Take A Look Behind-The-Scenes Of The Movie G.B.F. (Gay Best Friend) & Help Fund It

March 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

G.B.F. (Gay Best Friend) is set to premiere at Tribeca next month, but it’s still looking for completion funds by launching a crowd-sourcing campaign to raise $30,000 to complete the movie, get it to festivals, pay for the music and help with marketing costs. And to help see if you want to be part of the film, they’ve released a behind-the-scenes look at the movie, which you can watch above.

The film has a great cast including queer actor Paul Iacono (The Hard Times of R.J. Berger), Megan Mullaly (Will & Grace), Michael J. Willett (United States of Tara), Natasha Lyonne, Rebecca Gayheart, Jonathan Silverman and Horatio Sanz.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘G.B.F. tells the story of two closeted best friends, Tanner (Michael J. Willett, United States of Tara) and Brent (Paul Iacono, The Hard Times of R.J. Berger). Brent longs for the spotlight and has a plan that will make him the most popular kid in school. He believes that coming out will make him instantly popular, as the newest must-have teen girl “accessory”: The G.B.F. (Gay Best Friend). Tanner on the other hand, would rather fly under the radar and graduate from high school without ever being noticed.

‘When things don’t go according to plan and Tanner is outed instead of Brent, the two boys go from B.F.F.s to instant frenemies and the three most popular girls in school — queen-of-mean bombshell Fawcett (Sasha Pieterse, Pretty Little Liars), drama club diva Caprice (Xosha Roquemore, Precious) and sweet, Mormon good-girl ‘Shley (Andrea Bowen, Desperate Housewives) launch an all-out social war to win Tanner’s status-enhancing friendship.’

You can find out more over at the film’s IndieGogo page.

Love Free or Die Trailer – Inside the life of gay bishop Gene Robinson

March 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Wolfe Video has set an April 9th US DVD release date for the documentary Love Free Or Die, about retired Episcopalian Bishop Gene Robinson, who caused great controversy in 2004 when he became the first priest in an openly gay relationship to be consecrated as a bishop in a major Christian denomination.

His ordination threatened to cause a schism in the worldwide communion, with many saying being gay and in a relationship was incompatible with the Christian faith. However Robinson didn’t let that put him off, and over the years has become increasingly vocal in the civil rights struggle, getting married and calling on those who use faith to say being gay is wrong to realise that they are incorrect.

The documentary won a Special Jury Prize at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. Take a look at the trailer above. [Read more…]

Behind The Candelabra Tease Arrives – The secret life of Liberace

March 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There’s a lot of interest in Behind The Candelabra – and with good reason. Oscar winner Steven Soderbergh directs, with Michael Douglas as Liberace and Matt Damon as his young lover, Scott Thorson. How wouldn’t want to watch that?

Now HBO has released a tease for the TV movie. Sadly it doesn’t feature any footage from the film, instead merely letting us know this movie about ‘The Secret Life Of Liberace’ is coming.

Hopefully we’ll get to see a lot more soon. The film is due to debut on HBO in the US in May, and will hopefully arrive in the UK soon afterwards.

If you fancy learning a bit more about the film, including what Matt Damon and Steven Soderbergh had to say about it at a recent press event, click here.

Here’s the official synopsis: ‘Before Elvis, before Elton John, Madonna and Lady Gaga, there was Liberace: virtuoso pianist, outrageous entertainer and flamboyant star of stage and television. A name synonymous with showmanship, extravagance and candelabras, he was a world renowned performer with a flair that endeared him to his audiences and created a loyal fan base spanning his 40-year career. Liberace lived lavishly and embraced a lifestyle of excess both on and off stage. In summer 1977, handsome young stranger Scott Thorson walked into his dressing room and, despite their age difference and seemingly different worlds, the two embarked on a secretive five-year love affair. BEHIND THE CANDELABRA takes a behind-the-scenes look at their tempestuous relationship — from their first meeting backstage at the Las Vegas Hilton to their bitter and public break-up.’

The film is about the passengers and crew of a seemingly doomed passenger plane as panic overtakes the aircraft. The film features Javier Camara, Cecilia Roth, Lola Duenas, Raul Arevalo, Carlos Areces, Antonio de la Torre, Hugo Silva, along with ‘special collaborations’ with Penelope Cruz, Antonio Banderas and Paz Vega.

Monster Pies Trailer – A gay Aussie flick inspired by Romeo & Juliet

February 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Last year Private Romeo turned Romeo & Juliet gay and set it in a US military school, and now there’s a new same-sex romanctic movie inspired by Shakespeare’s great play – Monster Pies.

The film is due to debut next month at the Melbourne Queer Film Festival, and you can watch the trailer above.

Gay Star News caught up with director Lee Galea, who told them that he wrote the story when he was 15 and ‘wanted to fall in love’. He says that ‘I was studying Romeo and Juliet and I got the idea of telling a similar story with two teenage boys.’

The movie is about Mike who gets paired up for a school assignment on Romeo and Juliet with new kid William. However as the two spend more and more time working together on a monster movie version of the Bard’s classic tale, they begin to realise their feelings for one another may be more powerful than either of them is truly ready for.

Take a look at the trailer above. [Read more…]

Men to Kiss Trailer – Gay couples get a bit saucy in Berlin

February 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

From this new trailer for Men To Kiss, it’s a bit tough to tell exactly what the movie is about, other than that it’ll feature plenty of men snogging and getting rather saucy, along with a lot of comedy madness.

The movie is actually about gay couple, Tobi and Ernie, who are being visited by Ernie’s old friend Uta. However, what at first looks like an innocent house-call, turns into an insidious attack on the couple’s relationship.

We’re not entirely sure when the movie is getting released, but it must be on LGBT specialist distributor TLA’s list (as they released the trailer), so expect it later this year. [Read more…]

February 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

geography-club-posterThere ought to be more gay-themed teen movies. One that’ll hopefully arrive soon is Geography Club, which has just released its first trailer – and you can watch that below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Based on Brent Hartinger’s best-selling critically acclaimed novel, Geography Club is a smart, fast, and funny account of contemporary teenagers as they discover their own sexual identities, dreams, and values. 16-year old Russell is still going on dates with girls while having a secret relationship with football quarterback Kevin, who will do anything to prevent his football teammates from finding out. Min and Terese tell everyone that they’re just really good friends. And then there’s Ike who can’t figure out who he is or who he wants to be. Finding the truth too hard to hide, they all decide to form the Geography Club, thinking nobody else in their right mind would ever want to join. However, their secrets may soon be discovered and they could have to face the choice of revealing who they really are.’
