Robert Pattinson Would Do More Twilight If Edward Goes Gay

November 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

We’re pretty certain he was joking, but Robert Pattinson – who seems pretty happy the Twilight movies are coming to an end – has said in an interview that he’d be happy to continue playing Edward Cullen, but only if the character comes out as gay.

Pattinson and Taylor Lautner were talking to Ellen Degeneres on her chat show, and she asked them whether there was any chance of more movies after The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 is released (it’s out Nov 16th). Pattinson commented, “I was also thinking another way to do it would be to make it look like ‘Will and Grace,’ where Edward turns gay.” However he still thinks Edward should stay with Bella and raise their kid.

There have been numerous rumours about Summit Entertainment trying to continue the franchise beyond the films based on Stephenie Meyer’s bestselling quartet, although it’s difficult to imagine Pattinson signing on for more, as he’s often seemed rather ambivalent about the movies. The latest rumours have surrounded the idea that a new film would concentrate on the Wolf Pack, although there’s been no confirmation of this. As the movies are massive moneyspinners it’s difficult not to imagine them trying to continue it in some way – although we’d imagine it won’t involve Edward going gay.

And just for Twilight fans, take a look at a nice promo shot of Pattinson as Edward, which was released ahead of the new movie.

Jurassic Park 3D Trailer – Just imagine the dinosaurs coming at you

November 9, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Trailers for 3D re-releases on the internet are slightly awkward because of course they’re in 2D, so you just have to imagine there’s an extra dimension jumping out at you. That’s not too difficult with Jurassic Park, which had dinos coming to get you even in two-dimensions. The trailer for next April’s 3D conversion has now arrived, which is a good reminder of why this is such a fun film, which became the highest grossing movie ever on its initial release.

It’s one of the few 3D re-releases you can imagine really offering something extra, and hopefully they’ll have done it well (I can’t imagine Spielberg approving it if they haven’t). Will you be going to watch it when it arrives back in cinemas next spring?).

So take a look to see Sam Neill and co. be first amazed and then terrified when they arrives on John Hammond’s prehistorically bountiful island.

First World War Z Trailer – Brad Pitt faces zombies on an epic scale

November 9, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

World War Z may have had a troubled production, with massive reshoots that saw the entire end of te movie needing to be rejigged, but on the evidence of this trailer we may be in for a treat, with a zombie apocalypse told on a larger scale than we’ve ever seen before. And these are the fast moving, 28 Days Later style zombie, who in the trailer act like a mass force of inhumanity.

The story revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself. Merielle Enos plays Gerry’s wife Karen Lane; Daniella Kertesz is his comrade in arms, Segen.

The movie is due out June 21st 2013 (the reshoots delayed it from a planned Christmas 2012 release), so expect plenty more footage and info before then.

Mark Wahlberg Confirmed For Transformers 4

November 9, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Just yesterday we reported that it appeared Michael Bay had been listening to voices on the internet and was considering Mark Wahlberg for Transformers 4. Now it’s been confirmed that Wahlberg is indeed going to star in the movie, and we also get our first look at the logo for the movie.

In a press release on Michael Bay’s website, it’s revealed that, ‘After an exceptionally successful collaboration on the upcoming Pain and Gain, Michael Bay has cast Academy Award®-nominee Mark Wahlberg in the highly anticipated TRANSFORMERS 4. The film will hit theaters June 27th, 2014.’

“Mark is awesome. We had a blast working on Pain and Gain and I’m so fired up to be back working with him. An actor of his caliber is the perfect guy to re-invigorate the franchise and carry on the Transformers’ legacy,” said Bay.

There’s no news on the plot or the character Wahlberg will play, but shooting will star in the spring and we do know that this will be a continuation rather than a reboot, although it will have a completely new human cast.

Jon Hamm & Daniel Radcliffe Bathe Together In A Young Doctor’s Notebook Photos

November 5, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Sky Arts 1 certainly got a impressive cast for its four-part mini-series A Young Doctor’s Notebook, with Jon Hamm and Daniel Radcliffe both signed up to play older and younger versions of the same character (we won’t bother wondering how 5ft 5in Radcliffe grew into 6ft Hamm over the years). Now some images from the series have shown up online, including one showing the two stars taking a bath together!

Here’s the synopsis: ‘A Young Doctor’s Notebook is a four-part comedy drama based on a collection of short stories by the celebrated Russian writer and playwright Mikhail Bulgakov. The drama recounts Bulgakov’s semi-autobiographical experiences as a young doctor working in the small village of Muryovo at the dawn of the Russian Revolution in 1917.

‘Recounting from his notebooks, the Doctor considers his life and career as he tries to treat the patients of a village that is struggling to enter the modern age. Dealing not only with the superstitious and poorly educated patients but with his own inner demons, the doctor reveals doubts about his own competence and struggles with the immense burden of medical responsibility.

‘Jon Hamm takes on the role of the older doctor, who has a series of bleakly comic exchanges with his younger self, played Daniel Radcliffe.’

Keep The Lights On (Cinema)

November 1, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Thure Lindhardt, Zachary Booth, Julianne Nicholson
Director: Ira Sachs
Running Time: 101 mins
Certificate: 18
Release Date: November 2nd 2012

Keep The Lights On comes to the UK after an incredibly well-received run on the festival circuit and very strong reviews for its US release. So does it live up to the hype that’s suggested this is the gay-themed film of the year? It pretty much does.

