Greg Mottola Developing The Marriage Plot

May 17, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Greg Mottola made his name with comedies like Superbad and Paul, but he’s planning to go in a slightly different direction with a more literary new project, as he’s in early talks to adapt Jeffrey Eugenides’ novel The Marriage Plot for Sony, with Scott Rudin producing.

The film follows a coming-of-age love triangle in the early 1980s. At the centre is a bookish English major caught up between the affections of two men. As the romance of her favourite 19th century love stories begins to seep into her own life, the trio move from college to the real world.

It would be the second adaptation of a Eugenides novel, after Sofia Copolla’s The Firgin Suicides in 1999. (Source: Variety)

Morgan Freeman Going To Last Vegas

May 17, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Every so often Hollywood decides it would be fun to get a lot of old geezers together for a film, and the latest movie doing that is Last Vegas. It already Michael Douglas and Robert De Niro onboard, and now Deadline reports that Morgan Freeman is the latest to enter negotiations for the film.

Directed by Jon Turteltaub (National Treasure) from a screenplay by Dan Fogelman (Crazy Stupid Love), Last Vegas is a comedy about four old friends who decide to throw a Las Vegas bachelor party for the only one of them who has remained single. De Niro will play the party-averse Paddy Connelly, who reluctantly agrees to fly to Vegas at the request of his friends. Douglas will play Billy Gerson, a lifelong bachelor, who has finally decided to take the plunge into marriage.

There’s no news on exactly what character Freeman will play, but production is set to start soon on location in Las Vegas.

Iron Man 3 Gets James Badge Dale

May 17, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Shame and The Grey star James Badge Dale has joined the cast of Iron Man 3, which starts shooting soon. Dale is set take on a villainous role, playing a character who is likely U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Eric Savin, aka Coldblood, according to Deadline.

In the comic books, Colonel Savin is in charge of Project: Ultra-Tech. He steps on a landmine that blows his body to pieces. After being dead for 2.3 minutes, he is brought back to life as a cyborg and becomes an urban soldier who freelances as a mercenary. Though on the side of good in the comics, Savin will apparently be going villainous in Iron Man 3.

Rock Of Ages – ‘Any Way You Want It’ Mary J. Blige Music Video

May 16, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Rock Of Ages hits cinemas on June 15th, which sees the likes of Tom Cruise, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Russell Brand and Alex Baldwin belting out 80s hair metal hits as part of a musical about Drew and Sherrie (Julianne Hough and Diego Boneta), two young people chasing their dreams in the big city. When they meet, it’s love at first sight, though their romance will face a series of challenges. Now a music video featuring Mary J. Blige taking on Journey’s classic ‘Any Way You Want It’, so take a look – it certainly suggest the film, from gay director Adam Shankman, is gonna be pretty camp.

Anchorman 2 Teaser Poster Arrives – And Director Adam McKay talks up the film

May 16, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Yesterday we posted the first image from Anchorman, which Ron Burgundy himself had released on Twitter. Today the first teaser poster arrive, promising us that ‘The Legend Continues’ in 2013. The first teaser trailer has also been released alongside The Dictator and will hopefully be online soon.

Director Adam McKay is quoted by Total Film talking up the movie and chatting about the teaser trailer, which was filmed before production starts properly on the film.”Paramount came to us with the idea of the teaser,” explains McKay, “and since we’re writing the script it was a good chance to see the characters and hang out with the actors to inspire writing. All of the actors slipped right into character and they all looked amazing. Paul [Rudd] has a beard and we’re thinking of keeping it. Kind of an Eddie Rabbit meets Serpico look.”

As for what exactly we can expect from the second film, “Nothing’s set,” he says. “Right now I can say for sure there is no Ghost Rider cameo or a scene where Ron fights a wolverine on a nose-diving helicopter. We’re either going to shoot the movie in 3D or 1/2 D.”

