Jennifer Lawrence Gets Blue On The X-Men: Days Of Future Past Set

May 21, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Bryan Singer has been keeping us all up to date with the progress of X-Men: Days Of Future Past by tweeting a series of images from the set. Now we’ve got a couple more. Above you can see the first image of Jennifer Lawrence in full-on blue Mystique make-up (Singer says she’s ‘vengeful’, so don’t expect her to be nice in this film), while below, Peter Dinklage discusses his role with Singer.

We still don’t know who Dinklage will play, although some are saying the moustache he’s sporting suggest he’ll play Bolivar Trask, creator of the Sentinels that cause all manner of trouble for the Patrick Stewart era mutants, and result in a bit of time-travelling to get James McAvoy and crew to prevent something happening that will cause the Sentinels to be needed in the first place.

The movie is out summer 2014.

Anchorman: The Legend Continues Teaser – Ron Burgundy and co. are really back

May 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For years an Anchorman sequel was rumoured and talked about, but most people gave up hoping of ever seeing it. However now it’s in production and a teaser has been released to prove it really is coming. There’s no footage from the actual movie, but it does see Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell), Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd), Champ Kind (David Koechner), and Brick Tamland (Steve Carell) lining up to reintroduce themselves.

The film itself look at how the advent of the 24-hour news cycle in the early 80s affect the old-fashioned Burgundy.

It’s shooting now for a Christmas release.

The Young and Prodigious Spivet Trailer – Take a look at Amelie helmer Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s latest

May 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jean-Pierre Jeunet certainly likes to take his time getting him movies right, as since Delicatessen in 1991 he’s averaged one movies every four years, but that has included delights such as The City Of Lost Children, Ameli and Micmacs.

Now he’s returning with The Young and Prodigious Spivet, which is both his first 3D film and his first movie set in the US. Based on the book The Selected Works of T.S. Spivet by Reif Larsen, the film is about ‘A 12-year-old cartography enthusiast in an eccentric family, who travels across country hidden on board a freight train after being invited to the Smithsonian Institute.’

The movie stars Helena Bonham Carter, Kathy Bates, Judy Davis, Callum Keith Rennie. No release date it currently set, but it should be in cinemas later this year.

Chris Evans in Cellular

Last July it was revealed that Fright Night’s Tom Holland was planning to adapt the Stephen King novella The Ten O’Clock People, taken from the collection Nightmares And Dreamscapes. At the time, it appeared Justin Long was going to star, with shooting due to take place last September.

That didn’t happen and now it seems Long is off the project, and according to Deadline, Chris Evans may sign up instead and finally get the movie off the ground.

The movie will bring the 1993 story up to date, with Evans in talks to play Brandon Pearson, who attempts to quit smoking, but uncovers unknown and terrifying aspects of reality that you can only see if you’re trying to kick the habit. He realises that many of those in positions of power aren’t really human, and are instead inhuman monsters.

The hope is to shoot in Atlanta this autumn.

Bingbing Li On For Transformers 4

May 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

bingbing-liHollywood is very excited about China at the moment, due to the fact it’s fast become one of the biggest markets for cinema in the world. As a result there’s been a rush to include Chinese content in films, such as Iron Man 3, which even got a special cut for the country with extra Chinese scenes.

Transformers 4 is also keen to get in on the action and has promised to include a large number of Chinese actors, including one who’s being found via a reality TV contest. However now the first proper actor from China has been cast, Binbing Li.

There’s no news on who she will play, or indeed how China fits into the plot of the movie. The country is believed to play a fairly large part in film and scenes will be shot there. Bingbing Li will also be seen next year as Blink in Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, so she’s going to have quite a blockbuster 2014.

The non-Chinese cast for Transformers 4 film includes Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor, Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer, Sophia Myles.

Antonio Banderas Up For Chilean Miners Drama, The 33

May 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

antonio-banderasIt’s surprising it’s taken this long for anyone to come up with a movie about the Chilean miners who were trapped underground in 2010, but one is finally moving forward, with Variety reporting that Antonio Banderas is set to star in Patricia Riggen’s upcoming movie about the calamity.

The miners spent 69 days trapped underground after a cave-in, while workers on the surface worked around-the-clock the rescue them. Antonio Banderas will be portraying Mario Sepulveda, the charismatic miner also known as Super Mario. Martin Sheen and Rodrigo Santoro are also attached to star.

Patricia Riggen is directing from a script by Mikko Alanne and Jose Rivera.

Spike Lee Takes On Gold

May 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

spike-leeA couple of years ago, Michael Mann was planning to direct a movie called Gold, but he left the project behind quite a while ago. Now Spike Lee is taking it on, according to TheWrap, with Paul Haggis (Crash) on board as a producer.

The film is about a real-life story from 1993, following ‘following a rough-around-the-edges prospector who stumbles onto one of the largest gold mines in the world in the Indonesian jungle.’ However this turned into a scandal after the Bre-X Mineral Corporation made false claims about the gold.

There’s no news on when the movie might shoot.

Star Trek Into Darkness Warp Speeds To The Top Of The US Box Office

May 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

star-trek-into-darkness-imax-posterWhen the summer comes around, all the big action movies head for cinemas, causing pretty much every other movie to run for cover (largely because there aren’t many cinema screens left). As a result, Star Trek Into Darkness was the only new entrant into the US box office top 10, taking $84 million since its opening last Thursday.

That’s roughly in line with what JJ Abrams first Star Trek movie took when it opened in 2009. While it’s a fairly big haul, many are still seeing it as a disappointment, as many had expected to open in the $100 million range. However it’s doing better overseas, so is still likely to end up grossing a fair amount more that the earlier movie overall.

It’s also going to face a challenge keeping its US gross up in the coming weeks, with competition such as Hangover III and Face & Furious 6 heading into cinemas in the next few days.

Take a look below for the US box office top 10 for the weekend of May 17th-19th.

Rank Title Weekend Gross (millions) Total Gross to date (millions)
1 Star Trek Into Darkness $70.5 $84.0
2 Iron Man 3 $35.1 $337.0
3 The Great Gatsby $23.4 $90.1
4 Pain And Gain $3.1 $46.5
5 The Croods $2.7 $176.7
6 42 $2.7 $88.7
7 Oblivion $2.2 $85.5
8 Mud $2.1 $11.5
9 Tyler Perry Presents Peeples $2.1 $7.8
10 The Big Wedding $1.1 $20.1

New Disney’s Planes Trailer Is Flying High & Looking Very Pretty

May 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Disney’s Planes started out life years ago as a direct-to-DVD project, based on the world of Pixar’s Cars but made by the House Of Mouse’s DisneyToon Studios subsidiary. However they eventually decided to turn it into a theatrical feature, and this new trailer gives a hint as to why.

The decision to turn it from DVD to cinema came around the same time 3D took off in cinema, and this promo certainly shows off the three-dimensional potential of the movie, as well as looking incredibly pretty indeed.

Disney’s Planes is described as an action-packed 3D animated comedy adventure about Dusty, a big hearted crop duster and his dream of competing as a high-flying air racer—and his decidedly unfortunate fear of heights. It’ll hit cinemas this August.
