Search For The Young Han Solo Narrows To The Likes Of Alden Ehrenreich, Jack Reynor & Taron Egerton

March 15, 2016 By Tim Isaac 2 Comments

egerton-reynor-ehrenreichThe search for the actor who will play young Han Solo in the planned Star Wars spin-off that will focus on the characters’ early days continues to narrow. Back in January it was said the likes of Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Dave Franco, Logan Lerman, Jack Reynor, Scott Eastwood, Emory Cohen, and Blake Jenner were on the shortlist.

Things seem to have shifted to some new names, with THR reporting that at screen tests in London last weekend were the likes of Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!); Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age of Extinction), Taron Egerton (Kingsman), and Emory Cohen (Brooklyn). Other names are also believed to still be in the mix, with Variety adding Blake Jenner (Everybody Wants Some!!) and Jack O’Connell (Unbroken).

Previous reports have suggested that while the movie isn’t expected to go into production until January 2017 (for a release May 25, 2018), the reason that they want to find their man now is because of a planned cameo in this year’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which is also set before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (21 Jump Street, The Lego Movie) are set to direct the Han Solo flick.

A decision on who will get the role is expected very soon.

Indiana Jones 5 Announced For 2019 With Harrison Ford & Steven Spielberg Returning

March 15, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Indiana-JonesEver since Indiana Jones & The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull there have been rumblings about another film outing for Indy (with many hoping another movie would be made just so the franchise didn’t go out with its underwhelming last installment). There have even been suggestions that Harrison Ford only agreed to make The Force Awakens if Disney promised to make Indy 5.

Now the House Of Mouse has announced that’s exactly what they’re doing, as it’s been revealed that Indiana Jones 5 will be released on July 19th, 2019. There’s no mention of George Lucas though, who was intimately involved in the earlier films and came up with all the stories. As with Star Wars, it’s likely he gave up creative control when he sold Lucasfilm, and if he’s involved at all it will be in a reduced capacity.

There’s also no mention of Shia Labeouf, and it seems unlikely he’ll be back as Mutt (to may people’s relief). Nor is there any info about the plot.

Here’s the full statement from Disney:

SPIELBERG AND FORD REUNITE AS INDIANA JONES RETURNS TO THEATERS JULY 19, 2019

Indiana Jones will return to the big screen on July 19, 2019, for a fifth epic adventure in the blockbuster series. Steven Spielberg, who directed all four previous films, will helm the as-yet-untitled project with star Harrison Ford reprising his iconic role. Franchise veterans Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall will produce.

“Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can’t wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019,” said Alan Horn, Chairman, The Walt Disney Studios. “It’s rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven.”

Famed archaeologist and explorer Indiana Jones was introduced in 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark – one of AFI’s 100 Greatest American Films of All Time – and later thrilled audiences in 1984’s Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, 1989’s Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The four films have brought in nearly $2 billion at the global box office.

A Hologram for the King Trailer – Tom Hanks heads for Saudi Arabia in Tom Twyker’s movie

March 13, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

hologram-for-the-king-slideHot on the heels of the first image from the movie comes the trailer for A Hologram for the King, the movie that reunites Tom Hanks with one of his Cloud Atlas directors, Tom Twyker, and sends him to the Middle East. A UK release date of May 20th has also just been announced.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Starring Academy Award® winner Tom Hanks, A HOLOGRAM FOR THE KING follows businessman Alan Clay (Hanks) on a journey halfway around the world, far from his American roots, to a rising Saudi Arabian city.

‘Based on the best-selling novel by Dave Eggers, Clay is dispatched to pitch a new IT contract to a wealthy King, a project that must be a success for him to stave off bankruptcy, pay his daughter’s college fees, and finally accomplish something big.

‘Tom Tykwer’s comedy-drama is a portrait of the transcendent power of love, recounting the journey of a man in a country that requires him to rise to completely unknown challenges – and that answers old questions in new and unexpected ways.

‘A HOLOGRAM FOR THE KING reunites Hanks and Tykwer, who previously worked together on Cloud Atlas. The film also stars Sarita Choudhury (Homeland), Sidse Babett Knudsen (Borgen), Ben Whishaw (Spectre), Tracey Fairaway (Enough Said), David Menkin (Zero Dark Thirty) and Tom Skerritt (Ted, Top Gun).’ [Read more…]

One Direction’s Harry Styles Offered Feature Debut In Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk

March 13, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

harry-stylesAfter One Direction split-up/took an extended break (I thought I’d add the latter in case you’re too traumatised to think they might not get back together) most expected that Harry Styles would concentrate on a solo career. However, it looks like he’s got acting in his sights, as Deadline reports he’s been offered a role in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk.

Nolan seems to be very busy casting, as the news comes hot on the heels of reports that newcomer Fionn Whitehead is currently the top choice for the lead role, with Jack Lowden and Aneurin Barnard also in talks. Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh and Tom Hardy are already onboard. It’s not known however who any of them would play.

