Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Trailer – Felicity Jones has a very important mission in a galaxy far, far away

April 7, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

rogue-one-trailer-slideNow this is an interesting one. There was a lot riding on the trailer for Rogue One after the success of The Force Awakens, as not only did it have to show it wasn’t a follow-up to last year’s movie but it also needed to show those uncertain about it that it wasn’t just a shameless cash-in on the Star Wars name.

I think it’s fair to say it does a great job, displaying a darker, more adult tone, while showing an impressive feel for the look of the original Star Wars trilogy, mixed with some very modern special effects. It’s not surprising they have gone for that slightly 1970s look, as the film is set just before A New Hope.

The film follows the mission that got hold of the Death Star plans that played such a vital role in the first movie. And after the success of Rey, the trailer introduces us to another strong heroine in the form of Felicity Jones’ Jyn Erso. Take a look at the trailer below.

The movie hits cinemas in December. [Read more…]

Firefly’s Sean Maher Has Married His Long-term Partner, Paul

April 6, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

sean-maherSean Maher has been setting people’s hearts aflutter ever since his debut as the title character in Ryan Caulfield: Year One, before gaining many more fans as Dr. Simon Tam in Joss Whedon’s Firefly. Since then he’s popped up in the likes of The Playboy Club, Arrow, Eastsiders and Looking.

He is also, of course, gay, having come out publicly a few years ago when he let the world know he didn’t just have a long-term partner, but they also have a couple of kids. And now it seems they’ve gone the whole hog and gotten married.

Maher revealed the news on Twitter, saying, ‘I sit here and Tweet. Check my profile. Still pretty much the same. Oh… but I change ‘Partner’ to ‘Husband’. Cus that happened.’

The couple have been together for over 10 years, and it’s great they can now cement that relationship with marriage. Congratulations to both of them.

Hopefully we’ll get to see some pics soon. (And thanks to NewNowNext for the tip) [Read more…]

Tough Love S3 Ep2 – Steven goes on a date with a cute guy while Blaire turns hypochondriac

April 6, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tough-love-s3-ep2-slideIn the two-part first episode of Tough Love Season 3, Steven’s date with a super-hot, muscled model didn’t go too well as it brought up all his insecurities. However, there’s a possibility things are looking up for him in Episode 2. However Blaire is being as anxious as ever.

Ep 2 finds Blaire in a panic over the Ebola virus. In her words, “How do we know Ebola is over? It’s only over until the next person gets it!” Meanwhile, Steven goes on his first OkCupid date with the adorable Tyler, played by actor Logan Sutherland, and things get cute. But will they get to kiss?

Creator/star Steven Bell comments, “This episode was a blast to make. We get to dive deep into Blaire’s mind and see how her anxiety works. We shot a full Ebola Zombie sequence on a NYC subway and it’s every public transit passenger’s worst nightmare. We also get to see Steven go on his first successful date with a cute boy named Tyler. Tyler is handsome, smart, but also awkward in his own way. The chemistry between the two characters is really cute. Maybe too cute.”

Get A Fresh Look At Benedict Cumberbatch As Doctor Strange

April 6, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

doctor-strange-pic2Benedict Cumberbatch could either be brilliant or horribly miscast in Doctor Strange, but he certainly looks the part. Just after Christmas we got our first look at him as the Marvel hero, and now a new image of him in the role has dropped, as you can see above.

Cumberbatch will play Stephen Vincent Strange, a former neurosurgeon who becomes the next Sorcerer Supreme and primary protector of Earth against magical and mystical threats. Marvel Comics artist Steve Ditko created the character in 1963. Tilda Swinton will play Strange’s mentor, the Ancient One, while Chiwetel Ejiofor will appear as Baron Mordo, who also studies magic under the Ancient One in the comic books, before becoming Doctor Strange’s nemesis. Mads Mikelsen is also onboard to play an as yet unnamed villain, who EW says, is ‘a sorcerer who breaks off into his own sect… he believes that the Ancient One is just protecting her own power base and that the world may be better off if we were to allow some of these other things through.’

Scott Derrickson is directing the movie. It’ll be in cinemas November 2016. We should be getting a trailer soon.

Kiel’s Transgender Film Festival 2016 Announces Its Line-up

April 5, 2016 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Transgender-Film-Festival-2016The Transgender Film Festival in Kiel, Germany, returns this year for another edition running from April 14th to 17th. It’s taken the perhaps surprising decision to screen Roland Emmerich’s Stonewall – a movie many took issue with and accused it of marginalising gender non-confirming people’s importance to the Christopher Street riots, while focusing on a cisgender, white man.

However, the organisers of the Transgender Film Festival hope that their programme sparks debate, and it is a very rare chance to see the film on the big screen in Europe, due to the fact that after its abysmal box office and the anger it induced in the US, it still hasn’t been released in many other countries, and those it has have had little or no cinema release.

Stonewall certainly isn’t the only film screening at the fest, with numerous other shorts and feature-length movies that feature trans* characters or themes being given a showcase at the fest, including Tangerine, Rocky Horror Picture Show and The New Girlfriend (Une Nouvelle Amie). There will also be many from the UK, and you can get a taste for some of those below.

