Matt Riddlehoover’s New Comedy Paternity Leave, Starring Chris Salvatore & Charlie David, Wants Your Help

June 17, 2014 By Tim Isaac 2 Comments

paternity-leave2A couple of weeks ago we helped announce Scenes From A Gay Marriage director Matt Riddlehoover‘s new movie, Paternity Leave, with the news he’d signed up gay film luminaries Charlie David (Mulligans, Judas Kiss) and Chris Salvatore (Eating Out series) to star.

Now an IndieGoGo campaign is in full swing for the movie, which is already more than halfway to the $5,000 its hoping to raise, which will allows it to start shooting in the next few month.

Amy Kelly (West Hollywood Motel), Rodiney Santiago (Logo’s The A List: New York), Tia Shearer (Make-out with Violence), Rafael Sochakov (Rent, Footloose) and Jacob York (Topher Payne’s Angry Fags – and pictured above, between Charlie David and Chris Salvatore) are also set to star in the gay-themed movie, which is all about a man who gets pregnant. Riddlehoover co-wrote the script with Dustin Tittle.

Of course there are also plenty of great perks available, ranging from a ‘thanks’ in the credits for $10 to an Executive Producer credit, set visit and cast party if you want to give a full $5,000. Take a look at the pitch video below, and then if you want to help out head over to IndieGoGo. [Read more…]

Gay Thriller Grinder Asks ‘Is There Really Gay For Pay?’ As It Seeks Crowdfunding Cash

June 16, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

grinder-kickstarterCrowdfunding is increasingly becoming the way forward for gay-themed movies, which often find themselves starved for cash from more traditional sources. While many are your typical rom-coms and drama, it’s always nice when a thriller is thrown into the mix.

Now we’ve got a new one, Grinder, which has just launched a Kickstarter for $15,000, which it hopes will let it start production this August. The idea is that for $25 or more, you are essentially purchasing a copy of the film before it’s been shot, as most of the incentives include access to the film once it’s finished, either streaming online or on a DVD.

So what’s it’s all about? Well the makers let us know that, ‘Grinder, written by Brandon Ruckdashel (Co-ed Confidential, Changing the Game) will be directed by Emmy winning film director Joe Gallant (The Guiding Light, Avenue X). Upcoming actors Vincent Riley and Richard Biglia will join veteran film actors Ruckdashel, Derrick Damions, and Linda Elizabeth in this New York based thriller.

‘Grinder is a story about a teen boy Luke (Riley) who is seduced into the bright lights of New York city by an older model agent and magazine publisher Rich (Damions). The promises made turn into a dark seduction as Riley’s character is turned from aspiring model into an inexperienced hustler. As the story progresses Luke is met by Tim, a former gay-for-pay hustler who has returned to the lifestyle in a bid to raise enough money to leave town with his girlfriend, but all is not as it seems when it becomes clear that Sarah (Freund) is falling back in love with her old flame Marco (Biglia).’

If that sounds like something that would interest you, take a look at the video below, then head over to the Kickstarter and make a donation. [Read more…]

Romeo & Romeo Trailer – The high and lows of love and life for a young gay rocker

June 16, 2014 By Tim Isaac 4 Comments

romeo-and-romeoHow do you get a trailer before a film has been shot? It’s actually more common than you might expect, as it’s a great way to drum up interest, especially if the plan is to get the film in the can and onto screens as quickly as possible.

The trailer above for the upcoming gay-themed film Romeo & Romeo gives us a taste of the movie, which should shoot this summer ready for a planned premiere by December!

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Zak Lawson was a pop star who came out of nowhere, and reached the top of the billboard charts at the age of 14. He met bad boy Trent at the peak of his career, bad news. Trent dragged Zak down a road full of drugs and alcohol. He spiralled out of control, and his career was over. Years later Zak faces the past head on, finding out buried secrets which test his sobriety.’

