Jared Leto Reportedly Circling Disney’s Tron Reboot

March 4, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With Marvel, Pixar, its animated films and its live-action versions of classic animations, Disney has had huge amounts of success in the past few years. It’s also had some bombs, where films were hyped to the hilt and then underperformed at the box office. That includes John Carter, The Lone Ranger and Tron: Legacy.

Although the last of those wasn’t a complete failure (it made around $400 million), it certainly didn’t click with audiences in the way Disney had hoped, as they were planning TV series and an ongoing movie franchise, which quietly got pushed to one side. However the studio hasn’t given up on Tron, and has been working on a new movie set in that world.

Now it looks like they’re starting to move forward, as THR reports that Jared Leto is circling the movie. The film is a bit of a reboot, as it won’t be a full-on sequel to Tron: Legacy, but will use some of the ideas from the third Tron movie that Disney previously commissioned a script for.

It’s still early days as no director is attached and a writer hasn’t been hired yet sort out the script. However, they’re hoping to get Leto onboard and build the film around him as a star vehicle.

bwoy Trailer – Anthony Rapp starts an online love affair in the gay-themed film

March 2, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s always nice to see Anthony Rapp on the screen, and now he’s back with bwoy, the latest movie from Parallel Sons and The Reception director John G. Young. The movie premiered last year at Chicago’s Reeling Film LGBTQ+ Festival to a pretty postive response.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘bwoy follows Brad O’Connor (Anthony Rapp, Rent) who, after the death of his son, becomes entangled in a chaotic and passionate online love affair with Yenny, a young Jamaican man (newcomer Jimmy Brooks).  With both Brad and his wife Marcia (De’Adre Aziza) seeking solace in destructive ways, their lives and relationships are pushed to the brink, culminating in tragic confrontations that no one can avoid.’

Breaking Glass Pictures has snapped up the US rights, with an April 4th DVD/VoD release planned. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge Trailer – Jack Sparrow is a wanted man

March 2, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

I’m still not sure why the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie is called Dead Men Tell No Tales in the US, but in the UK it’s Salazar’s Revenge. Now a new trailer has arrived, which tells us more about the plot than anything we’ve seen before, and exactly why Javier Bardem’s Salazar is after revenge – which involves a very youthful Jack Sparrow.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea…including him. Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.’

It’ll be in cinemas next May. Take a look at the new trailer below. [Read more…]

CHIPS Red Band Trailer – Dax Shepard shows off some California Highway patrol butt

March 2, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

CHIPS may be fondly remembered in the US, but it never had the same impact over here in the UK. However, Warner Bros. must feel there’s enough life in the franchise, as they’ve decided to take the 1970s Erik Estrada and Larry Wilcox TV show, and turn it into a movie.

A new red band trailer has arrived, which even gives us a glimpse of Dax Shepard’s rather smooth butt – although it is part of a slightly lazy scene about how horrific it is for a guy to be naked when another guy is around.

Here’s the synopsis: ”Dax Shepard (“Hit and Run,” TV’s “Parenthood”) and Michael Peña (“The Martian”) star in Warner Bros. Pictures’ action comedy CHIPS. Shepard also directs from a script he penned based on the characters from the popular ‘70s television series created by Rick Rosner.

‘Jon Baker (Shepard) and Frank “Ponch” Poncherello (Peña) have just joined the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in Los Angeles but for very different reasons. Baker is a beaten up pro motorbiker trying to put his life and marriage back together. Poncherello is a cocky undercover Federal agent investigating a multi-million dollar heist that may be an inside job—inside the CHP.

‘The inexperienced rookie and hardened pro are teamed together, but clash more than click, so kickstarting a partnership is easier said than done. But with Baker’s bike skills combined with Ponch’s street savvy it might just work…if they don’t drive each other crazy along the way.

‘Also starring are Rosa Salazar (“Insurgent”), Adam Brody (“Think Like a Man Too”), Kristen Bell (“Veronica Mars”), and Vincent D’Onofrio (“Jurassic World”).’

It’ll be in cinemas in March. [Read more…]

Dropping The Soap Trailer – Jane Lynch stars in a camp take on soap operas

March 1, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With Jane Lynch executive producing, as well as the Glee star appearing alongside a great list of guest stars – many of which feature in the trailer below – Dropping The Soap certainly looks like it’s got plenty of potential. The show arrives on streaming services on March 7th, including the gay-centric subscription service, Dekkoo.com.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Executive produced by Jane Lynch, “Dropping the Soap” goes behind-the-scenes of the long-running (gawdawful) soap-opera “Collided Lives”. As the program struggles to stay afloat, a new Executive Producer named Olivia Vanderstein (hilarious played by Lynch) shows up to shake things up.

