Rage Trailer – Nicolas Cage gets into pulp thriller mode

May 8, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Nicolas Cage loves movies with ridiculously generic titles – Trespass, Drive Angry, Stolen, Outcast – and now he’s got another one: Rage. And like the others, the trailer lets us know we’re in thriller territory.

In the film, ‘When the Russian mob kidnaps the daughter of a reformed criminal, he rounds up his old crew and seeks his own brand of justice.’

So yes, it’s a incredibly generic plot too.

It just makes you wonder, does nobody offer Cage interesting, challenging roles anymore, or do they simply not pay enough? Oh well, let’s just hope Rage is fun.

In the US the film will be available On Demand on June 10th and in cinemas on July 11th. [Read more…]

The Flintstones Are Getting A New Animated Movie

May 8, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

flintstones-pic1There have been a few attempts to reboot The Flintstones in the last few years, most notably with Seth MacFarlane planning a new animated TV series version. However that never got past the pilot script stage.

Now though it’s been announced that Warner Bros. is teaming up with Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s Gary Sanchez Productions to bring The Flintstones back to the big screen with a new animated feature, according to THR.

Chris Henchy, another partner partners at Gary Sanchez who also wrote The Campaign, will come up with the script. Ferrell and McKay will be executive producers (it isn’t known if Ferrell will also voice a character in the film).

The originally Flintstones debuted in 1960 and ran for six seasons on the air. At the time it was the longest-running animated primetime series (The Simpsons has massively surpassed that now though). In 1994 it was taking live-action with a movie starring John Goodman, Elizabeth Perkins, Rick Moranis and Rosie O’Donnell and the 2000 sequel The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas.

It isn’t known when the new movie will be released. It isn’t clear either if it’ll be a hand-drawn film or fully CGI.

Fault In Out Stars’ Nat Wolff Takes On The Stand

May 8, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

nat-wolffNat Wolff is having a good year. The Stuck In Love actor stars in next month’s much buzzed about The Fault In Our Stars, and now THR reports he’s set to reteam with the director of both those movie for the planned film version of Stephen King’s The Stand.

Although impossible to boil down to a simple plot, The Stand’s over-arcing premise sees a plague known as Captain Trips wiping out pretty much everyone in the world. The survivors then begin sharing a dream of a strange, evil figure, and slowly come together to try and defeat the anti-Christ like Randall Flaggs. It’s basically good vs. evil told on a massive, apocalyptic scale. It was turned into a miniseries in 1994, but despite being much loved by many, the huge plot and ensemble narrative have defeated numerous attempts to take it to the big screen.

Josh Boone, who signed on to write and direct this adaptation in February, apparently wrote a part in the screenplay specifically for Wolff, so the helmer must really like working with the young actor. However, it isn’t known if he’s be playing a character from novel or id this is a brand new role created for the movie.

Boone comments, “He’s a wonderful improviser, he’s my secret weapon, my lucky rabbit’s foot. Two or three of the biggest laughs in my first movie, he improvised. He’s gonna be in every movie I make.”

Nat Wolff responded, “We just immediately bonded; it was just love at first sight. We started arguing about movies we disagreed on, and we have a shorthand together now. I don’t like somebody who just talks my ear off anyway, so I like that we have that relationship.”

Liam Neeson Finds A Monster Calls With Felicity Jones

May 8, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

liam-neesonLiam Neeson has grown a reputation for making hard man movies in the last few years, but there’s certainly a lot more to him than that. Now Screen Daily reports that he is set to star in Juan Antonio Bayona’s fantasy, A Monster Calls.

Felicity Jones has also signed up for the film

Patrick Ness has written the script based on his children’s fantasy novel which  follows thirteen-year-old Conor O’Malley. He has to deal with his mother’s sickness, school bullies and a yew tree in his backyard that turns into a monster and tells him strange stories. However the monster/trees’ stories give him the tools to come to terms with the truths of life.

Neeson will be the monster (or at least its voice). A October 2016 release has already been set.

If Hugh Jackman Could Go Back In Time, He’d Warn Himself Never To Wear Testicles On His Chin In Movie 43

May 7, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

If you could go back in time and give yourself a warning, what would you choose to tell yourself? Well, it turns out for Hugh Jackman one experience in his career stands out above all others.

And it turns out that experience is the ensemble comedy Movie 43 – the star-studded series of comedy skits that turned out to be an astonishingly awful movie.

While promoting X-Men: Days Of Future Past, Jackman teamed up with Yahoo! to interview himself in 1999, and he has some advice on what his younger self should avoid – mainly that wearing testicles on your chin is funnier in theory than practice.

He says, “When they come to you with this great idea of putting testicles around your neck and being part of this hilarious group and ensemble of the funniest movies of all time [Movie 43], don’t believe them”

“You could take the testicles because you use them quite a lot at parties and dinner parties and bring them out, and it actually gets a good laugh, but the movie you could do without”

As for his best movie he says, “You’re going to do a movie with a guy called Chris Nolan, called The Prestige, which is going to be right up there, and another one which unfortunately not many people will see, called The Fountain, and that’s going to be a life-changing experience”

Take a look at Hugh interviewing himself above, and if you’re wondering whether we’re joking about the chin testicles, take a look at the pic from Movie 43 below (and believe me, while it looks pretty funny as an still image, as a movie it’s an abomination). [Read more…]

At the end of Season 3, Episode 3 of My Gay Roommate, there was a bit of a surprise when one of the characters came out and pounced on our intrepid homo hero Nick.

Now it’s time to see what happened next, which starts out with a bit of morning after glow.

But how will Nick’s new roomie Ed handle the fact that his room-mate and his cowboy friend are now bum chums?

