expendables-3-bd-coverThe boys are back, with The Expendables 3 arriving on DVD, Blu-ray, Digital Download and VOD in the UK on December 8th. And we’ve got three copies of the star-studded movie to give away on Blu-ray in this comp.

The Expendables 3 sees Barney (Sylvester Stallone), Christmas (Jason Statham) and the rest of the team come face-to-face with Conrad Stonebanks (Mel Gibson), co-founder of the original Expendables team. Having become too ruthless to be part of the mercenary team, Stonebanks became an illegal arms trader who Barney eventually killed… or so he thought.

Stonebanks, who eluded death before, is back and making it his mission to end The Expendables; but Barney has other plans. The latest mission in this saga of “big bruising and brutal action” (Sunday Mirror) becomes a clash of classic old-school versus high-tech expertise in the Expendables’ most personal battle yet.

Harrison Ford, Dolph Lundgren, Antonio Banderas, Wesley Snipes, Kelsey Grammer, Kellan Lutz, Terry Crews, Randy Couture and more star.

Vice Trailer – Bruce Willis and Thomas Jane get involved with androids

Vice-posterWill this be one of Bruce Willis’ good movies or one of his paycheck movies? The fact it’s going to iTunes in the US the same day it arrives in cinemas suggests the latter, but we’ll have to wait and see.

It’s Westworld on the beach – here’s the synopsis: ‘Julian Michaels (Bruce Willis) has designed the ultimate resort: VICE, where anything goes and the customers can play out their wildest fantasies with artificial inhabitants who look, think and feel like humans. When an artificial (Ambyr Childers) becomes self-aware and escapes, she finds herself caught in the crossfire between Julian’s mercenaries and a cop (Thomas Jane) who is hell-bent on shutting down Vice, and stopping the violence once and for all.’

It’ll be out in the US January 16th, but it’s not clear yet when it will arrive in the UK. [Read more…]

Dwayne Johnson Will Lend His Voice To Disney’s Moana

dwayne-johnsonJust a few weeks ago Disney announced a new animated movie, Moana, and they’re not wasting any time, as TheWrap reports that Dwayne Johnson has signed up to lend his voice to the movie (presumably in the five minutes between the 30,000 other movies he’s currently making).

The Little Mermaid team of Ron Clements and John Musker are behind the film, with Johnson playing a demigod call Maui. Set in the ancient South Pacific, the film is about young Moana, who is a born navigator who goes searching for a fabled island called Oceania. Her journey teams her with the legendary Maui. They traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, where they battle sea creatures, take in underwater worlds, and learn about ancient Polynesian folklore.

John Musker has commented, “Moana is indomitable, passionate and a dreamer with a unique connection to the ocean itself. She’s the kind of character we all root for, and we can’t wait to introduce her to audiences.”

It seems we’ll also get to hear Johnson sing, as he confirmed his casting with the tweet, ‘Excited to star as “Maui” in Disney’s next big animated musical, MOANA. Incredible story! **clears throat #TimeToSing’.

Will Smith, Jared Leto, Jai Courtney & More Confirmed For Suicide Squad

suicide-squad-cast-membersWhen it was rumoured Will Smith was in talk to star in Warner/DC’s Suidice Squad, many wondered if the info was wrong as traditionally he’s always wanted to be the star of the show rather than part of an ensemble, and he’s also shied away from playing villainous characters.

However it turns out the info was correct, as the studio has confirmed Smith will play Deadshot in the film. He’s not the only cast member now officially attached, as it turn out most of the other rumours were also true, with Jared Leto as the Joker, Jai Courtney as Boomerang (rather than Deadshot, as some previous reports suggested) and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Cara Delevingne was also rumoured for the latter role, but she’ll actually be sorceress Enchantress.

Another name mentioned was Tom Hardy. Many wondered whether that meant he’d be reprising Bane, or whether his Dark Knight involvement actually ruled him out. He will be in the movie though, playing the squad leader, Randall Flag.

The only one completely left out is Jesse Eisenberg, who previous rumours said would reprise his Batman Vs Superman role as Lex Luthor. However Warner doesn’t mention him in the announcement, although that doesn’t rule out the possibility of a cameo.

The movie revolved around an array of supervillains, who have all been captured but are offered the chance for redemption by taking on a mission from which none of them are expected to return alive.

David Ayer is set to direct, with an early 2015 shoot expected. An August 5th, 2016 release date has already been set.

