Live-Action Bananaman Gets A Poster, With A 2015 Release Promised

May 27, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

bananaman-teaser-posterAnyone who grew up in the UK in the 80s will remember Bananaman, the comedy cartoon about a boy called Eric who transforms into the heroic (if a little dim) Bananaman when he eats one of the yellow fruits.

Now it’s getting a live action remake, and to help officially announce that the teaser poster above has been released.

Rights holder DC Thomson and Elstree Studio Productions are teaming up for the film, but details – such as the cast and director – are currently being kept under wraps, although a 2015 release is promised.

The opening narration of each episode of the TV show should give us a hint at what to expect though: ‘This is 29 Acacia Road. And this is Eric, the schoolboy who leads an exciting double life. For when Eric eats a banana, an amazing transformation occurs. Eric is Bananaman. Ever alert for the call to action!’

Pixar Offers New Story Details On Inside Out, Set In The Human Mind

May 27, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

inside-out-concept-art1For quite a while we’ve known that Up and Monsters Inc’s Pete Docter has been working on Inside For Pixar. It’s got a cast including Amy Poehler, Bill Hader, Mindy Kaling, Lewis Black and Phyllis Smith, and we’ve even had the concept art above, but story details have been thin on the ground.

All we’ve known is the rather intriguing premise that it’s set inside the human mind.

Now Pixar website has released some more details. It says, ‘From the tepuis of South America to a monster-filled metropolis, Academy Award®-winning director Pete Docter has taken audiences to unique and imaginative places. In 2015, he will take us to the most extraordinary location of all – inside the mind of an 11-year-old named Riley.

‘Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.’

The film is due out summer 2015.

Inside Llewyn Davis (Blu-ray Review)

May 27, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Justin Timberlake
Director: Joel Coen, Ethan Coen
Running Time: 104 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: May 26th 2014 (UK)

It just goes to show how useful it is to have a ‘name’ in the film world. If most filmmakers had said they wanted to make a movie about a misanthropic 1960s folk singer who spends the first 25 minutes of the film trying to get a cat back to its owner, they’d have been laughed out of the room. However the Coen Brothers have the sort of clout that can get things done.

And while not one of their best, Inside Llewyn Davis is not a bad movie at all. [Read more…]

Willow Creek (DVD Review)

May 27, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Alexie Gilmore, Bryce Johnson
Director: Bobcat Goldthwait
Running Time: 80 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: May 26th 2014 (UK)

To some people Bobcat Goldthwait is still the strange voiced guy from Police Academy, to others he’s a cult stand-up, and to some he’s become a bit of a fascinating director. His projects have ranged from the countercultural, such as God Bless America, to the mainstream, like World’s Greatest Dad, but few expected him to have a go at a found footage horror. [Read more…]

Top Dog (DVD Review)

May 27, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Leo Gregory, Vincent Regan, Ricci Hartnett, Susan Penhaligon
Director: Martin Kemp
Running Time: 93 mins
Certificate: 18
Release Date: May 26th 2014 (UK)

The latest entry in the curious British genre of ‘hard men being assholes’ comes from former Spandau Ballet member and Eastender Martin Kemp. As he was born on the mean streets of London himself, you might hope the musician/actor would bring a dose of reality to things, but we’re just as much in gangster-ish fantasy land as we normally are, even if there is a dose of morality that’s often lost in this sort of film.

Based on a novel and script by Green Street’s Dougie Brimson, Top Dog is about Billy (Leo Gregory), a small time bad boy who takes over a gang of football hooligans known as the Acton Casuals. When he discovers landlord members of his family are being hassled as part of a protection racket, he recklessly decides the Casuals are going to take over the pub and protect it themselves. Crush Of The Day: Hugh Jackman Shows Off His Butt In X-Men: Days Of Future Past (NSFW)

May 26, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

hugh-jackman-x-men-days-of-future-past-slideAs we mentioned in our review, Hugh Jackman gets nekkid in X-Men: Days Of Future Past, so it’s little surprise that the relevant portion of the movie has quickly shown up online and been turned into a gif (which you can see below).

As the film is PG-13, don’t expect anything too dangly though.

Hugh has been talking about the scene while promoting the movie, including on Live With Kelly & Michael, where he explained, “It wasn’t written as a nude scene.”

“The scene has Wolverine, because the whole premise of the movie is it has Wolverine traveling back in time to prevent something cataclysmic happening in the future,” he said. “So I land back in 1973. I wake up — this is what the script says — wake up next to a girl who I don’t remember, and I get out of bed wearing boxer shorts. I don’t know about America, but in Australia, if you are next to a really good looking girl, you’re not getting out with boxer shorts on or briefs, or anything! So, yeah, I went commando and we just went for it,” he said.

Jackman added that they did slightly try to preserve his modesty, saying, “There’s a sock. They brought a bright green sock for me to wear and I was like, ‘This is kind of drawing more attention than less.’ And they said, ‘No, no, no we need bright green like a green screen, so if you bend over, if you turn around, we need to erase it.’

