While the weak box office opening of Jack The Giant Slayer may give Hollywood a bit of pause over future fairytale/fantasy movies, at the moment there’s no letup in the line of film in development all over Hollywood taking on classic family-friendly tales. There are already a couple of Robin Hood movies in the works, and now Deadline reports that Dreamworks is planning another, called Merry Men.
Scott Waugh (Act Of Valor, the upcoming Need For Speed) is attached to direct, with Brad Ingelsby writing the screenplay. The title is a hint this won’t just be about the green-tighted hero robbing from the rich to give to the poor, and will instead have a more Ocean’s 11 vibe, giving more time to Robin’s cohorts, such as Little John, Friar Tuck, Maid Marian and Alan-A-Dale.
As Waugh still has to shoot Need For Speed, it’s very eearly days for Merry Men, so don’t expect it for a few years yet.
With the X-Men: Days Of Future Past shoot approaching fast, director Bryan Singer is busy putting the final touches to the cast. In the last few weeks the news has been mainly about the slew of old X-Men who will be returning to the franchise, such as Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, and Shawn Ashmore (with Halle Berry likely if a few contract details can be sorted).
First it was called 1952 and then when George Clooney came onboard a couple of months ago, it changed its name to Tomorrowland, but director Brad Bird and writer Damon Lindelof have been keeping their cards close to their chest about the plot of their upcoming sci-fi project.
Bryan Singer’s Jack The Giant Slayer is the first mega-budget movie of 2013, but if Hollywood was hoping it would break the box office bank and point to a bumper year ahead, they’ll be disappointed. The film took $28.1 million in its first weekend in US cinemas, which isn’t a complete disaster, but considering the movie cost nearly $200 million to make, it’s now going to have to rely on becoming a major success outside North America if it hopes to make its money back.
It’s always annoying when someone makes a comment which, while not actively homophobic, still casts something gay as the sort of disgusting thing nobody would want anything to do with. That certainly seems true of Miles Teller, star of Project X and Footloose, who seems to think kissing a guy is something that’s just for comedy, and even then you’d better not use tongue.
On March 26th, the US Supreme Court is due to hear a case which will decide whether California’s Proposition 8 – which barred gay people from marrying in the state – is constitutional. It’s one of two major cases on gay unions (the other related to DOMA, which bars the federal government from recognising same sex unions) SCOTUS will be hearing in the next few weeks.

With a high-profile remake on the way, many fans of Evil Dead had presumed that meant we’d never get another instalment of Sam Raimi’s original series. However Sam doesn’t seem to think the do-over should stop him from making an Evil Dead 4, as
