New Pics From Darren Aronofsky’s Noah Suggest A Different Type Of Biblical Epic

August 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

noah-pic4
It would have been a surprise if Darren Aronofsky made a biblical epic and it turned out to be generic Hollywood action. And if these new pics are any indication, this will be a rather different type of movie, taking the story of Noah and giving it a more naturalistic feel than most Biblical movies (if we ignore that the film thinks everyone living in the Middle East thousands of years ago was white).

The film follows Noah (Russell Crowe), who lives on a vast plain of volcanic ash in the lee of a volcanic glacier (the movie’s being shot in Iceland) and has to trek up a mountain every day to get to work. He is told by God to build an enormous vessel to house both his family and the animals of the world to preserve them from a flood that promises to wipe out a sin-filled world. It’s currently due for release on March 28th, 2014.

While the film hasn’t had much mainstream marketing yet, Paramount is already courting faith organisations in the US, hoping they will turn out in droves for the movie. It’s currently due for release on March 28th, 2014.

Noah Image Gives Us Our First Look Inside The Ark

September 26, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Darren Aronofsky has been busy shooting his long-gestating biblical epic Noah for the past few weeks, and he’s even built much of the exterior of an ark to help to the story. However we haven’t had any idea what things might look like inside the giant boat. Now Director of Photography Matthew Libatique has tweeted a concept image giving us a glimpse into the ark, and shows that with limited space and a whole world of animals to save, things like snakes are just going to have to go into piles.

Noah stars Russell Crowe as the title character, with Jennifer Connelly, Saoirse Ronan, Douglas Booth, Logan Lerman, Emma Watson, Ray Winstone, Anthony Hopkins, Kevin Durand and Mark Margolis also set to star. The film is currently set for release on March 28th, 2014

First Pic Of Russell Crowe In Noah Revealed

August 12, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The first image from Darren Arnofsky’s Noah has been revealed over at USA Today. As you can see above, it’s not particularly revelatory, although does suggest Russell Crowe’s Noah isn’t going to be the serene Biblical patriarch he’s often painted as.

The film follows Noah, who lives on a vast plain of volcanic ash in the lee of a volcanic glacier (the movie’s being shot in Iceland) and has to trek up a mountain every day to get to work. He is told by God to build an enormous vessel to house both his family and the animals of the world to preserve them from a flood that promises to wipe out a sin-filled world. Noah Adds Kevin Durand & Dakota Goyo

July 20, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Director Darren Aronofsky is bulking up his cast for Noah, both literally and figuratively, with 6’6″ actor Kevin Durand signing on for the film. Dakota Goyo, who starred in Real Steel alongside Kevin Durand, has also joined the cast as the younger version of Noah, according to Variety.

The bbilical story follows Noah (Russell Crowe), who has grown tired of the way humans have treated God’s creation of Earth. Kevin Durand will play a ‘watcher,’ a massive giant who helps Noah and his family (biblical giant such as Goliath are often believed to be the offspring of angels and humans). Jennifer Connelly, Douglas Booth, and Logan Lerman star as Noah’s wife and sons, with Emma Watson, Ray Winstone, and Anthony Hopkins also signed up.

Darren Aronofsky is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Ari Handel. Shooting is expeted to begin very soon.

Anthony Hopkins Joins Darren Aronofsky’s Noah

July 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The only thing anyone knows about Methusaleh is that he’s the oldest person in the Bible, dying at the age of 969. However he kicked the bucket just days before the Great Flood, and so will be making an appearance in Darren Aronofsky’s Noah, in the form of Anthony Hopkins.

Aronofsky announced the news himself on Twitter, saying, “I’m honored to be working with the great sir Anthony Hopkins. We just added him to the stellar cast of #Noah. ‪#methuselahlives‬.”

Quite what he’ll do in Noah is anyone’s guess, as in the Bible he’s only mentioned once and it only says how old he was, however traditionally he’s been the grandfather of Noah and was told by Enoch of the coming flood. God even delays the start of the flood due to seven days of mourning for the ancient Methuselah.

