Brittany Snow Back For Pitch Perfect 2

February 16, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Brittany-Snow-Pitch-PerfectA few days ago Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson both finalised deals to return for Pitch Perfect 2. Now one more member of the original cast has signed up, as Deadline reports that Brittany Snow has also ben confirmed to reprise her role.

Elizabeth Banks is set to make her directorial debut with the sequel, and will also be back in front of the camera, reprising her part. Pitch Perfect writer Kay Cannon has come up with the sequel script, although no story details have been released thus far. The first film followed a young college student (Anna Kendrick) who helps turn around an a cappella singing group, leading them into the finals of a big competition.

It isn’t known when production will begin on this highly-anticipated sequel, but with the cast coming quickly and a May 15th, 2015 release date set, shooting can’t be too far off.

It isn’t known yet if other stars from the original such as Skylar Astin, Ben Platt, Anna Camp and Alexis Knapp will be back or not, although it’s believed most will.

Ron Howard in Talks For Warner’s The Jungle Book

February 16, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ron-howardBack in December, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu entered talks to direct Warner’s planned live-action take on The Jungle Book. They couldn’t come to terms though, largely due to scheduling, but it seems the studio may have found a replacement, as THR reports that Ron Howard is now in talks for the film.

Callie Kloves, the daughter of Harry Potter screenwriter Steve Kloves, wrote the script, based on Rudyard Kipling’s classic 1894 story. Kipling’s tales are set in India, centring on a young boy named Mowgli, who has been raised by wolves in the jungle. He befriends a bear named Baloo and a black panther named Bagheera, while battling the nefarious tiger, Shere Khan.

It isn’t known when production will begin, but it’s believed Warner Bros. wants to get it moving as quickly as possible, as it’s up against a rival adaptation from Disney, which Jon Favreau is directing from a screenplay by Justin Marks.

Juno & X-Men Actress Ellen Page Publicly Comes Out As Gay

February 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ellen-Page
Revealing what has long been rumoured but never previously confirmed, Juno actress Ellen Page as come out as gay. The 26-year-old revealed the news in Las Vegas at the Human Rights Campaign’s THRIVE conference benefiting LGBTQ youth, as reported by THR.

Delivering her speech, she said, “I’m here today because I am gay. And because maybe I can make a difference. To help others have an easier and more hopeful time. Regardless, for me, I feel a personal obligation and a social responsibility.”

“I am tired of hiding and I am tired of lying by omission,” she added. “I suffered for years because I was scared to be out. My spirit suffered, my mental health suffered and my relationships suffered. And I’m standing here today, with all of you, on the other side of all that pain.”

Page has long spoken of the difficulty she’s felt in the public eye, especially when people have made comments about her gender expression (such as her preference for comfy clothes over stereotypically sexy attire). There have also long been suggestions she was a lesbian, although again it’s never been certain whether this was people making assumptions or based on actual knowledge.

It marks one of the first times a young person who could legitimately be referred to as a ‘movie star’, has let the public know they are gay, and it will be interesting to see what impact, if any, it has on her career (which is what many say is the main reason they stay in the closet).

Page will be seen this summer reprising her role as Kitty Pryde in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Jinkx Monsoon Documentary Drag Becomes Him Seeks Funding

February 14, 2014 By Tim Isaac 2 Comments

There are some absolutely superb drag queens in the US at the moment, and Jinkx Monsoon is close to the front of the pack. Now there are plans to make a feature-length documentary about the performer, based on a successful five-part web series that was originally released on Youtube.

In order to make that happen, filmmaker Basil Shadid has launched a Kickstarter, hoping to raise $20,000 to get the documentary completed.

Following on from the web series, ‘DRAG BECOMES HIM continues it’s intimate look at the life and work of Jinkx Monsoon. New footage includes childhood memories, family conversations, international tour footage, the making of a music video, thoughts on winning RuPaul’s Drag Race, life on the road, and life in drag.’

They add ‘JINKX is not just a great performer; She’s an inspiration. Her dedication, charisma, talent, humility, and grace can serve to inspire people to be true to themselves and create a better, more entertaining world. This isn’t fluff; it really is what we believe. Jinkx moves us. We want to honor that by making a film that can celebrate her by sharing the intimate side of Jinkx Monsoon with the world.’

If you want to help out, head over to Kickstarter. [Read more…]

New Nymphomaniac: Volume 1 Trailer – Is there more to Lars Von Trier’s movie than sex?

