Ewan McGregor Will Have The Last Days In The Desert

February 5, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ewan-mcgregorEwan McGregor has bagged himself a new role, as Variety reports that he’s signed up to star in Last Days In The Desert, alongside Mud star Tye Sheridan. Rodrigo Garcia (Albert Nobbs) is set to write and direct the film.

It sounds like McGregor will be pulling double duty, as he’ll be ‘both a holy man and a demon on a journey through the desert who encounters a family struggling to survive — forcing the holy man to confront his own fate.’

Ciaran Hinds and Ayelet Zurer are also onboard, playing the parents of Sheridan’s character.

The movie will star shooting later this month in the Southern California desert.

Elton John Plans Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat Movie

February 5, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Elton-JohnElton John is still busy working on a biopic of his life, with Tom Hardy set to star, but his Rocket Films outfits has some other plans too, as THR reports they’re putting together an animated version of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Elton is set to be an executive producer, while his hubby David Furnish will produce alongside Rocket Pictures’ Steve Hamilton Shaw.

Originally written to be performed in a London school in 1968, Joseph became a concept album before going on to be one of the most successful stage shows in history, with numerous productions playing all over the world in the last 40 years.

The musical follows the biblical story of Joseph, who is given the Technicolor Dreamcoat by his father, which angers his brothers so much that they sell him into slavery. Joseph ends up in Egypt, and his fortunes begin to change when he is able to interpret the pharaoh’s prophetic dreams.

No writer, director, or stars are attached to the film at the moment, and it’s also not known when we might see the movie.

Tom Hiddleston Goes Into J.G. Ballard’s High-Rise For Sightseers Director Ben Wheatley

February 5, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tom-hiddlestonTom Hiddleston is out to prove there’s more to him than Loki, as he’s signed on for Ben Wheatley’s planned adaptation of J.G. Ballard’s novel, High Rise. The director Tweeted the news himself, saying ‘HIGHRISE. shooting June. Starring Tom Hiddleston!’, along with the pic below.

Set in a luxury high-rise building, the book is almost a grown-up Lord Of The Flies, which follows a group of tenants hell-bent on an orgy of destruction. Cocktail parties degenerate into marauding attacks on ‘enemy’ floors and the once-luxurious amenities become an arena for technological mayhem. Human society slips into violent reverse as the inhabitants of the ultra-modern high-rise, driven by primal urges, recreate a world ruled by the laws of the jungle.

There’s no news yet on exactly who Hiddleston will play, but speculation is that he will either be TV producer Richard Wilder, antisocial physiologist Dr Robert Laing, or the wealthy Anthony Royal, who designed the building himself and lives in the penthouse.

Making a movie based on the 1975 book has long been a dream project for producer Jeremy Thomas (who was also Ballard’s friend), and now it seems he’s finally going to make it happen. [Read more…]

Horrible Bosses Director Seth Gordon Takes On Uncharted Videogame Adaptation

February 5, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

seth-gordonThe idea of adapting the videogame franchise Uncharted has been doing the rounds of Hollywood for a long time, with the likes of David O. Russell and Neil Burger coming and going from the director’s chair. However now a new director may be able get things back on track, as Deadline reports Horrible Bosses helmer Seth Gordon is in negotiations to direct.

The most recent draft of the screenplay was written by David Guggenheim. The studio liked it so much they’ve also hired him to write the action sequel Bad Boys 3. The likes of Cormac Wibberley, Marianne Wibberley, Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer have previously worked on the screenplay.

The Uncharted videogame follows a descendent of Sir Francis Drake, Nate Drake, a treasure hunter who thinks he has learned the whereabouts of El Dorado, the fabled golden city. As well as having to battle competing treasure seekers, he also has to do battle with mutated descendants of Spaniards and Nazis, who want to stop Nate getting to his goal. As the game was designed to feel like an Indiana Jones style big summer movie, it’s unsurprising Hollywood is thinks a film version might be a success.

No cast is currently attached (mark Wahlberg was previously attached but he’s no longer involved) but the studio hopes to start production sometime this year.

G.B.F. UK Trailer – Does everyone need a gay best friend in Darren Stein’s comedy?

February 4, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

We enjoyed G.B.F. (Gay Best Friend) when we caught it at the Iris Prize Festival, and now Peccadillo Pictures is setting out to let the rest of the UK get a look at the comedy. It’s due in British cinemas on March 21st, on demand March 22nd and on DVD April 7th. But before then you can take a look at the new UK trailer, (which was initially released via DigitalSpy).

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Meet Tanner (Michael J. Willett) and Brent (Paul Iacono). They are two gay best friends.  Brent longs for the spotlight and believes that coming out will make him instantly popular as this year’s must-have teen girl accessory; North Gateway High’s very first G.B.F. (or Gay Best Friend). Tanner on the other hand, would rather fly under the radar and finish high school without ever being noticed.

When things don’t go according to plan and Tanner is outed instead of Brent, the two boys go from B.F.Fs to instant frenemies. Enter the three most popular girls in school — queen-of-mean bombshell Fawcett, drama club diva Caprice, and sweet, Mormon good-girl ‘Shley, who launch an all-out social war to win Tanner’s status-enhancing friendship.

‘Featuring an all-star cast including Desperate Housewives’ Andrea Bowen, Will & Grace’s Megan Mullally, Orange Is The New Black’s Natasha Lyonne and Harry Potter’s Evanna Lynch. From the director of cult 90s teen movie JAWBREAKER comes this comic send-up of American high school clique culture in the vein of MEAN GIRLS and AMERICAN PIE’ [Read more…]

There were actually relatively few episodes of the original 1981 stop-motion TV series Postman Pat made, but it became immensely popular with kids, which resulted in endless re-runs as well as new series in the 1990s and 2000s.

February 4, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Lionsgate must have a lot of confidence on Divergent, as while it’s common to start developing sequels before the first film has been released, in this case they’re moving ahead enough that they’re already planning to shoot the follow-up, Insurgent, in May.

But before then we’ll get Divergent, and now the final trailer has been released.
