David Gordon Green Directing Our Brand Is Crisis With Sandra Bullock Set To Star

August 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

David-Gordon-GreenBack in December it was reported that Sandra Bullock was in talks for the George Clooney produced movie Our Brand Is Crisis. Now she’s officially committed to it and the film has a director, David Gordon Green, according to Variety.

Bullock apparently couldn’t fully decide whether to star, but was convinced after meeting Pineapple Express and All The Real Girls director David Gordon Green, based on the strength of his vision.

The political comedy is based on Rachel Boynton’s 2005 documentary, which focused on the use of American political campaign strategies in Bolivia by President Clinton’s former consultants James Carville and Stan Greenberg.

Peter Straughan wrote the screenplay, although it’s not clear when it will shoot.

David Yates May Return To The Harry Potter World For Fantastic Beasts

August 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

david-yatesEver since Warner Bros. announced that JK Rowling had agreed to script a film set in the world of Harry Potter – Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them – there’s been speculation about who would direct the first in this planned franchise.

Now it seems it’s be a familiar face, as Variety reports that David Yates is in talks to helm the movie. He is of course the man who helmed the last four Potter movies. Since Deathly Hallows was released, he’s circled many movies, and while his take on Tarzan is now in production, he’s had a surprising amount of difficulty getting projects off the ground, so perhaps a return to the Potter world isn’t too surprising.

The film will follow the adventures of the Newt Scamander, 70 years before the Harry Potter first arrives at Hogwarts, as he discovers the terrible beasties that feature in the textbook that Harry has to use during his time at school. The spin-off will introduce a new set of characters and creatures, although set in a Wizarding universe that will be familiar to HP fans.

Warner Bros. has set a November 18th, 2016 release date.

The Phallometer Featurette – Taking a look at the making of the Iris Prize nominated gay-themed short film

August 20, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

phallometer-slideOver the next few weeks we’ll be bringing you looks at some of the short films that are up for this year’s Iris Prize, the world’s largest international gay and lesbian short film prize which takes place in Cardiff, Wales in October. Last week we brought the newly announced list of films that are due to compete, as well as the trailer for one of the shorts, I Am Syd Stone.

Now we have a ‘making of…’ featurette for The Phallometer, which comes from Cibrail and The Passenger director Tor Iben, as well as the company behind the comedy Men To Kiss.

Here’s the short film’s synopsis: ‘A refugee is taken into custody at an open border crossing. During the interrogation, he admits to being gay and is subjected to an absurd entry examination, a so-called phallometric test. The story is based on facts.’

In case you were wondering, a phallometric test involves strapping a device to a man’s penis and then measuring how excited it gets when the subject is shown sexual material. Although it has always been controversial, since it was invented in the 1950s its been used in some countries to try and scientifically prove things such as whether somebody really is gay. For example it’s been used when somebody tries to claim asylum due to their sexuality, or if they say they can’t go into the military because they’re gay.

Frank Christian Marx, the actor and owner of the company behind The Phallometer, Ente Kross Film, tells us of the firm’s plans, “Our second film and first short film The Phallometer was just announced to be in the short list for the Iris Prize and we’re right now in the pre-production for our second feature film, Locked up, which we´re shooting in October… It will be a gay psychothriller, which is quiet rare in the LGBT genre I guess.”

The Iris Prize Festival takes places October 8th – 12th in Cardiff. [Read more…]

My Gay Roommate – Season 3, Ep 6: Coital Logistics – The gay web series has bedroom issues

August 20, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

my-gay-roommate-s3-ep6My Gay Roommate is great fun, with this latest season following Nick (Noam Ash) and his new roomie, Ed. However that’s not all, as the slightly surreal show has also had a cowboy coming out and getting into bed with our plucky hero.

However not everything is perfect with the lovers, as we see in the latest episode, Coital Logistics. And to sort it out they call on insanely hot porn star Levi Michaels.

