Ellen Page May Be John Belushi’s Wife Alongside Emile Hirsch In A New Biopic

March 24, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ellen-Page
A couple of months ago Emile Hirsch and Miles Teller signed on to star in a biopic of legendary comic John Belushi. Now it’s time for the movie to get a bit of female energy, as TheWrap reports that Ellen Page is in talks to play Judith Jacklin, John Belushi’s wife.

Steve Conrad (The Weather Man) wrote the screenplay and is directing the biopic, which follows John Belushi’s (Emile Hirsch) life until his tragic death at the age of 33 from a heroin overdose. The story is said to be an allegory that illuminates the highs and lows of the American dream.

Teller is set to be Dan Aykroyd, became one of Belushi’s main comedy partners, working with him on Saturday Night Live and making the likes of Blues Brother together.

Jacklin meanwhile was Belushi’s high school girlfriend, who later became his wife. Both Page and Teller will have firsthand experience to draw on as Aykroyd and Judith (who now goes by the surname Belushi-Pisano) are acting as producers.

Dwayne Johnson Gets Shirtless In New Hercules Photos

March 24, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

In early 2014, it’s Kellan Lutz who’s been Hercules, but come summer we’ve got another take on the legend, with Dwayne Johnson taking on the role and Brett Ratner directing. Now USA Today has released a couple of stills from the movie, which show The Rock in action mode.

Is it just us, or does the shirtless one above look like it could have fallen out of a gay porn vid. You just need another guy stood behind him.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Everyone knows the legend of Hercules and his twelve labors. Our story begins after the labors, and after the legend…

‘Haunted by a sin from his past, Hercules has become a mercenary. Along with five faithful companions, he travels ancient Greece selling his services for gold and using his legendary reputation to intimidate enemies. But when the benevolent ruler of Thrace and his daughter seek Hercules’ help to defeat a savage and terrifying warlord, Hercules finds that in order for good to triumph and justice to prevail… he must again become the hero he once was… he must embrace his own myth… he must be Hercules.’

Joseph Fiennes, Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell, Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell, Rebecca Ferguson, Aksel Hennie and John Hurt co-star. It’ll be in cinemas this July (and a trailer is promised soon).

David James Kelly Writing Wolverine 3, With Hugh Jackman Likely To Return

March 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

wolverine-review-slideJust a few days ago director James Mangold revealed that after 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse, they’re already working on another standalone Wolverine movie. Since then Fox has moved fast to fill in the blanks, announcing that it’ll be in cinemas March 3rd, 2017 and Deadline adds that the studio has hired screenwriter David James Kelly to write the script.

What wasn’t clear when Mangold first mentioned Wolverine 3 was whether Hugh Jackman would be returning for this new movie. The actor has suggested several times that he planned to step away from his mutant character (at least for a while) following this year’s X-Men: Days Of Future Past – which marks the seventh film he’s played the role in (and it’s not known if he’ll also be in Apocalypse).

However Deadline claims that Jackman will be back, although it’s not clear if this is just a strong possibility or whether a contract is actually in the works.

Jake McDorman In Talks For American Sniper

March 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jake-mcdormanJake McDorman is a face many will recognise from the likes of Greek, the US Shameless and Live Free Or Die Hard, often seeming like he was about to break big but not yet getting there. Now he’s in talks for a big role, as he may join Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper, starring alongside Bradley Cooper, Cory Hardrict and Sienna Miller are also attached.

The action movie is based on the autobiography of Navy SEAL Chris Kyle (Cooper), a Texas native who racked up the most confirmed sniper kills of anyone in US military history. Tragically though, he was killed by a fellow veteran at a shooting range last February (it’s not clear if that will be included in the movie).

If he signs on, McDorman will be Ryan ‘Biggles’ Job, who was the sniper’s colleague during his time in the military. Several real Navy SEALS are also expected to co-star in the film, including Kyle’s really life friend, Kevin ‘Dauber’ Lacz.

Clint Eastwood is directing from a script provided by Jason Hall. Filming will start next month in Morocco.

Andy Serkis Will Direct Warner’s Jungle Book

March 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

andy-serkisAndy Serkis may be best known for playing Gollum in Lord Of The Rings and Caesar in Dawn Of The Planet of The Apes, but all that time around special effects has made him a bit of an expert in motion capture. It’s that experience that’s helped get him to job directing Warner Bros. live-action/CG version of The Jungle Book, according to THR. It didn’t hurt either that he was second unit director on The Hobbit trilogy.

He replaces the recently departed Alejandro Gonzalez Inarittu, who dropped out of the project due to scheduling conflicts. Ron Howard was previously interested in directing, but also stepped away.

Based on Rudyard Kipling’s classic stories, the Junge Book is about Mowgli, an boy who’s been raised by wolves in the Indian jugle. He becomes friends with Baloo the bear and Bagheera the black panther, but no everyone is pleased to have his there, as the larger he grown the more man-eating tiger Shere Khan sees him as a threat.