Three Episode 1 – New gay-themed web series looks at the issues with long-term monogamy

three-ep1-picA brand new gay-themed web series has arrived, simply titled Three, which has launched its first episode, ‘The Worst Party in the History of the World’, and you can watch it below (along with the trailer for Episode 2).

The show deals with various topics, not least the issues with being in a long-term relationship, and whether monogamy in that situation is either feasible or desirable.

Writer/director Jeff Swafford recently told Huffpo, “I imagine a lot of people in long-term relationships deal with this issue in varying degrees, but it’s not really talked about. I wanted to create a series that reflects some of the challenges I’ve experienced in my own relationship as well as those of a few of my friends.”

There are six episodes in Season 1, which will be released over the next couple of months. The hope is to make a second season in early 2015.

Stained Glass Rainbows Trailer – Looking into the relationship between gay people and the church

However, that’s to ignore the fact many Christians believe in gay rights, and nor does it really deal with what the bible or even the major denominations say about homosexuality (despite what you may think, the Catholic Church’s official position is that being gay is fine, it’s just homosexual acts they have an issue with – which is admittedly extremely problematic).

The new documentary Stained Glass Rainbows takes a look at the subject, and you can watch the trailer below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Stained Glass Rainbows explores the most controversial subject facing America today: the collision between the LGBT community and the Christian church. Can gays be Christian? Is homosexuality a sin? Is there a gay gene? Is there such a thing as an ex-gay? Both families and churches are being torn apart over these divisive issues.

‘Stained Glass Rainbows brings together the voices of the left, the right, the middle, and helps bridge the gulf through its dialogue. From gay pride parades to anti-gay protests, Stained Glass Rainbows confronts the controversy of faith through the hearts and minds of people on both sides of this uncivil war.’

The filmmakers claim that the movie is ‘neither pro gay nor anti gay. Instead it examines the issues surrounding homosexuality and faith within a Christian context. How will you and your church respond to the LGBT people in your community?’ [Read more…]

Felicity Jones Gets Caught Up With Tom Hanks In Dan Brown’s Inferno

felicity-jonesFor quite a while now Ron Howard and Tom Hanks have both been attached to a third adaptation of Dan Brown’s Robert Langdon series, following Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons. More recently it was revealed that they hope to start shooting next April.

However what they don’t have yet is any cast members – barring Hanks of course. That looks like it’s about to change as Felicity Jones (Theory of Everything, Amazing Spider-man 2) is in early talks to star in Inferno.

In Brown’s novel, symbologist Robert Langdon once more get thrust into the heart of a mystery, this time revolving around medieval poet Dante Alghieri. However to make things a little more complicated Langdon wakes up in an Italian hospital with amnesia. He has no idea what’s going on but it soon becomes clear it has something to do with a global plague, as well as artefacts to do with Dante – and he may be the only one who can stop it (and if that sounds like James Bond with a university professor, it kind of is).

Ron Howard is directing from a screenplay by David Koepp.

Will Ferrell Plans To Get Shakespearean (Sort Of) In A New Comedy

will-ferrellFew people would think of Will Ferrell as being someone you’d cast in a great Shakespearean role, and he seems to agree, as he’s set to star in a comedy where he’ll send up that idea, according to Variety.

Sony Pictures has acquired the currently untitled pitch from Mosaic, with Will Ferrell set to star. David Guion and Michael Handelman will write the screenplay, which is set in the apparently highly-competitive world of a Shakespearean theatre company.

Now much more is known about the plot than that, but you can certainly see Ferrell having fun being over the top in some of Shakespeare’s greatest roles (I’m imagining Ron Burgundy meets Laurence Olivier)

Terminator Genisys Gets A Living Poster

Terminator-Genisys-cast-picAfter Jurassic World and Star Wars, another of the movies bidding to be a 2015 blockbuster has announced that its trailer is coming soon, and they’ve done it with a ‘living’ poster, which you can see below. The trailer itself meanwhile should be with us in Thursday.

A previous reported, the film ‘is set in 2029, when the Future War is raging and a group of human rebels has the evil artificial-intelligence system Skynet on the ropes. John Connor (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ Jason Clarke) is the leader of the resistance, and Kyle Reese (Divergent‘s Jai Courtney) is his loyal soldier, raised in the ruins of post apocalyptic California. As in the original film, Connor sends Reese back to 1984 to save Connor’s mother, Sarah (Game of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke), from a Terminator programmed to kill her so that she won’t ever give birth to John. But what Reese finds on the other side is nothing like he expected.’