Hit And Run Trailer – Dax Shepard & Kristen Bell go on a road trip

May 16, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Hit and Run is the story of Charlie Bronson (Dax Shepard), a former getaway driver who busts out of the Witness Protection Program to drive his girlfriend (Kristen Bell) to Los Angeles so she can land her dream job. Their road trip grows awkwardly complicated, when they are chased by the feds (led by Tom Arnold), and increasingly dangerous, when Charlie’s former gang of criminals (led by Bradley Cooper) enter the fray. Although Shepard has a variable track record in lead roles (although his & Bell’s support for marriage equality is great!), it’s a good cast and the trailer does look fun.

Chris Pine Taking Part In Mantivities (Which He Also Co-Wrote)

May 16, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Chris Pine wants to add writer to his resume, as he’s co-written a script called Mantivities as part of a team including his friends Will Greenberg, Drew Howerton, Robert Baker, Ian Gotler and Tony Liebtrau. That’s a hell of a lot of writers for one script, but hopefully they all brought the funnies.

According to Deadline, Pine will also star in the movie, which is about a group of friends in their early 30s, all of whom are in various stages of permanent adolescence. They get together with the aim of helping one of them grow up. That will presumably lead to much hi-jinks and home truth realisations for all involved.

“I couldn’t be happier to begin the adventure of making Mantivities knowing how much fun we all had writing it,” Pine said. “Somehow I get to laugh with my friends and call it work.” Let’s hope it’s as fun to watch as it was for them to write (although going on the history of these sorts of vanity projects, don’t bet on it). There’s no news on when the movie might shoot.

Alexander Payne Seeks Bruce Dern & Will Forte For Nebraska

May 16, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It took Alexander Payne seven years to get a follow-up to Sideways made, but he’s hoping that it’ll be a lot quicker to get his low budget movie Nebraska made. Deadline reports that he’s already thinking about casting it, and has zeroed on on the actors he wants for the lead role, Bruce Dern and Will Forte.

While neither actor has been approached yet, the chance to work with Payne will be tough to pass up, so we’d expect them to sign on. If they do, Dern will play a struggling alcoholic who believes he has won a sweepstakes lottery, so he hops in the car with his underachiever of a son (Forte) to claim his prize.

While SNL star Forte is only really known for full-on comedy, he’s struck me as a versatile talent. Payne obviously agrees, and believes he can do justice to his brand of drier humour. The director hopes to shoot the black and white road trip film before the end of the year.

Isabelle Fuhrman Takes The Lead In Suspiria Remake

May 16, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

She may only be 15, but Isabelle Fuhrman already has some horror experience with Orphan. Most recently she’s been seen as Clove in The Hunger Games, but now she’ll be going back to the creepy as Variety reports that she’s landed the lead role in David Gordon Green’s planned Suspiria remake.

The movie has been in the works for years, based on Dario Argento’s classic 1977 Italian chiller, which is about a girl called Suzie who travels to Europe to attend a renowned school, only to find out that the place is the front for a powerful, vindictive coven of witches.

David Gordon Green does seem a slighty odd choice for the movie, as he made his name with the likes of Pineapple Express and The Sitter. This is something rather different, but hopefully he’ll prove he can give us the creeps when cameras start rolling this September.

Amy Adams Heads To Dark Places

May 16, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Amy Adams has proven her mettle in everything from drama to comedy, with Hollywood falling over itself to offer her roles as one of the most versatile young actresses around. Now Deadline reports that she’s in talks to star in an adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s best-selling novel Dark Places, which Gilles Paquet-Brenner will direct.

Assuming that Adams signs on, she’ll play Libby Day, a woman plagued by the violence she witnessed as a child. 25 years after testifying that her brother slaughtered their mother and sisters, her account is called into question by a bizarre batch of hobbyists called The Kill Club, who independently investigate curious crimes for their own macabre amusement. Revisiting the figures and places of her perilous past, Libby discovers the dark truth behind the night her mother died.

It could make for an interesting film, and the sort of thing Adams could do well.
