Kyle Chandler Up For Godzilla: King of the Monsters

February 23, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s taken a while, but things are now gearing up on the sequel to 2014’s Godzilla. The first cast member was revealed a couple of weeks ago when Stranger Things’ Millie Bobby Brown was announced as part of the cast.

Now Variety reports that Kyle Chandler has joined her. Chandler is usually a good choice, having been great in everything from Friday Night Lights and Super 8 to Wolf Of Wall Street and the recent Oscar nominee, Manchester By The Sea.

It also shouldn’t be too much of a shock that he will be playing Brown’s father. The exact plot is being kept under wraps, but as the title suggest, while Godzilla will be the king, the sequel will be introducing us to various other monsters, such as Mothra and and Rodan.

Michael Dougherty is directing and also co-wrote the script for the movie with Zach Shields. It’s expected to shoot this year for release in March 2019. Then in 2020, we’re getting a real monster mash-up, with Godzilla Vs. Kong.

Alfie Allen & Yvonne Strahovski Join Shane Black’s The Predator

February 23, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There are still plenty of people sceptical that yet another attempt to reboot the Predator franchise will work. However, this time there is hope, as Shane Black (Iron Man 3, The Nice Guys) is writing and directing the film.

Boyd Holbrook, Jacob Tremblay, Olivia Munn, Trevante Rhodes, Keegan-Michael Key, Sterling K. Brown and Thomas Jane are already set to star. They’ve now been joined by Chuck and Dexter’s Yvonne Strahovski, as well as Game Of Thrones’ Alfie Allen.

Not a vast amount is known about the plot, although Holbrook will be the main character, with Strahovski as his ex-wife. They come into conflict again when their son (Tremblay) is drawn into the battle between Holbrook and an alien creature. It’s now clear who Allen will be.

Shooting has just started in Vancouver, with a February 2018 release date set.

Stray: Episode 1 – A gay guy and a nerdy white guy start a bromance in the new web series

February 21, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

We haven’t had too many good gay-themed web series to post in the last few weeks. But now a new one has started, Stray, which has just released its first episode, with plenty more to come.

The show, ‘Is a bromantic comedy in which Jay, a brash gay dude, and Rich, a nerdy straight guy, navigate sexuality in New York City.’ In the first episode, ‘A case of mistaken identity makes for an awkward reunion in the first episode of STRAY.’ And it certainly does get awkward, with the straight guy wondering why the gay guy is blindfolded and in his underwear!

You can take a look at Episode 1 of Stray below. Enjoy! [Read more…]

The Crying Game: 25th Anniversary Edition (Blu-ray Review) – Neil Jordan’s classic returns

February 21, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Forest Whitaker, Jay Davidson, Miranda Richardson, Stephen Rea
Director: Neil Jordan
Running Time: 112 mins
Certificate: 18
Release Date: February 20th 2017 (UK)

Is 25 years long enough for something not to be considered a spoiler? Well, just in case, don’t read this review if you don’t want to know the ‘twist’ of The Crying Game. That said, I highly suspect that due to cultural changes in the last quarter of a century, it won’t be quite as much of a surprise as it was for most audience members in 1992.

The Crying Game opens with British soldier Jody (Forest Whitaker) getting kidnapped by the IRA in Northern Ireland. They demand that the UK government release one of their top men who’s recently been detained, in exchange for the soldier’s life.

However, one of the kidnappers, Fergus (Stephen Rea), unexpectedly starts to bond with his captive, even though he knows they may have to kill him. Jody tells Fergus about his lover, the beautiful Dil (Jaye Davidson), and asks him to check she’s alright if the worst comes to the worst. [Read more…]

Emma Watson Sings ‘Belle’ In Beauty & The Beast Opening Number Clip

February 21, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While the new live-action Beauty & The Beast will be longer than the 1991 Disney animated classic, the marketing has been keen to show off the similarities. The first full trailer was an almost shot-for-shot do-over of the one for the animated movie, and now a clip of the opening number has arrived, which suggests it will be almost exactly the same too, except live-action.