There’s been a lot of comparisons between last year’s Brit flick Weekend and Keep The Lights On. There are indeed quite a few similarities between the movies, even if one takes place over two days and the other 10 years. They share a similar tone and style, so that rather than a traditional narrative it’s like peeping in on two gay people’s lives, almost documentary style. They also share the fact that while for years most gay-themed films have centred on issues of identity, both Weekend and Keep The Lights on are about living a gay life once those questions have largely been settled. Starring: David Kato
Director: Katherine Fairfax Wright, Malika Zouhali-Worrall
Running Time: 87 mins
Certificate: 12A
Release Date: November 2nd 2012

If you’re gay, there’s probably no movie you can watch this Halloween season that will scare you more than Call Me Kuchu, a documentary about life in the Ugandan LGBT community, focussing on activist David Kato. Whilst we in the West still have issues with homophobia and need to fight for things like marriage equality, in Uganda the debate isn’t even about whether gay sex should be legalised, it’s about whether homosexuals should be allowed to live. Disney Buys Lucasfilm & Plans New Star Wars Film For 2015

October 31, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

In a move that caught Hollywood slightly off guard, Disney has announced that it is buying LucasFilm for $4.05 billion in stock and cash, and that they are developing a seventh Star Wars movie for release in 2015. George Lucas will not direct as he is pretty much retiring (although will serve as a creative consultant), although it is not known yet who will take over at the helm.

Disney chairman Robert G. Iger commented, “Lucasfilm reflects the extraordinary passion, vision, and storytelling of its founder, George Lucas. This transaction combines a world-class portfolio of content including Star Wars, one of the greatest family entertainment franchises of all time, with Disney’s unique and unparalleled creativity across multiple platforms, businesses, and markets to generate sustained growth and drive significant long-term value.”

So yep, that means that not only are they looking at this in terms of making new movies, but also how they can expand the merchandising and the saga’s role at the company’s theme park. However it’s Star Wars’ future in film that most people care about. George Lucas has often said that he originally intended for there to be nine films, and as part of the deal, Disney gets his treatments for Episodes 7, 8, and 9. The first movie should come in 2015, with plans for a new films every 2-3 years after that. With Disney wanting to mine this for all it’s worth, there have also been suggestions they’ll be looking at how they can bring the expanded Star Wars universe onto the screen, perhaps creating an Avengers style series of linked spin-offs.

Here’s what George Lucas had to say, “For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next. It’s now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers. I’ve always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime. I’m confident that with Lucasfilm under the leadership of Kathleen Kennedy, and having a new home within the Disney organization, Star Wars will certainly live on and flourish for many generations to come. Disney’s reach and experience give Lucasfilm the opportunity to blaze new trails in film, television, interactive media, theme parks, live entertainment, and consumer products.”

Kathleen Kennedy, current Co-Chairman of Lucasfilm and longtime blockbuster producer of the likes of ET and Jurassic Park, will become President of Lucasfilm, reporting to Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn.

However while more Star Wars are promised, what about Indiana Jones? Well, that’s apparently a possibility, but it’s not as easy as a new Star Wars movie, because Paramount still has certain rights over the adventure series. It’s also worth noting that while Disney now owns the original six Star Wars films, they don’t have distribution rights. Fox has rights to the first film forever and the other five until 2020, although those hoping for box sets including all the movies may get their way, as Fox only gets a small sliver from its Star Wars distribution fee (about 6%) and so may be willing to negotiate with Disney.

In order to allay people’s fears, Lucas and Kathleen Kennedy took to the internet to talk about future plans for the Star Wars saga, so you can see what they had to say below.

Lana Wachowski Opens Up About Her Suicidal Feelings While Growing Up Transgender

October 24, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For a few long time, Lana and her brother Andy Wachowski – directors of the likes of The Matrix and Speed Racer – deliberately eschewed publicity and press, but recently, in the run up to the release of Cloud Atlas, Lana has reversed that policy. She’s not just opened up about her filmmaking, but also about her transition from living as a man to outwardly expressing her gender identity as a woman.

To acknowledge her stepping out as one of the most successful, high profile transgender people in the world, on October 20th she was given the Visibility Award at the Human Rights Campaign’s annual San Francisco gala dinner. At the event she gave an emotional speech, detailing the difficulties she faced growing up transgender, such as the times she contemplated suicide. Video of that speech has now appeared via THR, so you can watch the whole thing above.

She also spoke to the trade paper about why she’s decided to be more in the public eye and accept the award. Lana said, “They’ve [the HRC] been contacting me off and on for a while and I’ve always said no, I don’t do that sort of thing. But they happened to call again, which was interesting. I think they were reacting to the video that we posted. I said I don’t think I can do it, I don’t think I have time because the schedule was too difficult. But then, it just sort of worked out strangely that a hole opened up and I was going to be in San Francisco and I thought, well, it was just the universe saying I should do it. And my wife thought it was a good idea to do it now.”

As for the difficulties of giving the speech, she adds, “I knew that I would do this [open up about her life] eventually, but it was interesting that I didn’t want to inhabit the memory too closely. A lot of them are very painful memories. I had practiced the speech once before I went on with my partner and I cried several times while I was doing it, and she said, ‘Come on! You don’t want to be blubbering in front of 1,000 people in tuxedos.’

“So when I did it, I did try to have a little bit of distance from the actual emotion of the memory. And then when I wasn’t talking so much about myself, and I was thinking about someone who was like me when I was young, feeling that I was fulfilling the example that I was looking for when I was young.”

Take a look at the speech above, as it really is worth watching the whole thing.
