The Search Trailer – Take a look at Michel Hazanavicius’ follow-up to The Artist

May 21, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s taken a while for director Michel Hazanavicius to come up with his follow-up to The Artist, but three years on The Search has debuted at Cannes and now comes a trailer.

This is a rather different movie though (despite the presence of Berenice Bejo), as it swaps silent cinema for life in a modern war zone.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The Second Chechen War. 1999. THE SEARCH recounts, on a human scale, a powerful story of conflict told through four lives that will be brought together by a shocking twist of fate.

‘After his parents are killed in their village, a small boy flees, joining the flood of refugees. He meets Carole, a European Union delegation head and little by little, with her help, he will return to life. At the same time, his elder sister Raïssa searches tirelessly for him amongst the civilian exodus.

‘Then there’s 20-year-old Kolia… A recent Russian Army recruit, he will gradually be overwhelmed by the daily life of wartime.’ [Read more…]

Glee’s Jane Lynch Reflects On Her Feelings Growing Up Gay: ‘It Was Almost Like I Had A Disease’

May 20, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For a few years now the It Gets Better Project has been encouraging people to make short videos letting young LGBT people know that while it’s tough as a youngster, things do improve. With It Got Better they’re going a little deeper and that includes Jane Lynch, who goes into some depth in a new video, talking about the difficulties she faced growing up gay.

It’s a pretty moving interview and well worth watching, where she touches on plenty of things LGBT people will recognise about the fears in the early stages of realising you aren’t quite like most other people around you – but that things do most definitely improve. Lynch says, ‘There were certain ways you behaved. Boys did certain things, girls did certain things and I did not fit in that.

‘I identified more with boy things. I enjoyed dressing like a boy. Boys stopped wanting to play with me when I got to about 10, I had to fight to play baseball. Every day I didn’t know I was going to be received because I would just hang out until I got to play. Deep down inside I knew that there was something else going on.

‘I finally had a word for it when I was about 14. I had these friends and they said, ‘‘You know on the beach sometimes you’ll see guys walking together holding hands and they’re gay for each other’’ and I thought,  ‘I am the girl version of that’.

‘It was almost like I had a disease, I felt like I had been diagnosed.’

Things have definitely changed for her though, as she adds, ‘Now I live in a world where I don’t give a shit if you have a problem with who I am.’ [Read more…]

Fancy Choosing Your Own Neil Patrick Harris Autobiography? You May Get The Chance

May 20, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

neil-patrick-harris-autobiography-slideI’m still not 100% sure if this is real, but NPH tweeted it himself, so presumably it’s not just some elaborate joke, but it appears that rather than just releasing a traditional autobiography, he wants those who grew up in the 80s to get a bit nostalgic, as he’s written a choose your own autobiography – complete with a rather cool throwback cover.

The accompanying website says: ‘Sick of deeply personal accounts written in the first person? Seeking an exciting, interactive read that puts the “u” back in “aUtobiography”? Then look no further than Neil Patrick Harris: Choose Your Own Autobiography! In this revolutionary, Joycean experiment in light celebrity narrative, actor/personality/carbon-based life-form Neil Patrick Harris lets you, the reader, live his life. You will be born in New Mexico. You will get your big break at an acting camp. You will get into a bizarre confrontation outside a nightclub with actor Scott Caan. Even better, at each critical juncture of your life you will choose how to proceed. You will decide whether to try out for Doogie Howser, M.D. You will decide whether to spend years struggling with your sexuality. You will decide what kind of caviar you want to eat on board Elton John’s yacht.

‘Choose correctly and you’ll find fame, fortune, and true love. Choose incorrectly and you’ll find misery, heartbreak, and a guest stint on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew. All this, plus magic tricks, cocktail recipes, embarrassing pictures from your time as a child actor, and even a closing song. Yes, if you buy one book this year, congratulations on being above the American average, but make that book Neil Patrick Harris: Choose Your Own Autobiography! On sale October 14, 2014.’