Russell Crowe will play the title role in Noah, starring alongside Saoirse Ronan, Douglas Booth, Logan Lerman, Ray Winstone, and Emma Watson.

Ray Winstone In Talks To Join Noah As The Bad Guy

June 12, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A month or so ago Liam Neeson was in talks to play the bad guy in Darren Aronofsky’s biblical epic Noah. That didn’t work out, and now the role looks like it’s going to Ray Winstone, who’s in talks to join the film, according to Deadline.

Russell Crowe will take the title role, with Logan Lerman, Douglas Booth and Emma Watson also set to star. Although in the bible, the main baddie for Noah is the weather, Aronfsky’s film will add in a human nemesis, played by Winston, who presumably thinks building arks is the dumbest thing in the world.

Jennifer Connelly is still being eyed as Noah’s wife, but nothing’s been signed as yet. Aronofsky’s going to have to make a decision soon, as the movie is set to shoot later this summer.

Emma Watson In Talks For Darren Aronofsky’s Noah

June 8, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While Emma Watson said she was going to college after Harry Potter and then put those plans on hold for a year to pursue more acting gigs, it appears she won’t be back at university, at least this year, as she’s now in talks to join director Darren Aronofsky’s Biblical epic Noah, according to Deadline.

The actress will play Ila, a young woman who strikes up a relationship with the title character’s son, Shem (Douglas Booth). Russell Crowe is playing Noah, and Logan Lerman will play another of his sons, Shem. Noah’s nemesis still has to be cast, and Jennifer Connelly is still in talks to play the ark-builder’s wife.

Darren Aronofsky is directing from a script he co-wrote with Ari Handel. Paramount and New Regency are both producing and co-financing the project. It isn’t known when production will start.

Hotties Douglas Booth & Logan Lerman Join Noah

June 5, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It turns out the biblical Noah’s sons were pretty good looking, or at least they will be in Darren Aronofsky’s biblical epic, simply titled Noah. Deadline reports that hot young actors Douglas Booth (LOL) and Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson) have signed on to star in the film.

They are set to play the kids of Russell Crowe’s title character, with Douglas Booth portraying the younger Shem, and Logan Lerman starring as his older brother, Ham. Still to be cast are Noah’s nemesis (a role Liam Neeson was rumoured for, but he now seems to be out of the running), a love interest for Ham and Noah’s third son.

Back in April Jennifer Connelly was said to be in talks to play Noah’s wife. She’s still now signed up but is still a top contender for the role, but there are other candidates in the mix.

Darren Aronofsky is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Ari Handel. It’s believed it will shoot later this summer.

Jennifer Connelly & Saoirse Ronan Rumoured For Aronofsky’s Noah

April 17, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The last time Jennifer Connelly teamed up with director Darren Aronofsky, for Requiem For A Dream, it didn’t exactly go well for her character. Hopefully things will go a little better for her if rumours are true the Connelly is in talks to star in Aronofsky’s Noah – even if the film is dealing with the death of virtually every human on the planet.

The Tracking Board has the news, and says that Paramount is also showing interest in Saoirse Ronan for a supporting role. Jennifer Connelly will play Naameh, the wife of Russell Crowe’s title character, with the film giving an action-packed take on the biblical story of The Flood. As for Ronan’s charcter, it isn’t known which character she would play, or indeed whether an offer has been made to the actress yet.

Darren Aronofsky will direct from a screenplay he co-wrote with Ari Handel, with production scheduled to begin in June.

Russell Crowe Officially In Talks For Aronofsky’s Noah

February 29, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Darren Aronofsky has wanted to make a biblical epic about Noah for years, but it’s only recently he’s secured funding to make it a reality. First he wanted Christian Bale in the lead role, but he was too busy, and then more recently Aronofsky’s eye fell on Russell Crowe.

At the time it wasn’t known what Crowe thought of this, but now Variety reports Russell’s officially in negotiations to portray the title character in this revisionist take on the classic story, which is rumoured to be quite tough and may even get a R-rating.

Darren Aronofsky is directing Noah from a script he co-wrote with Ari Handel. John Logan (Hugo) performed the latest rewrite.

The hope is to start shooting in July for release in 2013.
