Twilight’s Mackenzie Foy Joins Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar

July 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Mackenzie-FoyMackenzie Foy is known to Twilight fans for playing Renesmee, the child of Bella and Edward, in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2. Now she’s got another role in a major film, as TheWrap reports she’s in final talks to join the cast of Interstellar for director Christopher Nolan.

As this is a Nolan movie, there’s no info on who she’ll play, but she joins a cast that includes Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Michael Caine, Bill Irwin and Casey Affleck.

The movie revolves around a journey into outer space that pushes humanity’s knowledge of science and technology. The plot is reportedly based on the scientific theories of Kip S. Thorne, who believes that wormholes actually exist and can be used for time travel.

Christopher Nolan is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with his brother, Jonathan Nolan. Shooting will start in a couple of months time, with a November 2014 release date already set.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Rumoured For Doctor Strange

July 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Joseph Gordon-Levitt

At the moment we’d take this with a pinch of salt, but it’s certainly likely to get the fanboys interested. A rumour has emerged that Marvel Studios is eyeing Joseph Gordon-Levitt as their top candidate to play Doctor Strange.

Latino Review first reported the rumour, but it should be remembered that at the moment Marvel hasn’t even officially announced a Doctor Strange movie is definitely going to be made, although they have set release dates for three movies in 2016 and 2017, one of which is believed to be Doctor Strange.

According to Latino Review, no official offer hasn’t been made to the actor, but it’s said Marvel executives are internally discussing the possibility of hiring the actor soon.

The 32-year-old Joseph Gordon-Levitt is just the right age for the part, since the Sorcerer Supreme in Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer’s script is crafted for someone in their early 30s. Doctor Strange is a former neurosurgeon, a practicing sorcerer, and serves as the Sorcerer Supreme, the primary protector of Earth against magical and mystical threats.

Although Marvel is known for revealing new actors at Comic-Con, it’s not believed JGL is aware of the Doctor Strange discussion surrounding him, so he won’t be coming out on the stage this weekend in San Diego.

Dustin Hoffman & Bobby Canavale Join Jon Favreau’s Chef

July 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Dustin-HoffmanTwitter is becoming an increasingly popular way for directors to announce additions to their casts, eschewing the traditional route of going of The Hollywood Reporter or Variety. Jon Favreau is following that trend by using Twitter’s Vine to release a video revealing that Dustin Hoffman and Bobby Cannavale have joined the cast of his upcoming indie comedy, Chef.

The tweet to go alongside it simply said, ‘New cast members. #Chef https://vine.co/v/hZEIHAVuwbD’, and you can take a look at the accompanying video below.

The movie follows a former chef (Favreau) who decides to set a food truck in Los Angeles. No details have been revealed as to exactly what Dustin Hoffman and Bobby Cannavale will be doing in the movie, but they join a cast that includes Jon Favreau, Sofí Vergara, John Leguizamo, Scarlett Johansson, and Robert Downey Jr. Shooting has already started in LA.

It’s currently due for release May 2014.

Kevin Costner Takes A Midnight Delivery For Guillermo Del Toro

July 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

kevin-costnerKevin Costner’s career revival continues with the news that he is in talks to star in Midnight Delivery for Universal Pictures, according to Variety. Guillermo del Toro is set to executive produce the project, and he also came up with the idea for the film.

The movie is about a desperate father who reluctantly becomes a drug mule in order to save the life of his son. Neil Cross (Mama) wrote the original screenplay, based on Del Toro’s story.

Costner was most recently seen as Jonathan Kent in Man of Steel, and next he’s set to be part of another major new franchise pic, Jack Ryan. He also recently wrapped shooting on Draft Day. It’s certainly a big change for a man who was barely averaging one movie a year through the 2000s, none of which could be described as a major hit.

Max Landis Casts Dustin Milligan, Luke Bracey & Emily Meade In Sexual Identity Comedy Me Him Her

Dustin Milligan

A few months ago it was revealed that Max Landis – son on John and writer of Chronicle – was set to make his directing debut with an indie comedy called Me Him Her. He’s now moving forward with the film, with TheWrap reporting that with Dustin Milligan, Luke Bracey and Emily Meade will take the lead roles.

The film is described as a comedy about sexual identity, suggesting there may be a little gay going on, ‘Exploring love, sex, friendship and sword combat [yes, really] in what Landis has described as “the weirdest, most surreal way possible,” the story ultimately emphasizes that conceptions of self should be flexible.’

Landis adds, “’Me Him Her’ is completely different than anything I’ve ever written. You usually find me writing what I like to think of as intelligent summer action and genre films. ‘Me Him Her’ is deeply personal, and at its most basic level, a generational story about relationships and identity.”