There’s a bit of tension, but there’s also plenty of time for silliness, the slightly surreal and an appearance by Tony Award Winner Wilson Jermaine Heredia.

Zac Efron Shows He’s Still Incredibly Hot In Full Drag In A Fun Skit

May 7, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While the comedy Neighbors is getting mixed notices, Zac Efron and Seth Rogen seem to be having great fun promoting it.

That includes a The Tonight Show appearance which included joining new host Jimmy Fallon for a skit that involved them all getting dragged up.

And there’s no doubt that whether dressed as a man or a woman – out of those three guys Zac would always win on hotness.

Fallon plays adolescent host of a Nick Teen show called ‘Ew’, and he’s got to deal with a bearded tween played by Rogen and a hair flicking Zac – and for all of them it’s selfie time.

Take a look at the skit above and check out a selfie pic Zac released below. [Read more…]

Neil Patrick Harris Gets Naked (But Needs Somewhere To Hang His Hat) For The Cover Of Rolling Stone

May 7, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

NEIL-PATRICK-HARRIS-rolling-stone-coverNeil Patrick Harris is currently tearing up Broadway with Hedwig And The Angry Inch, which isn’t just thrilling audiences but has also scored him a Tony nomination.

It’s helped get him on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine, where he went in front of Terry Richardson’s lens with nothing but a hat to cover his modesty – and he doesn’t even need to hold onto that.

Inside the mag he talks about his career and coming out, saying the big turning point for him – when he went from Doogie Howser to grown-up star, was Harold And Kumar. He says, “Who knew that three days on a funny stoner comedy would alter my track record the way it did?”

He also reckons coming out has been great for him as an actor, saying, “Once all the cards were on the table, I got more opportunities than ever. Some actors don’t get hired because you can’t look into their soul and see what they’re like, because they’re kept guarded.”

The new issue of Rolling Stone is out May 9th.

New A Million Ways To Die In The West Red Band Trailer – Liam Neeson has shadow sex with Seth MacFarlane

May 7, 2014 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

When Seth MacFarlane called his new movie A Million Ways To Die In The West, this trailer suggests he wasn’t joking. Indeed on this evidence it’s difficult to see how anyone survived more than a few minutes back then.

It’s also just a juvenile and silly as you’d expect from the creator of Family Guy (and we don’t mean juvenile in a pejorative sense).

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Seth MacFarlane directs, produces, co-writes and plays the role of the cowardly sheep farmer Albert in A Million Ways to Die in the West. After Albert backs out of a gunfight, his fickle girlfriend leaves him for another man. When a mysterious and beautiful woman rides into town, she helps him find his courage and they begin to fall in love. But when her husband, a notorious outlaw, arrives seeking revenge, the farmer must put his newfound courage to the test.

‘Starring alongside MacFarlane are Oscar® winner Charlize Theron, Liam Neeson, Amanda Seyfried, Giovanni Ribisi, Sarah Silverman and Neil Patrick Harris. MacFarlane reunites many of the filmmakers behind Universal and MRC’s hit film Ted including Scott Stuber (Bluegrass Films) and Jason Clark who produce, and Wellesley Wild and Alec Sulkin who co-wrote the script.’

The films due out on May 30th. [Read more…]

New 22 Jump Street Trailer – Don’t ask Channing Tatum to improvise!

May 7, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

21 Jump Street was a far bigger success than anyone had expected, so that it’s not much of a surprise that a sequel is coming – unsurprisingly called 22 Jump Street. Now we’ve got a new trailer that suggests it could be a lot of fun.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘After making their way through high school (twice), big changes are in store for officers Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) when they go deep undercover at a local college. But when Jenko meets a kindred spirit on the football team, and Schmidt infiltrates the bohemian art major scene, they begin to question their partnership.

‘Now they don’t have to just crack the case – they have to figure out if they can have a mature relationship. If these two overgrown adolescents can grow from freshmen into real men, college might be the best thing that ever happened to them.’

The film’s due out in June. [Read more…]

Rebel Wilson Up For Private Benjamin Remake

May 7, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

rebel-wilsonIt’s not the first time we’ve heard the idea of remaking the 1980 hit comedy Private Benjamin, but this time it’s got a star, as Variety reports that Rebel Wilson has signed up for the movie.

The original starred Goldie Hawn as a ‘woman who joins the U.S. Army after her new husband, played by Albert Brooks, dies on their wedding night during sex.

‘Wilson will portray a redneck who enlists in the Marines to get out of a tough situation.’

The 1980s was a major hit at the time, cementing Hawn’s status on the a-list, and this could do the same for Wilson, especially as it would appear to be the perfect star vehicle for her.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Is Getting A New Live-Action Movie

May 7, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

mighty-morphinMighty Morphin Power Rangers might have been very popular and quite a lot of fun, but let’s face it, looked at objectively it was a bit naff.

However now it might be getting a bit of an upgrade from shiny lycra and people in monster and mecha suits running around obviously fake sets. Lionsgate has announced that they’re planning a new Mighty Morphin Power Rangers live action movie.

The Power Rangers started as a television series more than 20 years ago, and the series has been in continuous production ever since. It has subsequently grown into one of the world’s most popular and recognisable brands, with toys, apparel, costumes, video games, DVD’s, comic books and other merchandise.

Creator Haim Saban commented, “Lionsgate is the perfect home for elevating our Power Rangers brand to the next level. They have the vision, marketing prowess and incredible track record in launching breakthrough hits from The Hunger Games to Twilight and Divergent. In partnership with the Lionsgate team, we’re confident that we will capture the world of the Power Rangers and translate it into a unique and memorable motion picture phenomenon with a legacy all its own.”

There’s no news on exactly how they’ll tackle it on-screen, but the basics of young people in suits fighting bad guys and with the ability to join together to become a giant robot is bound to be the same.
