Wonder Wheel Trailer – Justin Timberlake & Kate Winslet get together for Woody Allen

October 4, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With the likes of Manchester By The Sea, Amazon has shown that they can produce some interesting films. Now they’re teaming with Woody Allen for his next movie, Wonder Wheel, which is due to premiere soon at the New York Film Festival, before getting an Oscar-friendly December 1st, 2017 US release.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Four peoples’ lives intertwine amid the hustle and bustle of the Coney Island amusement park in the 1950s: Ginny, an emotionally volatile former actress now working as a waitress in a clam house; Humpty, Ginny’s rough-hewn carousel operator husband; Mickey, a handsome young lifeguard who dreams of becoming a playwright; and Carolina, Humpty’s long-estranged daughter, who is now hiding out from gangsters at her father’s apartment.’

Kate Winslet, Justin Timberlake, Jim Belushi, and Juno Temple star in the film. You can take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Cafe Society (DVD Review)

December 27, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Blake Lively, Jesse Eisenberg, Ken Stott, Kristen Stewart, Steve Carell
Director: Woody Allen
Running Time: 94 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: December 26th 2016 (UK)

We’ve long reached the point when a new Woody Allen movie isn’t something to get excited about anymore, but it’s also certainly not something to dread either. This year he returns with Café Society, another Allen movie we can add to his recent list of his films that are decent enough, but nothing particularly special.

The director is not on-screen this time (although he does narrate), with Jesse Eisenberg stepping in to be Café Society’s 1930s Woody surrogate, a young Jewish New Yorker called Bobby, who’s a bit lost in life and so decides to head to LA. His Uncle Phil (Steve Carell) is a high-powered movie agent who Bobby hopes can help him get his start. Phil hires Bobby to do odd jobs, which brings him into the sphere of Vonnie (Kristen Stewart). Cafe Society Trailer – Jesse Eisenberg & Kristen Stewart star in Woody Allen’s latest

April 24, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

cafe-society-slideEven when Woody Allen doesn’t star in his own movies, there tends to be a stand-in for him, and it has to be said, he’s picked a good on for Cafe Society in the form of Jesse Eisenberg. Re-teaming him with the often wooden Kristen Stewart may not have been as good an idea, but we will see.

Ahead of the movie’s debut at Cannes, the first trailer has now arrived.

Eisenberg plays Bobby, a young man who relocates to Hollywood in the hopes of pursuing a career in film. Once there, he falls in love and becomes captivated by the lush Hollywood scene. Steve Carell, Blake Lively, Parker Posey and Jeannie Berlin also star.

Interestingly, after holding out for years and suggesting he’s always stick with digital film, Cafe Society marks Woody’s first film shot on digital. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Irrational Man Trailer – Joaquin Phoenix & Emma Stone star in Woody Allen’s latest

April 29, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

irrational-man-emma-stone-joaquin-phoenixIt’s time for our first look at Woody Allen’s annual movie, and coming off the Oscar-winning triumph of Blue Valentine he’s brining us Irrational Man, which stars Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone and Parker Posey.

As always with Allen there aren’t too many details about the movie, but Phoenix will play a philosophy professor who’s suffering from an existential crisis which results in him wondering what the point of life is. However then – and this will be a shock for Allen fans – he meets a younger woman, strikes up a friendship, who changes his life.

It’s not exactly groundbreaking territory for Woody, and as so often in his films, it feels like Joaquin in playing an Allen analogue. Whether it’ll work this time around should become clearer soon as it’s due to premiere at Cannes in mid-May. [Read more…]

Magic in the Moonlight Trailer – Emma Stone & Colin Firth team for Woody Allen’s latest

May 21, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Following Cate Blanchett’s Oscar win, all controversy surrounding Woody Allen seems to have been forgotten. The trailer for his latest movie Magic In The Moonlight has now arrived, which sees Emma Stone as his latest muse (she’s also signed up for his next film.

