Tom Hiddleston’s Loki & Anthony Hopkin’s Odin Get Cool New Thor: The Dark World Posters

September 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

thor-the-dark-world-poster5
It’s less than two months until Thor: The Dark World is launched on the world and we can return to Asgard for Marvel’s latest adventure. We’ve been sent two new posters, featuring Tom Hiddleston’s Loki and Anthony Hopkins’ Odin, and we have to say, they’re pretty cool.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself.  In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

‘Starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, and Jaimie Alexander with Rene Russo and Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” is directed by Alan Taylor, produced by Kevin Feige, from a story by Don Payne (credit not final) and screenplay by Christopher Yost and Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely (credit not final) and is based on Marvel’s classic Super Hero Thor, who first appeared in the comic book “Journey into Mystery “ #83 in August, 1962.’

The film’s out in the UK on October 30th and the US a week later.

Djimon Hounsou Will Get Some Action In Fast & Furious 7

September 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Djimon-hounsouGladiator, Constantine and Amistad actor Djimon Hounsou is an amazing actor, and it’s always seemed a bit of a shame he hasn’t gotten the credit he deserves – although he’s undoubtedly the most successful actor to ever come out of Benin.

Now he’s got a new role, as Hounsou has signed on to star in Fast & Furious 7, according to Variety. He’ll star alongside Vin Diesel and Paul Walker, with Jason Statham joining as Ian Shaw, the brother of Fast & Furious 6 villain, Owen Shaw (Luke Evans). Other new additions for the movie include UFC fighter Ronda Rousey, martial artist Tony Jaa, Game of Thrones star Nathalie Emmanuel and Kurt Russell. There are also expected to be several more returning cast member.

There’s no news on what Hounsou will do in the film, although it’s believed the movie takes the franchise back to it’s hometown on Los Angeles.

James Wan (The Conjuring, Insidious Chapter 2) is directing from a screenplay by Chris Morgan. The film starts shooting later this year for release July 11th, 2014

JK Rowling To Script Harry Potter Spin-Off, Based on Fantastic Beasts & Where To Find Them

September 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jk-rowlingHarry Potter was the highest grossing movie franchise in history, taking in more cash than James Bond, Star Wars and Lord Of The Rings. However JK Rowling only wrote seven books and so it had to come to an end – well, at least the tale of Potter himself did.

Now Warner Bros. has announced they’re re-teaming with J.K. Rowling, who will write her first movie screenplay, which will be based in the world of Harry Potter, even if it takes place far from Hogwarts. The movie will be inspired by Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by the fictitious Newt Scamander, which was one of Harry’s school textbook.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will be an original story and is planned as the first picture in a new film series. It will follow Scamander and his the creatures he tracks down.

Rowling commented, “Although it will be set in the worldwide community of witches and wizards where I was so happy for seventeen years, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world. The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the films, but Newt’s story will start in New York, seventy years before Harry’s gets underway.”

In addition to the film series, Fantastic Beasts will also be developed across the Studio’s video game, consumer products and digital initiatives businesses, including enhanced links with Pottermore.com, Rowling’s digital online experience built around the Harry Potter stories. It’s certainly planned as a bit of a cash cow for both Rowling and Warner Bros. but if it’s as fun as the Potter series, there will probably be few complaints.

Rowling’s further commented, “It all started when Warner Bros. came to me with the suggestion of turning Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them into a film. I thought it was a fun idea, but the idea of seeing Newt Scamander, the supposed author of Fantastic Beasts, realized by another writer was difficult. Having lived for so long in my fictional universe, I feel very protective of it and I already knew a lot about Newt. As hard-core Harry Potter’ fans will know, I liked him so much that I even married his grandson, Rolf, to one of my favorite characters from the Harry Potter series, Luna Lovegood.

As I considered Warners’ proposal, an idea took shape that I couldn’t dislodge. That is how I ended up pitching my own idea for a film to Warner Bros.”

Dear Dad: Letters From Same-Gender-Loving Sons Trailer – Watch the complete, moving feature-length LGBT documentary

September 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Chase Simmons recently completed Dear Dad, a documentary that certainly looks like it’ll be worth watching. The idea behind the movie is that eight black gay/same-gender-loving men write open letters to their fathers, revealing their highs and low, along with the pain, happiness and their hope for the future.

