Russell Tovey Says He’s Talked With Tom Daley About Coming Out

January 11, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Russell-ToveyRussell Tovey has a lot of British fans thanks to the likes of Being Human and Him & Her, and he’s about to go up in the estimation of gay guys in US thanks to playing a major role in HBO’s new series Looking, about a group of gay guys in San Francisco (it starts in the US on January 19th).

Like many of the other cast members, Tovey is gay in real life too, something he’s always been open about. And while talking to the Evening Standard, he’s revealed that he admires the way Tom Daley came out so much, he’s had a chat with him about it.

He says of Tom, That was what was so brilliant about what he did — the video was very casual, not even beautifully lit, just him lying on his bed going, ‘Oh fuck it, now’s the time. Yes, guys, here it is. Done. Gone. Sending it out there; see what happens’ … I messaged him and said, ‘I’m proud of you, it’s brilliant what you’ve done, mate’. He just said, ‘Thanks’. He’s really sweet. I feel slightly protective of him but I don’t want to patronise anyone. I can say, ‘If you ever need help’…  and put it out there, but he’s [in a world] beyond me. If there was a younger actor wondering whether to come out, I’d advise them, definitely.”

Aww, now we love him even more.

Richard Gere & David Strathairn Join The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 2

January 11, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Richard-GereWhile The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel mainly stuck with British and Indian actors, the sequel is getting an infusion of American men. Back in October it was revealed they were trying to land Richard Gere for the movie. Now he’s officially signed on and so has the always excellent David Strathairn, as well as a new Brit, Tamsin Grieg.

Most of the original cast will also be back, including Judi Dench (Evelyn), Maggie Smith (Muriel), Bill Nighy (Douglas), Dev Patel (Sonny), Celia Imrie (Madge), Ronald Pickup (Norman), Penelope Wilton (Jean), Diana Hardcastle (Carol), Tena Desae (Sunaina) and Lillete Dubey (Mrs. Kapoor).

John Madden (Shakespeare in Love) has returned to helm, working from an original screenplay by Ol Parker. The movie follows, ‘the expansionist dream of Sonny (Dev Patel), and it’s making more claims on his time than he has available, considering his imminent marriage to the love of his life, Sunaina (Tena Desae). Sonny has his eye on a promising property now that his first venture, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel for the Elderly and Beautiful, has only a single remaining vacancy – posing a rooming predicament for fresh arrivals Guy (Richard Gere) and Lavinia (Tamsin Greig). Evelyn and Douglas (Judi Dench and Bill Nighy) have now joined the Jaipur workforce, and are wondering where their regular dates for Chilla pancakes will lead, while Norman and Carol (Ronald Pickup and Diana Hardcastle) are negotiating the tricky waters of an exclusive relationship, as Madge (Celia Imrie) juggles two eligible and very wealthy suitors. Perhaps the only one who may know the answers is newly installed co-manager of the hotel, Muriel (Maggie Smith), the keeper of everyone’s secrets. As the demands of a traditional Indian wedding threaten to engulf them all, an unexpected way forward presents itself.’

Filming is now underway in India.

Kristen Bell Gets A Veronica Mars Movie Poster & Pics

January 11, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

veronica-mars-poster1
A few days ago we got the first trailer for the Veronica Mars movie, and now it’s been followed up by a poster and a couple of images from the film. There’s been a lot of interest in the movie, as after talking about it for years, Kristen Bell and creator Rob Thomas finally got it made after a huge crowdfunding campaign.

The show followed Veronica (Kristen Bell) who ended up working as a PI after her best friend got killed. In the film she’s now a lawyer, but gets pulled back into the world of investigations when her old flame Logan (Jason Dohring) is accused of murder.

From what we’ve seen, it looks like it’ll have plenty to please fans, although we’ll have to see whether other people are interested when it’s released later this year.

Breaking Bad’s Jesse Plemons Up For Star Wars: Episode VII Lead?

January 11, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jesse-PlemonsIf you’re under 30 and male in Hollywood, your name has probably been linked to Star Wars: Episode VII at some point. The latest name to emerge is Jesse Plemons, who isn’t a household name, but has been seen in the likes of Breaking Bad, Friday Night Lights and The Master.

While many of the rumoured actors have only been very tenuously linked to the film, TheWrap says, “Plemons has already taped an audition that was well-received by those involved in the casting process, and he’ll be flying in to Los Angeles from Austin, Texas for a second audition that will bring him face-to-face with Abrams.”

There’s no news on who he might play, but the speculation is that it’s one of the leads, and many have already noted Plemons similarity to Luke Skywalker – which would make sense as Episode VII is supposed to be about Luke’s kids.

It appears Lucasfilm is getting close to officially deciding on the film’s leads, so hopefully we’ll hear about them soon.

