Many thought Ted sounded like a premise that was never going to work, but the R-rated talking teddy movie became a major hit. It’s the same with Seth MacFarlane’s follow-up, as A Million Ways To Die In The West, which doesn’t sound like a big grosser on paper, but could surprise us on its summer 2014.

Now a set of character posters have arrived, featuring MacFarlane, Charlize Theron, Amanda Seyfried, Giovanni Ribisi, Neil Patrick Harris, Sarah Silverman and Liam Neeson.

The movie is about a cowardly sheep farmer (MacFarlane) backs out of a gunfight, his fickle girlfriend (Seyfried) leaves him for another man (Patrick Harris). When a mysterious and beautiful woman (Theron) rides into town, she helps him find his courage and they begin to fall in love. But when her husband, a notorious outlaw (Neeson), arrives seeking revenge, the farmer must put his newfound courage to the test.

Now the first image from the movie has arrived, featuring MacFarlane alongside Amanda Seyfried, Neil Patrick Harris and Charlize Theron.

Seth MacFarlane Suggests Ted 2 Is Coming Spring 2015

August 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ted-Movie-Poster-SXSWAfter the massive success of Ted, Universal was quick to sign Seth MacFarlane to make a sequel. However with his TV shows to run and a new live action film, A Million Ways To Die In The West, in post-production, it hasn’t been clear when he’d return to talking teddy bears.

Now MacFarlane has revealed on his Twitter page this week that he is aiming to release the comedy sequel Ted 2 in the spring of 2015. He said, ‘RT @JohnnyMctardo: @SethMacFarlane when is Ted 2? // We’re aiming for a 2015 Passover release date.’

Passover begins on Friday, April 3 in the 2015, which is also Easter weekend. It also means it’ll arrive ahead of what’s lining up to be a ridiculously massive and competitive summer movie seasons, with films such as Star Wars: Episode VII, Man of Steel 2 (with Batman), Jurassic Park IV and The Avengers: Age of Ultron slated for release that year.

Seth MacFarlane is expected to return as writer-director and the voice of Ted, along with Mark Wahlberg as John Bennett. Seth MacFarlane co-wrote the original Ted screenplay with Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild, who are also expected to return the sequel.

Sarah Silverman Joins Seth MacFarlane’s A Million Ways to Die in the West

March 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

sarah-silvermanSeth MacFarlane is busy putting together the cast of his comedy western with A Million Ways to Die in the West, with MacFarlane set to star alongside Amanda Seyfried, Charlize Theron, Liam Neeson, and Giovanni Ribisi. Now THR reports that Sarah Silverman is in negotiations to play a prostitute in the movie.

The film is about a timid farmer (Seth MacFarlane) whose girlfriend (Amanda Seyfried) leaves him for another man after he runs away from a gunfight. In the hope of winning her back, he enlists the help of the wife of a notorious outlaw’s wife (Charlize Theron), to teach him to become a better gunman. However, his skills are severely tested when the woman’s angry husband (Liam Neeson) comes riding into town.

Sarah Silverman will be involved in a subplot as the town’s prostitute, who ironically won’t have sex with her fiancée (Giovanni Ribisi), because she wants to wait until they are married.

Seth MacFarlane is set to direct from a screenplay he wrote alongside Ted co-writers Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild. Shooting will start later this spring.

Liam Neeson & Giovanni Ribisi Find A Million Ways To Die For Seth MacFarlane

March 7, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

liam-neeson-taken-pic1After the success of Ted, it’s little suprise that actors are queueing up for Seth MacFarlane’s follow-up, A Million Ways To Die. Charlize Theron, Amanda Seyfried, and MacFarlane himself are already set to star, and now THR reports that Liam Neeson has signed up, with Deadline adding that Ted star Giovanni Ribisi will also be part of the film.

A Million Ways To Die In The West is a comedy western about a mild-mannered farmer called Albert (MacFarlane) who chickens out when a gunfight erupts on his property. Annoyed at his singular lack of spine, his girlfriend (Seyfried) ditches him.

In the hope of winning her back, he makes a deal with the wife (Theron) of a notorious outlaw (Neeson), to teach him how to handle a gun and be a bit more of a badass. However, as he starts getting closer to the sharp-shooting woman, trouble erupts when her vicious husband reappears. Ribisi will play Albert’s friend Edward, described as “a simple shoe repairman who bears up with a girlfriend who won’t have sex with him, but as a working prostitute she’s doing it with everybody else.” He’s involved in a side plot where Albert tries to get Edward into the dating scene.

MacFarlane co-wrote the script with Ted cohorts Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild, with the movie being described as being similar in tone to Blazing Saddles. The plan is to start shooting in May.

No Gay Winners, But It May Still Be The Gayest Oscars Ever

February 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

seth-macfarlane-oscarsWhile there were a few gay Oscar nominees, such as Lincoln screenwriter Tony Kushner, there wasn’t as much homo interest amongst the Academy Award hopefuls as there have been in the last few years, and sadly none of those who did get the nod, actually won.