Simmons has been talking to Huffpo about the film, saying, “As a black same-gender-loving man, I know how difficult it can be to forge a real relationship with your father. I’ve struggled with it myself. In my own experience there is often an immediate disconnect once your sexuality is mentally acknowledged, and that gap just gets wider and wider over time. That led me to think about how I’ve struggled to forge real relationships with other SGL men, romantic or platonic. Then I started to think about how I struggled to maintain connections with the heterosexual men in my life after coming out, especially black heterosexual men. Those thoughts looped me back to the first black heterosexual man that I knew, my dad. So I felt like there was a lot of potential in hearing these stories.”

Take a look at the trailer above. You can read more from Simmons over at Huffpo, and find out about the movie itself on its website. [Read more…]

Bill Nighy, Paddy Considine & Dominic West Take On Gay Miners’ Strike Film, Pride

September 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Paddy-ConsidineIn the past, it was quite common for groups of people protesting about different things to come to the aid of each other. Now Matthew Warchus, who’s best known as a theatre director, is planning a movie called Pride about a group of gay activists called ‘Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners’, who decide to raise money to help the families of British miners who were striking in the summer of 1984.

The cast is fast coming together, with Bill Nighy, Dominic West, Imelda Staunton, Paddy Considine & Andrew Scott (Sherlock’s Moriarty), set to star.

The film follows the activists, who after raising the cash, discovers the National Union Of Miners is rather embarrased to accept money from a bunch of queer. Not put off, they decide to travel to a Welsh mining community to hand out the cash personally.

Gay Star News quotes Warchus as saying, “This was a script I just couldn’t say no to. It made me laugh out loud, it surprised and delighted me at every turn, and it ultimately moved me to tears. It’s a truly affirming and inspiring story, funny, honest and moving, and by the end of it you want to punch the air and cheer.”

Stephen Beresford wrote the script, with the current plan being to start shooting next month in London and Wales. There’s no news on exactly who the actors will play.

Rupert Wyatt & Mark Wahlberg Take Aim At The Gambler

September 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Mark-WahlbergRupert Wyatt had great success with Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, but after stepping away from the sequel, he’s flirted with other movies, but hasn’t actually made anything. Now Variety reports that he’s got another one he’s circling, as he’s in talks to direct a remake of The Gambler.

Mark Wahlberg is in early negotiations to star in the film. He replaces Leonardo DiCaprio, who was attached to star when Todd Phillips was set to direct. Both dropped out when the film took longer to develop than anticipated.

The 1974 James Caan movie was about ‘a literature professor with a gambling problem runs into trouble with some local gangsters’. The Departed’s William Monahan wrote the remake script. There’s no news on when it might shoot.

There are also rumours Wyatt may be approached about Star Trek 3, but while JJ Abrams says they’d be lucky to have him, at the moment it’s too early to say whether he’ll actually be offered the job.

Jessica Brown Findlay Joins Daniel Radcliffe & James McAvoy In Frankenstein

September 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jessica-Brown-FindlayAt this rate there won’t be anyone in Downton Abbey who doesn’t have a burgeoning movie career (or in the case of Maggie Smith and Shirley Maclaine, an incredible, decades-spanning one). Now Lady Sybil Branson, aka actress Jessica Brown Findlay, is set to join the cast of Frankenstein, according to THR.

James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe are already set to star, with Paul McGuigan directing from a script by Max Landis. There still aren’t many details on the exact direction that this new take on Mary Shelley’s classic tale will take, although Landis has said he’s planning to put a sci-fi spin on the tale of a creature that is produced by a scientific experiment.

Radcliffe will be the manservant, Igor, with McAvoy and Dr. Frankenstein. Brown will be a ‘trapeze artist who is saved by Igor after an accident, with the two becoming very close in the aftermath’.

It certainly seems the Igor role will be significantly expanded from previous films (he is, after all, a movie creation rather than being in the book. Daniel Radcliffe recently said at the Toronto Film Festival, “It’s about two young, brilliant guys pushing each other. Eventually one loses his morality and the other has to bring him back.”

20th Century Fox is hoping to get the film into production as soon as possible, as there are various other Frankenstein movies in development all over Hollywood – and that’s not to mention the more modern I Frankenstein, starring Aaron Eckhart, which is out early next year.

