Thor: The Dark World’s Alan Taylor To Direct Terminator 5

September 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

alan-taylorAlan Taylor has gone from directing episodes of Game Of Thrones to taking on the might of Marvel as helmer of the upcoming Thor: The Dark World. Now he’s heading right back into genre territory as Variety reports he’s set to helm the firth Terminator movie.

There are still no plot details, although a June 26th, 2015 release date has been set and Laeta Kalorgridis and Patrick Lussier are writing the script. Arnold Schwarzenegger has said numerous time he’s going to be in the movie, although that’s never actually been confirmed by Paramount, which has partnered up to make the film.

It certainly bodes well for Thor: The Dark World, as presumably Taylor wouldn’t have been hired for such an important gig if Paramount hadn’t seen good things from his Marvel movie.

New Full-Length Gravity Trailer – Longest look yet at Alfonso Cuaron’s ‘Best space film ever’

September 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravirty already has one high-profile fan, as James Cameron was recently quoted by Variety as saying, “I was stunned, absolutely floored. I think it’s the best space photography ever done, I think it’s the best space film ever done, and it’s the movie I’ve been hungry to see for an awful long time. What is interesting is the human dimension. Alfonso and Sandra working together to create an absolutely seamless portrayal of a woman fighting for her life in zero gravity.”

That’s high praise indeed. Now we can get out best look yet with a new full-length trailer, which does a good job of starting out showing us the movie’s long continuous shots, before launching into an exciting montage from throughout the film.

The movie sees George Clooney and Sandra Bullock getting into immense amounts of trouble when their shuttle is hit by debris from a satellite the Russians have been trying to decommission. Bullock is sent flying off into space, with seemingly no way to get back to Earth – especially as there are communication troubles.

The movie recently premiered at the Venice Film Festival and will be in cinemas this October. [Read more…]

New Man of Tai Chi Trailer – Fresh look at Keanu Reeves’ directorial debut

September 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Keanu Reeves takes the directors chair for the first time with Man Of Tai Chi, and from the evidence of this trailer, he seems to have taken a lot of lessons from the Matrix for the movie visual style, as all it needs is a bit of bullet time.

Indeed Keanu had plenty of Matrix help with the fights, as he hired Yuen Woo-Ping, who was the action choreographer on the Wachowski directed movies, to put the battles together. The movie is about a young martial artist (Tiger Hu Chen) who gets lured into an underground tournament in Beijing. He’s promised the chance for greatness by the scheming Reeves, but only if he survives the no rules, no referees and no-holds barred battles.

The film should be out later this year. [Read more…]

Who’s got short shorts? Well, from the evidence of these photos, Channing Tatum does, and he’s also going forehead-to-forehead with Mark Ruffalo in these new pics from Foxcatcher. And that’s not even to mention Steven Carell’s magnificent fake nose!

The drama is based on the true tale of Olympic wrestler Dave Schultz (Mark Ruffalo), who was murdered by his paranoid schizophrenic friend Jon Du Pont (Steve Carell) in 1996. Du Pont was an heir to the Du Pont chemical company, who teamed up with Dave’s brother Mark (Tatum) to build a wrestling training facility known as ‘Team Foxcatcher’ on his sprawling Pennsylvania estate. The Schultzes tried to get Du Pont help for years before the murder. Sienna Miller plays Nancy, Doug Schultz’s wife,

Bennett Miller directs from a screenplay by Dan Futterman and E. Max Frye. It’s out in the US on December 20th, with a mid-January UK date set.

Daniel Radcliffe Gets Horny (Literally) In Three New Images From Horns

September 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Daniel Radcliffe has really got the horn, as you can see above. The movie the pics above and below are from, Horns, premieres tomorrow at the Toronto Film Festival, and to mark that EW has released three new images (to add to the first pic that came a few months ago).

And while might have something sticking out of his forehead, he’s still looking good.

Based on the best-selling novel by Joe Hill (son of Stephen King) and directed by Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes, Piranha 3D) from a screenplay by Keith Bunin (In Treatment), Horns is a supernatural thriller that follows Ig Perrish (Radcliffe), the number one suspect for the violent rape and murder of his girlfriend, Merrin (Juno Temple).

Hungover from a night of hard drinking, Ig awakens one morning to find horns starting to grow from his own head and soon realises their power drives people to confess their sins and give in to their most selfish and unspeakable impulses – an effective tool in his quest to discover the true circumstances of his late girlfriend’s tragedy and for exacting revenge on her killer. It’ll hit cinemas next year.

Ian McKellen To Play A Retired Sherlock Holmes In A Slight Trick of the Mind

September 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ian-mckellen-slideIan McKellen is already the older version of Michael Fassbender in the X-Men franchise, and now he’s gonna be an older Benedict Cumberbatch and Robert Downey Jr., as he’s signed up to play a retired Sherlock Holmes in A Slight Trick of the Mind.

The actor will play a retired Sherlock Holmes, who in 1947 is retired and lives in a sleepy Sussex village with his housekeeper and her amateur-sleuthing son. But far from living out a peaceful retirement, he is haunted by an unsolved case from fifty years ago. He remembers only fragments: a confrontation with an angry husband, a secret bond with his beautiful but unstable wife.

With his legendary mental powers on the wane, and without his old sidekick Watson, Holmes is faced with the toughest case of his life – a case that might finally reveal to him the mysteries of the human heart.

Jeffrey Hatcher (The Duchess) wrote the screenplay adaptation based on Mitch Cullin’s novel. The film will reunite McKellen with director Bill Condon, who directed the actor to an Oscar nomination in Gods & Monsters.

September 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

thor-the-dark-world-poster3
Thor: The Dark World hits cinemas in November, and to remind of that fact, Disney has released two new poster showing off the good guys and the baddies, with Chris Hemworth’s Thor striking a heroic pose (while Natalie Portman looks worryingly like a blow-up doll), and another featuring Christopher Eccleston’s evil Malekith unmasking.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself.  In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

‘Starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, and Jaimie Alexander with Rene Russo and Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” is directed by Alan Taylor, produced by Kevin Feige, from a story by Don Payne (credit not final) and screenplay by Christopher Yost and Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely (credit not final) and is based on Marvel’s classic Super Hero Thor, who first appeared in the comic book “Journey into Mystery “ #83 in August, 1962.’

The movie’s out October 30th 2013 in the UK, and November 8th in the US.

Benedict Cumberbatch Heads Off To The Lost City Of Z

September 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

benedict-cumberbatchThanks to Sherlock and Star Trek Into Darkness, Benedict Cumberbatch is ridiculously in demand, so much so that just last week he decided to drop out of Guillermo Del Toro’s Crimson Peak. Now we might know what film he wants to do instead (and no, it’s not Star Wars VII as completely speculative rumours would have you believe), as Deadline reports that he’s signed up for The Lost City Of Z.

James Gray is directing, resurrecting a project he’s been trying to get off the ground for years, but which fell apart after Gray got into a fight with Paramount over his pay and his star, Brad Pitt, went off to make Killing Them Softly.

Based on David Grann’s novel, which follows ‘Percy Fawcett (the role Cumberbatch is in talks to play), who in 1925 headed into the depths of the Amazon jungles in Brazil. Fawcett was there to map the jungle and, hobbled by malaria, he discovered a mythical city he called The Lost City Of Z. Scorned by peers who claimed that this ancient kingdom was a fraud, Fawcett headed back into the jungle with his son and one other, braving the dangers of disease, insects, snakes, poison darts and other hazards to reinforce his discovery. None of them were ever seen again.’

Pitt still attached to produce, and it appear Gray has the money he needs to get the film made.
