Matthew McConaughey Will Be Born to Run

January 29, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

matthew-mcconaughey-magic-mikeMatthew McConaughey is getting his running shoes on – or actually he’s taking them off – as he’s joined the adaptation of Christopher McDougall’s bestselling non-fiction book, Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Super Athletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen, according to Variety.

The book, ‘follows a journalist and often-injured runner who headed for Mexico’s Copper Canyons to find out how the Tarahumara Indians honed the ability to run hundreds of miles without rest or injury.’

McDougall begins to learn the secrets of the Indians barefoot running talents as he prepares to take part in a 50-mile race against the tribe and a number of American runners, including an ultra-marathoner, a young surfer and another barefoot running prodigy.

The book sold more than 2 million copies just in the US and helped spark a ‘barefoot’ running craze.

Matthew Michael Carnahan (World War Z) wrote the screenplay, although no director is involved at the moment.

Brad Pitt Reteaming With Angelina Jolie For Africa

January 29, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

brad-pittIt appears the Pitt-Jolies and on a bit of a world tour, as having recently spent time in Europe with Angelina directing and co-starring alongside hubby Brad for the upcoming By The Sea, they’re now likely to head together to the Dark Continent as Pitt is in talks to star in Jolie’s Africa, according to TheWrap.

Brad would be a good fit for the lead role of real-life figure Richard Leakey, who’s perhaps best known internationally for his work as an paleoanthropologist, investigating and finding fossils from some of the earliest human ancestors. However the film is more interested in his work helping to rein in elephant and rhino poaching, which was threatening to ensure the animals’ extinction in only a few years. Eric Roth (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Forrest Gump, The Insider) has come up with the script.

Jolie previously commented, “I’ve felt a deep connection to Africa and its culture for much of my life, and was taken with Eric’s beautiful script about a man drawn into the violent conflict with elephant poachers who emerged with a deeper understanding of man’s footprint and a profound sense of responsibility for the world around him.”

Although nothing is set in stone, it appears they’re hoping to shoot Africa this summer.

Colin Farrell Is Impressed With Ewan McGregor’s Humility About His Large Penis

January 28, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ewan-mcgregor-colin-farrellIt turns out that Colin Farrell doesn’t just like Ewan McGregor’s penis, he’s a big fan of the Scottish actor’s whole attitude towards what he has between his legs. Who knows, perhaps Farrell will start a fan club.

Okay, we’re exaggerating, but it’s Colin’s fault as in the latest issue of Nylon Guys he’s quoted as saying, “I don’t think Ewan is as proud of his penis as most men who are as well hung would—or should—or could be. I think that’s the greatest demonstration of his innate humility, that he doesn’t wear it like a badge of honor.”

While some are asking how Farrell know so much about McGregor’s man bits, it’s not like Ewan has exactly kept them hidden in movies ranging from The Pillow Book and Velvet Goldmine to Trainspotting and Young Adam. Colin may also have been been able to catch a glimpse when they worked together on Woody Allen’s Cassandra’s Dream.

And of course many also know what Farrell is packing from the sex tape which circulated a few years ago.

Gay-Themed Short Film Johnny Seeks Funding For Its Tale Of A Young Prostitute & A Lonely Man

January 28, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

johnny-short-filmWe’re big fans of gay-themed short film here at BGPS and now a new one is seeking $10,000 in an IndieGogo crowdfunding drive to get the film made. The short is called Johnny, and it was written by and will star Brandon Crowder, who’s also set to star in another short that was recently looking for funding, Pick Up

Here’s the short’s synopsis: ‘A young male prostitute named Johnny (played by Brandon Crowder) is hired by Dave, a lonely and conflicted older man, to spend a night with him in a motel room and be his first sexual experience with another man.

‘Dave has spent his entire life trying to outrun his sexual attraction to other men. A devoted husband and father, Dave has carefully constructed a life he hoped would make him happy. But the harder Dave tries to force himself to be the man he believes he should be, the harder it is for him to resist becoming the man he’s secretly always been.

‘And as it turns out, Dave is not the only one with a secret, and the intimate night the two men share forces Johnny to come face-to-face with a haunting moment from his past that he thought he’d left behind.

‘JOHNNY is a story about finding the strength and courage that it takes to accept responsibility for the choices you have made and the person you have become.’ Micah Stuart will direct.

Crowder recently told Huffpo, “We live in an exciting time for LGBT stories being depicted on film, and great strides have been made in the prevalence of LGBT characters represented in mainstream media. Film in particular has an incredible ability to give an audience the opportunity to experience life from a perspective outside of their own reality. I want to share LGBTQ stories like JOHNNY in the hopes that I can contribute to a more nuanced and inclusive understanding of the complexity of the human experience.”

If you want to watch the trailer and maybe donate, head over to IndieGoGo. [Read more…]

Cabaret Oscar Winner Joel Grey Comes Out As Gay At The Age Of 82

January 28, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

joel-greyEver since he played the sexually ambiguous Master Of Ceremonies in Bob Fosse’s film version of Cabaret people have been assuming that actor Joel Grey was gay – despite the fact he was married and the father of Dirty Dancing actress Jennifer Grey.

However now, at the age of 82, he’s fully come to terms with his sexuality and outed himself in an interview with People, saying, “All the people close to me have known for years who I am. [Yet] it took time to embrace that other part of who I always was… I don’t like labels, but if you have to put a label on it, I’m a gay man.”

