Seventh Son Trailer – Plus a new poster for the Jeff Bridges fantasy

July 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Young Adult fantasy has proved a difficult genre, as while success can be enormous, more often than not they barely make a dent at the box office. However after spending decades trying to get it off the ground, Jeff Bridges will be hoping audiences take to Seventh Son. Now we get our first taste with a trailer and poster.

Here’s the official synopsis: ‘In a time long past, an evil is about to be unleashed that will reignite the war between the forces of the supernatural and humankind once more.

‘Master Gregory (Jeff Bridges) is a knight who had imprisoned the malevolently powerful witch, Mother Malkin (Julianne Moore), centuries ago.  But now she has escaped and is seeking vengeance.  Summoning her followers of every incarceration, Mother Malkin is preparing to unleash her terrible wrath on an unsuspecting world.

‘Only one thing stands in her way: Master Gregory. In a deadly reunion, Gregory comes face to face with the evil he always feared would someday return.  Now he has only until the next full moon to do what normally takes years: train his new apprentice, Tom Ward (Ben Barnes) to fight a dark magic unlike any other.

‘Man’s only hope lies in the seventh son of a seventh son.’

It’ll be out later this year. [Read more…]

Starring: T'Nia Miller, Kyle Treslove, Robyn Kerr, Simon Savory
Director: Campbell X
Running Time: 91 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: July 8th 2013

There aren’t that many movies about British black lesbians, so this film has an underserved and worthwhile subject going for it to start with. The film follows JJ (T’Nia Miller), a self-described ‘butch dyke’ who’s trying to find love and happiness in London.

She spends much of her time hanging around with gay best friend Seb (Kyle Treslove), who also acts as her assistant in her wedding photography business. JJ starts to date the more lipstick lesbian Elle (Robyn Kerr), although the road to true love certainly doesn’t run smooth. Elle is rather temperamental, takes umbrage at JJ’s friendship with Seb and has a few secrets about what she does for a living. [Read more…]

The Boxtrolls Teaser – The Laika animated movie shows its gay-friendly colours

July 3, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

I can already hear the anti-gay idiots getting the knickers in a twist about this trailer, which suggests that families aren’t always mother, father and kids in a traditional nuclear family setting. That’s especially true as it comes from Laika, which last year presented the first openly gay animated character in ParaNorman.

The Boxtrolls certainly looks like it’s going to be a fun if unusual movie – although we wouldn’t expect anything else from Laika. It’s all about how families comes in many different forms, straight, gay, extended and, err, troll.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The new 3D animated feature from Laika Studios tells the tale of the Boxtrolls, monsters who live underneath the charming streets of Cheesebridge, who crawl out of the sewers at night to steal what the townspeople hold most dear: their children and their cheeses. At least, that’s the legend the townspeople have always believed. In truth, the Boxtrolls are a community of lovable oddballs who are raising as one of their own an abandoned and orphaned human boy named Eggs. When the Boxtrolls are targeted by a villainous exterminator who is bent on eradicating them, Eggs must venture aboveground to save them, where he teams with an adventurous young girl to save not only the Boxtrolls but the soul of Cheesebridge.’

We’ve got a bit of a wait to see the movie, as it’s not set for release until September 26th, 2014. [Read more…]

Final Pacific Rim Trailer – Concentrating on the human angle

July 3, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The last couple of trailer for Pacific Rim have concentrated on the monsters, robots and action, and while there’s still a lot of that in this final promo, it also wants to remind us there’s a human side too. There’s also a fun vid featuring Ron Perlman as a monster parts salesman which you can watch below!

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, and starring Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi and Ron Perlman, comes the sci-fi action adventure, Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ PACIFIC RIM.

‘When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that took millions of lives and consumed humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots. But in the face of the relentless Kaiju, even the Jaegers prove defenseless.

‘On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes – a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) – who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.’

It’s out in cinemas on July 12th.

The Counselor Teaser – Brief look at Michael Fassbender & Brad Pitt in Ridley Scott’s movie

June 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Counselor isn’t out until October, but it seems Fox wants us all to be impressed by its style and pedigree, so they’ve released a short teaser showing off the star names both in front of and behind the camera.

Directed by Ridley Scott from a script by Cormac McCarthy, the film stars Michael Fassbender, Penélope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, Javier Bardem, Brad Pitt and John Leguizamo.

The movie tells the story of a lawyer (Fassbender), who finds himself in over his head when he gets involved in drug trafficking. And as this teaser shows, it’s all going to be looking extremely slick (and with pet cheetahs, which is a bonus). [Read more…]

Fresh One Direction: This Is Us Trailer – The boys can’t help but get shirtless and slightly homoerotic

June 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Acclaimed documentary filmmaker Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me) has been following the One Direction Boys around for This Is Us.

As you probably know, One Direction – Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson – were discovered by Simon Cowell on the The X Factor in 2010. The band quickly gained a following to become one of the competition’s all-time most popular acts, finishing in the final three and garnering a gigantic and loyal fanbase along the way. In March 2012, One Direction’s debut album, Up All Night, made US history, as it was the first time a UK group’s debut album entered the U.S. Billboard 200 chart at No. 1. The band has now sold over 29 million records worldwide.

There’s a lot of love out there for the boys, which Sony Pictures is hoping will follow-them into cinemas for this mix of concert footage and behind-the-scenes look at the lads’ lives. It’ll hit UK cinemas on August 29th. [Read more…]
