Open Grave Trailer – Sharlto Copley wakes up in a pit of dead bodies

October 30, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

I think it’s safe to say Sharlto Copley isn’t having a great time in Open Grave, but then, waking up in a pit full of dead people isn’t never going to be the start of a good day.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘A man (Sharlto Copley, DISTRICT 9, ELYSIUM) wakes up in a pit of dead bodies with no memory of who he is or how he got there. Fleeing the scene, he breaks into a nearby house and is met at gunpoint by a group of terrified strangers, all suffering from memory loss. Suspicion gives way to violence as the group starts to piece together clues about their identities, but when they uncover a threat that’s more vicious—and hungry—than each other, they are forced to figure out what brought them all together—before it’s too late.’

Gonzalo López-Gallego (Apollo 18) directs, with Copley starring alongside Thomas Kretschmann, Josie Ho, Joseph Morgan, Erin Richards and Max Wrottesley. [Read more…]

New The Wolf of Wall Street Trailer – Martin Scorsese takes Leo DiCaprio into a mad world of money

October 30, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Movies about people in the financial world don’t usually sound that much fun, and to be honest on paper that’s true of The Wolf Of Wall Street, but as this trailer shows, it could be incredibly entertaining in its insanity.

The based-on-a-true-story movie is about Jordan Belfort’s meteoric rise, where he made making millions selling phony stocks before he was arrested and sentenced to 22 months in prison for securities fraud. Matthew McConaughey, Jonah Hill, Kyle Chandler, Jean Dujardin, Margot Robbie, Jon Bernthal, Rob Reiner, and Jon Favreau also star.

Martin Scorsese directs from a screenplay by Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter. Although it wasn’t certain whether the film would be ready for a prime Oscar-bait release at the end of the year, it now appears it will indeed by going for an awards push. [Read more…]

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau Is Getting A Second Chance

October 30, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Nikolaj-Coster-WaldauEver since he scored the role of Jaime Lannister, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau’s career has been on the rise, including roles in Mama, Oblivion and the upcoming God Of Egypt. Now he’s signed on Susanne Bier’s latest, A Second Chance, according to ScreenDaily.

The film’s backers, TrustNordisk, issued a statement about the movie, saying, ‘How far are decent human beings willing to go, when tragedy blurs the line between just and unjust? With A Second Chance, Susanne Bier and [screenwriter] Anders Thomas Jensen have crafted another startling yet moving drama, about how easily we lose our grasp on justice, when we face the unthinkable and life as we know it hangs by a thread.’

Unfortunately that’s all we know about the plot. Filming will begin in November on the Danish island of Funen.

Christopher McQuarrie To Direct Live-Action Star Blazers

October 30, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

christopher-mcquarrieMore than two years ago, Christopher McQuarrie was hired to write a live-action version of cult kids show Star Blazers. Now Deadline reveals that he’s stepped up to direct the film as well.

Originally called Space Battleship Yamato in its native Japan, Star Blazers was ported over to the States in the late 70s, redubbed and edited and became a bit of a hit. The series was set on a heavily polluted future Earth, with the human race facing extinction. Humanity is then offered plans on how to build super-fast spaceships, and told that if they can battle their way to the planet Iscandar, they’ll be given the secret to saving Earth.

Hollywood has been trying to adapt the show for a long time, but the likes of Disney have tried and failed. Hopefully this time it’s work out.

Daniel Radcliffe Will Go For Gold As Olympic Medallist Sebastian Coe

October 30, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Daniel Radcliffe

Daniel Radcliffe

Daniel Radcliffe is getting his running shoes on as he’s signed up for Gold, where he’ll play legendary British runner, Sebastian Coe. The movie will reunite him with The Woman In Black director, James Watkins.

The movie has been in development for quite a while, as originally the hope was to get it in cinemas to coincide with the London Olympics. They’ve missed that date by a wide mark, but things are now moving ahead with Radcliffe as Coe, in a film that will look at the athlete’s rivalry with felloe middle-distance runner Steve Ovett.

The rivalry was at time cordial and sometimes fierce, and saw them fighting it out for Olympic medals, such as at the 1980 Moscow games, when Ovett beat Coe in his favoured 800m event, while Coe beat Ovett is the latter’s preferred 1,500m. In 1981 they also traded world records for the fastest mile ever three times in 10 days, with Coe as one point holding the 800m, 1,500m and mile records, while Ovett later took over the 1,500m and mile records.

Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire) and Will Davies (How to Train Your Dragon) wrote the script based on The Perfect Distance by Pat Butcher. Shooting it expected to start next April.

Is Indiana Jones 5 Coming To Secure Harrison Ford For Star Wars 7?

October 30, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

harrison-fordHarrison Ford has made it clear he’d like to make a fifth Indiana Jones movie, but has seemed more ambivalent about returning to Star Wars. Now rumours suggest that in order to agree to become Han Solo once more, he’s got Lucasfilm to put Indy 5 into active development.