At the moment Tyler Bradley is going to be very busy, playing the lead role, co-writing the script, producing and directing the film. You can find out more about the movie on its Facebook page. [Read more…]

Elton John’s Billy Elliot The Musical Is Heading To Cinemas For One Night Only

June 16, 2014 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

BILLY-ELLIOTT-LIVE-ONE-SHEETOn Sunday 28th September 2014, the very LGBTQ-friendly Billy Elliot the Musical is set to bring cinema goers to their feet when it is broadcast live from the West End to cinemas across the UK and around the world.

Based on the Academy Award nominated film, Billy Elliot the Musical has been dazzling London’s theatergoers at the Victoria Palace Theatre since 2005, and has gone on to captivate audiences around the world, winning over 80 theatre awards globally including 10, 2009 Tony Awards and 5 Olivier Awards.

Set in a northern mining town against the background of the 1984/’85 miners’ strike, Billy Elliot is the inspirational story of a young boy’s struggle against the odds to make his dream come true. Billy’s journey takes him out of the boxing ring and into a ballet class where he discovers a passion for dance that inspires his family and whole community and changes his life forever.

The internationally celebrated show, which has now been seen by over 9.5 million people worldwide, is brought to life by the multiple award-winning creative team behind the film including writer Lee Hall (book & lyrics), director Stephen Daldry, and choreographer, Peter Darling, joined by music legend Elton John who composed the show’s score.

Elton commented,  “Billy Elliot has always had a very special place in my heart and being involved in the musical has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.  Broadcasting the show live to cinemas is a new venture for all of us and will make for a very special event.  It’s going to be a thrilling day for everyone at our home at the Victoria Palace Theatre in London and we hope cinema audiences will be as excited as we are to see Billy Elliot the Musical brought to life for the first time on screen.”

Lee Hall meanwhile had this to say, “It will be great to see Billy Elliot achieve another milestone at what is set to be an amazing event.  At our home in the West End we usually perform to an audience of 1,500.  It is wonderful to think that this special performance will be seen by people in their local cinemas across many countries. This next chapter will be particularly poignant for us as Billy will briefly be returning to his beginnings on the cinema screen.”

New Father Of The Bride Film Plans A Gay Wedding, With Steve Martin Returning

June 16, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

father-of-the-bride-1991How do you make a Father Of The Bride movie without a bride? As a result, don’t be surprised if the film changes its name to Father Of The Groom, but a third movie in the Steve Martin franchise is being planned, which will revolve around his gay son.

According to nikkifinke.com, a follow up to 1991’s Father Of The Bride and its 1995 sequel is in the works, which will see Steve Martin back as George Banks. While the first two movies followed Banks as he gave away his daughter and then had to learn to accept that she was now a woman, the third instalment will shift the focus to his son, Matty (originally played by Kieran Culkin), who’s now 29 and lets his parents know he intends to marry the son of a Navy SEAL.

George is apparently “thunderstruck and speechless”, as he’s not a big fan of all things gay. However in a show of solidarity with her child, George’s reaction results in his wife Nina (Diane Keaton) kicking him out of the house.

There are rights issues to be sorted, as while Disney/Touchstone made the 1991 and 1995 movies, Warner Bros now owns the original 1950 Father Of The Bride, starring Spencer Tracy, that the Steve Martin films were based on. Disney is apparently keen to make the new film and are currently trying to get the rights issues straightened. And with more and more US States allowing gay people to get married, it may allow them to catch the Zeitgeist (if the film is good).

Assuming everything is sorted out, original director and co-writer Charles Shyer will return to helm this third movie.

Learn To Body Roll With The Male Strippers From Joe Manganiello’s La Bare

June 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

la-bare-biggerJoe Manganiello likes male strippers, or at least he became fascinated with them after Magic Mike,  to the point where he’s made his directorial debut with a documentary about them. The film is due to debut in the US later this month, and to get us in the mood a new clip has been released where we get to find out how to do the body roll.

