Wes Bentley Is The Latest To Join Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar

July 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

wes-bentleyAt this rate there won’t be a single speaking role in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar that isn’t filled by a fairly well-known name. The likes of Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Michael Caine, Bill Irwin, Casey Affleck, Mackenzie Foy, John Lithgow and Topher Grace are already onboard, and now THR reports that American Beauty and Hunger Games star Wes Bentley has bagged a ‘meaty supporting role’ in the movie.

However, as Nolan is being predictably secretive about Interstellar, there’s absolutely no info on exactly what Bentley will be doing in the movie.

The movie revolves around a journey into outer space that pushes humanity’s knowledge of science and technology. The film was initially inspired based on the scientific theories of Kip S. Thorne, who believes that wormholes exist and can be used for time travel. Christopher Nolan is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with his brother Jonathan Nolan.

The film will shoot later this year, with a November 7th, 2014 release date already set.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead & Michael Sheen Join Jeremy Renner In Kill the Messenger

July 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Mary-Elizabeth-WinsteadA few weeks ago Jeremy Renner got his first co-stars in the thriller Kill The Messenger, Rosemarie Dewitt and Paz Vega. Now the cast has swelled massively with a slew of great names, as Collider reports that Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Michael Sheen, Andy Garcia, Tim Blake Nelson, Robert Patrick, Barry Pepper and Oliver Platt have all signed on for the movie.

The movie is based on the true story of Gary Webb, a San Jose Mercury News reporter who helped expose the CIA’s involvement in a drug smuggling operation with Nicaraguan rebels in the 1980s. In an effort to discredit the writer, the agency launched a smear campaign before the journalist tragically his own life.

There’s no news on exactly who the cast members will play.

Shooting has already begun, with Michael Cuesta directing from a screenplay by Peter Landesman, which is adapted from Gary Webb’s book Dark Alliance: The CIA, the Contras, and the Crack Cocaine Explosion, as well as Nick Schou’s Kill the Messenger: How the CIA’s Crack-Cocaine Controversy Destroyed Journalist Gary Webb.

Melissa McCarthy In Talks For Paul Feig’s Spy Film Susan Cooper

July 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Melissa-McCarthyMelissa McCarthy broke out with Paul Feig’s Bridesmaids and the actress and director recently reunited for The Heat. Now McCarthy is sticking with the director as TheWrap reports that she’s in talks to take one of the lead roles in Feig’s Susan Cooper.

The film is described as a James Bond-inspired spy comedy, but with a female lead. While Feig is known for broad comedy, Susan Cooper isn’t a parody, but is instead said to be a gritty and realistic comedy, which is heavily influenced by Martin Campbell’s Casino Royale.

The film is said to centre on two lead characters, although there’s no news on whether McCarthy is in talks to play the title character or if she’ll be the other lead.

The film is being set up as a potential franchise, so this could work out well for the actress. The one thing standing in the way at the moment is her schedule, as she’s soon due to go back into production on her sitcom, Mike & Molly. Hopefully she’ll be able to sort it out though.

James McAvoy Joins Daniel Radcliffe In New Frankenstein Movie

July 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

james-mcavoy-wantedA couple of weeks ago it was revealed that Toby Kebbell and Jack Huston were testing for the role of Dr. Victor Frankenstein in Fox’s planned new take on Mary Shelley’s classic tale. However neither of them scored the role, as Deadline now reports that James McAvoy is in the middle of making a deal for the movie.

He’ll join Daniel Radcliffe, who’s long been attached to play the servant Igor in the movie (it’s still no clear if Igor has been made a more central role in this take, or whether Radcliffe just wants to be a hunchback).

Chronicle’s Max Landis wrote the script for this new take on Frankenstein, with Paul McGuigan (Push) set to direct. The film promises a new take on the story, putting a sci-fi spin on the tale a creature that is produced by a scientific experiment.

The studio is hoping to move forward as soon as possible, as there are various other Frankenstein movies in development all over Hollywood – and that’s not to mention the more modern I Frankenstein, starring Aaron Eckhart, which is out early next year.

New Poster For Disney’s Frozen Emerges

July 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

frozen-teaser-quadDisney is hoping that the audiences that flocked to Tangled will like their latest fairytale adventure, Frozen, when it opens this coming December. Now a new US quad poster has emerged, which is certainly a nice contrast to the balmy summer weather.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Walt Disney Animation Studios, the studio behind “Tangled” and “Wreck-It Ralph,” presents “Frozen,” a stunning big-screen comedy adventure. Fearless optimist Anna (voice of Kristen Bell) sets off on an epic journey—teaming up with rugged mountain man Kristoff (voice of Jonathan Groff) and his loyal reindeer Sven—to find her sister Elsa (voice of Idina Menzel), whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom of Arendelle in eternal winter. Encountering Everest-like conditions, mystical trolls and a hilarious snowman named Olaf, Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom.

