Henry Selick Directing An Adaptation Of Neil Gaiman’s Graveyard Book

April 29, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It seems stop-motion master Henry Selick (Coraline, Nightmare Before Christmas) has a new movie, as Disney has secured the rights to Neil Gaiman’s The Graveyard Book for Selick to direct, according to Deadline.

We just reported that Steve Kloves was writing and directing a live-action version of The Jungle Book for Warner Bros, and The Graveyard book gives a spooky take on the same story. However rather than being about a boy raised by wolves, this take follows a young lad who is raised by ghosts in a graveyard after his family is murdered.

A while ago, Neil Jordan was to direct a live action version of the Newberry Award-winning novel, but now Disney and Selick have taken over the rights, with the film presumably planned as a stop-motion flick.

It may be a while until the director gets around to The Graveyard Book, as he won’t start making it until he finishes work on a top-secret movie with Pixar, which he’s currently putting together.

David Koepp Writing Snow White and the Huntsman Sequel

April 29, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Universal must have confidence that its action fairytale flick, Snow White And The Huntsman, will be a success, as while the movie isn’t released until June 1st, Deadline reports that the studio is already in talks with screenwriter David Koepp (Jurassic Park) to write a sequel to the revisionist tale. The word is that Universal wants to fast-track the sequel, and is trying to secure director Rupert Sanders to make it his next project.

In Snow White And The Huntsman, Kristen Stewart stars as Snow, who teams up with the Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) who was originally sent to kill her, so they can take down the Evil Queen (Charlize Theron) stepmother. While the film retains many elements of the original fairytale, the action and scale has been amped up significantly. The three primary actors are believed to have deals in place already to return for a follow-up.

It isn’t known when the sequel might shoot, but presuming the first film is a success, Universal wants to the sequel as soon as possible.

Harry Potter Screenwriter Steve Kloves Takes On The Jungle Book

April 29, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Now that Harry Potter is over, Warner is keen to stay in business with the team that brought the franchise to life, which includes Steve Kloves, who wrote seven of the eight screenplays for the magical movies. Now Deadline reports that the studio is backing Kloves to write and direct a live action adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book.

Kipling’s 1894 book has been the subject of numerous adaptations, most famously Disney’s animated 1967 version, along with a 1994 live-action rendition, which starred Jason Scott Lee. The novel follows the adventures of Mowgli, who is brought up by wolves and has various interactions with jungle animals, both good and bad.

As well as Harry Potter, Kloves also had a hand in writing The Amazing Spider-Man, as well as Warner’s now-delayed Akira. It won’t be his first directorial outing, as Kloves has previously made The Fabulous Baker Boys and Flesh and Bone, but hasn’t helmed a movie since 1993.

Kristen Stewart Decides To Move to Cali

April 29, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While there’s no evidence snuff films actually exist, the idea of them is too intriguing for Hollywood to ignore, and so movies about them pop up at fairly regular intervals. Now Kristen Stewart has signed on to star in one called Cali, according to Variety.

The actress will play Mya, who along with her boyfriend Chris, sells a fake snuff film of her ‘death’ before leaving town with loads of cash. Years later, Mya is forced to return to the San Fernando Valley to save the younger sister she left behind. When the couple comes back to town, they must deal with volatile former business partners, murderous porn stars, and a stone-cold killer in a cowboy hat.

Michael Diliberti (30 Minutes or Less) wrote the screenplay, while Kristen Stewart will make her producing debut on the project.

Sam Raimi Producing Poltergeist Remake

April 29, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While reports on Friday suggested Sam Raimi was going to direct MGM Studio’s remake of Poltergeist, it’s now been revealed via THR that while the Spider-man filmmaker is involved, it’s as a producer. He will now help the studio look for a new director.

Juliet Snowden and Stiles White were previously attached to write the screenplay. It isn’t known if David Lindsay-Abaire will work from their draft, or completely start over. Lindsay-Abaire also wrote the screenplay for Sam Raimi’s upcoming Oz: The Great and Powerful.

