Take A Look Behind The Scenes Of Looking – Season 2 With Jonathan Groff & Co.

November 24, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

looking-s2-btsHBO recently announced that their gay-themed hit series Looking will be back on US screens starting January 11th. We had a brief teaser a few days ago and now HBO is giving us a look behind the scenes of the show with a couple of new videos.

You can take a look at them below.

The guy’s lives were in flux at the end of the first season, Jonathan Groff’s Patrick in the middle of a love triangle with Raul Castillo’s Richie and Russell Tovey’s Kevin. Meanwhile Agustin (Frankie J. Alvarez) and Frank’s (O.T. Fagbenle) relationship had hit the skids while Dom (Murray Bartlett) was trying to figure out his love life while also attempting to open a restaurant.

The makers have promised there’ll be plenty of change in Season 2. [Read more…]

Far From The Madding Crowd Teaser Trailer – Carey Mulligan, Matthias Schoenaerts and Tom Sturridge take on Thomas Hardy

November 24, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

far-from-the-madding-crowd-poster1Having been forced to study it at school, I have an irrational hatred of Far From The Madding Crowd, but hopefully this new film version won’t be as tedious as the book (the 1967 movie with Julie Christie and Terence Stamp wasn’t bad, so there is hope).

This new take from director Thomas Vinterberg stars Carey Mulligan, Matthias Schoenaerts, Michael Sheen and Tom Sturridge, and now the first teaser trailer and poster have arrived.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Based on the literary classic by Thomas Hardy, FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD is the story of independent, beautiful and headstrong Bathsheba Everdene (Carey Mulligan), who attracts three very different suitors: Gabriel Oak (Matthias Schoenaerts), a sheep farmer, captivated by her fetching wilfulness; Frank Troy (Tom Sturridge), a handsome and reckless Sergeant; and William Boldwood (Michael Sheen), a prosperous and mature bachelor. This timeless story of Bathsheba’s choices and passions explores the nature of relationships and love – as well as the human ability to overcome hardships through resilience and perseverance.’

It’ll be out in cinemas next Spring. [Read more…]

Jurassic World Trailer Tease – Chris Pratt & Bryce Dallas Howard enter the dinosaur park

November 23, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Chris-Pratt-Jurassic-WorldAfter a 14 year gap the Jurassic Park franchise is returning in 2015 with Jurassic World, which takes us inside the fully functioning dinosaur theme park that John Hammond always envisioned. Now we can take out first look, although a very brief one. It does show us some real footage though, including some dinos, along with stars Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt.

Along with the 15 second tease is the promise we’ll be getting a full trailer this Friday.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Steven Spielberg returns to executive produce the long-awaited next installment of his groundbreaking Jurassic Park series, Jurassic World. Colin Trevorrow directs the epic action-adventure from a screenplay he wrote with Derek Connolly. Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley join the team as fellow producers.

‘Jurassic World was shot in 3D and will be released by Universal Pictures in June  12th, 2015.’ [Read more…]

Strange Magic Trailer – George Lucas has come up with an animated jukebox musical

November 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

strange-magic-slideLucasfilm managed to keep the movie Strange Magic very quiet. It’s from a story by George Lucas, inspired by A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and has been in the works for a long time. However nobody outside the production had heard much about it until some images were released last month, along with the surprise news that it was complete and would be out in the US at the end of January.

Now we’ve got a trailer, which shows that this isn’t just an animated movie, it’s also a Jukebox musical full of tunes from the last six decades.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘“Strange Magic” is a madcap fairy tale musical inspired by “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Popular songs from the past six decades help tell the tale of a colorful cast of goblins, elves, fairies and imps, and their hilarious misadventures sparked by the battle over a powerful potion. Lucasfilm Animation Singapore and Industrial Light & Magic, which created the CGI animation for 2011’s Academy Award®-winning film “Rango,” bring to life the fanciful forest turned upside down with world-class animation and visual effects.’

It’s due out January 23rd, 2015 in the US, but no UK date is currently set. [Read more…]

Son Of A Gun Trailer – Ewan McGregor and Brenton Thwaites head to prison

November 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Son-of-a-Gun-Pic1Ewan McGregor and Brenton Thwaites are turning bad boys for the thriller Son of A Gun. They’re in prison. but they wanna break out and pull a big job – and from the evidence of this trailer, McGregor isn’t the nicest of convicts.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In the criminal world, life is like a game of chess. To gain control, you have to stay a few moves ahead of your opponent. Lose that control, and you risk becoming a pawn in their very dangerous game. During a six-month stint inside a West Australian prison, rookie criminal JR (BRENTON THWAITES) meets the smart and enigmatic Brendan Lynch (EWAN McGREGOR). In exchange for protection on the inside, JR agrees to help Brendan get outside, hooking up with the influential Sam Lennox (JACEK KOMAN) to orchestrate a daring prison escape that frees Brendan, and inmates Sterlo (MATT NABLE) and Merv (EDDIE BAROO).

‘JR is rewarded for his efforts, and with a taste of the high life and flirtations with Sam’s beautiful girl Tasha (ALICIA VIKANDER), he gets sucked deeper into Brendan’s criminal world. But whose game is he playing?

‘Becoming a father-like mentor to JR, Brendan convinces him to join on another high stakes job – robbing a Kalgoorlie gold mine. But with millions of dollars at stake, it’s hard to tell whom JR can trust, and whose side each player is actually on. And with his feelings for Tasha increasing, and his faith in Brendan decreasing, JR must figure out his next move… before its check, mate.’