Although that sounds pretty much like the original, things have changed as in this version Sarah Connor ‘was orphaned by a Terminator at age 9. Since then, she’s been raised by (brace yourself) Schwarzenegger’s Terminator—an older T-800 she calls “Pops”—who is programmed to guard rather than to kill. As a result, Sarah is a highly trained antisocial recluse who’s great with a sniper rifle but not so skilled at the nuances of human emotion.’

Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks Trailer – Cheyenne Jackson wants Gena Rowlands to dance

six-dance-lessons-slideIt’s not 100% clear whether the film version of Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks will retain the full LGBT themes of the play it’s based on, but with Cheyenne Jackson as one of the co-leads and gay icons such as Rita Moreno in the cast, it’s probably going to be worth a look either way. The trailer certainly makes it seems fun.

Based on the international hit play by Richard Alfieri which has played in 24 countries and in 14 languages, Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks is a touching and human, yet madcap comedy about a formidable retired woman, Lily Harrison (Gena Rowlands), who hires an acerbic dance instructor, Michael Minetti (Cheyenne Jackson), to give her private dance lessons – one per week for six weeks – in her gulf-front condo in St. Petersburg Beach, Florida.

What begins as an incompatible relationship blossoms into an intimate friendship as these two people from very different backgrounds reveal their secrets, fears, and joys while dancing the Swing, Tango, Waltz, Foxtrot, Cha-Cha, and Contemporary Dance. By the final lesson, Lily shares her most closely guarded secret and he shares his greatest gifts, his loyalty and compassion.

In the original play, some of the tension comes from the fact there’s an antagonism between a gay man and the wife of a Southern Baptist minister, although it’s not clear if that follows through in the movie (looking at the trailer there’s a good chance).

Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks is a comedy with music and dance about friendship and ageism and also stars Julian Sands, Oscar nominee Jacki Weaver, and Oscar winner Rita Moreno and is directed by Arthur Allan Seidelman.

‘Naked Filmmaker’ Romas Zabarauskas Gives Us More Reasons To Fund His Film With Nude Pics Of His Lead Actor

Denisas-Kolomyckis-Naked1-slideA few weeks ago we reported the news that 24-year-old Lithuanian filmmaker Romas Zabarauskas was hoping a novel method of rewarding people for backing his film would get his movie crowd-funded – naked selfies for anyone donating more than $50 to his film.

However while the Kickstarter for You Can’t Escape Lithuania has reached almost $15,000 (at the time of writing), it’s only got a couple of day to reach the $20,000 it needs to get funded. To help get it over the top, the lead star of the film, another openly gay Lithuanian artist, Denisas Kolomyckis, has decided to share his own naked pictures with the world.

Denisas comments, “I support Romas Zabarauskas’ movie in all-senses. If my naked butt can help the film to reach its goal, I’m ready to do it! This “going naked” (for the sake of art) campaign is a call to action for all those who believe that Eastern Europe needs to change and that LGBTQ rights should be respected everywhere.”

In You Can’t Escape Lithuania, Denisas Kolomyckis will be playing no one else but a fictional version of Romas Zabarauskas himself. The egocentric story goes like this: Romas is helping a good friend, an actress Indre (actress Irina Lavrinovic) to escape Lithuania after she murders her mother and steals her money. Romas also takes his hot Mexican boyfriend Carlos (actor Adrian Escobar) along for the ride. On the road, Romas gives Indre an ultimatum: if she doesn’t agree to perform in one last experimental film, he will turn her over to the police…

Lithuania is an Eastern European country with 3 million inhabitants. Her rapidly growing economy still struggles to fully acknowledge LGBT rights. Since 2010, a controversial Protection of Minors law, similar to Russia’s anti-gay legislation, has been in force. Both Romas and Denisas are one of the few openly gay artists, actively fighting against homophobia and speaking up for LGBT equality in the region.

More Scenes From A Gay Marriage (US DVD Review)

More Scenes From A Gay Marriage starts out with a dangerous gambit. As its title suggests, it’s a follow-up to Scenes From A Gay Marriage, a film that asked us to root for its main characters, Darren (Matt Riddlehoover) and Joe (Jared Allman), to get together by the end. However the sequel opens with trouble in paradise as the duo have now decided they’re going to split up.

So much for happily ever after! But then, that’s part of what the movie is about – suggesting that quite often films give us a neatly packaged and unrealistic version of reality, and that real life is often more messy. [Read more…]