It’s up to Papa, Clumsy, Grouchy, and Vanity to return to our world, reunite with their human friends Patrick and Grace Winslow, and rescue her! Josh Gad Joins Steve Jobs Biopic As Steve Wozniak

April 27, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There were a few raised eyebrows when Ashton Kutcher was cast as Steve Job in a new independent biopic – until pictures of the two of them at the same age were compared, and it suddenly made a lot more sense. However there will probably be fewer people who’ll wonder if Book of Mormon and Love & Other Drugs star Josh Gad will be a good fit for Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.

Jobs and ‘Woz’ first became friends as Hewlett Packard in 1970. While Wozniak wasn’t sure about Jobs’ idea of selling computers as fully assembled, off-the-shelf bits of kit, he eventually threw his lot in and the two set up Apple in 1976. That was the beginning of a 12-year business relationship, where it’s said the duo never became close friends, but did develop a bond that remained until the end of Jobs’ life.

Joshua Michael Stern is directing Jobs, which will follow Steve from his early, hippie days, through the founding of the enormous tech giant. Shooting will begin next month. (Source: Variety)

Hick Trailer – Chloe Moretz goes on a wild ride

April 27, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Hick is certainly not your usual teenage road trip flick. Chloe Moretz plays 13-year-old Nebraska girl Luli, who has been dealt a rough hand. Her mother and father spend their evenings getting obnoxiously plastered at the local watering hole, then go at it like a pair of trashy, drunk teenagers. Certain she’s destined for a more glamorous life, Luli packs her things – including her new birthday gift, a Smith & Wesson .45 – and hitches a ride to Vegas. Dressed like a girl twice her age, she’s immediately picked up by a wannabe cowboy named Eddie (Eddie Redmayne), who walks with a limp and acts a little too crazy for comfort. The two fail to hit it off and Luli is ejected from the car. Luckily, she soon meets Glenda (Blake Lively), a grifter who acts as Luli’s big sister – albeit one who offers her drugs and uses her as an accessory to a robbery. Just as things seem to be going moderately well for Luli, Eddie makes an unwelcome return and becomes increasingly difficult to evade. Luli’s life on the road takes more than few calamitous detours, but her flippant attitude and feisty demeanor prevent the dark moments from veering into gratuitously grim territory. No UK release is currently set.

Colin Farrell On For Winter’s Tale

April 27, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Normally a movie looks to fill its lead roles first, but with Winter’s Tale, it’s been the supporting parts that have gained the most interest, with Will Smith and Russell Crowe sniffing around smaller roles in the movie. However it may now have found its lead, as Variety reports Colin Farrell is in talks for the movie.

The story is set in both the present day and the late 19th century, and centres on a thief (Farrell) who falls in love with the Irish heiress (Jessica Brown Findlay) he just robbed, right before she dies. He later learns that he possesses the gift of reincarnation, and becomes determined to save her life. Smith was interested in playing a judge, while Russell Crowe was up to portray a mob boss called Pearly Soames, although it’s not clear if either actor is stillinvolved.

Akiva Goldsman is directing Winter’s Tale from his own screenplay, which he adapted from Mark Halprin’s novel. Production will hopefully start in September.

April 27, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The movie stars Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Yu Nan, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Liam Hemsworth, Jean Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris, Bruce Willis, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. It opens August 17th.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The Expendables are back and this time it’s personal… Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone), Lee Christmas (Jason Statham), Yin Yang (Jet Li), Gunnar Jensen (Dolph Lundgren),Toll Road (Randy Couture) and Hale Caesar (Terry Crews) — with newest members Billy the Kid (Liam Hemsworth) and Maggie (Yu Nan) aboard — are reunited when Mr. Church (Bruce Willis) enlists the Expendables to take on a seemingly simple job. The task looks like an easy paycheck for Barney and his band of old-school mercenaries. But when things go wrong and one of their own is viciously killed, the Expendables are compelled to seek revenge in hostile territory where the odds are stacked against them. Hell-bent on payback, the crew cuts a swath of destruction through opposing forces, wreaking havoc and shutting down an unexpected threat in the nick of time — six pounds of weapons-grade plutonium; enough to change the balance of power in the world. But that’s nothing compared to the justice they serve against the villainous adversary who savagely murdered their brother. That is done the Expendables way…’