‘While the cast and crew desperately try to hold things together, Julian Drake (the soap’s leading man of “questionable talent and moral compass’) played by co-creator Paul Witten struggles to keep his personal life private and his cast members employed.’

“As the TV soap opera itself circles the drain, I love how our crew of self-centered and desperate actors charge ever forward to save their show from the chopping block,” said Lynch. “The writing is so sharp and witty as the off-screen shenanigans become almost more absurd than the storylines of “Collided Lives.’”

A Very Sordid Wedding Trailer – The follow-up to Del Shores’ gay-themed cult classic is coming

March 1, 2017 By Tim Isaac 2 Comments

Award-winning writer/director Del Shores’ play, Sordid Lives, has had quite a life, spawning a movie and TV series. Now he’s returning to that world for a sequel, A Very Sordid Wedding. The trailer for the movie has now arrived, which you can watch below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘It’s 2015, seventeen years after Peggy tripped over G.W.’s wooden legs and died in Sordid Lives, and life has moved into the present for the residents of Winters, Texas. Sissy Hickey (Dale Dickey) is reading the Bible, cover to cover, trying to make some kind of sense out of what it really says about gay people. Her niece Latrelle Williamson (Bonnie Bedelia) has divorced her husband Wilson (Michael MacRae) who has taken up with a hot young gold digger.

‘Latrelle’s now out and proud gay son Ty (Kirk Geiger) is on his way back to town with his black man and news of their own. Her sister LaVonda (Ann Walker) is still cussin’ and drankin’ and is being blackmailed to sit with the sick and afflicted. LaVonda’s best friend Noleta (Caroline Rhea) meets a hot younger man while visiting her awful mama in the hospital. G.W. (David Steen), sporting new fiberglass legs after Noleta burned his old ones, is still feeling guilty and mourning Peggy. Nearly incoherent barfly Juanita (Sarah Hunley) has moved from her obsession with Vacation Bible School roosters to the royal family while Wardell (Newell Alexander) and Odell (David Cowgill) still bicker at the bar.

‘Tammy Wynette champion Brother Boy (Leslie Jordan) hasn’t been back to Winters since Peggy’s funeral, and he’s working at a tragic little gay bar in Longview, having added Loretta and Dolly to his new medley act “We Three Queens of Oper-y Are” till a chance meeting with a dangerous criminal forces him out on the run. As the sordid saga continues, an anniversary memorial service is being planned in honor of Peggy at Bubba’s Bar while the Southside Baptist Church is planning an “Anti-Equality Rally” to protest the advancement of same-sex marriage, spearheaded by Vera Lisso (Lorna Scott) and Mrs. Barnes (Sharon Garrison). Both events are to take place on the same night, so the cast of colorful characters are all on a collision course for shenanigans and fireworks, and a surprise wedding!’

On March 10th, the film will have its World Premiere and then an exclusive two-week theatrical release at Camelot Theatres in Palm Springs, where the original film ran for 96 weeks. It will be followed by a national limited theatrical run by The Film Collaborative, expanding to Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, San Francisco, Atlanta, Fort Lauderdale and other cities and dates to be announced. An ‘Exclusively Gay’ Disney Moment Is Coming In The Live-Action Beauty & The Beast

March 1, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It was only revealed a few hours ago, but already some of the right-wing press are talking about it as if it’s the official end of the world, but there’s going to be an ‘exclusively gay’ moment in a Disney movie. It’s been a long time coming, as despite the company itself and its theme parks being known as extremely gay-friendly, on-screen Disney has a very bad track record with LGBT characters. Indeed, in last year’s GLAAD Studio Responsibility Index, the studio was singled out for not including a single identifiably LGBT character in any of its movies.

While there have been plenty of hints and potential gay subtext in a lot of the studio’s films (enough that some Christian groups are convinced that any Disney film that has a theme suggesting someone should be themselves, is trying to turn the whole world gay), there haven’t been any properly, unequivocally gay moments in any of Disney’s family movies. However, if director Bill Condon is to be believed, that will change with the live-action Beauty & The Beast.