‘The film is directed by Chris Buck (“Tarzan,” “Surf’s Up”) and Jennifer Lee (screenwriter, “Wreck-It Ralph”), and produced by Peter Del Vecho (“Winnie the Pooh,” “The Princess and the Frog”). Featuring music from Tony® winner Robert Lopez (“The Book of Mormon,” “Avenue Q”) and Kristen Anderson-Lopez (“In Transit”), “Frozen” is in UK cinemas in 3D on December 6, 2013.’

See The Pics Of Benedict Cumberbatch Officiating At A Gay Wedding

July 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

benedict-cumberbatch-gay-wedding1
Last week we reported that Benedict Cumberbatch wasn’t going to Comic-Con as he’d agreed to officiate at the same-sex wedding of a friend in Ibiza. Now some images from the event have emerged, showing Cumberbatch doing his marriage duties for Seth Cummings and Rob Rinder, as well as enjoying himself with his shirt off afterwards.

Before he headed to Ibiza, he told Vulture, “Of course, I’m going to make a joke after it, ‘I do weddings. Next will be children’s parties and bat mitzvahs,’ if it goes well. It’s a mainly Jewish and gay audience, so hopefully they will be lenient towards me.”

The pics below were shared by entrepreneur and Conservative grandee Ivan Massow, who was also at the wedding.

New A Single Shot Trailer – Sam Rockwell is getting dramatic, and armed!

July 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Sam Rockwell is moving away from comedy with A Single Shot, a rather more dramatic role than we’re used to from him.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘A Single Shot brings together a wealth of indie stalwarts, including Sam Rockwell, William H. Macy, Melissa Leo and Jeffrey Wright, to paint a tense portrait of John Moon, a man attempting to win back his estranged family while desperately outrunning an accidental crime. Director David M. Rosenthal returns to the Festival with this ominously atmospheric and suspenseful backwoods tale of circumstance, based on Matthew F. Jones’s 1996 novel. After the loss of his family farm, John Moon is a desperate man. A master hunter, his ability to poach game in-season or out is the only thing that stands between him and the soup kitchen line. Until Moon trespasses on the wrong land, hears a rustle in the brush, and fires a single fateful shot.’

A Single Shot is on iTunes and VOD on August 20th in the US, and in theaters September 20th. No UK dates is currently set. [Read more…]

New Filth Trailer Debuts – James McAvoy turns corrupt cop

July 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Despite the success of Trainspotting, Irvine Welsh has generally been seen as a difficult author to adapt for the big screen. However, James McAvoy is having a go, playing the lead in a film version of Filth, which was written by Welsh and Jon S. Baird, who also directs. Now a new trailer has landed, which you can watch right here.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Scheming Bruce Robertson (James McAvoy), a bigoted and corrupt policeman, is in line for a promotion and will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Enlisted to solve a brutal murder and threatened by the aspirations of his colleagues, including Ray Lennox (Jamie Bell), Bruce sets about ensuring their ruin, right under the nose of unwitting Chief Inspector Toal. As he turns his colleagues against one another by stealing their wives and exposing their secrets, Bruce starts to lose himself in a web of deceit that he can no longer control. His past is slowly catching up with him, and a missing wife, a crippling drug habit and suspicious colleagues start to take their toll on his sanity. The question is: can he keep his grip on reality long enough to disentangle himself from the filth?

‘James McAvoy (X-Men: First Class) gives the performance of his career and he is joined by a fantastic cast, including Jamie Bell (The Adventures of Tintin), Imogen Poots (Fright Night), Oscar winning actor, Jim Broadbent (The Iron Lady), Joanne Froggatt (‘Downton Abbey’), Shirley Henderson (Trainspotting), Eddie Marsan (The Illusionist), Emun Elliott (Prometheus), Martin Compston (Sweet Sixteen), Shauna Macdonald (The Descent) and Gary Lewis (Gangs of New York).’

It reaches UK cinemas October 4th. [Read more…]

Stephen Fung To Direct Remake Of Van Damme’s Kickboxer

July 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

kickboxer-poster-01It seems everyone has suddenly remembered Jean-Claude Van Damme’s old movies, as just yesterday it was revealed James McTeigue has signed up to direct a reboot of his 1988 breakout hit Bloodsport. Now Deadline reports that Radar Pictures is developing a remake of JCVD’s 1989 flick, Kickboxer.

Hong Kong filmmaker Stephen Fung (Tai Chi Hero) has signed up to direct, working from a screenplay by Jim McGrath and Dimitri Logothetis. The original Kickboxer was about Kurt Sloane (Van Damme), a master in the art of Muay Thai kickboxing, who takes on the brutal opponent who severely injured his brother.

Casting is currently underway, with the current plan being to shoot either this autumn or in early 2014. Kickboxer spawned four straight-to-video sequels, none of which starred Jean-Claude Van Damme, so you can understand why they might want to relaunch the franchise..