Jonah Hill Has To Kiss Channing Tatum’s Penis If Asked

May 20, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

22-jump-street-tatum-hillHave you ever wished you were Jonah Hill? Well now you have more reason to, as he lost a bet where his forfeit was that he promised to kiss Channing Tatum penis. Apparently that’s seen a something bad in the straight guy world (sometimes it’s difficult to understand those breeders).

Tatum revealed the details in an interview with GQ, which revolved around a bet where Hill told him, “I will kiss your tip! I will kiss the tip of your dick through your underwear if we make $35 million [on 21 Jump Street’s US opening weekend].”

“I haven’t made him do it yet,” Tatum says. “For obvious reasons. That’s a bad bet to lose—it’s not too good to win, either. But definitely the shame of it would be enjoyable. It’s my trump card, for sure. He tries not to bring it up at all costs. Unless he did something horrible to me, I don’t know if I could ever cash it in. It would change our relationship forever.”

He adds though, “Maybe on a drunk night when we’re all being crazy and hopefully, knock on wood, Jump Street 2 works out and people love it, maybe out of the elation of that event in our lives I might call in the bet. Or I might make him double or nothing.”

We’ll take that bet!

La Bare Red Band Trailer – Fresh look at Joe Manganiello’s male stripper documentary

May 20, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

la-bare-biggerAfter Magic Mike Joe Manganiello decided he liked male strippers. Indeed he became so fascinated with their world that he’s made his directorial debut with a documentary about them.

We previously had a tease of the film and now we’ve got a red band trailer to get us all hot under the collar.

Manganiello said of the film at its Slamdance premiere, “I had zero interest in male stripping prior to Magic Mike. As a straight male, I had a lot of misperceptions about the industry. People would walk out of Magic Mike saying  ’I loved it but I wish there was more of the guys. I wish I knew more about them, where they live, who they go out with, what their lives are like.’ So I knew there was a lot left on the table.”

However in a new interview with Vulture, he talks about how La Bare has had a few issues, ‘I can’t express to you how many times I’ve heard, “We’ve seen it all.” “There’s nothing new.” “Everything is recycled.” “Nothing is shocking.” Blah, blah, blah … But I guess I just never really paid attention to the chatter until I made my first feature film.

‘Soon after filming, there were the bands that had pulled their songs from the film despite the protests of their record label, the ban of our art/posters on bus stops and billboards due to it being too risqué … And then came the wait for the MPAA rating … And with that, the realization that I indeed had found something new, something fresh, something shocking to show the general public.

‘With La Bare, I had somehow sailed my way into uncharted waters and stumbled upon an island not recorded on any map … the completely misunderstood world of male entertainment.

‘With Magic Mike, we scratched the surface, and with La Bare, I had the opportunity to plumb the depths of this strange and provocative world hidden in plain sight.’

The movie has a US debut set for June 27th. [Read more…]

Kingsman: The Secret Service Trailer – Plus a poster for Matthew Vaughn’s Colin Firth spy adventure

May 20, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Matthew Vaughn left X-Men behind partly so he could finally make his long-gestating adaptation of The Secret Service, based on Mark Millar’s comic The Secret Service.

Now it has a new name – Kingsman: The Secret Service – suggesting they’re already viewing it as a potential franchise, along with a poster, pics and the first trailer.

It’s essentially a particularly posh James Bond (in the form of Colin Firth) teaming up with someone much younger (newcomer Taron Egerton) and on a very different part of the social ladder, to take on an evil threat. And they’ve invited the likes of Michael Caine and Samuel L. Jackson along for the ride.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Based upon the acclaimed comic book and directed by Matthew Vaughn (“Kick-Ass,” “X-Men: First Class”), “Kingsman: The Secret Service” tells the story of a super-secret spy organization that recruits an unrefined but promising street kid into the agency’s ultra-competitive training program just as a global threat emerges from a twisted tech genius.’

The film’s due out this autumn.