There are the same shots, the same characters and the same feel, with the main difference being it’s Emma Watson’s vocals rather than Paige O’Hara’s. You can take a look at it below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” is a live-action re-telling of the studio’s animated classic which refashions the classic characters from the tale as old as time for a contemporary audience, staying true to the original music while updating the score with several new songs. “Beauty and the Beast” is the fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior and realize the kind heart and soul of the true Prince within.

‘The film stars: Emma Watson as Belle; Dan Stevens as the Beast; Luke Evans as Gaston, the handsome, but shallow villager who woos Belle; Oscar® winner Kevin Kline as Maurice, Belle’s eccentric, but lovable father; Josh Gad as Lefou, Gaston’s long-suffering aide-de-camp; Golden Globe® nominee Ewan McGregor as Lumiere, the candelabra; Oscar nominee Stanley Tucci as Maestro Cadenza, the harpsichord; Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette, the feather duster; six-time Tony Award® winner Audra McDonald as Madame Garderobe, the wardrobe; Oscar nominee Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, the mantel clock; and two-time Academy Award® winner Emma Thompson as the teapot, Mrs. Potts.

‘Directed by Oscar® winner Bill Condon from a screenplay based on the 1991 animated film, the film is produced by Mandeville Films’ David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman with eight-time Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken, who won two Academy Awards® (Best Original Score and Best Song) for the 1991 animated film, providing the score, which will include new recordings of the original songs written by Menken and Howard Ashman, as well as several new songs written by Menken and three-time Oscar winner Tim Rice. “Beauty and the Beast” will be released in UK Cinemas March 2017.’ [Read more…]

Brain On Fire Trailer – Chloe Moretz falls into madness in the true-life tale

February 21, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Synopsis: ‘One morning, 24-year-old Susannah Cahalan woke up in a hospital bed. She couldn’t speak. She couldn’t move. And she had no idea how she got there. Based on Cahalan’s bestselling memoir Brain on Fire: My Month of Madness, director Gerard Barrett’s adaptation captures the horrifying experience of one woman’s unexplained descent into madness and the medical miracle it took to pull her back from the brink.

‘Fresh out of journalism school and ready to embark on adult life, Susannah (Chloë Grace Moretz) already seemed to have it all: her dream job at the New York Post, supportive co-workers (Tyler Perry and Jenny Slate), a devoted boyfriend (Thomas Mann), and a loving family (Richard Armitage and Carrie-Anne Moss). Then, almost overnight, this ingénue went from one of the Post’s most reliable reporters to an unstable, paranoid shell of her former self.

‘Plagued by auditory hallucinations and memory loss, doctors dismissed her condition with a diagnosis of partying too hard and stress. But as her condition worsened, the stakes grew higher, and the race to find an answer became a matter of life and death.’

Alien: Covenant Cast & Crew Pic Shows Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston & First Look At James Franco

February 21, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Prometheus may have resulted in some grumbling from critics and audiences, but it was certainly a success at the box office, grossing more than $400 million. It meant that Fox wanted another movie, but they also wanted a few changes, so while Michael Fassbender got to stay, most of the other elements have been jettisoned in favour of what’s said will be a more ‘traditional’ alien movie.

A new cast & crew pic has arrived, which gives us a fresh look at Fassbender, the new lead, Katherine Waterston, as well as our first official view of James Franco in the film, who is rumoured to be playing Ellen Ripley’s father.

Here’s the brief synopsis: ‘Set as the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with Prometheus, Alien: Covenant connects directly to Ridley Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. It begins with the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy. There, the crew discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.’

The movie will be in cinemas next May.

The First Han Solo Star Wars Story Cast Photo Arrives As Principal Photography Begins

February 21, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

In case anyone was wondering whether Alden Ehrenreich has the right look to be Han Solo, the first cast photo has arrived, which actually shows him to be a better ringer for a young Harrison Ford than you might expect. The pic has arrived to mark the start on principal photography on the currently untitled Han Solo Star Wars Story on February 20th at Pinewood Studios.