February 14, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After a lot of buzz and interest, it’s not too long now until audiences will get to take a look at Lars Von Trier’s Nymphomaniac, with the release of Part 1 of the two part film. While most people have concentrated on the success, the largely positive reviews have suggested there’s more to the movie than that, and this trailer gives us a feel for that, as it certainly doesn’t bother with any of the hardcore shots the movie contains.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The film is a wild and poetic story of a woman’s erotic journey from birth to the age of 50 as told by the main character, the self-diagnosed nymphomaniac, Joe (Charlotte Gainsbourg). On a cold winter’s evening the old, charming bachelor, Seligman (Stellan Skarsgard), finds Joe beaten up in an alley. He brings her home to his flat where he cares for her wounds while asking her about her life. He listens intently as Joe over the next 8 chapters recounts the lushly branched-out and multi-faceted story of her life, rich in associations and interjecting incidents.’

Shia LaBeouf, Jamie Bell, Christian Slater, Willem Dafoe, Uma Thurman, Connie Neilsen and Stacy Martin also star. It should arrive in the UK in March. [Read more…]

The Love Punch Trailer – Take a look at the Pierce Brosnan & Emma Thompson movie

February 14, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Love Punch may sound like some sort of kinky sexual act, but it’s actually a new movie with a great cast including Pierce Brosnan, Emma Thompson, Timothy Spall, Selia Imrie and Tuppence Middleton. Now the trailer has arrived.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Spanning locations in Paris, London and the French Riviera THE LOVE PUNCH brings together Pierce Brosnan (Mama Mia) and Academy-Award winner Emma Thompson (Saving Mr Banks) for the first time, as ex-husband and wife Richard and Kate whose biting banter suggests that the flames of their former relationship have not been fully extinguished… Unfortunately the same cannot be said for their retirement nest egg which is wiped out when Richard’s investment firm is defrauded and the pension fund is siphoned away.

‘Learning that the unscrupulous French financier behind the scheme has just purchased a $10million diamond for his bride to be, the divorced duo grudgingly agree to set aside their differences, and hatch a plot to gate-crash the wedding and steal the rock.

‘Roped in to assist in the heist are the couple’s former neighbours Timothy Spall (The King’s Speech) and Celia Imrie (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel) who are also rooting for their reconciliation. The foursome form an unlikely band of lawbreakers in this classic comedy caper set against the sun drenched backdrop of the Cote d’Azur.

‘From BAFTA winning director Joel Hopkins (Jump Tomorrow, Last Chance Harvey) THE LOVE PUNCH is released in UK cinemas on 18th April 2014.’ [Read more…]

Tammy Teaser Trailer – Plus a poster for the Melissa McCarthy movie

February 14, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Melissa McCarthy is living two lives at the moment. She’s great in movies and becoming a true star, but she’s also stuck in the frankly embarrassing sitcom Mike & Molly, which has achieved the almost impressive feat of managing four whole seasons with only one joke – look fat people!

However she’s spreading her wings on film, co-writing the script for Tammy and producing, while her hubby, Ben Falcone, directs and wrote the script with McCarthy. While we’ve had a couple of images, now the first teaser trailer and poster has arrived.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘After losing her job and learning that her husband has been unfaithful, a woman (Melissa McCarthy) hits the road with her profane, hard-drinking grandmother (Susan Sarandon).”

Tammy is due in cinemas at the beginning of July. [Read more…]

Julianne Moore & Zach Galifianakis Join Ellen Page In The Gay Right Drama Freeheld

February 14, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Julianne-MooreFor a very long time, Ellen Page has been attached to Freeheld, but it’s been held up while they try to finalise funding and get it ready for the cameras. Hopefully though now it’s moving forwards, as Julianne Moore and Zach Galifianakis have both joined the film.

The movie is based on a 2007 documentary of the same name, about a landmark LGBT equality case, which won the Oscar for documentary short.

Page is set to play mechanic Stacie Andree, who was denied the pension benefits of her longtime partner and New Jersey police detective Laurel Hester (Julianne Moore), when the latter became terminally ill. While Hester’s detective partner Dane Wells was conservative and initially surprised to learn of Hester’s sexual orientation, he stepped up to become the leader in the fight for Laurel’s rights to assign her benefits to Andree. The person playing Wells is yet to be cast.

Galifianakis is set to be Steven Goldstein, a Garden State Equality activist who played an important role in the case.

Philadephia screenwrite Ron Nyswaner has come up with the script, while Peter Sollett (Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist) will direct. The current plan is to shoot this summer.
