Two Mothers Trailer – Naomi Watts and Robin Wright want to sleep with each other’s sons

February 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A movie about two women who want to sleep with each other’s sons sounds like it’s either going to be something sleazy or some sort of grossout comedy, but Two Mothers is actually based on a novella by Nobel laureate Doris Lessing.

The movie sees Naomi Watts and Robin Wright as two women who’ve been friends for decades and live next to one another on an Aussie beach. However their idyllic but lonely lives get a little more complicated when the women start eyeing each others sons – Xavier Samuel and James Frecheville – with more than maternal affection.

Anne Fontaine’s film certainly looks intriguing, although whether it can handle its tricky subject matter is yet to be seen.

New The Company You Keep Trailer – Shia LaBeouf is on Robert Redford’s trail

February 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

At festival screenings last year, there was a fair amount of praise for The Company You Keep, which marks Robert Redford’s first on-screen appearance since 2007’s Lions For Lambs.

He play a former Weather Underground militant who’s been wanted by the FBI for 30 years, but is forced out of hiding and on the lam when a young journalist (Shia LaBeouf) uncovers his true identity. The script is adapted from the novel of the same name by Neil Gordon.

It hits US cinemas in late April, with a June 8th UK release set. [Read more…]

New Trailer For The Host – Sci-fi & action in the Stephenie Meyer adaptation

February 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Previous looks at The Host have deliberately made it look like the new Twilight, which isn’t surprising considering it’s also based on a novel by Stephenie Meyers. However this new trailer allows it to be its own beast, playing up the sci-fi and action more than the romance.

In The Host, our world has been invaded by an unseen enemy. Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact. Most of humanity has succumbed, including Soarise Ronan’s main character, Melanie Stryder. However while normally the human is completely subdued by their host, in Melanie’s case, her personality flashes through, intriguing her Host, known as Wanda, and setting them off on a quest to find the last free humans. Ronan, Jake Abel, Max Irons and William Hurt star in the movie.

The film hits cinemas in both the UK and US on March 29th.

Bella Beathcote & Penelope Mitchell Head For Downers Grove

February 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

bella-heathcoteBella Heatcote was one of the best things in Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows and has also been seen in In Time and Killing Them Softly. Now she’s got a new role, as Variety reports that she and Penelope Mitchell have joined Lucas Till, Jill Hennessy and Kevin Zegers in Derick Martini’s indie thriller, The Curse Of Downers Grove.

The movie is about a supposed curse that takes the life of one high school student every year, and a high school seniors growing paranoia that it might be them. The script comes from Hick helmer Martini and Bret Easton Ellis, based on Michael Hornburg’s 2001 novel.

There’s no news on exactly who Heathcote and Mitchell will play, although presumably they’ll be students at the school. The plan is to shoot this spring.

Steve Carell Going To An FBI Wedding

February 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

steve-carellSteve Carell is going to have a busy year, as he has numerous movies coming out – The Way Way Back, Despicable Me 2, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, Foxcatcher and Anchorman 2 – as well as having numerous other movies in the works.

Now Deadline reports that he’s got another one, as they say he’s attached to a currently untitled ‘FBI wedding comedy’. The script was originally written by Phil Alden Robinson (Field of Dreams, Sneakers) but is now being rewritten by TV vet David Flebotte (Desperate Housewives, Raising Hope).

There’s no info on the plot, but the FBI and weddings are two of Hollywood’s favourite things, so presumably they reckon mixing them up will end up with a hit.

We don’t know when it might shoot either – and it may have to wait a while as Carell is a very busy man.

First Glimpse Of Amazing Spider-man 2 Mask

February 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

amazing-Spider-Man-2-EyeThe Amazing Spider-man 2 has been shooting for the last week or so. Director Marc Webb has been tweeting various teaser pics from the set, such as a strange Oscorp machine and various others props and bits of sets. Now he’s tweeted the first look at a new Spider-man mask.

