of the Desert

Kidman is attached to star as writer, explorer and archaeologist Gertrude Bell, who is credited with being central to the formation of the modern Middle East in the early 20th Century. Grace Of Monaco Teaser – Nicole Kidman does her best Grace Kelly impression

September 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac 2 Comments

The Principality Of Monaco is already a bit techy about Grace Of Monaco, saying they don’t think it’s a proper true representation of a short part of Grace Kelly’s life, after she became wife to the leader of the small nation. But then, ever since Kelly retired from movies when she married, the royal family has been incredibly protective of her and her memory.

Now the first teaser trailer is here.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The story of former Hollywood star Grace Kelly’s crisis of marriage and identity, during a political dispute between Monaco’s Prince Rainier III and France’s Charles De Gaulle, and a looming French invasion of Monaco in the early 1960s.’

The supposed invasion was when French President Charles de Gaulle handed Grace’s husband Crown Prince Rainier (Tim Roth) a six-month deadline to reform Monaco’s financial laws and status as an extreme tax haven. Monaco has said the film overstates the threat of an actual invasion, as well as Kelly’s involvement in it, but then, this is Hollywood – where Grace made her name – so what did they expect?

Frank Langella, Parker Posey, Milo Ventimiglia, and Paz Vega also star. It’s due in UK cinemas at the end of November. [Read more…]

Colin Firth & Nicole Kidman Lead Live-Action Paddington Bear Cast

September 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

colin-firth-2It’s been announced that principal photography has begun for family adventure Paddington, based on the beloved fictional character bear, created by Michael Bond in 1958.

It’s also the first info we’ve had about the cast, which it has to be said is perhaps surprisingly good for the CG-live action mix. Colin Firth gets the lead role as the voice of Paddington Bear, with Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey) as Mr. Brown, who take in the bear from Deepest Darkest Peru when he arrives in London, and Nicole Kidman (The Hours, Rabbit Hole, Moulin Rouge) as an evil taxidermist determined to wreak her revenge. They are joined by Sally Hawkins as Mrs. Brown, Julie Walters as Mrs. Bird, the housekeeper, and Jim Broadbent as Mr. Gruber, the owner of the antiques shop.

The movie will follow the comic misadventures of a young Peruvian bear with a passion for all things British who travels to London in search of a home. Finding himself lost and alone at Paddington Station, he begins to realize that city life is not all he had imagined – until he meets the kindly Brown family who read the label around his neck (‘Please look after this bear. Thank you.’) and offer him a temporary haven. It looks as though his luck has changed until this rarest of bears catches the eye of a museum taxidermist…

The film is produced by Harry Potter’s David Heyman, with Paul King (Come Fly with Me, The Mighty Boosh) directing. It’s due open in the UK November 28, 2014, with The Weinstein Company recently picking up the North American rights, with plans to release it there in the first quarter of 2015.
