Great New Into The Woods Character Posters & Trailer Arrive

November 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

into-the-woods-character-poster10-slideDisney is hoping we’ll all be in the mood for a musical just after Christmas when they release Into The Woods, but as they know most people don’t know the tunes, they’re busy selling it on the great cast, beautiful visuals and fairytale-based storyline.

To get us excited a set of 10 characters posters have now been released along with a new poster. You can take a look at them below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘“Into the Woods” is a modern twist on several of the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales, intertwining the plots of a few choice stories and exploring the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. This humorous and heartfelt musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella (Anna Kendrick), Little Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford), Jack and the Beanstalk (Daniel Huttlestone), and Rapunzel (MacKenzie Mauzy), all tied together by an original story involving a Baker and his Wife (James Corden and Emily Blunt), their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the Witch (Meryl Streep), who has put a curse on them.

‘Rob Marshall, the acclaimed filmmaker behind the Academy Award®-winning musical “Chicago” and Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” directs the film, which is based on the Tony®-winning original musical by James Lapine, who also penned the screenplay, and legendary composer Stephen Sondheim, who provides the music and lyrics. Produced by John DeLuca, Marshall, “Wicked” producer Marc Platt and Callum McDougall, “Into the Woods” will be released in UK cinemas January 9, 2015.’ [Read more…]

Final Annie Trailer – Quvenzhane Wallis is having a hard knock life

November 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

annie-international-posterThe new version of Annie isn’t too far away, with a Christmas release set for the film which takes the classic musical and updates it to the modern day. And with Will Smith and Jay-Z both involved with updating the score, it should also be a little funkier.

The plot also remains the same, with little orphan Annie (Quvenzhane Wallis) having a hard-luck life in the foul orphanage run by Miss Hannigan (Cameron Diaz). She’s then taken in by the filthy rich Benjamin Stacks (Jamie Foxx). In this version he’s running for office and initially just wants Annie so the press will see him being nice to an orphan, but he soon falls for the plucky youngster’s charms. But then Annie’s real parents are found, or are they?

Will Gluck is directing from his own screenplay, which was originally written by Aline Brosh McKenna and Emma Thompson. [Read more…]

Chappie Trailer – First look at Neill Blomkamp’s robot tale

November 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

chappie-posterAfter the success of District 9, Neill Blomkamp had a bit of a misstep with the ambitious but massively flawed Elysium. However it looks like he could be back on track with Chappie, which from its first trailer is looks like it could to be a real charmer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Every child comes into the world full of promise, and none more so than Chappie: he is gifted, special, a prodigy. Like any child, Chappie will come under the influence of his surroundings – some good, some bad – and he will rely on his heart and soul to find his way in the world and become his own man. But there’s one thing that makes Chappie different from anyone else: he is a robot. The first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself. His life, his story, will change the way the world looks at robots and humans forever.’ Dev Patel, Hugh Jackman, Sigourney Weaver and Sharlto Copley star.

The movie is in cinemas next spring. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Matthew McConaughey Developing Free State Of Jones With Gary Ross

November 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

matthew-mcconaughey-magic-mikeMatthew McConaughey may defend his previous life as king of lazy rom-coms, but most people would agree that the more picky McConaughey of recent years is a far better proposition. The actor is continuing his run of interesting projects by getting on board to star in Free State Of Jones, according to Deadline.

The film is based ‘based on the untold and extraordinary story of Newton Knight, the leader of one of the greatest rebellions in Civil War history… McConaughey is in talks to play the Mississippian, who defected from the Confederate Army, banded together with a group of like-minded soldiers, and set out to form their own State known as the Free State Of Jones.’

Knight is seen by some as a hero and by others as an outlaw, however it seems clear he really didn’t believe in the Confederacy’s attempts to retain slavery, as he eventually married a former slave himself, which was one of the first mixed race marriages in Mississippi after the Civil War.

The hope is to get backing for the film so that it can shoot at the beginning on 2015.

Al Pacino & Brian De Palma Are Reuniting For Retribution

November 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

al-pacinoNeither Al Pacino nor director Brian De Palma are the all-conquering film names they were when they teamed up for the classic remake Scarface in 1983, or when they also had success a decade later with Carlito’s Way. They’ll be hoping then that a reunion can do both of them a little good, as Screendaily reports that they’re reteaming for Retribution.

The movie is a remake of a 2003 Belgian thriller called The Memory Of A Killer, and focuses ‘on the story of a hitman and a cop who will go to any length to stop a Philadelphia child prostitution ring.’ However if this follows the story of the original, the thing that makes it a little different is that the hitman has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s (indeed the original title translates as The Alzheimer Case), which alters his worldview and make him reassess his past and his future.

It’s not clear when the movie will shoot, but Retribution will be looking buyers shortly at the American Film Market.