In the UK it will hit cinemas on January 30th, but it’ll be a DirectTV Exclusive from December 11th, with a cinema release on January 16th, 2015. [Read more…]

Channing Tatum Plans To Direct Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock

November 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Channing-TatumFor a while it’s been known that Channing Tatum has been looking for project to co-direct with his business partner, Reid Carolin (they thought about helming Magic Mike XXL, but ultimately passed). Now one has jumped to the top of the pack, as THR reports he’s set to helm an adaptation of Matthew Quick’s book Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock.

The young adult novel ‘centers on a troubled high schooler who plans to kill his best friend and then himself.’ Tatum may also star in the movie, and if he does, he’ll play a teacher who tries to stop the young man’s plan.

If this does become his directorial debut, he’ll certainly be starting off with something difficult and dramatic, but would flex his muscles as both a helmer and an actor. At the moment it’s not known when it might shoot, or indeed when Tatum will have a slot in his incredibly busy schedule.

Dallas Buyers Club’s Jean-Marc Vallee To Direct Amy Adams’ Janis Joplin Biopic

November 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jean-marc-valleeWill we finally be getting a major Janis Joplin biopic? She’s the woman it seems everyone in Hollywood has tried to make a movie about, but yet endless possible projects have fallen by the wayside. However now one is getting some traction, partly thanks to having Amy Adams on board to lend it some weight (but even so it’s been languishing for several years).

Now it has a director, as Deadline reports that Dallas Buyers Club helmer has taken on the movie. He’s the latest to show an interest after previous dalliances with the likes of Fernando Meirelles and Lee Daniels.

Not too much is known about the movie, such as whether it will cover her whole life or just focus on one particular period. With her unusual, alternative style, Joplin became a legend and inspiration to many, before dying from a heroin overdose at the age of just 27.

It’ll be interesting to see whether the film properly deals with Joplin’s bisexuality. There’s a good chance as Vallee is gay and he first came to international attention with the 2005 LGBT coming of age movie C.R.A.Z.Y. (which you ought to watch, if you never have).

The hope is to shoot the Joplin biopic next summer, working from a script by Ron Terry and Teresa Terry.

Brenton Thwaites Nabs Key Pirates of the Caribbean 5 Role

November 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

brenton-thwaitesWith Pirates of the Caribbean 5 finally set to go in front of the cameras early next year, it’s time to start filling out the non-Jack Sparrow roles. As seems compulsory for the franchise, Jack needs a young, good-looking male co-star, but rather than Orlando Bloom or Sam Claflin, this time round it will be Aussie actor Brenton Thwaites, according to TheWrap.

As we reported a few weeks ago, the likes of Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service), George Mackay (Pride), Mitchell Hope (Descendants), Ansel Elgort (The Fault In Our Stars) and Sam Keeley (In The Heart Of The Sea), but Maleficent and Oculus star Thwaites won out.

There are few details on his role other than that he’ll be a British soldier called Henry.

Javier Bardem is likely to play the main villain (although it appears his deal hasn’t been finalised yet), with Geoffrey Rush and Ian McShane also believed to be returning. Next to be cast is likely to be a young, female key role, Barbosa’s daughter Carina Smyth.

Espen Sandberg and Joachim Rø (Kon-Tiki) are directing from a screenplay by Jeff Nathanson. A July 2017 release is expected.

Richard Chamberlain Has No Regrets About Staying In The Closet During The Height Of His Fame

November 21, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

richard-chamberlain-old-youngAlthough there had been rumours over the years, actor Richard Chamberlain didn’t step out of the closet until long after his fame as star of the likes of the TV show Dr. Kildare and mini-series such as Shogun and The Thorn Birds had faded. Indeed it was a long time after that, as he didn’t reveal his sexuality publicly until he was nearly 70 and had an autobiography to sell in 2003.

However he doesn’t regret having stayed in the closet all those years.

Now 80, he was chosen as one of the Out100 by Out Magazine. He told them, “Remaining in hiding was a totally valuable part of my life. I was a romantic lead in films at a time before some of the new relaxations and new diminishment of total ignorance. If I were ever outed, my career – which was my entire life, for the longest time – wouldn’t have happened. I spent a great deal of my life pretending to be somebody else.”

Chamberlain is still working, most recently returning to the stage this autumn for an Off-Broadway production of David Rabe’s Sticks and Bones.

John Cameron Mitchell Returning To Hedwig For A Broadway Run

November 21, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

hedwig-film-slideWhen Hedwig And The Angry Inch was heading to Broadway, its creator, John Cameron Mitchell, seemed to be very careful to keep his distance, not because he had a problem with it, but because he knew that this new incarnation wasn’t his baby. After all, Hedwig was once very much his singular creation, a character he’d started in cabaret, turned into a stage show and then taken to the screen As a result he gave the impression that as the Broadway version was something new and different, he was happy to let others get on with it with sticking his nose in.

However as has been rumoured for a few weeks, once Michael C. Hall’s run in the show ends, John Cameron Mitchell will take over as Broadway’s Hedwig from January 21st for a limited eight-week run.

Even though many thought Hedwig would end once Neil Patrick Harris hung up the platinum blonde wigs last summer, the show has continued to be a massive success, with actors and audiences lining up for the show about a transsexual German rocker, who recounts her story and sings plenty of excellent songs.

And if you need any more evidence of why you should try to get tickets for John Cameron Mitchell run on stage, we highly recommend checking out the brilliant Hedwig movie.
