Jack Reacher Trailer – Tom Cruise has no limits!

October 17, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A new trailer for Tom Cruise’s upcoming thriller Jack Reacher has arrived, which gives things an oddly (and I presume deliberately James Bond-ish feel). The movie, which is out December 21st, sees Tom as Lee Childs’ ex–military investigator, Jack Reacher. He looks into the case of a trained military sniper who shot five random victims, an investigator that gets ever deeper and darker. As the trailer proves, it looks like Cruise is in intense mode for this one, although there’s a perhaps surprisingly humourous edge.

Life Of Pi – Impossible Journey Featurette

October 17, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ever since the idea of turning Yann Martel’s award-winning book Life Of Pi into a movie was first mooted, people have wondered how on Earth you’d turn a book that’s largely about a boy and a tiger trapped out at sea into a film. However Ang Lee has managed it, and at its film festival screenings it’s been getting some good reviews. Now a featurette has arrived looking at the challenge the filmmakers faced, and how even Martel himself thought his book was unfilmable. Life Of Pi hits UK cinemas on December 20th in 2D and 3D.

Shiloh Fernandez Joins Gregg Araki’s White Bird

October 17, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Mysterious Skin, Kaboom and The Doom Generation director Gregg Araki is a fascinating filmmaker, even if sometimes he’s had difficulty reigning in his tendency towards the random and bizarre. He’s currently putting together a new film called White Bird, which already has The Descendants’ Shailene Woodley and Eva Green set to star.

Now they’ve got some male company, as Red Riding Hood’s Shiloh Fernandez has signed up to appear in the movie, according to Deadline. The movie is about a young woman who loses control of her life when her mother disappears. Woodley will be playing the main part, but it’s not clear how Fernandez will play into the story. While Araki’s movies have generally had a very queer sensibility, it isn’t known whether this one will too.

Fernandez will next be seen in the remake of The Evil Dead. It isn’t clear when White Bird might shoot.

Tom Hardy Eyes Another Poaching Tale With DiCaprio & Maguire

October 17, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It seems Tom Hardy really has a thing about animal poaching – or rather stopping it. Back in August he came up with an idea for a sprawling global tale about the animal trade, which has been described as being similar to Traffic in its scope and ambition.

Set up at Warner Bros., he teamed up with Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire to help shepherd the movie to the screen. However not content with this, Deadline reports Hardy’s now pitched another poaching tale, and once more involved Warner, DiCaprio and Maguire. The studio will develop both films in tandem, although it’s likely only one of them will get made.

At the moment, the global tale is little more than a pitch idea, but the second film is already moving forward, with Up In The Air screenwriter Sheldon Turner hired to turn the idea into a script. This film is about an ex-special forces soldier (Hardy) who’s hired to teach rangers how to fight off poachers in the African wilds. Unsurprisingly he comes to love the land and its animals, and begins to fight back against the people trying to destroy them.

While a global tale could produce something extraordinary – and potentially has a very starry cast lined up – it’s also a bigger risk. The second movie is more straightforward, and it seems Hardy’s so keen to make something about poaching, he’s lining up options for the studio.

Paperboy Helmer Lee Daniels In Talks For Janis Joplin Biopic

October 17, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Precious director Lee Daniels is currently preparing for the release of The Paperboy and busy making The Butler, but he’s already looking to the future, as THR reports that the gay filmmaker is now in talks to direct a biopic of bisexual songstress Janis Joplin, titled Get It While You Can.

Amy Adams is attached to star as the iconic 1960’s singer-songwriter, who tragically died of a heroin overdose in the late 1960s. The artist is best known for her hits Piece of My Heart and Me and Bobby McGee. She also appeared at the original Woodstock in 1969.

People have spent decades trying to put a Joplin biopic together, and just this version has already passed through the hands of the likes of director Catherine Hardwicke and actress Renee Zellweger. It’s not the only Joplin biopic doing the rounds either, as there’s another with Broadway star Nina Arianda in the lead and Marthy Macy May Marlene director Sean Durkin helming. However Daniels’ one may well come first, as they’re planning to start shooting that one early next year.

Tom Cruise Circles Our Name Is Adam, Plus A New Jack Reacher Poster Arrives

October 17, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tom Cruise sure likes sci-fi at the moment. He’s already shot Oblivion, should start filming All You Need Is Kill soon and now Variety reports that he’s become attached to another sci-fi script called Our Name Is Adam.

TS Nowlin is behind the screenplay, but at the moment there’s no info on the story, although the title certainly hints at cloning – so perhaps we’ll be getting thousands of Tom Cruises in the movie (I can imagine he’d quite like that).

However before all this sci-fi, in December we get Jack Reacher, where Cruise plays Lee Child’s title character, an ex-military investigator, who looks into the case of a trained military sniper who shot five random victims, which turns out to be far deeper and darker than he expected. A new poster for the film has been released, suggested Tom doesn’t have any limits! You can take a look at that above.

John Leguizamo Going On A Ride Along With Ice Cube

October 17, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s rarely a bad idea to cast John Leguizamo in a film, something director Tim Story (Think Like a Man) seems to have realised, as Variety reports he’s busy signing the actor to join the cast of Ride Along.

The movie is about a hard-nosed cop (Ice Cube) who is extremely protective of his sister. When her new boyfriend (Kevin Hart) wants to marry her, he is taken on a police ride-along to prove himself to his future brother-in-law. John Leguizamo will play an undercover cop in the comedy.

Greg Coolidge wrote the screenplay, based on an earlier draft by Steve Faber and Bob Fisher (Wedding Crashers). It isn’t known when the movie will go into production.

James Ransone Replaces Nate Parker In Spike Lee’s Oldboy

October 17, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

James Ransone is currently seeing decent success in Sinister, and now he’s picked up another gig, as he has joined the cast of Spike Lee’s Oldboy, replacing the recently cast Nate Parker, who’s been forced to drop out due to scheduling issues. It’ll be James Ransone’s third movie with Lee, as the actor previously starred in the filmmaker’s Inside Man and Red Hook Summer.

Ransone will play a doctor who works with Elizabeth Olsen’s character. The film follows the story of an advertising executive (Josh Brolin) who is kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement without any indication of his captor’s motive. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment, only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment. His quest for revenge leads him into an ill-fated relationship with a young social worker (Elizabeth Olsen) and ultimately to an illusive man (Sharlto Copley) who allegedly holds the key to his salvation. Samuel L. Jackson also stars.

Spike Lee is directing from a screenplay by Mark Protosevich. Production is currently under way in New Orleans. (Source: Variety)