You can take a look at that below, but be prepared to have a hot flush! Unfortunately I don’t think I’d look as sexy if I tried to do it.

la-bare-body-roll

Manganiello said of the film at its Slamdance premiere, “I had zero interest in male stripping prior to Magic Mike. As a straight male, I had a lot of misperceptions about the industry. People would walk out of Magic Mike saying  ’I loved it but I wish there was more of the guys. I wish I knew more about them, where they live, who they go out with, what their lives are like.’ So I knew there was a lot left on the table.”

And part of what was left of the table was apparently the subtle art of the body roll.

The movie has a US debut set for June 27th. [Read more…]

Andrew Rannells To Replace Neil Patrick Harris As Hedwig On Broadway

June 13, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

andrew-rannells-hedwigAfter its success at the box office and last Sunday’s triple win at the Tonys, it’s not too surprising that an extension has been announced for Hedwig & The Angry Inch on Broadway – even if it was originally meant to be a limited engagement.

However those hoping to see Neil Patrick Harris in the role after August 20th will be disappointed – but not too much, as it’s been announced his replacement will be the very talented Andrew Rannells.

The New Normal & Girls star will be donning the fabled blonde wig on The Great White Way, but it won’t be the first time, as he actually played the transgender East German rocker in a production in Austin, Texas in 2011.

Rannells will take over on Aug 20th for what is currently scheduled to be an eight-week run. It’ll be interesting to see whether this becomes a regular thing, with the show getting extended again with more talented folks stepping into Hedwig’s shoes.

You can take a look at Rannells singing the musicals The Origin Of Love as a benefit concert below. [Read more…]

June 11, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Matt-CravenFilming has now begun on Roland Emmerich’s gay rights drama Stonewall, but according to Deadline he’s still adding to the cast with the news that Resurrection and Justified’s Matt Craven has signed on.

Jeremy Irvine, Caleb Landry Jones, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Ron Perlman and Joey King star in the movie, which centre around Irvine’s Danny, a young man whose political awakening happens against the backdrop of the 1969 Stonewall Riots, which have since become a touchstone for the gay rights struggle. Caleb Landry Jones will play an eccentric gay street hustler named Orphan Annie who at first resists then warms up to Danny and later participates in the Stonewall uprising.

Craven is gonna play a rather conflicted, as he’s Deputy Seymour Pine, the leader of the police force that raided the Stonewall Inn sparking the riots. He sympathises with the gay community but must carry out his duties, which in the 60s included arresting people just for being gay.

The film is currently shooting in Toronto, ahead of a release next year.

Mindy Cohn & Tamlyn Tomita Set For Gay Moms LGBT Short Operation Marriage, & It Wants Your Help

June 10, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

operation-marriage-picActress Mindy Cohn (The Facts of Life, Scooby Doo) and Tamlyn Tomita (The Joy Luck Club, Glee) are attached to play two gay moms in Quentin Lee’s (director of White Frog and Ethan Mao) upcoming non-profit educational short film, Operation Marriage, for children worldwide.

Based on Cynthia Chin-Lee’s children’s book, Operation Marriage is the story told from a child’s point-of-view about an eight-year-old girl and her little brother trying to get their two moms married before Proposition 8 goes into effect.

Operation Marriage represents the perspective of kids of LGBT parents rarely seen in literature or popular media. A film for children worldwide, it’s a universal story of family about LGBT rights, marriage equality, and having an alternative family.

While the film aspires to be a piece of art, it is also public service announcement and an historical document of a particular moment in time in world history. It is a testament to our past and continual fight for human rights.

The film is being produced through producer Alan Reade’s Text Engine Productions. US tax-deductible donations can be made through the artist crowdfunding website hatchfund.org: http://www.hatchfund.org/project/operation_marriage

Text Engine Productions plans to produce the film this summer, and it will be released online for free in the fall for kids worldwide and for anyone to download it as an educational tool to advocate for LGBT rights, marriage equality, or forming alternative families. [Read more…]
