Apropos Of Nothing: The Eastenders Cast Strip Down For A Cheeky Charity Calendar

November 17, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

eastenders-calendar-ben-hardyFor many years now in the UK, the soap Hollyoaks has produced a calendars where its buff male and female cast showed off their wares. However Eastenders hasn’t exactly been known for the beauty of its cast, but this year they’ve decided they’ve got the goods to produce a calendar where the cast members are ‘scantily clad’.

That includes the very cute and buff Ben Hardy who plays Peter Beale (and who has previously been on the cover of Attitude), who you can see above, as well as Davood Ghadami and 87-year-old June Brown, who are belwo.

EastEnders’ executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins comments, “When we developed our calendar storyline featuring so many of Albert Square’s residents as viewers have never seen them before, it seemed such a shame not to share the fun with our audience. “It’s been a long time since EastEnders released a calendar, and this is the perfect opportunity for EastEnders fans to get hold of something a little bit special while raising money for such a worthwhile cause.”

You can head here to buy a copy, and half the cash from sales will go to BBC Children in Need. [Read more…]

Colin Farrell Calls Out Ireland For The Fact His Gay Brother Had To Go Overseas To Marry

November 17, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

colin-farrell-eamon-farrellWhile an increasing number of European Countries have given full marriage equality to gay people, there’s no doubt that the change is coming slower in many of the nations where the Catholic Church still exerts a major influence (for example Italy still has no legal recognition of same sex couples at all).

Ireland has made massive steps forward in the last couple of decades (almost incredibly, homosexuality was only decriminalised there in 1993) and for the last couple of years it’s had civil partnerships (although these fall short of offering the same protections married couples gets). Marriage Equality is a very much as live issue in Ireland, and while polls suggest most of the population are in favour of the, the politicians are still nervous about enacting it so they’ve called a referendum on the issue for Spring 2015.

Colin Farrell has stepped up to show his support both for gay marriage and for his brother Eamon in an open letter he wrote for the Sunday World newspaper. Here’s what he had to say:

‘I think I found out my brother wasn’t grovelling in heterosexual mud like most boys our age when I was around 12. I remember feeling surprised. Intrigued. Curious. Not bi-curious before you start getting ideas.

‘I was curious because it was different from anything I’d known or heard of and yet it didn’t seem unnatural to me. I had no reference for the existence of homosexuality. I had seen, by that age, no gay couples together. I just knew my brother liked men and, I repeat, it didn’t seem unnatural to me. My brother Eamon didn’t choose to be gay. Yes, he chose to wear eyeliner to school and that probably wasn’t the most pragmatic response to the daily torture he experienced at the hands of school bullies.

‘But he was always proud of who he was. Proud and defiant and, of course, provocative. Even when others were casting him out with fists and ridicule and the laughter of pure loathsome derision, he maintained an integrity and dignity that flew in the face of the cruelty that befell him.

‘I don’t know where those bullies are now, the ones who beat him regularly. Maybe some of them have found peace and would rather forget their own part of a painful past. Maybe they’re sitting on bar stools and talking about “birds and faggots” and why one’s the cure and the other the disease.

‘But I do know where my brother is. He’s at home in Dublin living in peace and love with his husband of some years, Steven. They are about the healthiest and happiest couple I know. They had to travel a little farther than down the aisle to make their vows, though, to Canada, where their marriage was celebrated.

‘That’s why this is personal to me. The fact that my brother had to leave Ireland to have his dream of being married become real is insane. INSANE.

‘It’s time to right the scales of justice here. To sign up and register to vote next year so that each individual’s voice can be heard

‘How often do we get to make history in our lives? Not just personal history. Familial. Social. Communal. Global. The world will be watching. We will lead by example. Let’s lead toward light.’

The Day The Earth Caught Fire (Blu-ray Review)

November 17, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Edward Judd, Janet Munro, Leo McKern, Reginald Beckwith
Director: Val Guest
Running Time: 100 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: November 17th 2014 (UK)

The BFI has been busy once more restoring a piece of cult cinema from Britain’s past, this time 1961’s slice of sci-fi, The Day The Earth Caught Fire, from Quatermass director Val Guest. Like the best of science fiction from that era, it’s a movie that’s not just about made-up nonsense, but takes on things such as the changes in sexual politics and most particularly fear of the nuclear bomb.

Like everyone else, Daily Express journalist Peter Stenning (Edward Judd) can’t help but notice that strange things are happening with the weather, such as an unexpected solar eclipse and weird, dense fog blanketing London. After getting off to a rocky start with civil servant Jeannie Craig (Janet Munro), they embark on a affair, and thanks to her Stenning gets a tip that the weather isn’t just an anomaly. The US and Russia simultaneously exploding nuclear bombs has knocked the planet off its axis and may also have sent it out of orbit and getting ever closer to the sun. [Read more…]

Earth To Echo (Blu-ray Review)

November 17, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Teo Halm, Brian 'Astro' Bradley, Reese Hartwig, Ella Wahlestedt
Director: Dave Green
Running Time: 91 mins
Certificate: PG
Release Date: November 17th 2014 (UK)

The makers of Earth To Echo certainly seem to like 80s family films, as the movie mixes bits of the likes of ET, Stand By Me and The Goonies with the more modern found footage genre.