However in an online Q&A Jackman revealed there was something about his nude scene he forgot to do – tell his kids. He says, “It is actually really cool to watch it with them until you get to the moment where you’re naked onscreen and you forgot to warn your almost 9-year-old daughter. And she says ‘Dad, why aren’t you wearing underwear?'”

Take a look at the butt shot giff and Live With Kelly & Michael interview below. [Read more…]

New Trailer For Broadway’s Gay-Friendly Mothers & Sons, As The Show Surprises With Its ‘Homophobic’ Marketing

May 26, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Tony-nominated Broadway show Mothers & Sons shocked many over the weekend when its Twitter feed suddenly became incredibly anti-gay. It was a particular surprise as the Tyne Daly starring show, written by the acclaimed Terrence McNally, is very gay-friendly.

However while many Twitter followers assumed the feed had been hacked by juvenile homophobes, it was actually part of a rather smart marketing campaign where the people running the feed gathered real anti-gay tweets that were being spread at that moment and presented them as their own. At the end of the hour they let their users know exactly what they’d been up to.

The tweets and some of the responses have been collected over at Storify, and you can look at some of them below.

The production has also released a short trailer, featuring the wonderful Daly, which you see above. Mothers and Sons, ‘portrays a woman who pays an unexpected visit to the New York apartment of her late son’s partner, who is now married to another man and has a young son. Challenged to face how society has changed around her, generations collide as she revisits the past and begins to see the life her son might have led.’ [Read more…]

Queer Filmmaker Xavier Dolan Picks Up Jury Prize At Cannes For Mommy

May 26, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

xavier-dolan-cannesXavier Dolan may have missed out on the Queer Palm at Cannes for Mommy (that award went to the Brit flick Pride), but at the main awards ceremony he had more to smile about, as his movie tied for the Jury Prize with Jean-Luc Godard’s Goodbye To Language.

And Godard is certainly not bad company to be in! Some have already commented on whether it’s Cannes almost passing the baton, as the precocious Dolan is often said to be one of the most interesting new voices, while Goodbye To Language may be the legendary Godard’s final film.

In Mommy, ‘A widowed single mom finds herself burdened with the full-time custody of her explosive 15-year-old ADHD son. As they try to make ends meet and struggle with their impetuous and unpredictable ménage, the new girl across the street, Kyla, benevolently offers needed support. Together, they find a new sense of balance, and hope is regained.’

25-year-old queer filmmaker Dolan previously picked up the Queer Palm a couple of years ago for Laurence Anyways, and two awards at Cannes for his directorial debut, I Killed My Mother.

He wasn’t the only 2014 winner though, as Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s Winter Sleep picked up the big prize, the Palm d’Or. Bennett Miller added to the excellent reviews for Foxcatcher with a Best Director win, while Julianne Moore picked up Best Actress for David Cronenberg’s Map To The Stars. The wonderful Timothy Spall meanwhile, won Best Actor for Mike Leigh’s Mr. Turner. [Read more…]

Take A Look At Taylor Kitsch’s Shirtless Career Courtesy Of Ellen

May 26, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Q9q7iCtjWo

You might not expect a lesbian to have a fascination with the male torso, but Ellen Degeneres (or at least the producers of her chat show) certainly seems to. She’s certainly not averse to showing off buff man meat on her show.

Now she’s decided that with Taylor Kitsch coming on her show, it was a good opportunity to pay homage to the fact he’s spent almost as much time on screen with his shirt off as with it on. Indeed John Carter almost seemed like $200 million worth of special effects all spent to show his abs off to better effect.

There’s no doubt that the less he wears the better the Battleship and Normal Heart star looks. And if you need any more proof. Check out this page. [Read more…]

The Equalizer Trailer – Denzel Washington Helps Chloe Moretz take on the Russian mob

May 26, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Sony is pretty confident about The Equalizer. It doesn’t arrive in cinemas until September in the US (and October 10th in the UK), but they’re already developing a sequel.

Of course the sequel is reliant on the first movie being a success. Now we can get a proper feel for the movie with a trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Starring Denzel Washington, it tells the story of a former black ops commando who faked his death and is now living a quiet life and returns to action to rescue a prostitute from evil pimps; his actions cause the Russian mob to send rogue CIA agents to kill him; he battles back against overwhelming odds, defeating them and becoming “The Equalizer.”’

Richard Wenk (16 Blocks) wrote the screenplay, based on the hit TV series The Equalizer, which ran for four seasons between 1985 and 1989.

May 26, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Karen-GillanKaren Gillan’s film assault is picking up this year with Oculus, Guardians Of The Galaxy and The List. Now she’s booked another role as Deadline reports that she’s signed up for A Valley Of Violence.

Ethan Hawke, John Travolta, and Taissa Farmiga are already set for the movie, which will see Gillan as ‘Ellen, the older sister to Farmiga’s character. Together they run a hotel in the town where Hawke’s drifter seeks vengeance for the death of his best friend’

Ti West is directing the movie, marking a step towards the mainstream for the helmer of House Of The Devil and The Innkeepers. It should start shooing in late June.
