Everything we’ve seen for Guillermo Del Toro’s haunted house tale, Crimson Peak, has been impressively gothic, and that’s certainly true of the new poster that’s been released and which you can see above.
Here’s the synopsis: ‘Legendary Pictures’ Crimson Peak, a co-production with Universal Pictures, is a haunting gothic horror story directed by the master of dark fairy tales, Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy series, Pacific Rim), written by del Toro, Matthew Robbins and Lucinda Coxon and starring Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain, Tom Hiddleston and Charlie Hunnam.
‘In the aftermath of a family tragedy, an aspiring author is torn between love for her childhood friend and the temptation of a mysterious outsider. Trying to escape the ghosts of her past, she is swept away to a house that breathes, bleeds…and remembers.’
It’ll be in cinemas in October.

In the past the ‘sissy’ was virtually the only representation of queer male sexuality that ever made it to the screen, and even then from the 1910s to 1950s the idea that they preferred boys to girls had to be hidden. The result was a complex stereotype, that in some movies was a comic character audiences loved to laugh at (and in some cases laugh with), and in others was a dangerous, destructive force out to destroy the ‘normal’ people.
