Brad Pitt Shows Off His Massive Hat In The Counsellor

July 30, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Counsellor-pic2Brad Pitt is making quite a big fashion statement in the new image above from Ridley Scott’s The Counsellor. Indeed OTT fashion seems to be one of the movie’s big things, as evidence from the pics below, which include a rather cute Cameron Diaz and Javier Bardem looking, umm, unique.

Directed by Ridley Scott from a script by Cormac McCarthy, the film stars Michael Fassbender, Penélope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, Javier Bardem, Brad Pitt and John Leguizamo. The Counsellor tells the story of a lawyer (Fassbender), who finds himself in over his head when he gets involved in drug trafficking. And as this teaser shows, it’s all going to be looking extremely slick (and with pet cheetahs, which is a bonus).

It hits cinemas in October.

Zac Efron Deals With A Dying JFK In First Official Parkland Pics

July 30, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Parkland-pic1With the 50th anniversary of JFK’s assassination coming up in November, it’s little surprise a movie like Parkland is due out soon, which focusses on the hospital the President was taken to after he was shot by Lee Harvey Oswald (and where Oswald went when he was killed).

The movie has a great cast including Paul Giamatti, Colin Hanks, Zac Efron, Billy Bob Thornton, Jacki Weaver, Marcia Gay Harden, many of whom are included in the first pics from the film, which have arrived courtesy of USA Today.

Billy Bob Thornton plays the head of Dallas’ Secret Service in the film, with Paul Giamatti as Abraham Zapruder, the man who took some infamous footage of the assassination (which many will remember from JFK). Marcia Gay Harden is the head nurse at the hospital, with Zac Efron as a rookie doctor who has to work on the President. Jeremy Strong plays Lee Harvey Oswald.

The movie is out in the US September 20th, with a November 8th UK release currently set.

Bradley Cooper & Christian Bale Go 1970s In The First Official American Hustle Pics

July 30, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

american-hustle-pic1David O. Russell returns to cinemas later this year with American Hustle, which reunites him with his Silver Linings Playbook star Bradley Cooper, along with his The Fighter actors Christian Bale and Amy Adams.

A few set pics of the actors get their 1970s on have popped up online, but now we can get our first official look at the movie with the images above and below, showing us all three actors, with Bale in particular being almost unrecognisable.

The movie is based on a true story and follows Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), a con artist who, along with his lover and accomplice Sydney (Amy Adams), are forced by an FBI agent (Bradley Cooper) to help with his ABSCAM conspiracy case in the 1970s. That ended with a US Senator and five Congressmen were convicted on corruption charges.

David O. Russell talked to USA Today about recreating the 1970s, saying, “That era was very much like our era now. The economy was not in a good place and people had to struggle to figure out how to reinvent themselves.”

He also spoke about shooting in Boston during the Boston Marathon bombings in April, which shut down production for a couple of days.”We were shooting in an outlying area that day,” he says. “Christian Bale’s wife was the first one to get through to him (on set). It was very surreal. It was very upsetting.”

Sigourney Weaver Up For Mortal Instruments Sequel City of Ashes

July 30, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Sigourney-WeaverWith many young adult novel adaptations failing at the box office, you’d have thought the backers of The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones might be hedging their bets on whether a second instalment will ever be made. However they must be pretty confident as they’re already casting City Of Ashes.

THR reports that Sigourney Weaver is in negotiations to star in the film.

The movies are based on Cassandra Clare’s novels, which follow a young woman named Clary Fray (Lily Collins) who learns that she comes from a long line of Shadowhunters, a group that tracks down and kills demons, vampires, faeries, and other mystical creatures.

Sigourney Weaver is in talks to portray the leader of these Shadowhunters, who is on a personal mission to find the man who killed her son. Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower and Aidan Turner are all expected to reprise their roles in the sequel, along with most of the rest of the cast.

However all these sequel plans do rely on City Of Bones being a success when it’s released towards the end of August.

Disney Teams With Harvey Weinstein For Artemis Fowl Adaptation

July 30, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

artemis-fowl-book-coverWhen Disney and the Weinstein brothers – founders of Miramax – parted company in a rather messy way in 2005, most people thought that would be the last time Harvey Weinstein would ever work with the House Of Mouse. However it’s now been revealed they’re teaming for a planned film version of Eoin Colfer’s Artemis Fowl’s books.

It’s far from the first time a Fowl book has been mooted. Indeed one of the reasons we’ve haven’t had one before was due to the Weinstein-Disney break-up. Miramax owned the rights to the books, but they went to Disney when the two sides parted. However the company didn’t do much with them.

Now it’s back in motion though. The live-action feature will be based on the first and second installments in the best-selling children’s fiction series. Artemis Fowl is about a 12-year-old Artemis who is a millionaire, a genius – and above all, a criminal mastermind. But Artemis doesn’t know what he’s taken on when he kidnaps a fairy (Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon Unit) to harness her magic to save his family. These aren’t the fairies of the bedtime stories – they’re dangerous.

Michael Goldenberg (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix) has been hired to write the screenplay, with Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal set to executive produce.

Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn commented,”Harvey is one of the preeminent producers in the industry, with impeccable taste and creative instincts. I had a wonderful time working with Harvey during my tenure at Warner Bros., and I’m very happy to continue that relationship here at Disney.”