Noam Ash told Huffpo, “In this episode Nick and the Cowboy are having some incompatibilities in the bedroom. Convinced he has the answers, Ed prepares a lecture on proper intimacy techniques and male coital logistics aided by none other than Levi Michaels himself, who reveals the science behind being a superstar power bottom and bestows his sexy Rounderbum undies on Nick. But things don’t go as planned, and the roommates find themselves tied and gagged as one of the characters gives the boys a final talking to.”

Take a look at the new episode below, and you can catch up on the rest of Season 3 by clicking here. [Read more…]

New Kink Trailer – James Franco looks into the world’s biggest BDSM site

August 20, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

kink-slideThe James Franco produced and Christina Voros directed Kink debuted back in January 2013 at Sundance, but it’s taken a while to get to a larger audience. However it should hopefully be reaching a wider audience soon.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Director Christina Voros and producer James Franco pull back the curtain on the fetish empire of Kink.com, the Internet’s largest producer of BDSM content. In a particularly obscure corner of an industry that operates largely out of public view, Kink.com’s directors and models strive for authenticity. In an enterprise often known for exploitative practices, Kink.com upholds an ironclad set of values to foster an environment that is safe, sane, and consensual. They aim to demystify the BDSM lifestyle, and to serve as an example and an educational resource for the BDSM community.

‘In kink, we discover not only a fascinating and often misunderstood subculture, but also, in a career far from the mainstream, a group of intelligent, charismatic, and driven people who really, truly love what they do.’

Covering both gay and straight kinkster, it’s a doc that might well be worth a look. Watch the new trailer below. [Read more…]

New Annie Trailer – Will the sun be coming out tomorrow for Jamie Foxx and Quvenzhane Wallis?

August 20, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

annie-trailer-slideWhile Annie is a well-loved musical, there are only two songs from it that most people know, and that’s something the new trailer for the 2014 version seems well aware of, ensuring we get plenty of It’s A Hard Knock Life and Tomorrow.

It’s also keen to show us that things have been updated to the modern day and the whole thing should be a little funkier (and with Will Smith and Jay-Z both involved with updating the score, that shouldn’t be too much of a surprise).

The plot also remains the same though, with orphan Annie (Quvenzhane Wallis) having a hard-luck life in the foul orphanage run by Miss Hannigan (Cameron Diaz). She’s then taken in by the filthy rich Benjamin Stacks (Jamie Foxx). In this version he’s running for office and initially just wants Annie so the press will see him being nice to an orphan, but he soon falls for the plucky youngster’s charms. But then Annie’s real parents are found, or are they?

Will Gluck is directing from his own screenplay, which was originally written by Aline Brosh McKenna and Emma Thompson. Annie is currently set for release December 25th, 2014. [Read more…]

Bound (Blu-ray Review)

August 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Starring: Jennifer Tilly, Gina Gershon, Joe Pantoliano
Director: Lilly Wachowski, Lana Wachowski
Running Time: 108 mins
Certificate: 18
Release Date: August 18th 2014 (UK)

Back before they were the directors of The Matrix and when Lana was known as Larry, The Wachowskis took the indie film world by storm with the stylish neo-noir Bound. Now the film has come to Blu-ray with a crisp HD print, which is perhaps a little duller than you might hope for a film where splashes of vivid colour are so important, but stills looks extremely good.

Corky (Gina Gershon) is an ex-con working as a handyman in an apartment when she meets the next door neighbours, the Mafia-linked Caesar (Joe Pantoliano) and his girlfriend Violet (Jennifer Tilly). The two women become lovers and hatch a plan to steal $2 million of the mob’s money that Caesar has in their possession. While they think they have everything planned out, the scheme starts to go awry when Caesar doesn’t act as expected. [Read more…]

Killing Season (Blu-ray Review)

August 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Robert De Niro, John Travolta
Director: Mark Steven Johnson
Running Time: 91 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: August 18th 2014 (UK)

It’s always a shame when you can see what a movie so desperately hopes to be, but it falls incredibly far short. Killing Season wants be a tense cat and mouse thriller, with a serious backdrop looking at the horrors of war and the way it affects people after the battle is over.  Unfortunately it ends up just being a bit silly and over the top.

It’s a particular shame as this is the first time Robert de Niro and John Travolta have appeared on-screen together. [Read more…]