Milligan (who incidentally was one of Cory Monteith’s roommates) will next be seen in The Conjuring. Bracey meanwhile recently appeared in G.I. Joe: Retaliation and will soon be seen in American Dream and the Pierce Brosnan movie November Man. Meade recently complete shooting Are We Officially Dating?, opposite Zac Efron and Miles Teller.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘After Kick-Ass’ insane bravery inspires a new wave of self-made masked crusaders, led by the badass Colonel Stars and Stripes, our hero joins them on patrol. When these amateur superheroes are hunted down by Red Mist — reborn as The Mother F%&*^r — only the blade-wielding Hit Girl can prevent their annihilation. When we last saw junior assassin Hit Girl and young vigilante Kick-Ass, they were trying to live as normal teenagers Mindy and Dave.

‘Just as they start to make a real difference on the streets, the world’s first super villain, The Mother F%&*^r, assembles his own evil league and puts a plan in motion to make Kick-Ass and Hit Girl pay for what they did to his dad. Tom Cruise & Emily Blunt Go To War In A New All You Need Is Kill Image

July 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

all-you-need-is-kill-preview-pic2
All You Need Is Kill is definitely an intriguing movie, and while we won’t get to see it until June 2014, a new image has now been released, via EW, showing us Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt on the battlefield.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The story unfolds in a near future in which a hive-like alien race, called Mimics, have hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, shredding great cities to rubble and leaving millions of human casualties in their wake. No army in the world can match the speed, brutality or seeming prescience of the weaponized Mimic fighters or their telepathic commanders. But now the world’s armies have joined forces for a last stand offensive against the alien horde, with no second chances.

‘Lt. Col. Bill Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously demoted and then dropped—untrained and ill-equipped—into what amounts to little more than a suicide mission. Cage is killed within minutes, managing to take an Alpha down with him. But, impossibly, he awakens back at the beginning of the same hellish day, and is forced to fight and die again…and again. Direct physical contact with the alien has thrown him into a time loop—dooming him to live out the same brutal combat over and over.

‘But with each pass, Cage becomes tougher, smarter, and able to engage the Mimics with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt), who has lain waste to more Mimics than anyone on Earth. As Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated battle becomes an opportunity to find the key to annihilating the alien invaders and saving the Earth.’

Glee’s Cory Monteith Dies Aged 31

July 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Cory-MonteithThere’s been shock in Hollywood this weekend with the news that 31-year-old Cory Monteith, best known as Glee’s Finn Hudson, was found dead in a Vancouver hotel room. No cause of death has been released, although speculation has inevitably surrounded substance abuse. It’s known that Monteith has struggled with addiction since his teens, most recently booking himself into a rehab facility in April.

Vancouver Police Department Acting Chief Doug LePard said he would not discuss anything found in the actor’s room at the time of his death, although an autopsy is due to take place today.

Monteith got his start with guest star spots in a number of TV shows, including an arc on Kyle XY. He is best known for playing Finn Hudson on Glee. Other credits include Monte Carlo, Final Destination 3, and The Invisible.

Fox, which produces Glee, released a statement saying,”We are deeply saddened by this tragic news. Cory was an exceptional talent and an even more exceptional person. He was a true joy to work with and we will all miss him tremendously. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones.”

Many of his co-stars also reacted to his death, with Mark Salling simply tweeting, ‘No’, while Iqbal Theba said, ‘OMG!! My Cory…’, while Dot Marie Jones added, ‘I HAVE NO WORDS! MY HEART IS BROKEN CORY WAS NOT ONLY A HELL OF A FRIEND HE WAS ONE AMAZING MEN THAT I WILL HOLD CLOSE TO MY HEART FOREVER… I AM BLESSED TO HAVE WORKED WITH HIM AND LOVE HIM SO MUCH! MY HEART IS WITH HID FAMILY AND OUR WHOLE GLEE FAMILY! I LOVE YOU ALL!’

Despicable Me 2 Beats Grown Up 2 & Pacific Rim At The US Box Office

July 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Despicable-Me-2-posterDespite two new big releases this week, Despicable Me managed to hold onto the top spot at the US box office for a second week, taking another $44 million for an excellent total of $229 million so far.

However what analysts were really watching was whether Pacific Rim could beat Grown Ups 2. In the end it couldn’t, as Grown Ups 2 took $42.5 million, despite being reviled by the critics. That’s slightly ahead of the first Grown Ups film, and the second biggest start even for Adam Sandler (after The Longest Yard), which is good news for him after a series of disappointments.

Pacific Rim placed third with $38.3 million, which may be the highest opening ever for director Guillermo Del Toro, but certainly isn’t great for a movie that cost $200 million to produce. Thankfully though, it’s slightly more than some had expected after soft tracking for the robots vs. monsters movie. While it may eventually reach $100 million in the US, its only real hope of turning a profit is with a stellar international performance.

Take a look below for the US box office top 10 for the weekend of July 12th-14th.

Rank Title Weekend Gross (millions) Total Gross to date (millions)
1 Despicable Me 2 $44.7 $229.2
2 Grown Ups 2 $42.5 $42.5
3 Pacific Rim $38.3 $38.3
4 The Heat $14.0 $112.3
5 The Lone Ranger $11.1 $71.1
6 Monsters University $10.6 $237.7
7 World War Z $9.4 $177.0
8 White House Down $6.1 $62.9
9 Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain $5.0 $26.3
10 Man Of Steel $4.8 $280.9