He tells Attitude that the movie will add a little more the story of the arrogant Gaston’s acolyte, Lefou, played by Josh Gad. Condon says, “LeFou is somebody who on one day wants to be Gaston and on another day wants to kiss Gaston. He’s confused about what he wants. It’s somebody who’s just realising that he has these feelings. And Josh makes something really subtle and delicious out of it. And that’s what has its payoff at the end, which I don’t want to give away. But it is a nice, exclusively gay moment in a Disney movie.”

There’s no info on exactly what the scene it, but it would suggest that at the end of the film, Lefou might get a bit of romance with a man who isn’t Gaston. It’ll be interesting to see how it’s played, and whether it’s done in a explicit way, or whether Disney will hedge its bets by having it as something that adults will understand while it’ll go over the kids’ heads.

Disney has flirted with gay characters before, but usually in coded or secretive ways. For example, in last year’s Zootropolis, Judy Hopps’ male neighbours may well have been a gay couple. This wasn’t clear from the actual film (they could have been roommates), and no one even thought about it until it was noticed in the credits they had the same surname. The Beauty & The Beast scene certainly seems like it’ll be a step forward, although not exactly the sort of fully realised LGBT storyline we might like to see in a Disney movie.

New Alien: Covenant Trailer – The xenomorphs are back on a whole new planet

March 1, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The new Alien: Covenant trailer is certainly intriguing. After the mixed reaction to Prometheus, it’s certainly keen to show this will be a more typical Alien movie, while also suggesting it won’t be exactly the same as the earlier movies.

It also hints towards some mysteries, such as what spores have to do with the film, what a strange white monster that’s briefly glimpsed is, and exactly how it links to both Prometheus and later Alien movies. It’s all immensely tantalising.

Here’s the brief synopsis: ‘Set as the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with Prometheus, Alien: Covenant connects directly to Ridley Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. It begins with the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy. There, the crew discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.’

The movie will be in cinemas in May. Take a look at the new trailer and a new poster below. [Read more…]

New Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Trailer – Say hello to Star Lord’s dad, Kurt Russell

March 1, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Although we’ve had a couple of promos for the excellent looking Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, one thing we haven’t seen is Kurt Russell as Star Lord’s father, Ego the Living Planet. That’s now been remedied with a new trailer – although you have to wait until the very end to see him. Oddly, he does look like he really could be Chris Pratt’s dad.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” is directed by James Gunn and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, featuring Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan, Sean Gunn, Tommy Flanagan, Laura Haddock and Kurt Russell. Kevin Feige is producing, and Louis D’Esposito, Jonathan Schwartz, Victoria Alonso, Nik Korda and Stan Lee are the executive producers. The screenplay is by James Gunn. Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” blasts into UK cinemas April 28th 2017.’

Take a look at the new promo below. It’s certainly looks like it’s gonna be another good one, and the early rumours suggest Marvel and James Gun have done it again. [Read more…]

War Machine Teaser Trailer – Netflix show off its upcoming movie starring Brad Pitt

March 1, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Today Netflix was in Berlin, trying to woo the European market and showing off some of its upcoming wares. After releasing a trailer for Bright, starring Will Smith a couple of days ago, they decided today was a good time for the first teaser for another film they’ve got up their sleeve featuring a-list talent – War Machine, starring Brad Pitt.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘An absurdist war story for our times, writer-director David Michôd (Animal Kingdom) recreates a U.S. General’s roller-coaster rise and fall as part reality, part savage parody – raising the specter of just where the line between them lies today. His is an exploration of a born leader’s ultra-confident march right into the dark heart of folly. At the story’s core is Brad Pitt’s sly take on a successful, charismatic four-star general who leapt in like a rock star to command NATO forces in Afghanistan, only to be taken down by a journalist’s no-holds-barred exposé.

‘The Netflix original film is inspired by the book The Operators: The Wild & Terrifying Inside Story of America’s War in Afghanistan by the late journalist Michael Hastings. Joining Pitt in War Machine is a highly decorated cast including Tilda Swinton, Ben Kingsley, Anthony Michael Hall, Topher Grace, Will Poulter, Lakeith Stanfield, Emory Cohen, John Magaro, RJ Cyler, Alan Ruck, Scoot McNairy and Meg Tilly. Ian Bryce and Plan B’s Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Brad Pitt serve as producers. James Skotchdopole serves as executive producer. The film will be released on Netflix on May 26, 2017.’ [Read more…]