Harvey Weinstein also had something to say: “If you would have told me five years ago I would be producing a project with Disney I would have thought you were crazy. I feel as though everything is coming full circle considering Bob De Niro and Jane Rosenthal brought me this book while I was still at Miramax and within hours I told them I wanted the rights to the film. I am thrilled to be reunited with Alan Horn who I worked with while he was at Warner Bros. and we had tremendous success with The Aviator, Starsky & Hutch and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It is also exciting to partner with friends Alan Bergman, Sean Bailey and of course Bob Iger who has been incredibly generous to me over the years. This is a special project for me because my children absolutely love this book. This story is for everyone and there is no one better than Disney to make a film that will excite people young and old.”

There’s no news on when we might see the movie.

New Elysium Clip – Matt Damon is becoming bionic

July 30, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Much of the promotion of Elysium has centred on Matt Damon wearing a strange suit of armour that allows him to do things he normally couldn’t. Now a new clip has emerged letting us see Damon’s character just after he’s got that armour, is getting used to have the tech attached to him.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.’

Neill Blomkamp’s film hits US cinemas on August 9th and the UK on August 26th. [Read more…]

New Insidious: Chapter 2 International Trailer – More torment for Rose Byrne and Patrick Wilson

July 30, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Director James Wan is a busy man. The Conjuring is currently riding high in the US box office charts, and in less than two months time his next creep-fest, Insidious: Chapter 2, is due to hit cinemas.

The cast of the sleeper hit first film return, with Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne and Barbara Hershey back for more creepy adventures from ‘The Further’, a strange place that first became part of their lives when young Dalton fell into a coma, as well as uncovering a childhood secret that that has left them dangerously connected to the spirit world.

The second film picks up just after the first ended, with the trailer suggesting there’ll be plenty more mysteries. The film hits cinemas September 13th. [Read more…]

New Plot Details Revealed About Johnny Depp’s Transcendence

July 30, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

transcendence-preview-pic1Wally Pfister has spent a big chunk of the last few years working with Christopher Nolan (as his cinematographer), and it seemed like the Batman director’s infamous secrecy had rubbed off on him, as he’s been keeping his cards pretty close to his chest about his directorial debut, Transcendence. All we’ve really known is that it’s about artificial intelligence.

Now Screen Crush has slightly more, although it’s not exactly an extensive synopsis. It says, ‘Will Caster, forefather of A.I., has his consciousness uploaded onto the internet.

‘Once there, is it really Will who is interacting with humanity in order to make things better, or a darker sinister clone bent on the termination of the world as we know it?’

It certainly sounds intriguing.

Johnny Depp plays Caster, with Rebecca Hall as his wife and Paul Bettany as a colleague. Cillian Murphy, Kate Mara, Clifton Collins Jr., Cole Hauser and Morgan Freeman also star. It’ll be in cinemas next April.

Eddie Murphy Developing Beverly Hills Cop 4 With Ghost Protocol Writers

July 30, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Beverly-hills-cop-II-posterA couple of years ago there was talk of Eddie Murphy making Beverly Hills Cop 4, but then they decided to try and make a TV series instead, concentrating on the son of Murphy’s Axel Foley. However CBS decided they didn’t make to make it into a series after they commissioned a pilot.

Now plans for Beverly Hills Cop 4 are back in motion, with Deadline reporting that screenwriters Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec (Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol) have been hired to write the script and Eddie Murphy is set to reprise his role as Axel Foley.

Although the Beverly Hills Cop pilot wasn’t picked up, Paramount was reportedly intrigued by the interest garnered by the TV show, which tested very well and featured Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley and Brandon T. Jackson as his son, Aaron Foley, a rookie cop at the Beverly Hills Police Department. The thought is that Beverly Hills Cop 4 will follow a similar father-son dynamic.

The earlier incarnation of Beverly Hills Cop 4 had Brett Ratner attached to direct from a script by Derek Haas and Michael Brandt (Wanted), Although none of them are involved anymore.

The Wolverine Tops The US Box Office With $55 Million

July 28, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

wolverine-teaser-poster2The Wolverine has taken the US box office crown with a $55 million opening. While that’s not a bad take, and certainly better than recent disappointments such as The Lone Ranger and Pacific Rim, it’s still being seen as rather soft, as most had expected it to take $60 million plus.

There was more to cheer globally though as the mutant movie took an impressive $141 million, suggesting that even if it doesn’t become a huge hit in North America, it’ll still be a massive success around the globe. With the film costing $120 million – versus the $200 million plus of other recent failures – it may suggest Hollywood needs to rethink how much it spends on some of its movies.

The only other film making its first appearance in the top 10 is Fruitvale Station, which added 1,000 screens (up from 34 screen last weekend), allowing it to take $4.6 million, placing it in 10th spot on the chart. The film, based on the true story of Oscar Grant, has got massive amounts of attention in the US following the aquittal of George Zimmerman, who shot and killed African-American Trayvon Martin, helping Fruitvale Station to find a larger audience than it might have otherwise.

Take a look below for the US box office top 10 for the weekend of July 26th-28th.

Rank Title Weekend Gross (millions) Total Gross to date (millions)
1 The Wolverine $55.0 $55.0
2 The Conjuring $22.1 $83.8
3 Despicable Me 2 $16.0 $306.4
4 Turbo $13.3 $55.7
5 Grown Ups 2 $11.5 $101.6
6 Red 2 $9.4 $35.0
7 Pacific Rim $7.5 $84.0
8 The Heat $6.8 $141.2
9 R.I.P.D. $5.8 $24.3
