New Paranoia Pic Lands With Harrison Ford, Liam Hemsworth & Gary Oldman

December 21, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

paranoia-pic1Harrison Ford, Liam Hemsworth & Gary Oldman are getting their suit on in a brand new image from the thriller Paranoia. To be honest, the first thing that strikes us is how much Liam is starting to look like his brother Chris. So if they ever need a new Thor, we know whose door they should knock on first.

Hemsworth stars as Adam Cassidy, an ambitious young man trying to get ahead in his entry-level job at a telecommunications firm. After he makes a costly mistake, the company CEO (Oldman) agrees not to turn him in if he spies on Jock Goddard (Harrison Ford), Nicholas’ mentor and a rival executive. Amber Heard is set to play a potential love interest for Adam, who works at the company he is spying on.

Robert Luketic is directing from a screenplay by Jason Dean Hall, which he adapted from the novel of the same name by Joseph Finder. Lucas Till, Embeth Davidtz, Amber Heard, Julian McMahon, with the film due out autumn 2013.

Nicole Kidman, Mia Wasikowska, and Matthew Goode Get Creepy In New Stoker Poster

December 21, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

stoker-poster1A slightly creepy new poster has emerged for Stoker, which mark Park Chan Wook’s English language debut. Nicole Kidman, Mia Wasikowska, and Matthew Goode, and seeing as Mia is holding a pencil in a bloodied hand, that’s probably good advice.

Based on a script written by Wentworth Miller, Stoker is about a young woman called India (Wasikowska) who is grieving after the death of her father (Dermot Mulroney). Things are made more complicated when Uncle Charlie (Goode), a relative she has never met before, comes to town and stays with India and her unstable mother (Kidman). But who is Uncle Charlie?

The film premieres at Sundance, and reaches UK cinemas on March 1st.

First Pic Of Tom Hardy As Mad Max Arrives Online

December 21, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

mad-max-2012-preview-pic1
Yesterday a scanned, autographed image of Tom Hardy popped up online, which had many people asking whether this was the first pic from Mad Max. Warner Bros. has now confirmed that it is indeed from the movie, and is something Hardy signed for the cast and crew.

Hardy is taking over the role of Mad Max Rockatansky from Mel Gibson. The long-delayed movie, Mad Max: Fury Road, has been shooting in South Africa and should be arriving in cinemas sometime in 2013. There’s been no info on the exact plot of the film, which is believed to be a continuation rather than complete reboot of the character.

Nicholas Hoult, Zoë Kravitz, Charlize Theron, Riley Keough and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley also star, with original Mad Max director George Miller at the helm.

The Great Gatsby Trailer – Leo DiCaprio & Tobey Maguire star in Baz Luhrmann’s movie

December 20, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Just yesterday we posted a quartet of character posters for Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming adaptation of The Great Gatsby. Now we’ve not just got another one, featuring Carey Mulligan’s Daisy Buchanan, but also a brand new trailer for the film, which suggests this is going to be an incredible looking 3D movie.

The Great Gatsby follows Tobey Maguire’s Nick Carraway, who gets caught up in the high society of Long Island in the 1930s, where he meets the rich, enigmatic Jay Gatsby (Leonardo Dicaprio), and uncovers the desires and machinations of those around him. It’s a great story that’s still waiting for a definitive film version, which hopefully Luhrmann can provide. Elizabeth Debicki, Joel Edgerton and Isla Fisher also star.

Interesting the trailer gives things a bit of a thriller angle and make Gatsby seem much more outgoingly flamboyant than he is in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s book, as he’s more of a hidden away mystery to most people in the novel. We’ll be able to see whether Luhrmann’s film is a success when it’s released on May 17th, 2012.

The Heat Red Band Trailer – Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy turn mismatched cops

December 20, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Melissa McCarthy could be having a good 2013, as Identity Thief and The Heat look like they could be a lot of fun. Now a new red band trailer has arrived, giving us a slightly ruder look at the movie.

The film reunites McCarthy with Bridesmaids director Paul Feig. Here’s the synopsis, ‘Uptight and straight-laced, FBI Special Agent Sarah Ashburn (Sandra Bullock) is a methodical investigator with a reputation for excellence – and hyper-arrogance. Shannon Mullins (Melissa McCarthy), one of Boston P.D.’s “finest,” is foul-mouthed and has a very short fuse, and uses her gut instinct and street smarts to catch the most elusive criminals. Neither has ever had a partner, or a friend for that matter. When these two wildly incompatible law officers join forces to bring down a ruthless drug lord, they become the last thing anyone expected: buddies.’

It’ll hit UK cinemas on April 5th.

Pain & Gain Trailer – Michael Bay gets less explosive and into kidnapping

December 20, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Michael Bay only agreed to make Transformers 4 if he could direct his long-gestating movie, Pain & Gain first. Now that movie is incoming, and the first trailer has arrived. Although it looks less explosion filled than most of Bay’s film, it’s still got that slightly hyper-real look he’s known for – as well as a tendency to linger on scantily clad women.

The film is based based on a true story, and sees Mark Wahlberg & Dwayne Johnson as a pair of Florida bodybuilders who get caught in the middle of an extortion and kidnapping scheme. They plan to take a rich man hostage, but things don’t exactly go to plan. Ed Harris, Rebel Wilson, Anthony Mackie, Ken Jeong and Tony Shalhoub also star.

