Amazing Single-Shot Gravity Trailer & Clip Has Sandra Bullock Catapulted Into Space

July 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Alfonso Cuaron impressed many with the impressive tracking shots in Children Of Men. With Gravity he’s promised to take that even further. Indeed he expressed a little frustration with the first trailer for the movie, which had quick cuts he felt didn’t really represent the movie.

Now a new trailer and clip have emerged that really show us the amazing single-shot philosophy. The trailer shows the moment when astronauts Sandra Bullock and George Clooney’s spacewalk goes terribly wrong. Their shuttle is hit by debris from a satellite the Russians have been trying to decommission, which sends Bullock flying off into space – and it’s all done with no cuts whatsoever.

The clip meanwhile is from after that moment, when Bullock is drifting through space, completely untethered and apparently with no way home. It certainly suggest this is going to be one to watch when it’s released this October.

Driven from their homes and dispersed across the land, this band of Ronin must seek the help of Kai (Reeves)—a half-breed they once rejected—as they fight their way across a savage world of mythic beasts, shape-shifting witchcraft and wondrous terrors. As this exiled, enslaved outcast becomes their most deadly weapon, he will transform into the hero who inspires this band of outnumbered rebels to seize eternity.’

New Posters For Saving Mr. Banks, Rush and Mr. Peabody & Sherman

July 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

saving-mr-banks-poster1
Some rather cool new posters have emerged, including the very first for Disney’s Saving Mr. Banks, along with pics for DreamWorks Animation’s Mr. Peabody & Sherman and the F1 drama Rush.

Here’s the synopsis for Saving Mr Banks: ‘When Walt Disney’s daughters begged him to make a movie of their favorite book, P.L. Travers’ “Mary Poppins,” he made them a promise—one that he didn’t realize would take 20 years to keep. In his quest to obtain the rights, Walt comes up against a curmudgeonly, uncompromising writer who has absolutely no intention of letting her beloved magical nanny get mauled by the Hollywood machine. But, as the books stop selling and money grows short, Travers reluctantly agrees to go to Los Angeles to hear Disney’s plans for the adaptation.

‘For those two short weeks in 1961, Walt Disney pulls out all the stops. Armed with imaginative storyboards and chirpy songs from the talented Sherman brothers, Walt launches an all-out onslaught on P.L. Travers, but the prickly author doesn’t budge. He soon begins to watch helplessly as Travers becomes increasingly immovable and the rights begin to move further away from his grasp.

‘It is only when he reaches into his own childhood that Walt discovers the truth about the ghosts that haunt her, and together they set Mary Poppins free to ultimately make one of the most endearing films in cinematic history.’ It’s due out in December.

Rush is set in the 1970s, with Chris Hemsworth playing James Hunt with Danie Bruhl as fellow Formula 1 driver Niki Lauda. Hunt was a dashing playboy with a wild social life, whose exploits off the track filled more column inches than what he did while racing. Lauda meanwhile was a quieter figure, but still an amazing and driven racer. Their rivalry became legendary. Ron Howard directs. It’ll be out in September.

Mr. Peabody & Sherman is based on the classic 1950s animated series, about a genius canine ,Mr. Peabody, and his adopted human son Sherman, who spring into action when Sherman uses their time machine without permission and moments in history begin to be changed. It’s due out March 2014.

First Look At Andre Benjamin As Jimi Hendrix In All Is By My Side

July 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

All-Is-By-My-Side-pic1
For years there’s been talk about making a biopic about Jimi Hendrix, but it’s only now that it’s happening, with André Benjamin (aka André 3000) in the lead role. Now the first image from the film, called All Is By My Side, has been released, in connection with the fact it will premiere later this year at TIFF.

It’s going to be a slightly unusual musical biopic though, as the production isn’t officially backed by Hendrix’s estate and doesn’t have the rights to any of his songs. Instead the movie will mainly use tunes by other people that Hendrix covered, such as Hound Dog and Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, to get around this.