Rebel Wilson Joins Amanda Seyfried In He’s F***ing Perfect

January 11, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

rebel-wilsonEver since we first heard about He’s F***ing Perfect, we’ve thought this was a film that needed Rebel Wilson in it. It seems she agrees as only a day after we heard she’s joined the cast of Night At The Museum 3, Variety reports that she’s signed up for Perfect.

She joins Amanda Seyfried in the movie, who will play a pessimistic woman who uses her social media skills to find out everything she can about the guys her friends date. When she meets her perfect match, she uses her web skills to turn herself into the right woman for him. Rebel Wilson is playing her carefree best friend, who tries to get her to stop all the online snooping/stalking.

Jake Szymanski is directing from a screenplay by Lauryn Kahn. Adam McKay and Will Ferrell are producing through their Gary Sanchez Productions company. It’s not clear when it will shoot.

New Endless Love Trailer – Alex Pettyfer & Gabriella Wilde are too much in love

January 10, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After Magic Mike, Alex Pettyfer is getting sexy again, this time in a remake of the 1981 movie, Endless Love. Now a new trailer for the movie has been released.

Brooke Shields and Martin Hewitt starred in the earlier version, which was about a young man and woman who fall desperately in love with one another. However the girl’s parent decide their passion is too strong and try to stop them from seeing each other, especially when they begin to uncover his past. However as their relationship get ever more extreme, they may have to eventually realise that is they don’t stop, their desire is going to kill both of them. The new version will apparently stick quite close to that plot.

The 1981 movie is also noted for marking Tom Cruise’s movie debut. The film’s out in the US in February.

First Look At Shailene Woodley & Ansel Elgort In The Fault in Our Stars

January 10, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Fault-in-Our-Stars-pic1At a first glance it looks like Shailene Woodley is going a little bit tomboy for The Fault In Our Stars – but the short hair in the first image from the movie above is actually more to do with the fact that she’s playing a cancer patient. The guy she’s holding is. Ansel Elgort.

The movie follows Hazel Grace Lancaster (Woodley), a teenager who joins a support group after being diagnosed with cancer. Hazel begins to fall for another cancer-stricken teenager Augustus (Elgort) from her group. Sam Trammell and Laura Dern are playing Hazel’s father and mother, with Nat Wolff playing Isaac, Augustus’ best friend.

The film, directed by Josh Boone, is due out this summer. You can also take a look at the first poster below.

Aubrey Plaza, Oliver Platt & Jeff Goldblum Join Mortdecai

January 10, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jeff-goldblumJohnny Depp has been long been attached to star in Mortdecai for quite a while, and now he has some new company as Aubrey Plaza, Oliver Platt and Jeff Goldblum have all joined the cast of the action comedy. They’ve been announced partway through production, as the London shoot was wrapped and filming has now moved to Los Angeles.

Plaza, Platt and Goldblum join Depp, as well as Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, Olivia Munn, Paul Bettany and Paul Whitehouse. David Koepp is directing the film from a screenplay by Eric Aronson.

The films sees debonair art dealer and part time rogue Charlie Mortdecai (Depp) juggling some angry Russians, the British Mi5, his impossibly leggy wife and an international terrorist. He must traverse the globe armed only with his good looks and special charm in a race to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold.

Casey Affleck Set To Take On The Boston Strangler With Mark Romanek Directing

January 10, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

casey-affleckJust over a year ago, Casey Affleck was rumoured to be considering a movie about the Boston Strangler. Now it’s been revealed that he’s still attached  to star and the project has found a director, with Mark Romanek in talks to take the job.

Affleck is set to play a Boston detective who tries to capture the elusive killer for over a year and a half in the early 1960s. Chuck MacLean wrote the script, which is said to be in the same vein as Seven and Zodiac, which fits the One Hour Photo and Never Let Me Go director’s penchant for darker material.

The film is based on the true story of Albert De Salvo, who was arrested and eventually confessed to the serial killings. However, there are some who still believe there was more than one killer and that Albert De Salvo was just a part of a larger operation.

It’s now clear when it might shoot.

Gerard Butler Up For Patrick Swayze’s Role In Point Break Remake

January 10, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Gerard Butler

Gerard Butler

For a while now, there’s been talk of a remake of Point Break. The last we heard Ericson Core signed up to direct, and now it’s moved forward once more, with THR reporting that Gerard Butler is in talks to star in the film.

Butler would play Bodhi, the role taken by Patrick Swayze in the original. Kathryn Bigelow directed the original film, which starred Keanu Reeves as a FBI agent who has to go undercover to get to the bottom of a string of bank robberies by a gang known as the Ex-Presidents. However he finds himself being tested when he realises he likes these people.

This new version will be set in the world of extreme sports, but will maintain the same tone as the original. This time the FBI agent will be infiltrating a criminal syndicate. It’s not clear when it might shoot.