It’s due out in the UK May 2013.

To The Wonder Trailer – Ben Affleck gets passionate in Terrence Malick’s film

December 20, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Terrence Malick’s Tree Of Life certainly divided audiences and it appears that To The Wonder is destined to do the same. It’s received decidedly mixed reviews at the Toronto and Venice film festivals, but we’ll be able to see for ourselves when the film reaches UK cinemas on February 22nd.

Now a trailer has arrived, giving us our best look at the movie yet. It’s filled with swooping low-angle camera shots, Ben Affleck looking emotional and everything being incredibly pretty yet hard to decode. It’s not going to be an easy one, as Affleck has joked that it “makes Tree of Life look like Transformers.” As with Sean Penn in Tree, it’s also been said Affleck’s role has been dramatically reduced in the actual movie compared to what he filmed.

Affleck plays Neil, who falls for Marina (Olga Kurylenko) when they meet in France. The couple return to Neil’s Oklahoma hometown, but as their passion cools, Neil is drawn to his childhood sweetheart, Jane (Rachel McAdams). While the plot is fairly simple, the execution is said to be far more complex and philosophical.to-the-wonder-pic1

Downton’s Dan Stevens Joins Dreamworks’ Wikileaks Flick

December 20, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Dan-StevensDan Stevens has had great success as the dishy Matthew Crawley in Downton Abbey, and now Variety reports that he’s landed a film role in Dreamworks’ planned Wikileaks movie, playing a hacker friend of Daniel Bruhl’s Daniel Domscheit-Berg, who goes to work at the controversial website.

Benedict Cumberbatch will play WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in the film, which follows the rise and fall of the website. Bruhl (who recently replaced James McAvoy) is also onboard to play Daniel Domscheit-Berg, whose departure from the site in 2011 – due to major philosophical and journalistic differences – is credited as one of the main reasons that thousands of secret international cables were leaked, which led to massive international controversy.

Bill Condon is directing from a screenplay by Josh Singer, which is adapted from Daniel Domscheit-Berg’s book Inside WikiLeaks: My Time With Julian Assange At The World’s Most Dangerous Website and WikiLeaks: Inside Julian Assange’s War On Secrecy by David Leigh and Luke Harding. Filming will begin next year.

The film is bound to prove controversial, as many see Domscheit-Berg as a turncoat who turned on his former friends and has been spreading disinformation to further his own agenda. Others believe he’s a hero who’s exposed the personality cult around Assange and the ethically dodgy way he handled the secrets leaked to him. Quite how the film will handle this isn’t known, although there are some who already believe it will be a hatchet job against Assange (whether he deserves it or not).

Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D. Pilot Gets Chloe Bennet As Skye

December 20, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

chloe-bennettWith all the excitement over Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series, it’s easy to forget that it isn’t a series yet. All it is is a planned pilot episode, and there’s no guarantee it’ll get picked up or see the light of day. However with Joss Whedon onboard to direct that pilot, you’ve got to imagine it’s got a good chance of becoming a fully-fledged show.

Now the pilot has rounded out its mains cast, adding Nashville star Chloe Bennet as Skye. She joins Ming-Na (Agent Melinda May), Elizabeth Henstridge (Agent Gemma Simmons), Iain De Caestecker (Agent Leo Fitz}, and Brett Dalton (Agent Grant Ward), along with Clark Gregg as the ubiquitous Agent Coulson, although it’s still not known if Gregg will be a regular character or if he’ll just be in the pilot.

Back in October, a character breakdown said about Skye, “This late-20s woman sounds like a dream: fun, smart, caring and confident – with an ability to get the upper hand by using her wit and charm.” The character is also apparently obsessed with superhero culture, which is likely what leads her to work at S.H.I.E.L.D.

Joss Whedon will direct the pilot episode from a script he co-wrote with Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen. They’ll shoot the episode in January, and if all goes to plan, the series will start airing on ABC in the US next autumn. (Source: THR)

Universal Thinking About A Pitch Perfect Sequel

December 20, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

pitch-perfect-posterWhen it was first announced, few people gave Pitch Perfect much chance of box office success, due to the fact musicals are notoriously boom or bust, and not that many people have an innate interest in a cappella singing. However the film has grossed $64 million in the US and only cost $17 million to make (and it’s still to be released in many countries, so will add to the gross).

It’s apparently good enough to have Universal talking about a sequel, with one the film’s stars, Skylar Astin, telling Movieweb, “I do have a meeting with a Universal representative next week. And I know that Rebel Wilson had hers last weekend. It’s definitely a talking point.”

As for what direction the movie might go, Astin says, “I think that I am willing to do anything. I like to collaborate. If my voice will be heard, then I will do some research and think about it. There are definitely times where I am listening to the radio, and I think, ‘That would be awesome. I would love to sing that.’ It’s this weird karaoke fantasy that I might someday get to live out on the big screen. Then again, I know there are so many politics in that decision-making. Also relevance. If we film this next year, and it doesn’t come out for another year and a half, will that song still be popular? Will it be over played? I think they did such a perfect job. The music landed so perfectly when it came out the first time, I can’t imagine, if the same people are involved, that lightning won’t strike twice. I will sing whatever they want me to sing.”

It sounds like it’s still early days, but personally we’d love to see a Pitch Perfect sequel.