The film will premiere at the festival this September.

Paul Greengrass Up To Direct The Trial of the Chicago 7

July 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

paul-greengrassFive years ago, Steven Spielberg was circling The Trial of the Chicago 7, but then in August 2008 he decided against helming the movie. Since then the project has been stuck in limbo, but now Deadline reports Bourne Ultimatum helmer Paul Greengrass is in final talks to direct the film, based on Aaron Sorkin’s screenplay.

The film is based on an infamous 1969 trial of seven protesters at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, who were charged with conspiracy to incite the violence that broke out and made national headlines. The trial lasted for months, with several prominent Americans called to testify on behalf of the Chicago 7, such as folk singers Phil Ochs, Judy Collins and Arlo Guthrie, writers Norman Mailer and Allen Ginsberg, and activists Timothy Leary and Jesse Jackson. In February 1970, the Chicago 7 were found innocent of conspiracy charges.

Greengras had flirted with the project in 2008, but it’s only now that he’s seriously thinking about signing on to direct it. DreamWorks is backing the movie, with the current plan being to star shooting in January on a budget of $20-$30 million.

Topher Grace Goes Interstellar For Christopher Nolan

July 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

topher-graceChristopher Nolan is lining up a truly impressive cast for Interstellar, and now he’s got one more name to add to the list, as Topher is in negotiations to join the growing cast, according to TheWrap.

As with all the other actors who’ve signed up, there are no details about who Topher will play (Nolan doesn’t like telling anyone anything), but he joins a cast that already includes Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Michael Caine, Bill Irwin, Casey Affleck, Mackenzie Foy, and John Lithgow.

Christopher Nolan is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with his brother Jonathan Nolan, which is based on the scientific theories of Kip S. Thorne, who believes that wormholes exist and can be used for time travel. The movie is said to revolve around a journey into outer space that pushes humanity’s knowledge of science and technology. The secrecy around the project means we have no idea who Lithgow will play.

Sony Pictures Plans Gran Turismo Movie

July 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

gran-turismo-game-coverWith Fast & Furious becoming more popular with each instalment and DreamWorks unleashing Need For Speed early next year, Sony has decided to get in on the car racing action with its own automotive video game adaptation, Gran Turismo. They’ve brought Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti (Fifty Shades of Grey) on board to produce a movie version of the popular titles, according to TheWrap.

The games don’t follow a specific storyline, but feature 140 different cars from around the globe, taking racers to 11 different racing courses. The series is one of Sony’s best selling titles to date, with more than 70 million copies sold. The lack of a story leaves things wide open, but the company obviously hopes name recognition will help.

As well as Gran Turismo and Need For Speed, Legendary Pictures is working on a deal with Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and Simon Crane to bring Hot Wheels to the big screen.

Rosemarie DeWitt Signs Up For Poltergeist Remake

July 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

rosemarie-dewittA Poltergeist remake has been in the works for a couple of years, but now it finally looks like it’s moving forward with the news that Rosemarie Dewitt has signed up to star. The search for a male lead is currently under way, according to Deadline.

News of the the project first emerged back in February 2011, when MGM announced a spate of potential remakes and other projects, after the studio came out of bankruptcy. It took a while to sort out, but in March Monster House filmmaker Gil Kenan signed up to direct from a screenplay provided by David Lindsay-Abaire (Oz: The Great and Powerful, Rise of the Guardians). No story details have been released, so it’s not clear how close to the 1982 original it will be. Sam Raimi and Nathan Kahane are producing.

The original Poltergeist, directed by Tobe Hooper from a screenplay by Steven Spielberg, Michael Grais, and Mark Victor, centered on a family haunted by evil entities that were trying to claim control of their daughter. Craig T. Nelson, JoBeth Williams, and Dominique Dunne starred.

Rosemarie DeWitt most recently starred in Promised Land and Touchy Feely. The actress signed on for the female lead in Kill the Messenger last month.
