Harrison Confirmed For Ender’s Game

December 22, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Just over a week ago, it was reported that the producers of the upcoming adaptation of the young adult novel Ender’s Game wanted Harrison Ford to be in the movie. At the time it wasn’t clear whether the actor was interested, but now Variety reports Ford, Abigail Breslin, and Hailee Steinfeld have all been confirmed to star in the film for director Gavin Hood.

Harrison Ford will portray Colonel Hyram Graff, who oversees a military facility where gifted youngsters are trained to prevent an imminent alien attack. Abigail Breslin is playing Valentine Wiggin, the older sister to Ender (Hugo star Asa Butterfield), while Hailee Steinfeld is set to be Ender’s ally ,Petra Arkanian. Aramis Knight, Moises Arias, Jimmy Pinchak, Suraj Partha, Conor Carroll, and Khylin Rhambo have also joined the cast and will play other kids at the school.

Gavin Hood will direct Ender’s Game from his own screenplay, which is adapted from the Orson Scott Card novel. Production is scheduled to begin early next year in New Orleans for release March 2013.

David Yates Helming Your Voice in My Head

December 22, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

After spending the last few years directing Harry Potter movies, David Yates has been casting around for new projects, with his name rumoured for everything from The Stand to Gangster Squad to an Al Capone flick.

Everything he’s been mentioned for has been a big flashy project, but it looks like he might actually want to go for something a tad quieter as ScreenDaily reports he’s signed on to make Your Voice in My Head for Ruby Films.

The project is based on Emma Forrest’s memoir, which chronicles her suicidal tendencies and quest to become a better person by visiting a psychiatrist. Yates commented,  “It’s about a young woman who self harms and she visits this psychiatrist who helps her to learn to live again. It’s got very heightened, odd moments in it that are slightly trippy.”

David Yates will direct from a screenplay by Emma Forrest, which she adapted from her own book. It isn’t known when Your Voice in My Head might shoot.

December 21, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Last week two new banners for The Avengers emerged, reminding us that amongst the trailers for the likes of The Hobbit and The Dark Knight Rises, there’s another movie vying to be 2012’s big ticket. Now the images from the banners have been broken into eight new character posters, giving us a closer look at Thor, Iron Man, Captain America, Bruce Banner, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Nick Fury and Loki.

Take a look at the posters above and below. The film hits cinemas on April 27th.

Vin Diesel Confirms A Fast & Furious 7

December 21, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Universal has had quite a few high-profile failures, so Fast & Furious is probably the most important franchise it currently has running, so the news that the studio would like to make a seventh film in the series alongside the already planned sixth isn’t that massive a surprise.

There have been rumours about it for a while, but now they’ve been confirmed by Vin Diesel, who told THR that, “With the success of this last one, and the inclusion of so many characters, and the broadening of scope, when we were sitting down to figure out what would fit into the real estate of number six, we didn’t have enough space.

“We have to pay off this story, we have to service all of these character relationships, and when we started mapping all that out it just went beyond 110 pages. The studio said, ‘You can’t fit all that story in one damn movie!'”

Both screenplays will be written back-to-back, and there’s a good chance they’ll be filmed that way as well next summer. What isn’t certain from Diesel’s comments is whether Fast & Furious 6 and 7 will be a two-parter, or if they will be stand-alone movies.

And may I just say you have to have respect for Diesel, who always manages to talk as if Fast & Furious is some sort of Shakespearean saga of complex characters and epic intrigue. It’s almost like he’s never actually watched one.

Jessica Biel Wants To Find Truth About Fishes

December 21, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Poor old Jessica Biel. I’ve always thought she’s a rare case of an actress being held back by her attractiveness, as she’s actually a very good actress, but she nearly always gets shoved into eye candy roles that make her seem far more pointless than she actually is.

However, perhaps going a bit indie will help as Variety reports Biel is in talks to star alongside Kaya Scodelario in the thriller Emanuel and the Truth About Fishes, which is being written and directed by one-half of the Tanner Hall duo, Francesca Gregorini.