According to the press release, ‘The movie will explore the duo¹s adventures before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, including their early encounters with that other card-playing rogue from a galaxy far, far away, Lando Calrissian. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are directors co-piloting the movie, with a cast that includes Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, Thandie Newton, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge, with Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca.

“Watching such inspired people from all over the world, with such unique voices, come together for the sole purpose of making art, is nothing short of miraculous,” Lord and Miller said. “We can’t think of anything funny to say, because we just feel really moved, and really lucky.”‘

The untitled Han Solo Star Wars Story is set for release in May, 2018.

Crush Of The Day: Furry Nico Tortorella Gets Sexy, Shirtless & Shows A Little Bit more

February 20, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Pan/bisexual actor and model Nico Tortorella is sex on legs. I don’t care whether you like hairy men or not, the guy is so hot it’s almost ridiculous.

He’s also not show about showing a little skin – and God bless him for it. He’s been stripping down for a very sexy shoot for Rogue Magazine, where he’s not afraid of getting his shirt off, pulling his trousers down and letting us all see what he’s got at the bottom of his very furry treasure trail. Photographer Samuel Ramirez captured the shots, and there’s no doubt there’s more than a little gay subtext to them.

The Following and Younger star Tortorella was recently cast as Lyle Menendez in Lifetime’s planned real-crime movie about The Menendez Brothers, who became a media sensation when they were put on trial for the murder of their parents. Take a look at the sexy pics of Nico below. [Read more…]

Fresh King Arthur: Legend of the Sword Trailer – Charlie Hunnam takes on the legendary tale

February 20, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While it looked for a while like Warner Bros. thought they had a flop with King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword and were going to dump the movie in a graveyard slot, they seem to have warmed to the movie. It’s now getting a prime May release date, and the hype is growing with the release of a new trailer.

Charlie Hunnam, Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, Djimon Hounsou, Aidan Gillen, Jude Law and Eric Bana star in the movie, which will follow the King in ‘an iconoclastic take on the classic Excalibur myth, tracing Arthur’s journey from the streets to the throne. When the child Arthur’s father is murdered, Vortigern (Jude Law), Arthur’s uncle, seizes the crown. Robbed of his birthright and with no idea who he truly is, Arthur comes up the hard way in the back alleys of the city. But once he pulls the sword from the stone, his life is turned upside down and he is forced to acknowledge his true legacy…whether he likes it or not.”

The movie is set for release in May. The movie was originally set to be the start of a whole Knights Of The Roundtable franchise, with each movie focussing on a different knight. At the moment that’s been put on the backburner, but expect it to be resurrected if Legend Of The Sword is a success. [Read more…]

Call Me A Ghost (Gay Adult Short Film Review) – Can porn explore sadness?

February 19, 2017 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Director: Noel Alejandro
Running Time: 18 mins
Certificate: NR
Release Date: Out Now

A few months ago we reviewed explicit filmmaker Noel Alejandro’s short film Thank You, which impressed us by creating porn that felt more grounded and real than most. Now he’s back with Call Me A Ghost, which brings a touch of the supernatural to hardcore gay movies.

However, perhaps the most surprising thing is that it’s porn where the main character is sad. Mixing sadness and depression with sex isn’t unheard of in other sorts of movies – often shown as an act of desperation or the need to feel something, with the actual sex depicted as a negative thing. Things are different here, with the sex bringing connection and erotic charge. It may not ‘solve’ the main character’s melancholia, but neither is it depicted as the symptom of something bad. Gay Short Film Showcase: Lunch – Can a street performer impress a guy with his feats?

February 19, 2017 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Orion Griffith has made quite a name for himself with his feats of strength and acrobatics, as well as impressing in a recent Broadway production of Pippin. In Lunch he once more gets to show off his skills, and very good they are too.

In the film, ‘A young man plans to relax in the park next to his office, but a zealous street performer has plans of his own.’ However, it turns out things aren’t quite as they appear.

It’s a cute little movie, which at only three-minutes long certainly doesn’t outstay its welcome. Take a look at the very sweet film below.