Grey says that from a young age, “I came to realize, along with being attracted to girls, I had similar feelings for boys.”

However he never really dealt with that side of himself until after being married for 24 years and having two children.

His daughter Jennifer added her support, saying, “I feel very happy for my dad that he has come to a point in his life where he feels safe and comfortable enough to declare himself in a public way as a gay man. Mostly because the more people are free to own their true nature and can hopefully come closer to love and accept themselves as they really are, no matter what age, no matter how long it takes, to finally be free of the lies or half truths, it is freedom.”

As well as his Oscar-winning role in Cabaret, Grey is very familiar for guest roles on endless TV shows, as well as appearing in Dancer In The Dark and having an extremely extensive theatre career.

Liam Hemsworth Wanted For Independence Day Sequel

January 28, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

liam-hemsworthAfter a very, very long time in development, the planned sequel to Independence Day is creeping towards production, and as proof they really intend to go ahead this time, The Wrap reports that Liam Hemsworth has been offered a major role in the movie.

The previously rumoured Michael B. Jordan is also still in the mix (while there’s been no confirmation, the speculation is that he’ll play the son of Will Smith’s character from the first film). Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman are due to return for the film, which will shoot this year for release June 24, 2016.

There are no details on the plot, but it’s safe to say mankind will once more be threatened by aliens intent on humanity’s destruction. Emmerich has previously said, “The humans knew that one day the aliens would come back. And they know that the only way you can really travel in space is through wormholes. So for the aliens, it could take two or three weeks, but for us that’s 20 or 25 years….It’s a changed world. It’s like parallel history. [Humans] have harnessed all this alien technology. We don’t know how to duplicate it because it’s organically-grown technology, but we know how to take an antigravity device and put it in a human airplane.”

Kingsman: The Secret Service (Cinema Review)

January 27, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Colin Firth, Mark Strong, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Caine, Taron Egerton
Director: Matthew Vaughn
Running Time: 124 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: January 29th 2015

The idea of updating James Bond and making him a younger character has been done before – witness the Alex Cross films and even Jason Bourne. Matthew Vaughan’s attempt, with a script by Jane Goldman, could have worked in theory, but it doesn’t, because of disastrous shifts in tone, and dreadfully cynical product placements. Director Vaughan seems to have become so carried away with his Kick-Ass franchise that he has transposed the idea to Britain, but used pretty much the same formula. The result leaves a very nasty taste in the mouth, which is a shame, because there are a few strengths on display here. [Read more…]

ABC Plots Comedy Based On The Life Of Gay Activist & Author Dan Savage

January 27, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

dan-savageDan Savage is an interesting guy. He’s become one of the most vocal and prominent voices in the gay rights fight – and is often the guy called on when the media wants a comment from ‘the gays’, but he’s also a bit divisive, with his sometimes bulldog attitude managing to anger social conservatives (as you’d expect) as well as some within the LGBTQ community – particularly due to his penchant for personally attacking those who disagree with him.

That said he also has many gay fans, not least those who admire how he and his partner co-founded the It Gets Better project.

However the ABC TV network seems to think his life would make a good TV show as they’ve ordered a pilot for a currently untitled comedy show based on him. THR says the show will be ‘a single-camera semi-autobiographical entry based on the LGBT activist/boundary-pushing columnist’s life. It centers on a picture-perfect family that is turned upside down when the youngest son comes out of the closet. What seems like the end of their idyllic life turns out to be the beginning of a bright new chapter when everyone stops pretending to be perfect and actually starts being real.’

David Windsor and Casey Johnson will write the script for the pilot.

Of course, it’s still a long way from actually appearing on our TV screens, but it’s done well to make it to the pilot order stage.

Kid Cudi Really Wishes His Gay Kiss Wasn’t Cut From New Film, James White

January 27, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

kid-cudiMusician and actor Kid Cudi is pissed. Someone filmed him making out with another guy. However he’s not annoyed that they’re going to release it, he’s annoyed that they won’t.

He’s in Sundance to promote the premiere of the movie, called James White, and what he’s wants the world to know if that he wishes they hadn’t cut a scene on him kissing another guy from the film.

AllHipHop spoke to Kid Cudi, who said “I’m mad [Josh Mond, the director] cut out my kissing scenes with David [Call]…We made out so many times — and it was so good! That’s my only gripe [with the film].”

The movie, which also stars Cynthia Nixon and Christopher Abbott, is described as being ‘a frenetic coming of age story about a young New Yorker struggling to take control of his reckless, self destructive behavior in the face of momentous family challenges.’

Cudi has previously appeared in the likes of Need For Speed and Two Night Stand.

All-Female Ghostbuster Reboot Cast Announced, Including Melissa McCarthy & Kristen Wiig

January 27, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Kristen-WiigA couple of weeks ago it was rumoured that Melissa McCarthy was in talks to be one fourth of the long-gestating all-female Ghostbuster crew in Sony’s planned reboot of the 1980s franchise. Now the four women who will be battling the spooks have been announced and it does indeed include McCarthy, alongside Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon.

It appears none of them have signed on the dotted line, but THR suggests it’s just a matter of ironing out the details.

There’s still no news on the exact plot, but the women will certainly be going up against some supernatural foes. Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson are expected to appear, and if they can convince him, there’s still an outside shot Bill Murray will show up too.

Paul Feig will direct with a summer shoot planned.