The film follows the bizarre relationship between a grieving mother (Jessica Biel), who has lost her child and now carries around a surrogate doll, and the 17-year-old babysitter that comes to take care of this very life-like doll. The young woman goes along with the delusion because the mother looks like her own mom, whom she lost years earlier. It’s bizarre but should allow Biel to showing off her acting skills.

Rooney Mara was originally set to play the babysitter, but had to drop out when the start date of shooting got pushed back from 2011 to 2012.

Star Trek 2 Shooting On Film For Post-Production 3D

December 21, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

While JJ Abrams is out doing promotional duties as producer of Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol producer J.J. Abrams, all anyone really wants to ask him about is Star Trek 2. However Abrams is notoriously tight-lipped, so he’s not saying much, but he did let slip to MTV that the movie will be shot in 2D and converted to 3D later, with some scenes possibly shooting in IMAX.

“We’re shooting on film, 2D, and then we’ll do a good high-end conversion like the Harry Potter movie and all that,” Abrams says. “Luckily, with our release date now (May 17th, 2013) we have the months needed to do it right because if you rush it, it never looks good. We were talking about [shooting in IMAX] and I would love to do it. IMAX is my favorite format; I’m a huge fan.”

The director wouldn’t say whether, as rumoured, Kahn is going to be the villain, saying that it is too early to talk about the fine details just yet. He did call the script “amazing”, and claims that it will all be on him if this film gets screwed up.

Some are bound to grumble about post-production 3D, but it can be okay if done well. The film begins shooting next month.

Chris Nolan Only Likely To Slightly Alter Bane’s Voice

December 21, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

With a new trailer on Monday and a six-minute prologue attached to IMAX prints of Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, the world gotten its first taste of Tom Hardy’s villainous Bane. However many people’s first reaction was, ‘What the hell is he saying?’

Many haven’t seen this as a problem, as the footage we’ve had is great and shows that the really important aspect of Bane is his physicality, not knowing exactly knowing what he’s saying. THR reports that some at Warner Bros are really worried about Bane’s comprehensibility, but insiders suggest that while director Christopher Nolan plans to alter the sound mix for Bane’s voice slightly, there won’t be a major overhaul of his dialogue.

An unnamed source is quoted as saying, “Chris wants the audience to catch up and participate rather than push everything at them. He doesn’t dumb things down. You’ve got to pedal faster to keep up.”

Nolan has also suggested that the prologue may not be the best showcase of whether we’ll be able to understand Bane or not, as while the accent and mask will always obscure things slightly, the fact the prologue takes place on a noisy plane makes things even more difficult to understand. It’ll be interesting to see what Bane ends up like in the final movie, which reaches cinemas in July.

James Franco In Talks For Lovelace Cameo

December 21, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Earlier this year it was reported that James Franco was in talks to play the male lead of Chuck Traynor in the Linda Lovelace biopic, Lovelace. However a deal never came together and the part went to Peter Sarsgard instead. However Franco may still pop up and he’s now in talks for a cameo role as Hugh Hefner, reuniting him with the directors of Howl, Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman.

Amanda Seyfried is playing the title role of porn actress Linda Lovelace, star of the infamous Deep Throat, who later became a noted anti-porn advocate. James Franco’s involvement will be limited, with only one scene where Hugh Hefner invites Lovelace and Traynor to the Playboy mansion for a screening of Deep Throat

Variety also reports that Hank Azaria, Bobby Cannavale, Chris Noth and Robert Patrick have joined the film. Hank Azaria will play Deep Throat director Jerry Damiano, Bobby Cannavale and Chris Noth will be Deep Throat financiers Butchie Peraino and Anthony Romano, and Robert Patrick will portray Linda’s father, John. They join recently announced cast members Wes Bentley, Sharon Stone and Juno Temple.

Shooting has just begun.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Trailer

December 21, 2011 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

This first trailer for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey seems in large part about assuring us we really are going back into Middle Earth, and it’ll be the proper one, with Ian McKellen, Cate Blanchett and Gollum. It has very much the same feel as Lord Of The Rings, which is what you’d hope and Martin Freeman seems a good fit as Bilbo. It very much an introduction back into the fantasy world, but it certainly seems this two part Hobbit adventure is on the right track! The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits cinemas on December 14th, 2012.
