Bohemian Rhapsody Trailer – Rami Malek takes on the legendary Freddie Mercury

July 17, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Queen biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody was in the works for years, working its ways through numerous directors and potential stars before it finally settled on Bryan Singer behind the camera and Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury. However, drama hit when Singer was sensationally fired after problems on set and then taking an unscheduled break. He was replaced by Dexter Fletcher.

More controversy arose with when the first trailer completely ignored Freddie’s sexuality. It seems that’s something the marketing people have taken onboard, ensuring that in the new trailer we see talk of Mercury’s private life and even a joke about ‘hysterical Queens’ (plus a brief shot of him getting up close and personal with another guy).

Here’s the synopsis: ‘BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY is a foot-stomping celebration of Queen, their music and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury, who defied stereotypes and shattered convention to become one of the most beloved entertainers on the planet.

‘The film traces the meteoric rise of the band through their iconic songs and revolutionary sound, their near-implosion as Mercury’s lifestyle spirals out of control, and their triumphant reunion on the eve of Live Aid, where Mercury, facing a life-threatening illness, leads the band in one of the greatest performances in the history of rock music. In the process, cementing the legacy of a band that were always more like family, and who continue to inspire outsiders, dreamers and music lovers to this day.’

Alongside Rami Malek, the film stars Lucy Boynton, Gwilym Lee, Ben Hardy, Joseph Mazzello, Aidan Gillen, Allen Leech, Tom Hollander and Mike Myers. Take a look at the trailer below. The film will be in cinemas on October 24th. [Read more…]

Hot To Trot Trailer – Competitive same-sex Ballroom Dancing gets its own documentary

July 11, 2018 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Synopsis: ‘An immersive character study – and an idiosyncratic attack on bigotry – Hot to Trot gets up on the stage and goes behind the scenes to discover the captivating but little known world of same-sex competitive ballroom dance, a world where expressions of personal passion become a political statement, and where one false step can crush aspirations.

‘Away from their graceful turns on the dance floor, the characters’ backstories frame their struggles and conflicts in life. The film follows charismatic Ernesto Palma, a former meth addict from Costa Rica, who strives for success and love; gritty, determined Emily Coles, a diabetic who wears an insulin pump 24/7…even while performing; handsome Nikolai Shpakov, a dazzling dance champion, who came out only a few years ago and still longs for the full acceptance of his Russian family; and introspective Kieren Jameson, whose identity was forged in the strict, conservative environment of a New Zealand military household. Hot to Trot follows the dancers over a four-year period, as it watches their relationships with family, dance partners, life partners – and themselves – develop and deepen.

‘For these individuals, dance is a form of personal power and political engagement that simultaneously shapes their identities and helps them overcome uniquely personal challenges. They are not mere emblems of LGBTQ politics – they are living them.’

The film will open in Los Angeles at Laemmle Music Hall on September 14, 2018, following the New York premiere on August 24 at the Quad. It will then screen in other cities across the US. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Ideal Home UK Trailer – Paul Rudd & Steve Coogan become a bickering gay couple

May 14, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Last month we got our first look at Ideal Home, which sees Paul Rudd and Steve Coogan teaming up to play a married gay couple. That trailer got a lot of people hot under the cover about how good Rudd looks with full beard.

Now it’s been announced that Ideal Home will be available in cinemas and on Digital HD from 6th July 2018, courtesy of Signature Entertainment. Alongside that has come the UK trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Flamboyant TV chef Erasmus Brumble (Coogan) along with his director and long-term partner Paul (Rudd), are happy going through life playing as hard as they work. But suddenly they have to decide whether to grow-up or continue down their well-trodden path, when Erasmus’s estranged grandson, Bill (played by Jack Gore), unexpectedly turns up at their door, after his father is taken away to serve time in prison.

‘Having another mouth to feed can always come with its strains, but the couple’s fears that they are not yet cut out to be devoted parents become apparent very quickly, with their lavish social lifestyle (and an extensive erotic film collection) getting in the way of their duties as responsible guardians. As unsuited as this small family may initially seem, the loving bond they eventually form is threatened to be broken when Bill’s father warns he’ll take him away upon his release from jail.’
