First Poster From Matt Smith’s Biopic Of Gay Artist, Robert Mapplethorpe, Focus On The Crotch

April 16, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The first poster for the upcoming biopic of legendary gay photographer Robert Mapplethorpe has arrived, as like the provocative artist, it’s interested in a man’s crotch. The biopic, starring Matt Smith, has its World Premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 22nd, so it’s a good time for us to get our first look.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Robert Mapplethorpe’s portraits, images of calla lilies, and chronicles of New York City’s underground BDSM scene remain touchstones of 20th-century photography even now, nearly three decades after his death from complications of HIV/AIDS in 1989. Mapplethorpe revisits the titular photographer’s legacy, beginning at the moment just before he takes up residence in the Chelsea Hotel. There, Mapplethorpe begins to amass a portfolio of images—and, at the same time, to explore his formerly supressed attraction to men. But Mapplethorpe’s relentless ambition—as he says in one early scene, “I can’t just be Mapplethorpe the photographer,” fancying himself a “modern Michelangelo”—threatens to tear apart the relationships he cherishes the most.

‘From the early ’70s until his untimely death at age 42, the film explores the intersection of his art and his sexuality, his struggle for mainstream recognition, and, looming above it all, the specter of the emerging AIDS crisis. Featuring Matt Smith (Doctor Who, The Crown) and Marianne Rendón, the biopic offers a nuanced portrait of an artist at the height of his craft and of the self-destructive impulses that threaten to undermine it all.’

Pose Preview – First look at Ryan Murphy’s show with one of the biggest LGBTQ casts ever

April 16, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Back at the end of October, Ryan Murphy’s planned TV series, Pose, caused a lot of interest due to the news that it was set to feature five major trans roles in the show, all of them to be played by trans actors – that’s more than any mainstream US series before it. Alongside them there are numerous other LGBTQ roles, with Murphy saying, “I’m so proud that Pose and FX has made history right from the beginning by featuring the most trans series regular actors ever in an American television production. Additionally, the first season Pose will feature 50-plus LGBTQ characters – a record in American television history. I can’t wait for people to see this incredibly talented, passionate cast.”

The show itself has a period piece set in the mid-’80s in New York City, examining the juxtaposition of several segments of life and society in Manhattan: the emergence of the luxury Trump-era universe, the ball culture world, and downtown social and literary scene. The trans and other LGBTQ characters will mainly feature in the ball culture section of the show, which will focus on the the LGBT subculture that emerged in the 1980s, and sees different ‘houses’ and people competing against one another in lavish balls.

MJ Rodriguez (Blanca); Indya Moore (Angel); Dominique Jackson (Elektra); Hailie Sahar (Lulu) and Angelica Ross (Candy) are playing the major trans roles, with James Van Der Beek, Kate Mara, Evan Peters, Ryan Jamaal Swain, Billy Porter, and Dyllon Burnside also set to star. Pose arrives on US TV in early June. It’s not clear when we’ll get to see it in the UK. [Read more…]

Hotel Artemis Trailer – Jodie Foster runs an ER for criminals

April 16, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

When you read the synopsis for Hotel Artemis, it sounds like it should be part of the John Wick universe, but it must have a little more going for it than that to bring in a cast including Jodie Foster, Sterling K. Brown, Sofia Boutella, Jenny Slate, Zachary Quinto, Jeff Goldblum, Charlie Day, and Dave Bautista. Now we can take a look at the film with the first trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Jean Thomas, aka THE NURSE (Jodie Foster) is the manager of the Hotel Artemis, an ultra-exclusive, members-only hospital hidden in a hotel redolent of faded ‘20s glamour. Tough, sharp and utterly fearless, The Nurse treats an assortment of assassins, gunrunners, thieves and gangsters in an unexpected state-of-the-art emergency room capable of providing a new liver with a 3-D printer or injecting a patient with nanobots that heal from the inside out. With the help of her towering assistant EVEREST, The Nurse wrangles some of the most dangerous criminals in the world, from sultry French assassin NICE and international arms dealer ACAPULCO, to bank robbers WAIKIKI and his brother HONOLULU.

‘One night as a violent riot rages on the streets of Los Angeles, legendary crime boss Orian Franklin, aka NIAGARA, arrives needing immediate treatment after a failed attempt on his life. Niagara’s sudden arrival creates a violent clash among the criminals in the hospital, with one ‘patient’ having a particularly deadly motive for checking into the hotel. The Nurse makes a decision that could jeopardize the future of the ER and everyone in it. Now the safest place for criminals in the city has become the most dangerous.’

The film hits cinemas on July 20th. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

April 15, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Synopsis: ‘Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Rihanna and Helena Bonham Carter team up in the action adventure Ocean’s 8. Five years, eight months, 12 days…and counting. That’s how long Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock) has been devising the biggest heist of her life.

‘She knows what it’s going to take—a team of the best in their field, starting with her partner-in-crime Lou Miller (Cate Blanchett). Hot Summer Nights Trailer – Timothee Chalamet gets into dealing pot

April 14, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Timothee Chalamet really has come out of nowhere in the last year, scoring an Oscar nomination for Call Me By Your Name, whilst also appearing in the much praised Lady Bird and alongside Christian Bale in Hostiles. Now he’s taking the lead in a romantic thriller, although some will be sad the romance isn’t with Armie Hammer this time.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Set in Cape Cod over one scorching summer, Hot Summer Nights follows Daniel (Timothée Chalamet), a shy out-of-towner who gets in over his head flipping weed with the neighborhood rebel (Alex Roe) while pursuing his new business partner’s enigmatic sister (Maika Monroe). With a hurricane looming in the wings, tensions rise against a backdrop of drive-ins, arcades, and crashed parties as the stakes (and temperatures) grow ever higher.’

Hot Summer Nights arrives in the US in June. It’s not clear when it will arrive in the UK. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Dark Crimes Trailer – Jim Carrey returns, get serious & wants to solve a murder

April 14, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s four years since Jim Carrey took the lead in a movie, and he’s decided that for his return he should try something rather different. Gone is the zany comedy to be replaced by a grey beard and a serious murder mystery.

Here’s the very brief synopsis: ‘A murder investigation of a slain business man turns to clues found in an author’s book about an eerily similar crime. Based on the 2008 article “True Crimes – A postmodern murder mystery” by David Grann.’

Carrey stars alongside Charlotte Gainsbourg, Marton Csokas with Alexandros Avranas directing. The film is released on DirecTV in the US on April 19th before arriving in cinema/VoD on May 11th. It’s not know when it will arrive in the UK. Take a look at the cinemas below. [Read more…]