The movie will centre around the Dunkirk evacuation, which occurred in May 1940, when Belgian, British, and French soldiers in Northern France were cut off and surrounded by the German Army. It was a giant military disaster – something even Winston Churchill acknowledged in a speech in the House Of Commons – with hundreds of thousands of men trapped, with the German Army on one side and the sea on the other. A massive evacuation was put into operation, with Naval vessels joined by an armada of ‘little ships’, such as fishing boats, small ferries, tourist boats, lifeboats and merchant marine craft, which braved the seas and German guns in order to help rescue over 300,000 men.

The evacuation is one of the most incredible stories of the war – an event which could have allowed the Germans to win if the men had not been saved. Nolan’s movie will be released July 21st, 2017.

Jake Gyllenhaal Is In For Life With Ryan Reynolds & Rebecca Ferguson

March 13, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jake-GyllenhaalJake Gyllenhaal has gotten Life – or at least he’s signed on to star in a movie of that name. He joins the previously cast Ryan Reynolds and Rebecca Ferguson in the sci-fi tale (some reports have suggested Gyllenhaal is replacing Reynolds, but Variety says both actors will be involved).

The film follows ‘the crew of the International Space Station, who, after retrieving a sample from Mars, discover that it displays signs of life, and proves to be more intelligent than expected.’ There’s no info on whether the tone is more action or horror, or indeed possible comedy, considering it’s written by Deadpool’s Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese.

Daniel Espinosa (Safe House) is set to direct the movie. It’s expected to shoot this year, probably after Gyllenhaal is finished with Stronger, about the Boston Marathon bombings.

Halle Berry Will Be The CIA Chief In Kingsman 2

March 13, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

halle-berryIt looks like there are a couple more Kingsman movies planned, as Deadline reports that not only is Halle Berry in talks to play the head of the CIA in Kingsman 2, but it’s part of a two-picture deal, suggesting a third movie in the series is already in the works. No deal has been signed yet, but it looks like Berry will take the role.

There’s not too much info on the plot, but we do know that Julianne Moore has signed up to play the villain. Having the CIA Chief involved also seems to confirm director Matthew Vaughn’s hint that the second movie may involve the American counterpart to the British spy action of Kingsman.

It’s not too surprising that Colin Firth won’t be back, but Taron Egerton will indeed return. The film will shoot this summer, with a June 16th, 2017 release date already set.

The Outs Season 2 Trailer – Get a taste of the return of the popular gay-themed web series

March 10, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

the-outs-season-2-trailer-slideLast October it was announced that video site Vimeo was starting to produce original programming, and that one of the first things it was backing was a second season of the extremely popular gay-themed web series, The Outs. Now the trailer for that new season has been released, which you can take a look at below.

Of Season 2 it’s previously been written that, ‘It’s been three years since the first season ended. During that time, Jack (Hunter Canning), Oona (Sasha Winters) and Mitchell (Adam Goldman) have gotten a little older, a little more tired, and the tiniest bit closer to figuring out what they want. Figuring out how to get it, though… that’s another story.’

The six episode season is available for pre-order now via Vimeo. Will it be as good as the show’s first outing? Get a taste below. [Read more…]

Sacha Baron Cohen’s Planned Movie The Lesbian Is A Musical

March 10, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

sacha-baron-cohenIt’s been a couple of years since we last heard about Sacha Baron Cohen’s plans for a movie called The Lesbian. Many thought the film had been abandoned, but it’s turns out it’s still alive and not just that – it’s a musical! That certainly helps explain why it’s taking so long to develop.

Talking to JoBlo recently, Cohen said, “I’m developing a musical called The Lesbian at the moment, which is based on the true story of a billionaire whose daughter tells him she’s getting married to a woman and he offers $65 million to any man who can turn her straight. It’s a true story, but we’re doing the twist on it.”

The movie will be loosely based on the true story of Hong Kong billionaire Cecil Chao, who offered a hefty $65 million reward to any man who marries his daughter, even though she’s a lesbian who lives in France with her wife (and has even has the relationship blessed by a French church).

One of the more interesting things about the tale is that Cecil Chao has never even married himself, so it’s not like he’s an avid believer in the institution, it appears he just doesn’t want his offspring to be gay. It’s also known that despite the massive dowry, his daughter remains on good terms with him.

Sacha Baron Cohen is looking to play the billionaire father, so it’s likely there’ll be some racial changes from real life to the movie.

Captain America: Civil War Trailer – Get your first look at Tom Holland’s Spider-man

March 10, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

captain-america-civil-war-spider-manWhile there have been quite a few images and posters for Captain America: Civil War, they’ve deliberately shied away from showing us one of the main things everyone wants to see – Spider-man’s first appearance in a Marvel movie. The deal between Sony and Marvel allowed it to happen, and Tom Holland was cast in the role, with Civil War marking his first appearance before he gets a standalone movie.

However, the new Captain America: Civil War makes the big reveal, so get a good look at the new Spidey below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.

‘Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Emily VanCamp, Frank Grillo and Martin Freeman, with William Hurt and Daniel Brühl.

‘Anthony & Joe Russo are directing with Kevin Feige producing. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Patricia Whitcher, Nate Moore and Stan Lee are the executive producers. The screenplay is by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely. Get ready to pick a side and join the nonstop action playing out on two fronts when Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” opens in U.K. cinemas on 29 April, 2016.’ [Read more…]