Grace & Frankie: Season 2 Trailer – Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda and their gay exes are back

April 5, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

GRACE-AND-FRANKIE-S2-KEY-ART-slideLast year Netflix made a concerted effort to make shows that would appeal to a slightly older demographic than the young people the service is known to attract in droves. One of the classiest bits of original programming was Grace & Frankie, starring Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda as two married women approaching old age, who get the shock of their lives when their husbands (Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston) don’t just announce they’re leaving them, but that they’re gay and in a relationship.

Now Season 2 is on its way and the trailer has been released.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘With their ex-hubbies now married to each other and their clans more integrated than ever, Grace and Frankie continue to struggle to make sense of the brave new world that is their lives. Frankie copes by getting more involved in Brianna’s business.’ Take a look at the trailer below.

Season 2 will start streaming on Netflix on May 6th. [Read more…]

Johnathon Schaech Talks About His Time As Ellen Degeneres’ Beard

April 5, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

johnathon-schaechNowadays Ellen DeGeneres is a much loved comedian, talk show host and actress, and may well be the most famous lesbian in the world. But when she was first finding fame she hadn’t come out, and now actor Johnathon Schaech has confirmed that for a time he acted as her beard – however, it has to be said the way he talks about it is surprisingly gallant.

When asked on Reddit about being seen with Ellen in the 90s, he said “My manager asked me to accompany her to events. She was scared people would not watch the show, her sitcom Ellen, because she was gay. It was an honor … She’s a great example for the human race.”

He also spoke about his thoughts about LGBT people, “I grew up with two gay aunts and a gay uncle. My aunt died of cancer. She was a proud woman and she didn’t get proper care because she didn’t want to be away from her partner. Hospitals didn’t allow partners the same rights as a spouse. When you have someone you love in your life that is gay or a lesbian it’s very clear that they deserve the same rights as anyone else. It’s not about religion. If you don’t love ELLEN now – you don’t watch her show. She’s a great example for the human race.”

When asked to confirm whether he was essentially her beard, Schaech says, “She wasn’t out…I was supposed to perform in her coming out episode but I ran the marathon and couldn’t walk the next day, the network fired me cause they thought I was lame. I was lame, DONT RUN A MARATHON when you’re given a great gift.”

Schaech is best known for the likes of That Thing Yo Do, Quarantine, and How to Make An American Quilt, and is about to make some new fans when he pops up as Jonah Hex in DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow.

The BFG Trailer – Steven Spielberg takes us into Roald Dahl’s giant world

April 5, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

bfg-teaser-poster-slideA couple of month ago we had a fun little teaser for The BFG, but it didn’t show us much, other than it was about two people – one very small, and the other so enormous we only saw his hand. Now we get to see a lot more, with a new trailer introducing us to the giant’s world, and the fact that jut because you’re a giant, doesn’t mean there aren’t even bigger people out there.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘“The BFG” is the exciting tale of a young London girl and the mysterious Giant who introduces her to the wonders and perils of Giant Country. Based on the beloved novel by Roald Dahl, “The BFG” (Big Friendly Giant) was published in 1982 and has been enchanting readers of all ages ever since. Dahl’s books, which also include “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” “James and the Giant Peach,” “Matilda” and “Fantastic Mr. Fox,” are currently available in 58 languages and have sold over 200 million copies worldwide.

‘From the minds of two of the world’s greatest storytellers – Roald Dahl and Steven Spielberg – THE BFG will see a UK release on July 22nd 2016.’ Take a look at the new trailer below. [Read more…]

Charlize Theron Re-Teaming With Diablo Cody & Jason Reitman For A New Film

April 5, 2016 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

charlize-theronSome loved 2011’s Young Adult while others were far less impressed, but some of the creative team are getting back together. Deadline reports that Charlize Theron is loosely attached to a new script by Diablo Cody (Juno), which Jason Reitman is attached to direct.

Everything is in the early stages, to the point where no plot details have been released, other than that it centres around motherhood.

There was a lot of interest in Young Adult, partly because it reunited Reitman and Cody after the Oscar winning success of Juno. Despite a largely positive critical reaction (although with qualifications), it didn’t really find much interest from audience, only grossing $22 million at cinemas around the world. Hopefully the new film will find a bit more success.

Will Ferrell Will Go On A North Pole Expedition In Ice Pack

April 5, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

will-ferrellWill Ferrell is not a man who immediately looks like he’d be a rugged adventurer setting off to do incredible and dangerous feats. However, it looks like he’s going to give it a go – or at least the character he’s planning to play in Ice Pack will – according to Deadline.

Loosely based on a true story, the film will follow, ‘the most unlikely snowy Arctic expedition in history —  when a group of Minnesota guys in 1968 acted on a whim hatched on a night of drinking and set off to ride snowmobiles to the North Pole.’ Despite not exactly being a typical crew, the adventurers managed to secure a bit of sponsorship and the support of the National Geographic Society, and went to to try and be the first people ever to make it to the North Poles on snowmobiles.

The backers have bought  Guy Lawson’s New York Times Magazine article, called, ‘Ice Pack: An Insurance Salesman and a Doctor Walk Into a Bar, and End Up at the North Pole.’ The plan is to build the movie around Ferrell, although it’s not clear when they plan to shoot it.