Here’s the tweet: ‘telly.com/2T2GDJ – Day 9. #thebettertoseeyouwith’ — Marc Webb (@MarcW) February 14, 2013′

If you click the link it takes you to a short video, which includes the shot above, suggesting the Spidey mask is getting very dark. Or as it’s black, could it somehow be linked into rumours Venom will make some sort of appearance in the movie? It’s also been noted it’s a smaller eye than in the first movie, suggesting either a complete redesign or that this isn’t Spidey himself.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The sequel to last year’s critical and box office hit The Amazing Spider-Man, the film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Shailene Woodley, Dane DeHaan, Colm Feore, Paul Giamatti, and Sally Field.

‘In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.’

It’s due out May 2nd 2014.

Terence Stamp Joining Anchorman 2 As A Media Mogul?

February 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

terrence-stampAnchorman 2 is gearing up to shoot (last we heard it was going to start filming next month) and now AintItCool suggests Terence Stamp might join the movie.

The website got the info from the actor himself at a screening of Song For Marion. Stamp told them he’d been chatting with “Will Ferrell’s people”, and that he’s up for playing a “Rupert Murdoch-type figure” in the movie. Terrence added that he’d love to do it, but as yet there hasn’t been a formal offer.

There’s been little news on the plot for Anchorman 2, although we do know Ferrell, Paul Rudd and Steve Carrell are returning, with Kristen Wiig recently signing up.

At the same event, Stamp also mentioned that he’s written a “loose sequel” to The Limey. However we’re unlikely ever to see it as the project halted when both Soderbergh and Christie retired from the business, and he isn’t sure if we’ll ever see it.

Chris Hemsworth & Michael Mann Team For A Cyber Thriller

February 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Chris Hemsworth

Chris Hemsworth

We haven’t had a film from Michael Man since 2009’s Public Enemies. While he’s been developing movies such as Big Tuna and Go Like Hell, it appears his next film will team him with Chris Hemsworth for a currently untitled thriller, according to Variety. Legendary Pictures (The Dark Knight, Godzilla) is backing the film.

Unfortunately not much is known about the story, except that it is set in the world of cyber threats and attacks. There are no details on exactly who Hemsworth might play.

Michael Mann is co-writing the script with Morgan Davis Foehl, which they have been developing for over a year. This is likely to be Mann’s next movie, although he’s still developing Big Tuna and Go Like Hell.

New Oblivion Trailer – Tom Cruise wants answers in the futuristic sci-fi thriller

February 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski returns with Oblivion on April 11th, which sees Tom Cruise heading back to the future for a sci-fi thriller. It all looks pretty cool, with a new trailer showing us the ruins of familiar landmarks on a ruined Earth.

Cruise plays a man who services the drones that ensure humanity can still get the natural resources it craves, even though it has had to abandon the surface and live in the sky. However as we discover, some strange things are going on, including Morgan Freeman kidnapping him, some strange beasts and people in pods plummeting to earth. As he tries to figure out what’s happening, he becomes a target himself.

Take a look at the intriguing trailer above and a brand new poster below.

The Internship Trailer – Vince Vaughn & Owen Wilson head for Google

February 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s no surprise that with The Internship prominently featuring Google, the trailer has debuted on the company’s Youtube platform. However as with the previously released image and poster, I’m still not sure how much this is a movie and how much a Google ad.

In the movie, Billy (Vince Vaughn) and Nick (Owen Wilson) are salesmen whose careers have been torpedoed by the digital world. Trying to prove they are not obsolete, they defy the odds by talking their way into a coveted internship – yes, you guessed it, at Google – along with a battalion of brilliant college students. But, gaining entrance to this utopia is only half the battle. Now they must compete with a group of the nation’s most elite, tech-savvy geniuses to prove that necessity really is the mother of re-invention.

Shawn Levy (Real Steel) directs, with a June 7th US release set, with the movie coming to the UK on July 4th.