There’s a bit of a race on as Warner Bros. isn’t the only Jungle Book in development. Disney is also working on a live-action version and currently seems to be loser to facing the cameras, with Jon Favreau directing and Idris Elba voicing Shere Khan.

David Fincher Will Only Helm Steve Jobs If Christian Bale Stars

March 20, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

christian-baleDavid Fincher is known for being a man who knows what he wants, and if he doesn’t have the right ingredients he’s more than happy to step away from a movie. That seems to be happening with the biopic, Steve Jobs, which he signed up to direct a few weeks ago.

TheWrap reports that Fincher wants Christian Bale to play the Apple co-founder Steve Jobs. He’s so determined that he needs the former Batman that he’s apparently told Sony Pictures chief Amy Pascal that he will only take on the movie if Bale stars.

So will the actor take the role? That’s completely uncertain, as he hasn’t even been officially approached about it yet, since he is currently taking time off after completing Ridley Scott’s Exodus.

While Fincher and Pascal reportedly had a difficult relationship during the making of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but Pascal is well aware of what a good filmmaker he is and so would like to keep him happy. However she can only do that with Bale’s agreement.

Aaron Sorkin is writing the script, which will tell the story of Steve Jobs’ life through the prism of thee keynote speeches – when he first launched the Mac computer, the NeXT, and the iPod. It’s likely to shoot either late this year of early next, with Sony already thinking about an Oscar run with a winter 20145 release.

Ryan Gosling May Star In & Direct A Busby Berkeley Biopic

March 20, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ryan Gosling In Crazy Stupid Love

Ryan Gosling

A few months ago Ryan Gosling was suggesting he was planning to take a break from acting. But he’s not stopped lining films up, as THR reports that he is in negotiations to star in and produce a biopic of legendary director and choreographer Busby Berkeley.

There’s also a chance it will be his second directorial outing, following the upcoming How To Catch A Monster.

The movie will be based on Jeffrey Spivak’s book, ‘Buzz: The Life and Art of Busby Berkeley’, which tells the story of how the filmmaker revolutionized the musical and changed the world of choreography. He pioneered many conventions still in use today, and became well-know for his ability to use both the camera and dancer to create complex and beautiful formations.

Assuming he sign on, Gosling will work alongside producer with Marc Platt, who has plenty of musical experience, having produced the stage musical Wicked and the upcoming film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods.

Will The LEGO Movie Helmers Take Over Ghostbusters 3?

March 20, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

phil-lord-chris-millerJust 24 hours after Ivan Reitman left Ghostbusters 3, Nikki Finke has tweeted that she thinks she knows his replacement, saying ‘Hot duo to direct #Ghostbusters3? My sources say Phil Lord & Chris Miller (‘Lego Movie’, ’21 Jump St’) in talks to replace Ivan Reitman.’

Lord and Miller are just coming off a major hit The Lego Movie, and also previously had success with their live-action debut, 21 Jump Street. They’d seem a good team to take on the movie, although at the moment it’s more rumour than reality, partly because some are sceptical of Finke’s sources, as she’s had few scoops since her acrimonious split from the site she founded, Deadline.com – which is coincidentally (or not) the site Reitman chose to talk to about leaving Ghostbusters.

The latest suggestion about Ghostbusters 3 is that the likes of Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson, will have extended cameos, but it will largely be a new generation, who will hopefully relaunch the franchise. It’s not known if the recent death of Harold Ramis may lure Bill Murray back into the fold.

The plan is to shoot early next yeat.

The Giant Lizard Is Back As New Godzilla Posters Roar Online

March 20, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Godzilla-new-Teaser-poster3
I’m half starting to think that even when Godzilla is released, there’ll be nothing that gives us a really, really good look at the giant lizard. All the marketing has been based around showing bits of its body and whenever the whole thing looms into view, it’s hidden in the in the swirling dust.

Two new posters have arrived and they don’t change tack, with one just showing off the tail and the other only showing us the beast in silhouette. They’re still pretty cool though.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘An epic rebirth to Toho’s iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, pits the world’s most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity’s scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.

‘Gareth Edwards directs “Godzilla,” which stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson (“Kick-Ass”), Oscar® nominee Ken Watanabe (“The Last Samurai,” “Inception”), Elizabeth Olsen (“Martha Marcy May Marlene”), Oscar® winner Juliette Binoche (“The English Patient,” “Cosmopolis”), and Sally Hawkins (“Blue Jasmine”), with Oscar® nominee David Strathairn (“Good Night, and Good Luck.,” “The Bourne Legacy”) and Bryan Cranston (“Argo,” TV’s “Breaking Bad”).’

The film’s due in cinemas in May.