Alex, Tuck and Munch are best friends living in a community that’s being forced to move due to a new construction project. It’s their last week together, which takes an unexpected turn after they realise strange electromagnetic anomalies are happening. When they decide to investigate they come across a small, damaged, semi-robotic alien, who needs help to rebuild his spaceship so that he can get home [Read more…]

Transformers: Age Of Extinction (Blu-ray Review)

November 17, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor, Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer
Director: Michael Bay
Running Time: 165 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: November 17th 2014 (UK)

Reviewing Transformers: Age Of Extinction seems slightly pointless. It has an abysmal 18% rating on RottenTomatoes, with only 32 out of 178 that collated reviews saying it’s a decent movie. Despite that it’s currently the highest grossing movie of 2014 worldwide with over $1 billion in the bank (largely thanks to a gargantuan gross in China). So whether anyone says it’s good or bad seems a little irrelevant.

But just for the record, it’s not a good movie. [Read more…]

Apropos Of Nothing: You Only Need To Wear Underwear In The Woods In A Hot New Vid

November 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

freedom-reignsWhat is a forest for? Well, according to this new video, it’s there so buff men can strip down to their underwear and wander around in a vaguely homoerotic fashion. Oh and do some running and jumping and other manly activities. And we have absolutely no problem with that.

The vid is a promo for Freedom Reigns latest range of undies and comes to us via The Underwear Expert.

It’s actually nice to have one of these videos with fashionable undies but which doesn’t seem absolutely obsessed with ridiculously oversized and wobbling bulges (seriously, in some Andrew Christian videos it looks like the guys haven’t just stuffed it with socks, they’ve got a whole three-piece suit down there). Instead it’s just good looking and relatively natural young guys – who admittedly have all spent 50% of their waking lives in a gym. We certainly like what we see, and hopefully you will too.

Take a look at the video below. [Read more…]

Old Dogs & New Tricks Season 3 Episode 1 – The boys are back for a new season

November 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

old-dogs-s3-ep1-slideIn the world of gay-themed web series, reaching Season 3 makes you a genuine veteran, especially if you’re not the type of show that a couple of people can make in their living room. Old Dogs & New Tricks has now reached the Season 3 milestone and released the first episode, which you can watch below, and as an added treat there’s a cameo from Mo Gaffney (Absolutely Fabulous).

Picking up two weeks after the events of ODNT’s mini-movie/Halloween special “WeHo Horror Story,” the comedy continues the stories of four middle-aged, gay best friends living in youth-obsessed West Hollywood. The principal cast of Leon Acord, Curt Bonnem, Jeffrey Patrick Olson & David Pevsner return for another season of fun, friendship and healthy doses of sex. Amanda Gari also returns as audience favorite Lydia Lasker in an expanded role.

“I couldn’t be prouder of the show this season,” comments series creator/writer/star Leon Acord. “The cast and crew really brought their ‘A game’ and the show looks amazing.”

In the premiere, we learn Nathan, devastated by Damian’s departure, has taken to his bed—until the guys arrive to deliver some tough love. Muscles tries to flirt with a gym bunny.  Brad receives bad financial news from his accountant. And Ross meets with his divorce lawyer, played by guest star Gaffney.

In the rest of Season 3 it’s promised there will be a sex-tape scandal, a “chubby chaser,” a gay divorce, a surprising new partnership, a new villainess, a professional comeback for one of the characters and a financial crisis for another, and new love interests all around, as well as Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.

Seven more episodes are due to be released, coming each Wednesday over the next few weeks. [Read more…]

Fifty Shades of Gay Parody Trailer – The erotic phenomenon goes a little bit lesbian

November 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

fifty-shades-of-gay-parody-trailerThere’s a new movie rating in town ‘Lesbionic’, which is apparently what this parody trailer has. It’s Fifty Shades Of Gay, a send-up of the publishing phenomenon and its upcoming movie version. A parody was bound to happen, and we’d be surprised if there aren’t a few more vids called Fifty Shades Of Gay that pop up between now and the movie’s Valentine’s Day release.

The parody starts as a pretty much shot-for-shot remake of the most recent Fifty Shades Of Grey trailer, except with two women, before heading into pure tongue-in-cheek lesbian relationship mode.

It’s a lot of fun, so take a look at the video below, and if you want to compare it to the Fifty Shades Of Grey trailer that was released a couple of days ago, you can find that here. [Read more…]

James Franco & Seth Rogen Decide To Try Out Some Naked & Afraid Dating

November 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

james-franco-seth-rogen-naked-afraidThere was always one thing missing from James Franco’s campaign to be the gayest straight man in the universe – he didn’t have any boyfriends to be straight-gay with. That’s changed those, whether it’s fake bed selfies with actor Keegan Allen, or homoerotic parodies of Kanye West videos with Seth Rogen.

Now Rogen and Franco are back together and as is their predilection, they couldn’t do it without seeming a little bit gay, with them trying out the daft survival/dating show Naked & Afraid. Normally in that show it’s a man and a woman who are dumped in the nude together in the wild, but here it’s the two actors who strip down and go off into the woods (complete with blurred nether regions – although we’re wondering whether the guys really needed blurs that large).

Take a look at the fun, semi-NSFW video below. [Read more…]

Neil Patrick Harris & David Burtka Get Cute Together For London Fog Christmas Campaign

November 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

neil-patrick-harris-advid-burtka-london-fog2More and more advertisers are including gay people in their ad campaigns, and while there is a slight sense of bandwagon jumping because of the free column inches and mentions on the web they get (which could be worth more than the ad space they actually pay for), overall the increasing inclusiveness can only be a good thing.

The latest to join the throng are Neil Patrick Harris & David Burtka, who’ve signed up to front London Fog’s Christmas campaign, looking very cute together while wearing some very dapper clothing.

The images, which first appeared over at London Fog’s Facebook page, are above and below. They’re certainly looking good (and hopefully they both got paid well too).
