Bryan Singer Reveals Professor X’s Past & Future Wheelchairs

February 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

We all know that Patrick Stewart’s Professor X uses a wheechair, and in Days Of Future Past, James McAvoy’s younger version will need one too. Now Bryan Singer has given us a look at both the past and present versions of the chair that both actors will use in the upcoming, time-travelling mutant movie.

Looking at them, they’re not really that different, suggesting that when the Professor finds a design he likes, he sticks with it.

Singer tweeted the pic, along with the message, ‘Hello old friends #XMen #DaysofFuturePast’.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past hits cinemas summer 2014.

Mickey Mouse & Roger Rabbit Teaming Up For The Stooge?

February 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

stooge-mickey-roger-development-poster
Although I don’t think we should get our hopes up too much at the moment, there could be something interesting going on over at Disney, with Gary K Wolf – screenwriter of Roger Rabbit – suggesting that a movie that teams Roger with Mickey Mouse is in the works.

Wolf revealed the news on his site, pretending to be a ‘source’ known as ‘Walter Windchill,’ saying that Disney is considering making a 3D animated remake of the 1952 comedy classic The Stooge. Although he doesn’t specifically say it will be a mix of animation and live action, it’s more than possible.

Here’s what Wolf had to say: ‘The movie is called The Stooge. It will be based on the classic Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis movie of the same name. The story has the emotional empathy and sensibilities of Wall-E and Toy Story. It will be a (G) Rated Pixar type animated musical buddy comedy. Mickey takes on the Dean Martin role, Roger, who is already regarded as a comic genius in France, takes the Jerry Lewis part.

‘The film incorporates five specific locations from the Disneyland park. It also introduces the Toon Train, an exciting and interesting way to travel through Toontown.

‘The film features real-life people. Walt Disney costars. Orson Welles makes an appearance.

‘The packaged Development Proposal is currently being evaluated by Disney and Pixar. Meetings are happening! Directors and writers are being evaluated.’

The original Stooge saw Dean Martin as a Broadway performer who finds success with a new vaudville act, although it is mainly because of the “stooge” (Jerry Lewis) he hires, who captures most of the spotlight.

As it’s just a development proposal, it’s a very long way from becoming a movie, but it sounds like a good idea. Both Mickey and Roger are in danger of slipping down the ranks of pop culture relevance, so bringing them back to the big screen could be a smart move on Disney’s part. However at the moment we’ll have to wait and see what happens.

As you can see above, Wolf also released a development poster.

Guy Pearce Gets His Own Iron Man 3 Poster

February 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

iron-man-3-guy-pearce-poster
After Iron Man 3 character posters for Tony Stark and Don Cheadle’s James Rhodes, Marvel has released one for franchise first-timer Guy Pearce, who plays Aldrich Killian in the upcoming movie.

Killian works alongside Maya Hansen (Rebecca Hall) in harnessing the power of nanotechnology, which Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) tries to use to defeat the nefarious Mandarin (Ben Kingsley). The fact he’s got a character poster suggests he’ll be a major park of the movie.

Here’s what the Official Marvel Database has to say about Killian: ‘Dr. Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce) is a brilliant scientist working for the FuturePharm Corporation in Austin, Texas alongside Dr. Maya Hansen (Rebecca Hall). Together they developed Extremis, an attempt to create a new super soldier. The Extremis is a techno organic virus that completely rewrites the body’s genetic code. It replaces entire organs making them more efficient. The virus also gives the body a sort of healing factor. The original Extremis grants super human strength, speed, endurance, reflexes and the ability to project electricity and breathe fire.’

However in the comics he turns out to be a rather slippery character.

Iron May 3 hits cinemas May 3rd, 2013.

About Last Night – Red Band Trailer

February 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

David Mamet’s play Sexual Perversity In Chicago, which got a loose adaptation as About Last Night – starring Rob Lowe and Demi Moore – in 1986. Now it’s coming back with a largely African-American do-over, although it’s been suggested that this About Last Night will be closer to Mamet’s original.

Leslye Headland’s script follows two couples, one of whom seem perfectly suited for one another, but things go horribly wrong when they move in together. The other two are the squabbling best friends of the other couple who form their own bond. Michael Ealy, Joy Bryant, Kevin Hart, Regina Hall and Adam Rodriguez star.

We’re getting this trailer very early, as apparently it’s not hitting US cinemas for a full year (and no UK date is set yet).

New Pacific Rim Concept Art Images Show Us A Huge Skull & A Jaeger

February 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Warner & Legendary are certainly hoping Pacific Rim will be the big ticket this summer and have started the hype early so that audiences will be all ready for the July release. Now Total Film has debuted two new concept art images from the movie.

The one above shows us a Russian Jaeger (the name for the film’s giant robots), while the one below has a strange skull Temple, smack dab in the middle of an urban environment. Presumably it’s the remains of one of the huge creatures that are spewing out of a portal deep under the ocean.

It’s these creatures that cause humankind to respond with the huge robots, which are controlled by humans in the head. Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, and Rinko Kikuchi star, with Guillermo Del Toro directing.

Jason Momoa On For Drax The Destroyer In Guardians Of The Galaxy?

February 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jason-momoaA couple of weeks ago Parks And Recreation star Chris Pratt signed up to play the lead role of Peter Quill in Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy. Now we may have news of who’s going to play another of the major roles, as Latino Review reports Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones, Conan the Barbarian) is in talks to play Drax the Destroyer.