Channing Tatum Circling Tarantino’s Hateful Eight

November 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Channing-TatumTarantino may have had a major hissy fit after the script for Hateful Eight leaked and said he wasn’t going to make the film, but he’s since changed his mind and is now putting his cast together. The latest name to join the throng is Channing Tatum, who is circling a major role according to Deadline.

Samuel L. Jackson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Bruce Dern, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen and Kurt Russell are already set to star in the film, which is set in Wyoming shortly after the Civil War. It’s about a group of eight people who during a blizzard hole up in a store while they wait to be able to get out. However as the title suggests, things soon get out of control partly due to the fact these aren’t the nicest of people.

Tarantino plans to start shooting the movie in early 2015 (assuming no one else leaks anything and he gets pissed off again, of course). It should be in cinemas by the end of the year.

Matt Damon Is Going To Be Downsizing With Director Alexander Payne

November 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

matt-damonIn the seven year gap between Sideways and The Descendants, Alexander Payne worked on several projects, but despite the success of his earlier films he had difficulty getting a movie off the ground. One of those projects was Downsizing, which got trapped in development despite having a cast in place including the likes of Paul Giamatti, Reese Witherspoon and Sacha Baron Cohen.

Now though it’s back and it may have a better chance of getting made, as Deadline reports that Matt Damon is on board and 20th Century Box is backing it.

The slightly odd sounding film is about a man (Damon) who decides that his life would be much better if he shrunk himself (he must have never seen Honey I Shrunk The Kids, or he’d know shrink rays are a bad idea).

As with Sideways, which won them a Best Screenplay Oscar, Alexander Payne co-wrote the script with Jim Taylor. It isn’t known Downsizing will shoot, but it won’t be for a while as Damon is just about so start shooting The Martian for Ridley Scott.

Jake Gyllenhaal Looks Back On The Importance Of Brokeback Mountain

November 4, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

brokeback-mountainWith Nightcrawler hitting cinemas last week, Jake Gyllenhaal sat down with Huffpo and took the opportunity to look back at one of the most important films of his career – Brokeback Mountain.

He considers its place both in his own filmography and its more general legacy. The ‘gay cowboy’ film follows Gyllenhaal’s Jack Twist and Heath Ledger’s Ennis Del Mar, from their meeting while looking after sheep on the titular Brokeback Mountain, through their love affair over the next 30 years.

Gyllenhaal notes, “It was at the time, culturally, it gave me the idea that movies can be important. That they do have some sort of political value…it’s become something beyond what any of us could have imagined.”

He adds, ‘”It’s a beautiful story and it was very successful in many different ways and so that’s what brought a lot of the attention… It’s one of those films that’s no longer mine – it’s sort of everyone’s.”

You can take a look at what Jake had to say below. [Read more…]

Jamie Dornan Suggests We Won’t Be Seeing His Penis In 50 Shades Of Grey

November 4, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jamie-Dornan-Interview1-slideIf ever a movie was made where gratuitous sex and nudity almost seems called for (which I suppose would mean it wouldn’t be gratuitous) it’s 50 Shades Of Grey. After all, while many people insist they read all three books for the story, the copious amounts of explicitly detailed BDSM sex in the novels are what they’re best known for.

For the more prurient among us it seemed good news when Jamie Dornan was cast as Christian Grey, as his background in modelling has involved a fair bit of nudity. However it now seems any dreams we had of seeing Little Jamie in the movie will have to remain dreams.

Talking to The Guardian, Dornan says, “There were contracts in place that said that viewers wouldn’t be seeing my, um….”

When prompted with the Brits slang for penis, ‘todger’, Dornan finished, “Yeah, my todger.”

And to the disappointment of some, he adds, “You want to appeal to as wide an audience as possible without grossing them out. You don’t want to make something gratuitous and ugly and graphic.”

In some ways it seems an odd way to go with a film based on something that is infamous for being gratuitous and ugly and graphic, however it was almost inevitable. Even without a ‘no penis’ contract in place, it’s likely the studio would have tried to hide Dornan’s assets.

In order to be able to advertise the film and get it in mainstream cinemas, Universal needs it to be rated ‘R’ in the US, and while you can have nearly as much gross violence as you like at that certificate, the sight of a penis, especially in a sexual situation, immediately pushes a film towards the commercial suicide of an ‘NC-17’ certificate. While they could probably get away with some penis, it certainly makes it easier with the US ratings system to hide it.

It does leave us with the irony though that in the same interview Dornan describes himself as a feminist who wanted to ensure none of the sex came across as non-consensual or as violence against women. However he’s locked into a sexist ratings system where the overt sexualisation of women – whether involving violence or not – is far more acceptable and tolerated than that of men.

However if seeing Dornan’s penis is important to you, there are images out there from his modelling days if you want to go and find them.
