Die Hard Prequel in the Works, With Director Len Wiseman Set to Return

October 17, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

die-hard-slideWhile 2013’s A Good Day To Die Hard was a bit of a flop, Fox obviously thinks there’s still mileage in the franchise, as they’ve enlisted Die Hard 4 director Len Wiseman for a prequel, taking us into the life of a young John McLane.

Bruce Willis is likely to return though, as if he likes the script he’ll pop up as the famed action here, with the rest of the movie taking place in flashback.

Deadline reports that the movie largely takes place ‘in 1979, when McClane was a cop in gritty New York City and showing how he became a die hard kind of guy.’

Wiseman will now help develop the movie alongside an as yet unhired screenwriter, with the hope it’ll be in cinemas in 2017.

Total Recall (2012) (Blu-ray)

December 25, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel, Bryan Cranston, Bokeem Woodbine
Director: Len Wiseman
Running Time: 130 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: December 26th 2012

Len Wiseman was always going to face an uphill battle remaking Total Recall, as the moment the film was announced legions of fans of the 1990 Arnie movie rose up to denounce the very idea of a do-over. They quickly decided the entire thing would be a disaster, a feeling that deepened when it was announced Len Wiseman would direct (the naysayers concentrated on the fact he made the Underworld movies, not that he did a pretty good with Die Hard 4.0). On the plus side though, it did mean that all Wiseman had to do to beat many people’s expectations was produce a movie that wasn’t awful, and he’s just about managed to do that. [Read more…]

Director Len Wiseman Takes On The Mummy Reboot

September 25, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For a few months now, Universal has been actively attempting to start their Mummy franchise all over again with a new take on the classic tale. Now they’ve enlisted Len Wiseman to direct the film, according to Deadline.

Prometheus writer Jon Spaihts signed on to provide the screenplay back in April, with Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman producing through their K/O Paper Products company , along with Sean Daniel and James Jacks. Here’s what Len Wiseman had to say about the project, suggesting a scarier take on the classic monster, “When I first heard Universal was relaunching this, that is the image that popped into my head, the period tale, the old monster, but when Bob and Alex pitched it, there was a great new take and approach, and a very different mummy as well. It’s a darker twist on the material, a scarier version.”

Len Wiseman previously worked with Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman when he directed the pilot episode of their CBS series Hawaii Five-0. The director recently released Total Recall, but had more success with Underworld and Die Hard 4.0.

New Total Recall Trailer – Some things are familiar, some are not

June 28, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There’s been a lot of talk about what’s been changed and what’s stayed the same in the new remake of Total Recall, to the point where many have wondered if it’s a remake at all. However this new trailer seems designed to show there’ll be quite a lot of familiar elements, even if it doesn’t head to Mars – hell, there’s even a three-breasted hooker. Here’s the synopsis: ‘Total Recall is an action thriller about reality and memory, inspired anew by the famous short story “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale” by Philip K. Dick. Welcome to Rekall, the company that can turn your dreams into real memories. For a factory worker named Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell), even though he’s got a beautiful wife (Kate Beckinsale) who he loves, the mind-trip sounds like the perfect vacation from his frustrating life – real memories of life as a super-spy might be just what he needs. But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, Quaid becomes a hunted man. Finding himself on the run from the police – controlled by Chancellor Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston), the leader of the free world – Quaid teams up with a rebel fighter (Jessica Biel) to find the head of the underground resistance (Bill Nighy) and stop Cohaagen. The line between fantasy and reality gets blurred and the fate of his world hangs in the balance as Quaid discovers his true identity, his true love, and his true fate.’ It’s due out August 29th.

Die Hard Quadrilogy (Blu-ray)

April 6, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Bruce Willis, Bonnie Bedelia, Alan Rickman, Justin Long, Jeremy Irons
Director: John McTiernan, Renny Harlin, Len Wiseman
Running Time: 503 mins
Certificate: 18
Release Date: April 9th, 2012

There’s a slightly awkward situation with the Die Hard movies in the UK, where the distribution rights for parts 1, 2 and 4 are owned by 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, while Die Hard With A Vengeance is released by Disney (or at least Buena Vista). As a result, getting a box set release of all the movies is a trickier proposition than you’d expect, as you have to get different studios to accept it, and so it’s only now that Fox can bring out a Blu-ray box set containing all four movies, replacing the previous Die Hard Blu-ray set, which lacked part 3!

You’ve undoubtedly seen all four films (and if you haven’t, what are you doing on a film website, reading a review of a Die Hard box set?), but just in case you haven’t, the series follows the exploits of Bruce Willis John McLane, the archetypal right man in the wrong place at the wrong time. Total Recall Trailer – Colin Farell has an identity crisis

April 2, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

This is less a trailer than a lot of flashy images, but it does suggest this new take on Total Recall will be both very different to and yet oddly similar to the Paul Verhoeven version, as well as rather hectic. Here’s the synopsis: ‘Welcome to Rekall, the company that can turn your dreams into real memories. For a factory worker named Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell), even though he’s got a beautiful wife (Kate Beckinsale) who he loves, the mind-trip sounds like the perfect vacation from his frustrating life – real memories of life as a super-spy might be just what he needs. The line between fantasy and reality gets blurred and the fate of his world hangs in the balance as Quaid discovers his true identity, his true love, and his true fate.’ The film’s due out August 22nd.

Total Recall Trailer Teaser & Great New Banner Image

March 28, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Why do futures always have to be so dystopian? While we’ve only got 30 seconds of the new Total Recall so far, it certainly suggests this future won’t be issue free, although it could be pretty cool. This is just a teaser for a full trailer that’s expected in the next few days. The new take on Total Recall sees Colin Farrell as a factory worker (Farrell) who begins to suspect that he’s a spy, though he is unaware which side of the fight he’s on – Euromerica or New Shanghai, the nation states that are vying for supremacy. It seems it’ll be a very different film to the early 90s Paul Verhoeven movie and just a different again to the original Phillip K Dick story, We Can Remember It For You Wholesale. The film’s due out August 22nd and you can also see a great new banner image for the film below.

Total Recall Official Synopsis Revealed

January 17, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There’s been a bit of confusion over the remake of Total Recall, with some saying it would still involve the main character going to Mars, other that the Red Planet was out, with most hedging their bets on what was going on. However now the official synopsis has dropped, and it appears that Mars is indeed out, with things staying earthbound this time around.

The line between fantasy and reality gets blurred and the fate of his world hangs in the balance as Quaid discovers his true identity, his true love, and his true fate.’

It sounds kind of like the Schwarzenegger version, but not really, but it could well be a decent film. The Len Wiseman directed movie arrives in cinemas in August.
