It’s becoming a little bit a tradition that amongst the blockbuster action movies of the summer, there’s a slightly schmaltzy young adult film adaptation that’s ignored by most but becomes a sleeper hit with its intended audience. One of the film’s hoping to be this one’s breakout YA success is Everything, Everything, which has just released its first trailer.
Here’s the synopsis: ‘From Warner Bros. Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures comes the romantic drama “Everything, Everything,” directed by Stella Meghie and based on the bestselling book of the same name by Nicola Yoon.
‘What if you couldn’t touch anything in the outside world? Never breathe in the fresh air, feel the sun warm your face…or kiss the boy next door? “Everything, Everything” tells the unlikely love story of Maddy, a smart, curious and imaginative 18-year-old who due to an illness cannot leave the protection of the hermetically sealed environment within her house, and Olly, the boy next door who won’t let that stop them.
‘Maddy is desperate to experience the much more stimulating outside world, and the promise of her first romance. Gazing through windows and talking only through texts, she and Olly form a deep bond that leads them to risk everything to be together…even if it means losing everything.
‘“Everything, Everything” stars Amandla Stenberg (“The Hunger Games”) as Maddy and Nick Robinson (“Jurassic World”) as Olly. The film also stars Ana de la Reguera (“Sun Belt Express”) and Anika Noni Rose (“Dreamgirls”).’

Richard Linklater went from the Oscar-winning triumph of Boyhood to a ho-hum reception for Everybody Wants Some!!, his spiritual successor to his breakthrough Dazed & Confused. Now he’s putting together something rather different to both those movies, as it’s been announced he’s teaming with Robert Downey Jr. for a real-life con man tale.
It turns out that while most gay-themed entertainment seems to revolve around twinks and muscle, it turns out there are plenty of people out there who want something a bit beefier and hairier. Although most web series don’t make it past Season 1, Where The Bears Are is gearing up for Season 6 – having already scored more than 23 million views for its first five seasons – and have launched a 
Harvey Fierstein’s Torch Song Trilogy is undoubtedly a classic piece of gay theatre. The three-part play, which debuted in 1982, won the writer/star a pair of Tony Awards, got adapted into a movie in 1988 and has been revived numerous times. Now it’s coming back, with the announcement that Michael Urie will play the central role in a slightly altered version of the piece.
While there has been a lot of controversy about casting cisgender actors in transgender roles, there’s generally less talk about whether straight actors should play gay roles. However, there are certainly some out there who think it would be better to cast gay actors (although at least we seem to have gotten past the time when straight actors are described as ‘brave’ for playing a gay part).
Next month former Downton Abbey star Dan Stevens is getting covered in CGI as the Beast in Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast, but those hoping to actually be able to see his face a bit more will have to wait for The Ticket. In that movie he’s into parable territory as a blind man who regains his sight, but instead becomes blind to what was really good about his life.
It’s not a good day when you end up a in wasteland inhabited by bloodthirsty cannibals. However, in The Bad Batch there’s an area of Texas that’s no longer Texas, as it’s been abandoned by the United States and they’re having nothing to do with anyone who enters it – and that’s at least partly due to the cannibals.