Jason Sudeikis Is Sleeping With Other People, Including Kirsten Dunst

September 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jason-sudeikisJason Sudeikis has booked himself a new movie role. Following the success of We’re The Millers, Sudeikis has signed up for writer/director Leslye Headland’s new comedy, Sleeping With Other People, according to THR.

Kirsten Dunst is already on-board the film, which is described as a “biting comedy about a good-natured womanizer (Sudeikis) who befriends a remorseful serial cheater (Dunst). Their platonic relationship reforms their chronic infidelity but sparks an inconvenient romantic attraction to each other.”

Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s Gary Sanchez production company is backing the movie, as they did Headland’s Bachelorette, which also starred Kirster Dunst. The film is currently being sold to potential backers in Toronto, but there’s no word on when it might shoot.

Robert Zemeckis Up For Chaos Walking, From A Charlie Kaufman Script

September 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

robert-zemeckisFollowing Flight, it seems Robert Zemeckis is firmly back in live-action territory, and he may now be going young adult, as TheWrap reports that he’s in talks to direct Chaos Walking, based on Patrick Ness’ series of books.

It should be more interesting than most young adult outings, as Adaptation and Being John Malkovich scribe Charlie Kaufman is on scripting duties.

Chaos Walking is the title of three books, The Knife Of Never Letting Go, The Ask And The Answer and Monsters Of Men, which are ‘set in a dystopian future where humans have colonized a distant Earth-like planet. When an infection called the Noise suddenly makes all thought audible, privacy vanishes and chaos ensues, leading a corrupt autocrat to threaten to take control of the human settlements and wage war with the indigenous alien race.’

Hunger Games studio Lionsgate is backing the movie, with the company apparently hoping Chaos Walking can fill the void when Katniss’ adventure come to an end in 2015.

Pirates of the Caribbean 5 Delayed Beyond Summer 2015, But The First Plot Details Emerge

September 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

pirates-4-poster2After high-profile flops like The Lone Ranger and John Carter, Disney has become more nervous about making mega-budget (non-Marvel) movies, and it seems that even extends to the mighty Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise.

Just a week after the directors revealed the fifth Pirates movie is due to be called Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Disney has delayed the movie, apparently due to issues with the script. Originally slated for release July 2015, it is now being pushed back from the summer, although there’s no news if that means it’s be out later in 2015, or if it will end up on the 2016 schedule.

It moves Pirates 5 out of an already crowded schedule of massively anticipated movies, which include Disney’s Star Wars VII and The Avengers 2, along with the Batman & Superman mash-up.

Bleeding Cool also has what it says are the first plot details, saying that ‘there’s going to be a new female lead, a sparring partner for Jack Sparrow. She’s nothing like him, mind you – despite being suspected of witchcraft, she’s actually a woman of science… As for witches, they’re central to whole conceit.’

There’ll also be a ghost who’ll have a main role, ‘It’s this character, a former member of the British military now sided with Barbossa on a revenge mission, that gives the film its title.’

The film will get a new young male and female lead, ‘a couple of pretty young Brits from farming families’.

Jurassic Park 4 Becomes Jurassic World, Gets A Release Date & A Pitch Trailer

September 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jurassic-world-logo
Earlier this year, the long gestating Jurassic Park 4 was delayed from a 2014 release, reportedly because Universal and the filmmakers felt there wasn’t enough time left to get it right – even though they were already scouting locations. Now it’s moving forward again with the announcement that the official title of Jurassic Park 4 is Jurassic World.

It will be released on Friday, June 12, 2015 in 3D.

No official story details have been announced at this time, but the plot is rumored to take place at the site of the original Jurassic Park on Isla Nublar, which has been turned into an amusement park, as first envisioned by Richard Attenborough’s John Hammond. There, Dinosaur trainers run a Sea World type Isla Nublar Lagoon, which will include underwater dinosaurs (not just land-one swimming) for the first time in the franchise’s history. The film will also apparently include a never-before-seen dinosaur that will rival the T-Rex in terror.

Steven Spielberg will return to produce this long-awaited next instalment, with Colin Trevorrow directing from a  screenplay he wrote with Derek Connolly.

Hot on the heels of the title announcement, ShockTilYouDrop posted a video which appears to be a pitch trailer for Jurassic World. It’s not been officially confirmed whether it is, although Trevorrow has cryptically suggested in Twitter that it is. Take a look below.