Nothing has been confirmed (and this may all turn out to be false) but Harrison Ford apparently wanted Disney to commit to making Indiana Jones 5 as a part of his Star Wars deal. Disney wasn’t prepared to sign up for that, but they have apparently agreed to develop a treatment for the next Indy sequel by the end of 2014 and, if all parties are satisfied with the story, they will move forward for a 2016 release.

Ford is also said to have approved his Han Solo character arc that stretches beyond Star Wars: Episode VII, and led to the actor agreeing to a multi-picture deal.

There are stumbling blocks to Indiana Jones 5, not least that Paramount Pictures owns the rights to that franchise, while Disney own Lucasfilm. While a co-production is possible, it’s not know if either studio is will to get in bed with the other.

Starring: Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Christopher Eccleston, Idris Elba, Anthony Hopkins
Director: Alan Taylor
Running Time: 112 mins
Certificate: 12A
Release Date: October 30th 2013

Thor – The Dark World is the 8th installment set in the Marvel’s Interconnected Universe, and this time the franchise has a new director, Alan Taylor, taking over from Kenneth Branagh, who did such a great job introducing Thor to the cinematic world.

So what do we need to know about Thor: The Dark World? Well, it delivers much the same as the original Thor – there are intergalactic baddies (Elves lead by Malekith – played by Christopher Ecclestone) trying to kill the residents of Asgard as well as the other nine realms. There are amazing backdrops to set the battles in, there are ridiculously over the top costumes, and massive body counts, rippling muscle and a good thread of humour running through the film. London Has Fallen For Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart & Morgan Freeman

October 29, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Olympus-has-fallen-posterMany had thought that in this year’s battle of terrorists-taking-over-the-White-House movies, White House Down would beat Olympus Has Fallen, but it was the latter that became the biggest hit, doing so well that a British set sequel is now in the works.

Currently titled London Has Fallen, Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, Morgan Freeman, Angela Bassett and Radha Mitchell are all set to reprise their roles from the original, according to ScreenDaily.

As the title suggest, the film moves the action from Washington DC to London. US President Benjamin Asher (Aaron Eckhart) is in the UK to attend the funeral of the British Prime Minister, and has taken his Secret Service head, Mike Banning (Gerard Butler), with him. They must team up again to save the day with a British MI6 agent when a terrorist plot unfolds. Angela Bassett and Radha Mitchell are also set to reprise their roles as Secretary of Defense Ruth McMillan and Leah.

Olympus Has Fallen writers Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt back writing the screenplay. Focus Features is currently seeking a director, as it seems Antoine Fuqua won’t return. Filming will begin on May 5th, 2014.

Entourage Movie Gets the Greenlight – Adrian Grenier, Kevin Connolly & co. will be back

October 29, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

entourage-pic1Last week it seemed like in-fighting over money might kill the planned film version of Entourage, with producer Mark Wahlberg branding certain cast members as greedy. Then Adrian Grenier wrote a defence saying everyone should get a good deal if they’re going to make the film.

However it now appears that was all part of the tactics for the different sides to agree to terms and sign on the dotted line, as Entourage creator Doug Ellin revealed through his Twitter account that Warner Bros. has finally given the green light for the highly-anticipated movie.

The main problem with getting the cast to sign was apparently that Jeremy Piven closed a deal in August that gave him profit participation points. That wasn’t offered to Adrian Grenier, Jerry Ferrara, Kevin Dillon and Kevin Connolly, so they decided to hold out out for a share of the back end as well. Those issues now seem to have been sorted out.

Filming is slated to begin sometime in January, when Jeremy Piven is on hiatus from his British TV series Mr. Selfridge.

VFX Supervisor Cedric Nicolas-Troyan To Helm Highlander Remake

October 29, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

highlander-pic1It’s about a year since Juan Carlos Fresnadillo bailed on the planned remake of Highlander, and we haven’t heard a vast amount it since, apart from the fact potential star Ryan Reynolds is also out. However, no Summit Entertainment has hired visual effects supervisor Cedric Nicolas-Troyan to direct the movie, according to Deadline.

The original movie is about an immortal Scottish swordsman called Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert). He is mentored by Ramirez (Sean Connery) and spends centuries dueling other immortal rivals. After taking out most of his kind, he find himself fighting for his life against the murderously brutal barbarian Kurgan (Clancy Brown). They fight to become the final remaining immortal, who will influence the future of mankind. There can be only onee.

Cedric Nicolas-Troyan is directing from a script by Iron Man writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. Neal H. Mortiz, Peter Davis and Justin Lin will be producing. It’s Nicolas-Troyan’s first feature film as director, but he has a long track record in visual effect, scoring an Oscar nomination for Snow White And The Huntsman.