With pre-production already underway in London, Jason Momoa reportedly flew to the UK last Wednesday to screen test for the role, with Marvel offering him the part shortly thereafter. The actor beat out others such as Isaiah Mustafa, Dave Bautista, and Brian Patrick for the part.

Drax the Destroyer was born as the human Arthur Douglas, however his family was attacked and murdered by the villainous Thanos. Arthur’s spirit was then placed into a powerful new body by Kronos, which resulted in Drax the Destroyer’s creation. His powers include incredible strength and the ability to emit energy blasts from his hands.

James Gunn is directing the film from his own screenplay.

A Good Day To Die Hard Tops The US Box Office

February 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

good-day-die-hard-poster1Despite some truly atrocious reviews, audiences’ love of John McLane won out over the weekend, with the movie topping the US box office with $25 million from Friday to Sunday and $33 million since it was released last Thursday.

Although not a great start, it’s not too far behind Die Hard 4’s $38 million four-day total. However, it’s not likely to get great word of mouth, so it may find it difficult to sustain its box office power over the coming weeks.

As it’s Presidents Day weekend, Die Hard 5 was just one of a slew of titles hitting cinemas. Safe Haven placed third with a decent $21 million (and $30 million since its Thursday opening), which is about on par with The Lucky One, but well behind Dear John’s first weekend.

While indie animation doesn’t usually do that well, Escape From Planet Earth took a pretty good $16 million, no doubt helped by the holiday weekend and the fact that for the last couple of months US cinemas have been full of R-rated entertainment.

While Warner Bros might have hoped Beautiful Creatures would be the new Twilight, it certainly won’t be, as the film placed sixth on the chart and took just $7 million over the weekend. It’s safe to say we’re unlikely to get the sequels Warner were hoping to make.

Take a look below for the US box office top 10 for the weekend of February 15th-17th.

Rank Title Weekend Gross (millions) Total Gross to date (millions)
1 A Good Day To Die Hard $25.0 $33.2
2 Identity Thief $23.4 $70.7
3 Safe Haven $21.4 $30.2
4 Escape From Planet Earth $16.0 $16.0
5 Warm Bodies $9.0 $50.2
6 Beautiful Creatures $7.4 $10.0
7 Side Effects $6.3 $19.1
8 Silver Linings Playbook $6.0 $98.4
9 Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters $3.4 $49.6
10 Zero Dark Thirty $3.1 $88.0

Sin City 2 Reveals Josh Brolin As Dwight In New Pics

February 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While many of the Sin City actors are returning for the sequel, one who isn’t is Clive Owen. However with Dwight an important part of the movie, director Robert Rodriguez has drafted in Josh Brolin to play the character.

Now we’ve got our first look at the new Dwight, with Rodriguez tweeting images of Brolin in front of a green-screen, and then in moody black and white as he’ll look in the finished neo-noir movie.

For the image above he tweeted ‘Here’s bad ass Josh Brolin driving a Rodriguez-mobile. (A green box with a steering wheel bolted on)’

And the one below ‘And here’s a quick photo touch up I do to set a tone for the actors. (Probably won’t be raining in final movie) ‘

The film is due out this autumn, with Jamie Chung, Jessica Alba, Alexa Vega, Mickey Rourke, Rosario Dawson, Jaime King, Michael Madsen, Dennis Haysbert starring.

Sam Mendes Likely To Sign On To Direct Bond 24

February 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Sam-MendesWhile in the old days, it wasn’t uncommon for a director to make several Bond movies, more recently each film has had a different helmer – even Martin Campbell had an 11 year gap between Goldeneye and Casino Royale. However with Skyfall grossing over $1 billion, it’s little surprise MGM wants to get Sam Mendes to return.

It seems they may get their wish, as the Daily Mail says there’s a ‘75%’ chance Mendes will commit to Bond 24 in the near future.

Back in October John Logan agreed to write the screenplay, agreeing to come up with two treatments that outline the plot of Bond 24. It’s not believed work on the actual script hasn’t begun yet, as MGM and co. still have to decide which of the treatments to go with. and soon thereafter, reports started swirling that the next 007 movie would actually be a two-part project.

Mendes is likely to wait until he sees a completed script before he signs on the dotted line. Daniel Craig will return as James Bond, with Ralph Fiennes (M), Naomie Harris (Eve Moneypenny), and Ben Whishaw (Q) slated to reprise their Skyfall roles as well. It’s believed the film will hit cinemas in 2014.

Harrison Ford Reportedly Back For Star War: Episode VII

February 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Han-SoloWith Star Wars Episodes VII-IX reportedly following the further adventures of the likes of Han Solo and Luke Skywalker, it’s little surprise Disney has been talking to the original actors to try and get them on board as quickly as possible. However while Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher quickly suggested a willingness, less certain has been Harrison Ford.

However, if Latino Review is to be believed, Ford has now signed on in principle to return as Han Solo. Neither Disney nor Lucasfilm has confirmed this, and to be honest I wouldn’t expect anything official anytime soon (partly because Ford is likely to have script approval and could back out at any time).

In the Star Wars expanded universe novels, Solo married Princess Leia and had three children with her, twins Jaina and Jacen and son Anakin. Anakin sadly dies young, but the twins grow up to be Jedi. It’s not known if the new film will follow any of this plot or if they’re going for something completely new (the suggestion has been that it will be original).

It’s also been rumoured that a spin-off movie based around Han Solo is also in the works, although this would focus on a younger version of the character than we’ve seen before.
