First Pic From Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 Emerges

March 9, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

No sooner did we post our Blu-ray review of Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 than The Twilight Twitter account posted the very first image from the final movie in the franchise (or at least the last one for now, as there’s been talk of trying to continue somehow), which is due in cinemas November 16th.

It’s not exactly the most revealing of images, but it does suggest Edward’s going to be uncharacteristically happy at one point, perhaps due to becoming a dad!

The first trailer arrived on March 23rd, attached to The Hunger Games, and then goes online on March 26th.

Moonrise Kingdom Set To Open Cannes

March 9, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While we got Fantastic Mr. Fox in 2009, we haven’t had a live action movie from Wes Anderson since The Darjeeling Limited in 2007. However he’s back soon with Moonrise Kingdom. We had a trailer for the movie a few weeks ago, and now a very charming poster has emerged, which comes at the same time as Variety confims the movie has bagged the prestigious opening gala spot at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

Cannes artistic director Thierry Fremaux announced that Anderson’s flick will get the festival underway on May 16, commenting “Wes Anderson is one of the rising powers of American cinema, to which he brings a highly personal touch, particularly in Moonrise Kingdom, which once again is a testimony to the creative freedom in which he continues to evolve. Sensitive and independent, this admirer of Fellini and Renoir is also in his own right a brilliant and inventive filmmaker.”

Moonrise Kingdom takes us back into a world of Anderson’s whimsy and eccentricity, with plenty of stars along for the ride, including Edward Norton, Bruce Willis, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton and Jason Schwartzman. Set on an island off the coast of New England in the summer of 1965, Moonrise Kingdom tells the story of two 12-year-olds who fall in love, make a secret pact, and run away together into the wilderness. As various authorities try to hunt them down, a violent storm is brewing offshore, and the peaceful island community is turned upside down in more ways than anyone can handle. It should be in cinemas this summer.

Casa de Mi Padre’s Matt Piedmont Directing King Dork

March 9, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Casa de Mi Padre director Matt Piedmont has signed on to direct the long-gestating adaptation of Frank Portman’s novel King Dork. The movie has been in development for over six years, with Gary Sanchez Productions – run by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay – trying to get it off the ground all that time. In 2009 it looked like Seth Gordon was going to direct, but he’s since movie on.

Now Deadline reports Gary Sanchez Productions is teaming with their Casa de Mi Padre partners Nala Films to co-produce the movie, with Piedmont directing – which suggests Ferrell was very impressed with what they did on his upcoming Spanish-language comedy. The story is set in 1987 and follows two best friends whose love of rock and roll helps them get through their time in high school, where they are branded as outsiders.

Matt Piedmont is directing King Dork from an adapted script by D.V. DeVincentis. It is said that Will Ferrell loves the script, and there are several parts he may be able to play, but it is too early to tell at this point if he’ll actually be in the eventual movie.

Dwayne Johnson In Talks For Journey 3

March 9, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While he’s done it fairly quietly, Dwayne Johnson has become one fo the few actors around consistently churning out hit movies. Many have suggested it was his presence that ensured the recent Journey 2 turned into a far bigger box office draw than anyone had expected.

Warner/New Line is already at work on a third Journey movie, and now TheWrap suggests Johnson is in talks to return as Hank in Journey 3. A couple of days ago, director Brad Peyton and screenwriters Brian Gunn and Mark Gunn signed on for the third movie. No details on the story have been revealed yet, but Peyton has suggested it will be based on another of Jules Verne’s classic tales.

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island was a follow-up to 2008’s Journey to the Center of the Earth, although Josh Hutcherson was the only actor to return for the second installment, portraying Sean. Dwayne Johnson played Sean’s stepfather Hank in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, and it seems Hank will be imparting more wisdom (and pec-pops) to Sean in Journey 3, even though Josh Hutcherson hasn’t officially signed on yet.

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island has grossed over $280 million worldwide since opening in early February. No production schedule was given for Journey 3, although Warner Bros. is eyeing a 2014 release.

Tom Hardy Set To Be A 60s Outlaw Biker

March 9, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Few actors have looked as likely to become a full-on A-list star in the last few years as Tom Hardy (or been so charmingly hot), and Warner Bros. obviously agrees, as they’ve signed a first look deal with the actor after being impressed by his work on The Dark Knight Rises. Variety reports that the first film under the deal may be a 1960’s Outlaw Biker movie, with Tom producing as well as starring.

The story is about a wounded Vietnam veteran who returns home to San Francisco at the height of civil unrest in 1969. Amid the clashing cultures of the Haight-Ashbury district, he emerges to become the leader of California’s most violent outlaw biker club. Mark L. Smith wrote the script from an original idea from John Linson.

The movie is still in early development, so it’s unclear when it might go into production.

Nicolas Cage’s Comic Book Theft Set To Become A Film

March 9, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Nicolas Cage is well-known for being a major comic book fan. He’s also very rich and so owns a copy of the holy grail of comics, Action Comics No. 1, featuring the first appearance of Superman. However he had a bit of bother in 2000, when his coveted comic was stolen, an event THR reports Lionsgate now wants to turn into a movie.

The film will focus on a group of nerds who attempt to steal Cage’s copy of Action Comics No. 1. The theft made headlines in 2000 and the looted comic was only recovered in 2011, when it was found amongst the contents of an abandoned storage locker. Interestingly, because Cage had already claimed on his insurance, he didn’t get his comic back, and it was eventually auctioned for a record $2.16 million.

Lionsgate has snapped up the screenplay from Reno 911! and Night At The Museum writers Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon, who are also producing with Peter Principato and Paul Young. The project is being written with the Cage in mind to play himself, but it is uncertain if Nicolas will agree to be part of the movie.

Prepare Yourself For Gnomeo & Juliet 2: Sherlock Gnomes

March 9, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While not a mega-hit, Gnomeo and Juliet managed to make over $190 million at cinemas around the world the world last year, and so now Deadline reports Elton John’s Rocket Pictures has started working on a sequel, which will feature new music by the famed singer.

Original writers Andy Riley and Kevin Cecil are currently working on the sequel script, which is currently titled Gnomeo and Juliet: Sherlock Gnomes. James McAvoy and Emily Blunt are expected to reprise their roles voicing the title characters, but no deals have been made yet.

The follow-up sees Gnomeo and Juliet hiring ‘the greatest ornamental detective,’ Sherlock Gnomes, when gnomes start disappearing from their lawns. Executive producer Steve Hamilton Shaw commented, “Action detective stories need some gnomes to liven them up, I’m sure Arthur Conan Doyle would agree. It will be a fun, broad family film building on the popular foundation of the first. We believe the wide appeal of our world and characters combined with strong musical elements create a terrific franchise opportunity.”

Production is slated to begin this fall, but no release date is currently set.

First Pic Of Depp & Hammer In Lone Ranger Debuts

March 8, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After plenty of problems with an ever-ballooning budget that almost saw Disney scrap the film, The Lone Ranger is finally shooting, and to prove it, Jerry Bruckheimer has tweeted the first image from the set, showing a bemasked Armie Hammer as the title character, alongside Johnny Depp as Tonto (Depp now only signs onto movies if they promise he can wear completely OTT costumes).

According to Disney, ‘The Lone Ranger is a thrilling adventure infused with action and humor, in which the famed masked hero is brought to life through new eyes. Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice—taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.’

And I don’t know the politics of this, but is it not racist if Depp pretends to be a Native American, but it would be if he blacked up? It’s all very confusing.