However, to make up for that, it may well have been one of the gayest Oscars ever. Producers Neil Meron and Craig Zadan (who are gay themselves) themed the evening as a celebration of movie musicals, which involved the cast of Les Miserables singing a medley of songs from the show, Jennifer Hudson returning to Dreamgirls and Catherine Zeta-Jones getting her Chicago on.

While some may have thought that was gay enough, they also threw in a heap of warbling divas such as Shirley Bassey, Barbra Streisand and Adele, got the likes of Charlize Theron and Channing Tatum ballroom dancing, while host Seth McFarlane had a bit of a song and dance with Daniel Radcliffe and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

The show signalled to viewers that this year’s Oscar were going to be a bit fabulous early on, with the LA Gay Men’s Chorus showing up during the opening musical segment, helping MacFarlane with his ‘We Saw Your Boobs’ number. And if a William Shatner is to be believed (who popped up as Captain Kirk, travelling back in time to tell Seth he’ll be the worst host ever), MacFarlane will be joining the Chorus himself in 2015.

It was certainly a rather camp evening, which isn’t a bad thing, as it helped to keep it entertaining – something that’s been an increasing challenge in recent years, where various producers have struggled with putting on a big show while also having to get through all the awards.

MacFarlane also made a good host. While he has a couple of false starts, he quickly relaxed into the role and kept things moving – some criticised some of his edgier jokes, but he was actually a lot tamer than many who know his work might have imagined. He was well aware of how camp things had gotten though, even joking at one point that they were reuniting the cast of Chicago on stage, as the show hadn’t been gay enough already.

Amanda Seyfried Finds Seth MacFarlane’s Million Ways To Die In The West

February 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

amanda-seyfriedJust last week, Seth MacFarlane managed to sign Charlize Theron up for his follow-up to Ted, the comedy Western A Million Ways To Die In The West. Now, despite being busy preparing to host the Oscars, he’s got another lady interested in his movie – Amanda Seyfried – who’s currently in talks to join the film.

A Million Ways To Die In The West is about a mild-mannered farmer (MacFarlane) who chickens out when a gunfight erupts on his property. Annoyed at his singular lack of spine, his girlfriend (Seyfried) ditches him.

In the hope of winning her back, he makes a deal with the wife (Theron) of a notorious outlaw, to teach him how to handle a gun and be a bit more of a badass. However, as he starts getting closer to the sharp-shooting woman, trouble erupts when her vicious husband reappears.

Charlize Theron Up For Seth MacFarlane’s Million Ways To Die In The West

January 31, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

charlize-theronYou’d think Seth MacFarlane would be too busy preparing to host the Oscars to do much else at the moment (and that’s ignoring the fact he has three TV shows on the air), but he’s also busy moving forward on his follow-up to Ted, A Million Ways to Die in the West.

THR reports that he’s starting to piece the cast together, with Charlize Theron now in negotiations to star alongside Seth himself in the movie.

The ‘Blazing Saddles-style comedy’ is about a meek farmer whose girlfriend leaves him after he backs out of a gunfight. He meets the wife of a notorious outlaw who offers to teach him how to shoot. However what first seems to be a chance to win back his girlfriend turns into something else when he falls for the women. Things inevitably get complicated when the outlaw returns to reclaim his woman.

The plan is start shooting the film in May.

Seth MacFarlane Says Family Guy Movie Is ‘Just A Matter Of When’

December 1, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There are a lot of Family Guy fans out there who’d love a movie featuring Quahog’s Griffin clan, especially after seeing with Ted that Seth MacFarlane’s particular brand of humour works perfectly on film.

Now MacFarlane has been talking about a Family Guy film and said during a visit to UCLA that “it’s just a matter of when.” However fitting it into the schedule while they’ve got 20-odd half-hour episodes to produce each year is tough – as Seth pointed out, it’s why it took The Simpsons 20 years to get to the big screen.

There is a plan is place though, with MacFarlane saying, “We do know what the Family Guy movie will be. The Simpsons movie, I thought, was hilarious, but the one criticism I would have is that it’s a story they probably could’ve done on TV. There could’ve been an episode that had that plotline. That’s the challenge with animation. You pretty much can do any story you want, so what is the reason for the movie? We finally hit on the answer to that question, and it will be something that would be impossible to do on TV.”

That suggests it’s either a story that’s too big to tell on TV (although that would seem unlikely, considering they’ve done the entire Star Wars original trilogy Family Guy-style for television), or deal with subjects that are too rude or controversial for the networks. That would seem far more likely, seeing as Fox has refused to air two episodes of the show that were made – one dealing with abortion and the other that could possibly have been offensive to Jews (although it wasn’t, at all).

So we’re just gonna have to wait and hopefully it’ll come sooner rather than later.