It also returns Allen to his love of the early days of jazz.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Once again, Woody Allen has put together a stellar cast including Eileen Atkins, Colin Firth, Marcia Gay Harden, Hamish Linklater, Simon McBurney, Emma Stone, and Jacki Weaver. MAGIC IN THE MOONLIGHT is a romantic comedy about an Englishman brought in to help unmask a possible swindle. Personal and professional complications ensue. The film is set in the south of France in the 1920s against a backdrop of wealthy mansions, the Côte d’Azur, jazz joints and fashionable spots for the wealthy of the Jazz Age.’

The film’s due out in the US in July and the UK in September. [Read more…]

Emma Stone Up For Woody Allen’s Next, Alongside Joaquin Phoenix

May 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

emma-stoneIt seems the recent controversy surrounding Woody Allen hasn’t put top names off working with him (Cate Blanchett’s Oscar win probably helped with that). Now Variety reports that Emma Stone has signed up for Woody’s new movie.

She joins Joaquin Phoenix who signed on last week.

As is usual for Woody, at this stage there’s no title and no plot details have been released. It’s believed to be an ensemble movie though, so expect plenty more actors to be announced soon.

This will be Stone’s second movie for the director, as she also stars in Allen’s upcoming feature, Magic in the Moonlight, which due out this summer.

Filming on his next movie is currently set to start in July.

Blue Jasmine (Blu-ray)

February 16, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Cate Blanchett, Sally Hawkins, Alex Baldwin, Andrew Dice Clay, Bobby Cannavale
Director: Woody Allen
Running Time: 98 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: February 17th 2014

A couple of weeks ago Cate Blanchett looked like a shoe-in for the Best Actress Oscar, although that’s been thrown in the air in the fallout from Dylan Farrow’s renewed accusations against Woody Allen, which specifically called out Blanchett for working with him. However while the Allen issues are troubling, Cate’s performance is magnificent and deserving of an Academy Award.

She is the Jasmine of the title (who’s actually Jeanette, but has renamed herself) who is newly arrived in San Francisco to stay with her sister, Ginger (Sally Hawkins). She’s not there because she wants to be, but because following her husband’s (Alex Baldwin) imprisonment for fraud and subsequent suicide, the government has taken every penny she had. [Read more…]

Woody Allen Adds Eileen Atkins & Marcia Gay Harden To New Movie

July 3, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

eileen-atkins1Woody Allen is just finishing off Blue Jasmine, but he’s already busy putting together his next movie, which, as is Woody’s way, hasn’t had a title released yet. Colin Firth and Emma Stone are set to star, and now they’ve been joined by some great talents, as TheWrap reports that Eileen Atkins, Marcia Gay Harden, Jacki Weaver, Hamish Linklater and Simon McBurney will appear.

Erica Leerhsen and Jeremy Shamos are also set to star in the film, although as always, Allen is keeping the plot details to himself. The plan though is to start shooting fairly soon for release next year.

Blue Jasmine meanwhile, which stars Alec Baldwin, Cate Blanchett, Louis C.K., Michael Stuhlbarg, Peter Sarsgaard, Bobby Cannavale, Alden Ehrenreich, and Sally Hawkins, is set for release in the US on July 26th, with a September 20th UK date planned.

Blue Jasmine Trailer – First look at Cate Blanchett in Woody Allen’s latest

June 10, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

As is the way with Woody Allen movies, we’ve heard little about the plot of Blue Jasmine, meaning that trailer is our first proper chance to see what the movie is all about.

The only earlier info was that it follows ‘the final stages of an acute crisis and a life of a fashionable New York housewife (Cate Blanchett)’. The actress’ character, Jasmine, is used to wealth and privilege, thanks to her husband (Alec Baldwin). However, when everything falls apart and Jasmine starts to have a nervous breakdown, she moves to San Francisco where she can stay with her sister Ginger (Sally Hawkins).

Louis C.K., Bobby Cannavale, Andrew Dice Clay, Peter Sarsgaard and Michael Stuhlbarg also star. It hits US cinemas on July 26th, with a September 20th UK date seblue-jasmine-poster1t. [Read more…]
